‘You expect govt to provide condoms too?’, Indian officer snaps at girl asking for sanitary pads

An Indian Administrative Service (IAS) IAS officer in India’s Bihar city is receiving criticism for giving a reply to a girl who asked if they can be provided with sanitary napkins.

A video in which the IAS officer Harjot Kaur Bamhrah is purportedly seen and heard responding has gone viral on social media.
“When the government is providing us school uniforms, scholarships and so many other things, why can’t it provide Whisper [a brand of sanitary pads] of ₹20-30?” asked the school girl from the IAS officer.

“There is a need to change the mindset. Why [should] the government provide you everything free? Tomorrow you’ll say the government can provide jeans and why not some beautiful shoes thereafter? And eventually, at the time of family planning, you will expect government to provide Nirodh [brand of condom] too,” he replied

When the student reminded her that people’s votes make the government, the officer snapped: “This is height of stupidity. Don’t vote, then. Become Pakistan. Do you vote for money and services?”

Another student complained about a broken bathroom door at her school, to which the officer replied: “Tell me, do you have separate toilets at your home for males and females? If you keep asking for a lot of things at different places, how will it work?”

The officer heads the state’s Women and Child Development Corporation, which organised the function on Tuesday in partnership with Unicef and other organisations.

  • Throwback: Did Rohit Sharma want to become coach of Pakistan’s cricket team?

Throwback: Did Rohit Sharma want to become coach of Pakistan’s cricket team?

From wanting to become Pakistan’s cricket team coach to losing against Pakistan, it’s been a long road for Rohit Sharma.

After Pakistan’s thumping victory against India, an odd video of Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma surfaced on social media.

In the video, the reporter asked Rohit, “What would you suggest to Pakistani batsmen so that they come out of this crisis?” Pakistan had just been comprehensively defeated in World Cup 2019 by arch rivals India.

To this, Sharma sarcastically responded by saying, “If I ever become the coach of Pakistan’s team, I will tell them”.

On September 4, Pakistan won against India by five wickets in a do-or-die match of the Asia Cup 2022. Sharma scored 28 runs. For Pakistan, Shadab Khan picked up two wickets for 31 runs, while Mohammad Hasnain, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah and Muhammad Nawaz took a wicket each.

Prior to this, in another India vs Pakistan match which was played on August 28, Sharma got out after scoring only 12 runs.

In yesterday’s (September 8) match against Afghanistan, Indian cricketer KL Rahul stepped in as captain for the toss. He said that Sharma “wants to take a break”.

Last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Rohit Sharma as the new One Day International (ODI) captain of the Indian cricket team. He took over from his predecessor, batting maestro, Virat Kohli.

Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the Asia Cup, as well as the seven-match T20I series at home against England in September because of a knee injury.

Pakistan will play against arch-rivals India in the Asia Cup in Dubai on August 28.

“Shaheen Shah Afridi has been advised 4-6 weeks rest by the PCB Medical Advisory Committee and independent specialists following latest scans and reports. “Shaheen had suffered a right knee ligament injury while fielding during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.”
“I have spoken with Shaheen and he is understandably upset with the news, but he is brave young man who has vowed to come back strongly to serve his country and team. Although he has made progress during his rehabilitation in Rotterdam, it is now clear he will require more time and is likely to return to competitive cricket in October,” said PCB Chief Medical Officer Dr Najeebullah Soomro.

Shaheen’s replacement for the ICC T20 Asia Cup is yet to be announced.

‘Selfishness, treachery of English cricket’, Peter Oborne schools ECB after Pak win

English author and journalist Peter Oborne, who is very vocal about the mistreatment of Pakistan cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and other cricket boards, has schooled the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after they made a joke on their Twitter account about India and Pakistan match.

“Not your typical Monday morning! How are you feeling in one word,” ECB posted on Twitter with a smiling face.

Replying to the English board, Peter wrote: “I am thinking Pakistan pulled off their great victory last night despite their preparation schedule being cruelly disrupted by the selfishness and treachery of English cricket.”

Earlier, the English author had assailed the English Board for calling off their tour of Pakistan, terming the decision “a kick in the teeth” of Pakistan, to whom English cricket owed a great deal.

New Zealand also abandoned their tour minutes before the opening fixture in Rawalpindi following a “security alert” from their government.

The England men’s and women’s teams were each scheduled to play two Twenty20 international matches on October 13 and 14 in Rawalpindi, with the women’s side due to stay on for a three-match One-day International series from Oct 17-21.

The historic trip would have been the first ever by an England women’s team and the first by their male counterparts since 2005.
