The OG Pindi Boy Sheikh Rasheed ka new career?

Agar politics mein ziada maza nahi a raha, then every one should follow the start of Sheikh Rasheed’s rap career with the Pindi Boyz.

The famous Rawalpindi politician set social media ablaze when he made an appearance in the rap group’s latest song ‘Pindi Aye 2.0’ in the begining. He can be seen sitting lazily on a sofa and puffing a cigar, while handing a black dossier to members of the band.

The band, comprising of Hashim Nawaz, Zeeru, Hamzee, Shuja Shah, Usman Ghauri, OCL and Khawar Malik, gained fame on social media with their song ‘Pind Aye’ which has received 20+ million views on Youtube.

On the surprise inclusion of the OG Pindi boy, Karamat told Dawn Images that it had taken them three years to convince the politician to agree to appear in their video. After chasing Rasheed for two months, the gang went to visit him at his house on the third day of Eid in order to shoot the intro.

The group recalled spending two and a half hours with Rasheed, calling him very cool and laidback::

“It was very chill, very laidback. He was like one of us,” Karamat revealed.

The group also recalled how they asked Rasheed to just be himself, since he is known for his street smart style which is quite different from the the rest of the politicians. “Political stuff aside, he looked like Nick Fury while handing us the dossier,” Karamat remarked.

  • Fawad or Marriyum: Whose idea was PTV Flix anyway?

Federal Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb on Sunday announced the launch of the online platform PTV Flix, which will allow users to access thousands of movies, television shows and documentaries online. In a tweet, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) politician revealed that the was an initiative quite close to her heart, as countless iconic shows like ‘Dhoop Kinaray’, ‘Tanhaiyaan’ and ‘Ainak Wala Jin’ can now be easily accessed online.

Aurangzeb also thanked the team at PTV and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, who had helped in making this idea in to a reality:

“I would like to thank and congratulate the team at PTV and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for all their hard work which has made this idea a reality. I would also like to thank our entertainment legends Bushra Ansari Sba, Javed Sheikh Sb and Khalid Abbas Dar Sb for joining me at the launch event.”

However, many tweeps began tagging Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Information Minister, Fawad Chaudhry, crediting him for the initiative. Chaudhry later put up a tweet revealing that this was a project he had began during his tenure.

To which Aurangzeb had a cheeky response, but really who was the person to kickstart PTV Flix?

If we look back, it was Chaudhry who during his tenure as the Minister of Science and Technology, had announced in 2020 in a tweet that his team was working on setting up Pakistan’s version of Netflix, and had already asked regulatory authorities to draft a guideline about the content.

  • ‘You are not safe here’: Former MPA asks Imran to leave Pakistan

‘You are not safe here’: Former MPA asks Imran to leave Pakistan

Former Member of Punjab Assembly (MPA) Mian Jalil Sharaqpuri has suggested that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan should leave Pakistan.

Addressing the former Prime Minister directly during a press conference, he said: “You are not safe here. If something happens to you, the country will break up.” He also said that “all religious parties trust you”.

“No institution can shield you anymore. The nation has high hopes since you are alive,” the former legislator added.

About the uncertainty of elections, Sharaqpuri said he does not see general election in the next two years and asked what the Supreme Court could do in such a situation.

He also claimed that the incumbent government wants to destroy Pakistan like Iraq and Libya.

In the 2018 general elections, Sharaqpuri won an MPA seat on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket, however, after the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly he formally joined PTI.

It is pertinent to mention here that the former ruling party has repeatedly claimed that its chief’s life is in danger. Back in November 2022, Imran Khan survived an assassination attempt after a gunman opened fire on his convoy in Wazirabad.

  • PTI issues ‘white paper’ on Shehbaz led govt’s one year performance

PTI issues ‘white paper’ on Shehbaz led govt’s one year performance

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday issued a “white paper” on the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government’s “one-year dark period”.

The 51-page “white paper” has been divided into six sections. PTI highlighted the incumbent government’s “poor governance, economy, rising inflation, constitution, democracy, the rule of law, political exploitation of state institutions, attack on the judiciary, chained foreign policy, and law and order.

The party has dedicated the white paper to PTI Chairman Imran Khan, party workers, and the people of Pakistan, who are “fighting and facing torture for real independence” and democracy.

