Pakistan strongly condemns another BJP official’s remarks against Holy Prophet (PBUH)

Pakistan has strongly condemned the highly provocative and sacrilegious remarks against the Holy Prophet (PBUH) by another official of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Indian police had on Tuesday detained BJP leader T. Raja Singh, a lawmaker in the southern state of Telangana, on suspicion of “promoting enmity in the name of religion” after Muslim groups demanded his arrest for his comments about the Holy Prophet (PBUH), reports Dawn.

“Pakistan condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the highly provocative and sacrilegious remarks made against the Holy Prophet (PBUH), by Raja Singh, a BJP official and a member of the state legislative assembly of the Indian state of Telangana,” a statement issued by the Foreign Office (FO) read.

“These highly derogatory remarks have gravely hurt the feelings of the people of Pakistan and billions of Muslims around the world.”

Pakistan demands the Indian government to take immediate and decisive action against the BJP members habitually involved in attacking Islam and targeting the dignity of beloved Prophet (PBUH),” the statement added.

“The fact is that India is nothing more than an undeclared ‘Hindu Rashtra’ where Muslims are routinely denigrated, dispossessed and marginalised and their religious beliefs are trampled under majoritarian hegemonism.”

The FO also called out the “deafening silence” of the top BJP leadership on the abhorrent incident, saying it manifestly reflected their approval and complete support to the radical Hindu zealots within and beyond the BJP.

In June, BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal, also passed derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

TLP worker arrested in India, allegedly plotting to murder BJP’s Nupur Sharma: Indian media

A 24-year-old Pakistani man was detained near the India-Pakistan international border in Rajasthan.

As per media reports, he was allegedly planning to kill Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman Nupur Sharma who made derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in June.

According to Indian media reports, the man is influenced by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

The accused, identified as Rizwan Ashraf, son of Mohammad Ashraf is a resident of Mandi Bahauddin. He had sneaked into India from Hindumalkot international border. He was arrested on the intervening night of July 16-17.

“In the preliminary interrogation, he revealed his plan to kill BJP leader Nupur Sharma. He seems to be religiously motivated. He was produced before a court from where he was sent into police custody for five days,” said Superintendent of Police (SP), Anand Sharm.

His connections, according to the SP, are also being questioned.

Rizwan is the same man who in August 2021 vandalised Ranjit Singh’s statue, reports Roohan Ahmed for Urdu News. He was later released on bail.

As per Rizwan’s father, his son left home before Eid-ul-Azha. His father said that he told his mother that he is going somewhere but did not tell his family where he is going.

Indian authorities have not contacted Pakistani authorities in this regard.

According to a TLP leader, Rizwan is only a worker of the party.

‘Shameful, apologise to the whole country’: Indian Supreme Court to Nupur Sharma

The Indian Supreme Court on Friday reprimanded the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma, and asked her to “apologise to the whole country”. Sharma was suspended by the BJP after she made derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) last month.

“We saw the debate … the way she said all this and later says she was a lawyer, is shameful. She should apologise to the whole country,” reports NDTV.

“She is single-handedly responsible for what is happening in the country,” reports The Hindustan Times.

According to India Today, the court noted that Sharma’s comments were made either for “cheap publicity, a political agenda or for some nefarious activities”. The court also said that she had “threatened the security of the nation”.

“A spokesperson can’t make such statements. Sometimes power goes into the heads of people and they think they are everything,” the Indian SC bench said.

Last month, after hashtags calling for the boycott of Indian products began trending on Twitter in Arab countries over derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal, India’s ruling party suspended Sharma and expelled Jindal.

Muslims took to the streets across Asia, including India, where protesters faced a crackdown by the Indian authorities.

Meanwhile, multiple cases were registered against Sharma in different cities, following which she moved the Indian SC to transfer all cases against her to Delhi.

The veteran actor said to NDTV, “I cannot speak for them. I am not in the position they are in. I feel they think they would be risking too much. But then, I don’t know how they explain to their own conscience about it. But I think they are in a position where they have too much to lose.”

He also gave an example of Aryan Khan’s arrest in an alleged drug case. What happened to Shah Rukh Khan and the dignity with which he faced it was admirable. It was nothing but a witch-hunt. He has kept his mouth shut. All he did was support Trinamool and applaud Mamata Banerjee,” he said.
