    Bangladesh have won the toss and decided to bowl first against Pakistan. Before the first Test match to be played in Rawalpindi, the toss was delayed due to the wet outfield, but now, considering the situation at the umpire’s ground, it has been decided to do the toss at 2 pm local time, while the game starts at 2:30.

    The first Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh has been delayed as the outfield in Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium remained wet after a spell of rain. The ground is being dried before being inspected again at 11:30 a.m.

    Earlier, both the teams arrived at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with tight security provided on the highway while the teams left their hotels.

    During the teams’ movement, the Metro bus service was also completely suspended on the Rawalpindi to IJP Rawalpindi section.

    The first test match against Bangladesh is Pakistan Red Ball head coach Jason Gillespie’s first international assignment since his April appointment. It will also be Shaun Masood’s first Test match on home soil as captain. A new era will begin in red ball cricket.

  • Pak includes more countries in restriction list, announces strict travel policies

    The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) added nine more countries especially from Europe after a reviewal of the covid situation around the globe on Monday.

    According to the notification issued by NCOC on their website, they revised the list of countries due to the worsening Covid situation.

    The nine countries which are banned by the NCOC are Croatia, Hungary, Netherlands, Ukraine, Ireland, Slovenia, Vietnam, Poland, and Zimbabwe.

    In case of emergency travel from recently banned countries, a strict protocol has to be observed by passengers, including foreigners. Passengers above the age of six years will require full vaccination and must possess a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test report which must be issued 48 hours prior to boarding a plane. On arrival to Pakistan, rapid antigen testing (RAT) will be conducted. Passengers will be allowed to enter Pakistan who test negative.

    Meanwhile, passengers will face compulsory quarantine of three days after a PCR test from South Africa, Mozambique, Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

    Passengers will have to be quarantined for an extra 10 days if they get a positive PCR result on arrival or could be transferred to a hospital depending on the advice from health workers as stated by NCOC.

    However to facilitate the stranded Pakistani nationals from countries who are not able to get double dose vaccination because of some reasons including expiry visa, illegal immigration, medical conditions, pending court cases, pregnancy or partially vaccinated from Pakistan are exempted from the requirement of full vaccination.

    Despite United States (US) Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross’s visit to Islamabad, Pakistan and the US have failed to achieve ‘breakthrough’ for promoting trade ties between the two countries, Geo reported.

    “This high-level visit proved a non-starter because the US did not make any firm commitments on three demands put forth by the Pakistani side on the negotiating table. It can be termed just a posturing visit as a balancing act in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s visit to arch-rival India,” the report said.

    It quoted top officials as noting that the Pakistani side put forward three demands before the US delegation. Pakistan seeks a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), but the US side replied that “they would look into it” and did not make a commitment.

    The delegation also disapproved Pakistan’s proposition to expand GSP Plus list for providing concession on export items from the US side, so it can once again become a non-starting area.

    Furthermore, the Pakistani side demanded moving towards Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). However, the US authorities responded that they would see how things could proceed in future.

    Pakistani officials still seemed confident to believe that the US would respond positively on TIFA front in the coming future, but the optimism seems groundless because no commitments have been made.

    Keeping in view experience of the past many years, there have been several occasions when the US agreed to hold talks on TIFA and the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT), but it always proved a futile exercise after holding sessions for several years.