Khan — in a video address marking one year since his ouster — threatened to take to the streets if the elections are not held in the country.

“There is no other way except the elections,” he said.

Khan accused former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Genereal Qamar Javed Bajwa of hatching a conspiracy alongside Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif to topple his government with the help of former envoy Hussain Haqqani.

Khan asked, “Would anyone question the man (Bajwa) who ravaged the country’s all indicators for his extension which was promised by present PM Shehbaz Sharif.”

The PTI Chairman admitted that the conspiracy to overthrow his government was not hatched in the US. It was actually Gen Bajwa who had orchestrated the conspiracy with the help of Shehbaz Sharif and then hired Hussain Haqqani to launch propaganda that “Gen Bajwa was pro-America and Imran Khan was anti-America”. “The cipher made entry came only after the conspiracy had taken its roots,” the former premier acknowledged.

Giving a message to the “all-powerful” and Nawaz Sharif for making a ‘London Plan’, the PTI chief said political parties could not be crushed by violence, torture, and harassment tactics.

It is pertinent to mention here that Khan’s government was toppled on April 9 last year through a vote of no-confidence in the National Assembly.

  • ‘Mai in logon ke sath nahi bethoonga, meri team bethegi’: Khan refuses to sit with govt for talks

‘Mai in logon ke sath nahi bethoonga, meri team bethegi’: Khan refuses to sit with govt for talks

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that he will not sit with the government for dialogue, asserting that if any talks are held, his team will participate instead of him.

“I will not sit with the government. And if any dialogues are held on the issue of elections alone, my team, not me, will participate,” said the PTI chief.

“The dialogues should only be held on elections alone. However, I will not sit with those to whom I use to call thieves and corrupt,” he clarified. “And if the talks don’t go towards holding elections, then there is no benefit of dialogues,” he added.

Khan had hoped that after former Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa retired, there will be some change in the treatment given to his party, however, he claimed that matters have become even more difficult than they were before.

“We were hoping that when Gen Bajwa leaves, and there is change of command there would be some change. However, we have seen no change. Everything is the same, or I should say that the policies have intensified,” said Khan in an interview to news website Urdu.com on Sunday.

Khan said that he was not in contact with the establishment. He further said if talks are held on elections alone, his party will talk to anyone. When asked if the establishment has something personal against Khan, he said that he can’t say much about this but he knows one thing for sure that Gen (retd) Bajwa caused a lot of oppression on PTI. “We used to ask the police they would say that we have orders from higher ups,” he stated.

Talking about forced disappearances, Khan said that he knew who was responsible for taking away PTI social media activist Azhar Mashwani.

“We knew who took Azhar Mashwani. It was neither police who was involved nor FIA. We know which agency was behind it,” said Khan.

“There are actually scared. They only want my complete blackout. They have banned me on media and now they’re after my social media presence,” said Khan.

  • ‘Moved from a small jail to a bigger one’: Asia Bibi reveals hardships, poverty in exile

Asia Bibi has given her first interview since 2020 to New Lines Magazine. She left for Canada in 2019 after being acquitted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in a false blasphemy case that led to a death sentence.

Ailia Zehra writes that despite claims from right-wing groups that Bibi received funding from anti-Pakistani groups to live a comfortable lifestyle in Canada, the truth is far from it.

Bibi was a farm labourer residing in the Nankana Sahib district in Punjab. In 2010, she was arrested under the blasphemy laws after an argument with her Muslim neighbours. In 2010, she was arrested and sentenced to death by a judge in Sheikhupura, while the verdict was upheld by the Lahore High Court.

Local politicians like Salmaan Taseer, who was then the Governor of Punjab, and Shahbaz Bhatti, who was the Federal Minister for Minority Affairs and also a Christian, had condemned this arrest. Both were outspoken critics of the blasphemy law and vowed to release Bibi from prison. However, Taseer was shot dead by his bodyguard in 2011, while Bhatti was also assassinated the same year by the Pakistani Taliban.

In 2018 when Bibi was cleared of blasphemy charges by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Bibi was kept under protective custody for six months and then flown to Canada in secret where she reunited with her husband and two daughters.

