  • Fawad Chaudhry clarifies stance on Noor’s murder coverage

    Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has clarified his stance on Noor Mukadam’s murder coverage. Fawad made a comment regarding the social media outrage after the murder of Noor Mukadam, while addressing a press conference along with National Security Adviser Moeed Yusuf.

    During the press conference, Fawad Chaudhry — while referring to Noor Mukadam’s murder case — said that a campaign was designed through social media to show that Pakistan is an unsafe country for women, adding that Indian channel WION made videos on Noor murder case of hundreds of minutes to portray that Pakistan is not a safe country for women.

    Chaudhry received backlash on social media for his comments, after which The Current reached out to him for his comment on the matter. “There is an Indian channel WION, which made 3O videos on how unsafe Pakistan is for women, and see this case [Noor Mukadam murder] has happened in Pakistan. This is how [Indian channels] make the issues bigger and create a [specific] narrative,” said the information minister while speaking exclusively to The Current.

    Noor Mukadam was murdered on July 20 in Islamabad. Noor’s murder sparked outrage in the country and many protests and vigils were held in Pakistan and abroad subsequently and the story was covered by all major news outlets in the world including CNN, BBC, The Guardian and The New York Times.

  • Noor Mukadam reportedly raped before murder, forensic report

    The forensic report prepared by Punjab Forensic Agency has revealed that Zahir Jaffer raped and tortured Noor before murdering her, SAMAA has reported. The report has been submitted to the Islamabad police.

    As per Punjab Forensic Agency the CCTV footage obtained from Zahir Jaffer’s house showed both him and Noor Mukadam in the same premises and Jaffer’s fingerprints were present on the murder weapon.

    Postmortem examination of Noor’s dead body was conducted 12 hours after her murder.

    Earlier, Investigators in Noor Mukadam’ s murder case who are checking the call logs of Zahir’s mother — Asmat Jaffer , revealed that Asmat called the head of Trillium Information Security Systems, a private Rawalpindi-based security firm, several times on the day of Noor’s gruesome murder on July 20, reports Zahid Gishkori for The News.

    District and sessions court in the Federal Capital on Monday extended the judicial remand of Zahir Jaffer’s parents till August 23 in the Noor Mukadam murder case.Interior Minister Sheikh has announced that Zahir Jaffer and his parents’ names have been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).

    Did Zahir’s mother help cover up Noor’s murder? Investigators look through call logs

    Investigators in Noor Mukadam’ s murder case are checking the calls logs of Zahir’s mother — Asmat Jaffer — who called the head of Trillium Information Security Systems, a private Rawalpindi-based security firm, several times on the day of Noor’s gruesome murder on July 20, reports Zahid Gishkori for The News.

    Asmat Jaffer, who was in Karachi at the time of the murder, was also in contact with her son at 7:29pm. Noor’s murder reportedly took place between 6:30 and 7:30pm.

    Shortly after this call, Zahir contacted Trillium Security’s head at 7:30pm for five minutes after which Asmat spoke to the head of the firm at least thrice. Not only this, several people that she was in contact have confirmed that she was actively moving between Karachi’s DHA, Clifton and Shaheed-e-Millat Road area and reached out to multiple people at this time. According to The News, Zahir’s mother communicated over 200 times with numerous people: her servant, neighbours in F-7/4, a few influential individuals, a security company, capital police, a welfare trust, four private firms, her immediate family members and periodically with her son, the suspected killer, officials and people involved in the case said.

    These strange calls started peaking in the afternoon of July 20. She made frequent calls to Zahir a dozen times. However, the nature of these calls hasn’t been disclosed yet.

    “I have nothing to do with what happened [at Jaffer House]. These are absolutely false findings. Whatever the folks are saying is incorrect, as I have no connection with this [Noor Mukadam] murder,” Trillium Information Security Systems’ owner told Gishkori.

    The court denied bail to Zahir’s parents. Asmat Jaffer arrived at Quaid-e-Azam International Airport, Karachi, at 6:30am on July 21, throughout on call. Upon her arrival, she did not go to her family home. She went straight to sector F-8 for a few hours, before going to a friend’s house in sector F-6.

  • Anoushey disappointed over preferential treatment for Zahir Jaffer, Mariyam supports Wishah Abubakr

    Anoushey Ashraf has expressed her disappointment over the preferential treatment for Zahir Jaffer by authorities of Adiala Jail. Zahir was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad on Wednesday afternoon for a headache.

