  • Saba Hamid says she is not a controlling mother-in-law unlike her Noor Jahan character

Saba Hamid says she is not a controlling mother-in-law unlike her Noor Jahan character

Veteran actress Saba Hamid has stunned fans with her performance as Noor Jahan in the hit drama serial of the same name.

In the serial Noor Jahan , Saba Hamid played the character of Noor Jahan.

During an appearance on After Hours, host Ushna Shah asked, “The character of Noor Jahan is such that you start to dislike her a bit because she is an extremely controlling mother-in-law, and she is completely opposite to you, introverted, someone who minds her own business. So, tell me, what was it like playing a woman like that?”

Saba Hamid replied, “Mostly, if a mother-in-law has a significant role, she is portrayed as controlling and powerful. Generally, we have reached this age by playing such roles, so it wasn’t something new. But there was a good balance in Noor Jahan’s character. It was very gray, I didn’t see her as a completely black (evil) person. I felt that she believed in what she was saying, she wasn’t plotting or being deceitful. She truly believed that sons should be prioritized, which was a wrong idea, but the character was portrayed as wrong, not right, because people do think this way. We can’t close our eyes to it.”

The Noor Jahan actress also highlighted how important it was to play a role that made people think about society.
“To point that out, you sometimes have to touch the wound in order to heal it. I know many people were upset about that monologue where it was said that when a daughter is born, the father’s head lowers in shame. But this is how society thinks, and it was highlighted and countered well. There was a strong contrast because another drama of mine, which was filmed around the same time, also had a mother-in-law, but she was completely different calm and gentle. And I played both characters back-to-back, which overlapped a bit. I think it was fantastic how I managed to pull it off, and I believe I did well with both roles.”
Talking about her working relationship with Musadiq Malik,
Hamid said, “I am genuinely saying that I have worked with many directors, even with those who are very skilled. He is young and new, and Noor Jahan was only his second serial. The first one was Habs, and with Noor Jahan, he outdid everything he had done before. So, full marks to both (Zanjabeel Asim Shah) of them for making Noor Jahan what it is. “It was an interesting experience because he had assisted me before, and now he was directing me. When he assisted me, we had already formed a team where no one was the boss or subordinate. We always worked collaboratively, and even when I was directing, I valued his input. Similarly, when he was directing, he valued my opinions as well.”

  • Best friend ya boyfriend: Ali Raza shares opinion on ‘red flags’

Best friend ya boyfriend: Ali Raza shares opinion on ‘red flags’

Actor Ali Raza, who stole hearts as Murad in the hit drama serial Noor Jahan, is taking over the entertainment industry. He recently appeared in an interview with Fuchsia Magazine where Raza talked about on modern day friendship.

The host Rabia Mughni asked “What are the red flags for you when it comes to girls?”

Ali Raza replied, “Male best friends that girls have apart from their boyfriends nowadays, it really puts me off. But the way things are nowadays, I think everyone understands that, and there’s no need to explain.”

“It’s hard for you to trust anyone. And I feel that the relationship doesn’t last long because mostly girls will have their best friend and having a best friend is acceptable, but you shouldn’t bond with them in the same way that you would with a lover.

For example, if you have plans with your boyfriend, don’t do those things with your best friend instead. Then what’s the point of having a boyfriend?” he explained.

“I think that’s a major red flag for me now. It wasn’t before, but after seeing things, I’ve come to understand. I used to tell my friends that nothing like this happens, that I have many friends too. But I’ve always kept a distance, and that’s why my friendships last because I maintain boundaries. If I meet my female friends, I try not to touch them or get too close,” the actor added.

“It’s not about them [women] or their husbands, but for me, I keep a distance, so in the future, if there’s ever a problem, her husband can’t say anything about me.

So maintaining that distance is important, and I think boundaries and respect are necessary,” Ali Raza believes.

  • ‘If I were older, I would’ve played Noor Jahan’: Hajra Yamin

‘If I were older, I would’ve played Noor Jahan’: Hajra Yamin

Actress Hajra Yamin is making waves with her performance as Sumbul in the drama Noor Jahan.

Recently, Hajra appeared as a guest on Gloss Etc by Maliha Rehman where she was asked, “If it was up to you, would you play Sumbhal or some other character?”

The Noor Jahan actress replied, “I would play Sumbul. I would definitely choose Noor Jahan if I were older. What a character and what an amazing job. Negativity aside, she is such a powerful woman. I love it.”

The host asked, “Is Saba Hamid as strict in real life as she portrays her characters, like Noor Jahan? Does she have a similar presence off-screen?”

Hajra Yamin said, “I will be very honest with you. Sometimes we feel that the people who seem very strict are actually more scared of us than we are of them. Maybe they have social anxiety; this is a very general statement, you know, because I have a little bit of social anxiety myself, which sometimes comes across as arrogance. Saba Aapa….the talent she has, the figure that she is, I was a bit anxious about how it would be. A lot of my work is with her, or has been with Kubra Khan, but it was nice, and she was clear about who should do what. There was one thing that was good, where I was a bit scared, but then there was Musadik, and he said, ‘No, Azaam, we’ll do it this way, and it’ll be fine.’ I said, ‘Alright, okay.’

“You know, I sometimes forget my lines. Saba Appa doesn’t forget her lines. She is a pro. Oh, she is so good. She is so good that she instantly remembers her lines. And the performance we saw on screen was amplified from what we saw firsthand. The gestures, the way she glared, the stern tone, she never shouted, but the sternness in her voice, in certain words, she emphasized it. And that was not missed by anyone. What I am really happy about is that the nuances of this story are visible to everyone,” Hajra Yamin added.

Noor Jahan is written by Zanjabeel Asim Shah and directed by Musadik Malek. It airs on ARY Digital on Friday and Saturday at 8:00 PM.

Alina replied, “Even if I lose as much weight as I can, the thought will always remain in my mind that I was 85 kg at that point.”

Talking about body shaming, The Noor Jahan opened up about her struggle with body image and the impact of weight gain after her role in the serial,

Alina said, “Maybe the clothes don’t fit, and what if I go back to being a size 12 or 14? I would still look big. That thought stays in the mind. You told me that now this thought is stuck in your mind. And then I stopped. I stopped. I said, ‘No, I’m not going to abuse myself and my body for anything or anyone.’ That’s what I’ve always loved. That should’s the only thing you have control over, right, and you’re ruining it, you’re abusing it. Why? Because people don’t like what they see, but you know, it did take a mental toll. It did, because I got really comfortable. I was a complainer, but I wasn’t doing anything about it because I myself couldn’t come to terms with the fact that I would have to work hard for this.”

“Hard work is the first step. Making up your mind and going for it is tough. I used to run away from the gym, thinking I can’t do this, to hell with it. But after that, I think those comments actually helped me make up my mind. That I can’t keep living like this because I don’t like it myself,” Alina Abbas added.