However, in this interview Bibi reveals that despite getting international support from organizations for her release, since her arrival in Canada she had not received financial support for her ailing husband and two disabled daughters. She works 14 hours a day at a menial job which is not able to cover her expenses. Her health is deteriorating because of a joint ailment.

Bibi said that she was not able to bring her other three children with her. Her husband is unemployed and needs heavy medication without which he could get extremely sick. Bibi also got teary-eyed by opening up about not being able to visit her parents, as her mother passed away while she was in prison and her father is still in Pakistan.

“My biggest sorrow is that I could not get to meet my father before coming to Canada. I will carry this grief in my heart for the rest of my life,” she said.

Bibi also disclosed that there are no organizations to reach out to in order to get her children currently in Pakistan back to her, because the support she was offered at the time of her departure was limited.

Since the three years Bibi and her family have been staying in Canada, she confessed that it has been incredibly hard to adjust to a new lifestyle because of the cultural and language barriers, especially the limited support from Pakistani authorities:

“My husband and I are illiterate,” she confessed. “Our children could not get an education either. You could imagine how hard it would be for someone like us.”

The article explained that although there are many government programs that provide facilities for refugees like Asia and her family, going through the process is over whelming as Bibi was not used to carrying out such procedures. On whether the Pakistani Consulate in Canada had reached out to help with facilities, Bibi said she couldn’t expect them to support her as she is still regarded as a criminal in Pakistan with extremist groups still targeting Christian communities:

“Tehreek-e-Labbaik was asking the government to kill me,” Bibi said. “Under such circumstances, how can the government offer me support?”

Although there was an outpouring of international support, after her escape to Canada media attention faded away and left her with little support to fend for herself and her family:

“Many individuals who used my name to make money have also forgotten me…After my release, I felt like I had been moved from a small jail to a bigger one. During the six months I spent in protective custody, I feared I would be killed or sent back to jail.”

  • ‘Shameful’: Shehzad Ghias, Twitter users criticise Youtuber Mooro for Twitter threat

On Tuesday police forces were deployed at Imran Khan’s house in Lahore to arrest him for avoiding court hearings under the ongoing Toshakhana case, leading to several clashes between police and protestors.

Celebrities like Haroon Shahid expressed their support for Imran Khan, however he was criticized on Twitter for mocking a policeman who was injured at the protests. YouTuber Shehzad Ghias shared a screenshot of the tweet on his Twitter account. YouTuber Mooro sent him a threat in reply which sparked backlash.

Mooro had defended his stance by saying that Ghias had been threatening his friends for a long time and ‘playing the victim’ all along.

“Here is my position, its not about politics, this man, shehzad has embarassed and has been trolling my friends with his toxic tweets and false allegations over the years while holding a moral high ground and pretending to be victim and innocent its a ploy to gain attention.”

To which Ghias responded by saying that he had spoken out against Ukhaano, another YouTuber who had harassment and sexual assault allegations against him, which he will stand by.

“He has blocked me so no clue why he is continuing to tweet about at me. Saw the screenshot of his tweet though. He’s talking about the harassment and assault allegations against Ukhano. I stand by everything I’ve said”

Twitter users criticized Mooro’s insensitive language and for refusing to condemn a fellow PTI supporter trolling an injured policeman online.

  • PTI’s Yasmin Rashid admits that she knew who brought Ali Bilal to hospital in a black Vigo

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Dr Yasmin Rashid has revealed that she knows Raja Shakeel, the owner of the vehicle [Black Vigo] that brought deceased party worker Ali Bilal to the hospital where he breathed his last.

It appears that the former provincial minister knew the information since two days but didn’t reveal it despite the speculation on social media about how Bilal reached the hospital.

When asked on Geo News‘ show ‘Naya Pakistan‘ why she kept quiet, she replied, “Do you think I am always on social media, I have other important things to do as well.”

She said that when she was going to Bilal’s funeral, she was informed by Raja Shakeel himself that he and his guard picked up Bilal who was lying on the side of the road.

Earlier, Interim Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi said that Ali Bilal lost his life in a car accident and not due to custodial torture by the Punjab police.

He claimed that Shakeel informed Yasmin Rashid that Bilal was hit by a car. Later, Rashid also informed party leaders about it at Zaman Park.

