    Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (PM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam and Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul Wazir allegedly got into an argument during the United Nations (UB) Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, revealed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Member National Assembly (MNA) Riaz Fatyana.

    During a session of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Fatyana alleged that the argument between Zartaj and Aslam made the former leave the conference and return to Pakistan.

    He also alleged that the 18-member delegation of the Ministry of Climate Change sat idle at the conference, undertook no activity, and “wasted money”.

    Malik Amin Aslam rubbished Fatyana’s allegations, saying that Zartaj Gul had left the conference midway to head for the joint session of the parliament.

    “Riaz Fatyana has lied before the Public Accounts Committee,” he said. “Not even a single rupee of the government was spent at the conference. It was organised completely by foreign donors,” he added.

    “PTI lawmaker had arrived at the conference via an NGO’s sponsorship and had demanded official protocol,” said Aslam.

    “The party should investigate Fatyana,” he added.

    The Elec­tion Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday seemed unsure about using electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the next polls.

    The observation from the ECP came during a meeting of the members of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Law and Justice.

    During the meeting, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha said the bill introduced electronic voting without omitting the condition of manual voting, which meant that at present the Elections Act allowed both electronic and manual voting in elections, reports Dawn.

    He said the proposed EVM lacked a biometric verification facility and it would rely on manual verification. As a result, “someone can cast vote on the computerised national identity card of a dead man”, he added.

    On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Faisal Javed Khan on Thursday said that the EVM “system can be activated within a month”.

    The senator’s statement came during Geo News’ programme “Capital Talk” while advocating the use of EVMs in the next general elections. He said that the EVMs are “just a one-time expense”.

    “There will be no more expenditure in the future,” said Faisal Javed.

    Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q)  on Sunday decided that it was parting ways with the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and launching its campaign for the next general elections, reports The Express Tribune.

    The official announcement was made after the PML-Q held a meeting, headed by its Punjab president, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, who is also Speaker of the Punjab Assembly.

    The party’s parliamentarians noted that people were facing a hard time in making ends meet because of the government’s “negligence”.

    Earlier, PML-Q Information Secretary Kamil Ali Agha, while speaking on ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’ on Geo News, said: “When the government needs our support, like for passing the budget, it talks to us, otherwise not.”

    “This is a manufacturing fault of [the government], they do not consult their allies on any issue,” said Agha.

    “We are trying our best to abide by the agreement we had with the government, now it depends on the government how it goes about things,” said Agha

    PML-Q is a major ally of the PTI in the Centre and Punjab.

    Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) Information Secretary Kamil Ali Agha, while speaking on ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’ on Geo News, said: “When the government needs our support, like for passing the budget, it talks to us, otherwise not.”

    “This is a manufacturing fault of [the government], they do not consult their allies on any issue,” said Agha.

    “Our elected members are under a lot of pressure because of the government’s performance,” said Agha, adding that the elected members can hardly go to their constituencies.

    Anchorperson Shahzeb Khanzada intervened and questioned that Federal Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan says that the allies are “on-board” with the government and everything is good between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its allies.

    “Ghulam Sarwar is a ‘badshah admi‘ [King]. Despite being the aviation minister, he does not even know how many bills there are in Assembly,” replied Agha.

    “We have good relations with Ghulam Sarwar Khan, he should not have said this,” added Agha.

    “We do not complain unnecessarily. And Ghulam Sarwar is aware of this. We only complain when there is a problem,” said Agha.

    “We are trying our best to abide by the agreement we had with the government, now it depends on the government how it goes about things,” said Agha.

    Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar in a public meeting on Friday warned the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) if it staged a long march to Islamabad to topple the government, “the people gathered in the public meeting will thrash you,” reports Dawn.

    His comments come after the Opposition is considering bringing a no-confidence motion against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani or National Assembly(NA) Speaker Asad Qaiser as a tester to confirm the present strength of treasury in parliament.