    “Every time Zahir Jaffer asks for hospitals, bail and nice ironed shirts to wear to his trials.I hope the people deciding his fate remember, see and shudder when they think of this angelic face,” wrote Anoushey.

    “I hope they can’t sleep knowing she’s waiting on them to deliver justice,” she added.

    Netizens demanded the end of special treatment towards the alleged murderer, after which Punjab Jail Minister Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan ordered prison authorities to stop any preferential treatment for Zahir.

    Diyar-e-Dil star Mariyam Nafees has raised voice for Wishah Abubakr who has has accused her husband, Shahzawar Bugti, the son of Nawab Akbar Bugti, of domestic violence by sharing her private videos on social media.

  • Zahir Jaffer has headache, moved to and then discharged from PIMS hospital

    Zahir Zakir Jaffer, the main accused in the July 20 murder of Noor Mukadam, was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad on Wednesday afternoon with a headache, according to doctors at the hospital, Arab News reported.

    “Zahir Jaffer was brought to the PIMS emergency room today afternoon for a checkup,” Khawaja said. “He was checked for a headache and his blood pressure and temperature were also noted, which were found to be normal.”

    A doctor at PIMS, Waseem Khawaja, confirmed this to Arab News saying that Jaffer was brought to the hospital but was discharged after a brief check up.

    “Nothing to be worried about, he was found to be in good health,” the doctor added.

    Deputy Executive Director Dr Zulfiqar Ghauri, also confirmed the news to Arab News.

    Noor Mukadam’s sister Sara Mukadam has penned down a heartfelt for her sister on the social media site, Instagram, talking about her sister, who was brutally murdered in Islamabad on July 20.

    “Noorah! I miss you so much! I don’t know how to live a life without you. I miss you every breathing moment. We had made so many plans for your birthday this year,” wrote Noor’s sister while sharing a picture of herself with Noor.

    “Noorah! I miss you so much! World is not the same without your Noor. We can never celebrate another birthday, another Eid, or lead normal lives,” she added more.

    Noor Mukadam is the daughter of a former Pakistani diplomat. She found murdered at a residence in the capital’s upscale Sector F-7/4 and the alleged murderer, Zahir Jaffar was arrested for the murder.

    Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed on Monday said that they [government] cannot have the Noor Mukadam case suspect, Zahir Jaffer, killed in a police encounter. He was addressing a press conference in Islamabad.

    Rasheed sarcastically said that the “active ladies in Islamabad” and “large social media” have ruled out the possibility of an extrajudicial killing.

    The interior minister added that the investigation is complete and the forensic test has been conducted. He said that all the evidence has been provided to the court. He hoped that the court will hand down a death sentence to Zahir Jaffer.

    A local court in Islamabad on Monday sent Zahir Jaffer, the key suspect in the Noor Mukadam murder case, to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.

  • Amnesty International calls upon Pakistani authorities to grant permission to Aurat March Faisalabad

    Amnesty International South Asia has called upon Pakistani “authorities to grant Aurat March Faisalabad all necessary permissions and provide them security”.

    “The right to peaceful assembly is protected by all major human rights conventions and the Constitution of Pakistan,” added the statement.

    ‘Aurat March’ in Faisalabad was called off on Sunday, reportedly due to pressure from the municipal administration, which refused to issue a no-objection certificate (NOC) to the organisers, reports Dawn.

    As per some people on social media, Assistant Commissioner Faisalabad did not grant the permission to hold the march.

    However, journalist Benzair Shah asked Assistant Commissioner Faisalabad City Ayub Bukhari about the reported news to which he replied, “I don’t give permissions, the deputy commissioner (DC), who is my boss, will give permission. If they [the organisers] get permission, well and good.”

    He also denied giving any comments on Noor Mukadam’s murder.

    Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday, in an interactive session with the general public via phone calls, answered a question about the Noor Mukadam case. He said that he has been overseeing the case since day one and that he will ensure that justice is served.

    “I’m looking over the Noor’s case since day one, and I know about all the details”, adding that people say that the [alleged] murderer belongs from a very influential family so maybe he can escape justice. Let me tell you, no matter how powerful the assailant’s family is or whether he is a US national, he will not be spared” he said.

    During the interactive session, the PM also criticised the partial coronavirus lockdown imposed by the Sindh government against the federal government’s wishes, explaining that doing so would break the back of the common man.