On March 8, PTI workers were picked up by the police when a clash took place just before a scheduled election rally.

Later, the party leadership claimed that Bilal was tortured and killed while in police custody. Bilal’s postmortem report, issued by the Mayo Hospital, says the victim suffered “massive blunt trauma”, while a fracture to his skull and subsequent bleeding has been cited as the cause of death. The report also noted damage to his liver, spleen, and testes, which led to profuse bleeding.

  • Ishaq Dar denies reports of financial emergency amidst economic turmoil

Ishaq Dar denies reports of financial emergency amidst economic turmoil

On Friday, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Ishaq Dar denied reports suggesting Pakistan should impose a financial emergency, amidst constant criticism over the current economic turmoil. He berated Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for spreading “fake news” about Pakistan heading towards default. Dar blamed the previous PTI government for pushing the nation of 220 million people on the brink of default, claiming that it was the coalition government that saved the country by prioritising the state over politics.

Dar recalled that when the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) ousted Khan through a no-confidence motion, the leaders of the coalition government had decided to keep aside all political interests in the wider interest of the state. He stated that the PTI leaders have been calling him out since the rupee plunged to a historic low of Rs285.09 a day earlier while February’s inflation hit nearly a 50-year high of 31.5 per cent.

Expressing his surprise and concerns over Khan’s continuous criticism of the coalition government, he said: “I am unable to understate whether he (Khan) has a problem in his leg or brain.” Instead of protecting the national interest, PTI’s leadership tried to sabotage the International Monetary Fund (IMF) deal, Dar said. “Khan’s attitude is selfish.”

According to Geo, Dar reiterated that Pakistan has neither defaulted in the past nor will it default in the future. Referring to Khan’s remarks about default, the finance minister said that the PTI chairman’s statements adversely affect the country’s financial markets. He, however, admitted that the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) reserves fell below $3 billion. It should be noted that the liquid foreign reserves held by the country stand at around $9 billion as of February 24 while the net reserves held by commercial banks stand at around $5.5 billion.

The finance minister revealed that China has renewed a facility under which Pakistan expected an additional inflow of $500 million in the “next few days”. He highlighted the PDM-led government’s economic achievements, stating that the foreign exchange reserves held by the SBP climbed to $3.8 billion from $2.8 billion recorded last month. He maintained that the government returned $6.5 billion of foreign debt during the current fiscal year.

Dar drew a comparison between the economic performance of nearly four years of PTI and almost 11 months of PDM-led government. He shared numeric data to prove that Khan and Co. did everything to “destroy the country,” but the numbers show who is sincere with the country. Dar argued that the opposition — the PTI — has not really improved Pakistan’s standing. However, Pakistan will escape the economic quagmire, he said, adding that the country is making repayments to bilateral and multilateral lenders and has made payments beyond its capacity.

  • Court grants protective bail to Imran Khan

Court grants protective bail to Imran Khan

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has finally approved protective bail till March 3 for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in a case pertaining to protests outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Earlier in the evening, amid tight security, Khan made his way to the courtroom from his house in Zaman Park. He appeared before the judges after being called in numerous times.

‘Impossible’ for Khan to step out of car to reach courtroom

Khan was present within the premises of the LHC, however, leaders of his party said that it would be difficult for him to go towards the courtroom itself.

Senior leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi claimed there are “thousands” of people present inside the compound while alleging that security arrangements are almost “non-existent”. He said it is “impossible” for Imran to step out of his car and reach the courtroom.

Court gives IK a last chance to appear by 5pm today

Earlier today, the high court gave a last chance to Khan to appear before the court by 5pm today as he faces the possibility of arrest ahead of his appearance.

The court had disposed the former Prime Minister’s appeal for exemption from appearance for protective bail, citing doctors’ advice about the leg injury he suffered after being shot in November 2022 in Wazirabad.

According to multiple media reports, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has constituted a four-member team to arrest the PTI head in a separate case related to foreign funding received by his party. Media reports suggest that Khan might be arrested by a Lahore FIA team before his appearance at LHC, and then will be handed over to an Islamabad FIA team.

The FIA team has reportedly also held consultations with lawyer bodies so that the arrest is not disrupted.