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Khurram Dastagir said on a Dawn News TV show that the motion would be moved soon. They said if the motion became successful, then a similar motion could be moved against the prime minister.

    Dastagir said: “The motion can be moved within two months against the Senate chairman or the NA Speaker.”

    Meanwhile, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said at a press conference that “the coalition parties have also expressed confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan”.

    The minister said these words after the premier held a third meeting on Friday with the leaders of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in a week amid “shattered” confidence of allies in the government’s working and the Opposition’s threat to topple the government.

    Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari meets Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman today in Islamabad.

    Geo News reported that the PPP made contact with PDM after having resigned from all PDM offices in April 2021, saying that no party “should try and impose their will and dictation on any other political party”. 

    The meeting comes after the Opposition parties have “united” to adopt a joint strategy against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

    Members of the united Opposition on Thursday met National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaiser twice and asked him to give them in writing the terms of engagements, which should include a categorical statement that it was the government that approached them for dialogue.

    “We are going to communicate to the Speaker that he should give us in writing because we do not want to hear that we (the Opposition) have been pressing for a dialogue,” said Sherry Rehman.

    Anchorperson Waseem Badami, while speaking with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Firdous Ashiq Awan on ARY News programme, ‘Hur Lamha Por Josh’, asked Awan that if the prices of petrol increase, does it mean that the prime minister (PM) is a thief.

    “This is a difficult thing,” replied Awan laughingly.

    “My innocent prime minister [Imran Khan] is saying this that innocent prime minister cannot be a thief.”

    Badami said that since this is a generic question, should he take Awan’s answer as a yes or a no.

    “Take the anwser for this in the middle,” replied Awan.

    Govt to free more than 2,000 jailed TLP activists after agreement

    Pakistan is to free more than 2,000 jailed activists of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP)  and the government has allowed the proscribed organsiation to contest elections, under a deal with the government struck to end weeks of violent clashes, reports Reuters.

    TLP has agreed to avoid violence and withdraw its longstanding demand to have France’s ambassador expelled over the publication of blasphemous caricatures by a French satirical magazine, negotiators from both sides told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government banned the TLP after its protests turned violent earlier this year, designated it a terrorist group, and arrested its chief Saad Hussain Rizvi.

    In addition, the government has agreed not to contest the release of the group’s jailed leader as well as nearly 2,300 activists and to remove their names from a terrorist watch list, the three negotiators told Reuters.

    Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat said nearly 1,000 of the activists had already been released.

    Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry did not respond to Reuters‘ request for comment.

    Govt releases more than 800 TLP supporters arrested across Punjab after agreement

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has started to implement a secretive agreement signed with the proscribed Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), with reports suggesting that it has released more than 800 supporters of the party arrested across Punjab under the deal, reports Geo News.

    The government had signed an accord with the proscribed outfit last Sunday, under which workers of the organisation who are not facing any formal criminal charges were to be released. The amnesty will also extend to the party’s top leader, Saad Rizvi.

    According to the Punjab Home Department, 860 persons who were not facing any formal charges have been released across Punjab.

    It was also decided to withdraw the government’s appeal filed against the release of TLP leader Saad Rizvi. The government had earlier challenged the order of a Lahore High Court (LHC) bench regarding Rizvi’s release.

    Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday complained to the members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that they “do not stand together on any issue”, reports Geo News.

    The prime minister reportedly expressed displeasure over the ‘grilling’ of two federal ministers Fawad Chaudhry and Azam Swati by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and directed other leaders of the ruling PTI to stand by them on the matter. The premier seemed angry over the “disunity” among the PTI leaders.

    The premier told them all to “speak the same language” on national and political issues.

    The prime minister, however, barred PTI leaders from commenting on the government’s latest deal with the proscribed Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

    He expressed these views while presiding over PTI’s core committee meeting, which was held a day after the government signed a secret deal with the TLP.
