    Government allocates Rs 20 billion for Azm-e-Istehkam

    The incumbent federal government has approved Rs 20 billion special allocation for the Azme-e-Istehkam operation during a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) to combat terrorism and extremism.

    The meeting, presided over by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, allocated Rs 1.95 billion to Frontier Corp (FC) Balochistan for security expenses of the Reko Diq project and Rs 276.5 million to Frontier Corp Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for project implementation Letters (PILs) out of Rs 2.23 billion.

    Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, initiated by the Pakistan Army, is the seventh operation since the 2000s. It was followed by Rad-ul-Fasad in 2017.

    The cabinet also approved Rs 100,000 sugar export at the request of Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain.

    Security forces kill six terrorists in two separate operations

    Security forces have killed six terrorists in two separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank and North Waziristan districts, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said on Friday.

    According to ISPR, an exchange of fire broke out between Pakistani troops and the terrorists late on Thursday night, June 29, in the Manzai region of Tank.

    “Own troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location. Resultantly, three were sent to hell,” stated ISPR in a statement.

    In another encounter between troops and terrorists in the general area of Razmak, North Waziristan District, three more terrorists were killed.

    As per the ISPR, the militants were actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and killing innocent citizens.

    Former First Lady Bushra Bibi has written a letter to Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif and interim Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi.

    It is being reported that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s wife has sent the letter through her lawyers to the premier and caretaker CM due to fear of a government operation in Zaman Park on Eid.

    The letter states that a court order has been issued in the matter of the government conducting an operation at Imran’s Lahore residence. It further adds that a plan has been hatched to misinterpret the court order, while reminding the recipients that an operation has been conducted in the past despite court orders. The document warns that if an operation takes place in Zaman Park on Eid, then higher courts will be approached.

    Security forces kill 12 TTP terrorists during intelligence-based operation in KP

    The military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), has confirmed that security forces have killed 12 terrorists of the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during an intelligence-based operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Lakki Marwat area.

    “Terrorists were lured in by providing a vehicle for escape that was intercepted and neutralised,” said the ISPR, adding that weapons, ammunition and Afghan currency were also recovered from the terrorists.

    “Locals appreciated the operation and lauded the efforts of Pakistan Army in eliminating terrorism,” the statement concluded.

    Later, a clearance operation was carried out in the area.

    The country is facing rising insurgency, especially in Balochistan and KP, after the outlawed TTP ended its ceasefire with Islamabad in November.

    ANF confiscates more than one tonne of drugs during an operation in Islamabad

    During an operation on Sunday, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) was able to recover more than a tonne of drugs and take two suspects into custody.

    According to a spokesman for the ANF headquarters, the ANF carried out a raid in the Islamabad area after receiving a tip, seizing nearly one tonne of drugs, including 1,020 kg of hash and 28.8 kg of heroin, as well as two members of an inter-provincial drug smuggling ring.

    The refrigerated container contained medicines that were being transported out of Balochistan. After filing a case against the accused, ANF began a new investigation to find other gang members, he continued.

    In other news, the Airports Security Force (ASF) recovered 7 kg of heroin on Sunday as a result of two separate raids at the airports in Lahore and Karachi.

    Asif Ali, a passenger travelling from Lahore to Bangkok, had 5.12 kg of heroin hidden in his hand luggage, according to Anti Narcotic Force (ANF) officers. The accused had expertly concealed the heroin in his hand luggage.

    In the second operation, which was carried out at the Karachi Airport, 1.47 kg of heroin was found in Ahmed Sher’s suitcase, who was travelling from Karachi to Medina.

    While ASF representatives said that the accused had been given to ANF for additional legal proceedings, including drug charges.

    Former Pakistani film actress and host, Reema Khan has disclosed that her husband Dr Syed Tariq Shahab has agreed to perform the high risk procedure of ailing comedian Umer Sharif in the United States.

    Reema turned to Instagram and shared a throwback photo with Umer Sharif and disclosed that Dr. Shahab agreed to perform the high risk procedure and is helping the family in transfer arrangements to America.

    She wrote, “Umer Sharif – one of the greatest comedians of the sub-continent and a real legend of all times. He always was working hard to make other people laugh and smile. Today it disturbs me to know that he is in pain and distress because of his grave illness.”

    “I am proud of my husband – Dr Syed Tariq Shahab who has agreed to perform the high risk procedure and is helping the family in his transfer arrangements to America,” she said. “I have requested him to do all he can to help Umer Sharif Sahib recover from this illness,” she added.

    Reema went on to say, “Thank you Tariq. I pray to Allah PAK to give Shifa in your hand and to give Umer Sahib full and complete recovery. Aameen.”

    Ailing comedian Umer Sharif is expected to travel to the US for medical treatment this week, said his wife Zareen Umer on Tuesday.

    She took to social media from Umer Sharif’s official account and thanked the federal government for helping arrange travel. She also thanked Murtaza Wahab and Chief Minister Sindh Murad ali Shah for arranging an air ambulance. She also thanked Anchor Waseem Badami for highlighting the issue.
