    Is Mohsin Naqvi going to leave Interior Ministry?

    Azaz Syed, a senior journalist at The News, invited reporter Asif Bashir Chaudhry on his YouTube show.

    Asif claimed that according to his sources, Interior Minister of Pakistan Mohsin Naqvi might be leaving the ministry portfolio.

    Journalist Asif Bashir Chaudhry said some other sources have also confirmed, “Rana Sanaullah’s name is being seriously considered for this [Interior Minister].”

    Chaudhry stated, “Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) and coalition parties have objected to the fact that despite being the interior minister of the country, he [Mohsin Naqvi] does not defend party’s policies.”

    Asif further explained, “The job of the interior minister is to defend, explain, elaborate, and discuss the government policy decisions which is not happening at the moment.”

    Journalist Asif Bashir also stated that some friendly countries have also objected to Naqvi’s conduct with them.

    Azaz Syed said he thinks there is a very low probability of this happening although he credited his story.

    Shah Rukh Khan discharged from hospital after suffering heat stroke

    Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has been discharged from a hospital in Ahmedabad on Wednesday after receiving treatment for a heat stroke.

    According to police officials, the Bollywood star might leave the hospital on Thursday, although there has been no statement from the hospital about his health.

    On Tuesday, SRK was in Ahmedabad to watch an Indian Premier League (IPL) match of his team, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at Narendra Modi Stadium.

    The police official said, “Khan is still receiving treatment at the hospital. He might leave today.”

    Shah Rukh’s co-star and co-owner of KKR, Juhi Chawla, also provided a health update about the superstar.

    Speaking to News18, Juhi said, “Shah Rukh was not feeling too well last night, but he is being taken care of and was feeling much better this evening.”

    She added, “God willing, he will soon be up and in the stands on the weekend, cheering the team as we play the finals.”

    Kidnapped girl found from sister’s home in Kotri

    Local police have resolved the mysterious disappearance of an 8th grade student from Kotri area. The missing girl, Karishma Magsi, was recovered from her sister’s house.

    News of the girl’s disappearance went viral on social media.

    Express Tribune reported that Karishma’s father Himmat Ali Magsi initially lodged a case of Karishma’s abduction against his three nephews including Naik Mohammad Magsi, Amir Magsi, and Munir Ahmed Soomro in Kotri police station.

    The police reported that Karishma was recovered from her elder sister’s house living in Daur. The raid happened 12 days after the incident. Later, she was produced in the court.

    The police revealed that the girl’s father created the hoax of her kidnapping and registered a case against the nephews because of his personal enmity with them over property and other domestic issues.

    SHO Khair Muhammad Mallah said that action would be taken against Himmat Ali Magsi for lodging a false case.

    However, Karishma’s parents along with their relatives, protested in front of Kotri Press Club.

    They alleged that the abductors left the child at her elder sister’s house as soon as the case was registered. They also accused the police of pressurising and harassing them.

    They demanded that the Chief Minister and IG Sindh take notice of the unfair attitude of the police and provide justice.

    Telecom companies block 9,000 SIMs of non-filers under FBR directive

    Telecom operators have taken action by blocking the mobile SIMs of approximately 9,000 individuals who have not filed their taxes, following directives from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

    According to a spokesperson from the FBR, this measure has been expedited, with telecom companies receiving updated data daily for the purpose of blocking SIMs.

    It has been revealed that the FBR has already provided data for around 30,000 individuals whose SIMs are earmarked for blocking.

    However, the spokesperson acknowledged that there is still a substantial number of approximately 506,671 individuals who have not filed their Income Tax Return for Tax Year 2023 but are obligated to do so.

    Initially, telecom operators were hesitant to execute this directive, citing various legal concerns. Nevertheless, they eventually consented to manually block SIMs in smaller batches.

    The FBR had issued an Income Tax General Order (ITGO) in late April, instructing the disabling of mobile phone SIMs belonging to over half a million individuals not appearing on the active taxpayer list.

    At the time of issuance, telecom companies were directed to furnish a compliance report by May 15 regarding this matter.

    Islamabad High Court wants missing Kashmiri poet recovered in next four days

    The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the government on Tuesday to safely recover Kashmiri poet Ahmad Farhad.

    During the hearing, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani accepted Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan’s request to adjourn the hearing for the next four days and give time to the government to utilise resources for Farhad’s recovery.

    Justice Kayani asked the investigative officer about developments in the case. The officer told the court that he went to the spy agency’s office, but the sector commander was not there.

    People of Gilgit-Baltistan have been warned of possible Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (Glof) events and floods this week due to the rising temperature in the region.

    Pakistan Meteorological Department on Monday alerted local authorities that daytime temperatures in GB and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to remain four to six degrees Celsius, higher than normal, between May 21 and 27. 

    Wind and thunderstorms are also expected in this time span, reports Dawn.

    Glof and flash floods are likely to affect vulnerable snow-covered and glaciated areas of Gilgit Baltistan and the Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 

    Local authorities have asked people living near glaciers should take precautionary measures. Tourists have also been advised to be careful during rain.

    In 2022, flash floods and Glofs hit many villages in the Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Astore, Skardu, and Gilgit districts of GB.

    Mushahid Hussain Syed, a veteran politician and serving senator from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), recently appeared on a talk show at 92 News channel and alleged that past military high command “was willing to compromise on Pakistan’s missile program, give up Kashmir along with recognition of Israel.”

    When he was asked by the journalist Irshad Ahmad Arif whether relations between Pakistan and China are well, the senator said, “No, because Pakistan’s previous military establishment sent mixed signals despite Chinese support at every international forum, it was playing a double game with China and the US.”

    Hussain stated that the US had clearly given out a statement in its national security strategy in 2022 that India was its strategic partner in this region and China was its enemy.

    According to the senator, “If they [US] consider the Chinese their enemy then how could we play a double game with China despite their consistent support throughout our history?”

    The PML-N leader said that the Chinese are not “children” and they know what Pakistan did to them.

    IT ministry demands Rs20 billion to improve country’s cybersecurity, social media

    The federal government has sought Rs20 billion for the next fiscal year to improve the country’s cybersecurity and manage social media. According to the proposal, the government will only allow social media platforms to operate if they establish local offices.

    The Ministry of Information Technology has demanded Rs20 billion for the Digital Information Infrastructure Initiative (DIII) in the 2024-25 fiscal year budget, according to government sources who spoke to The Express Tribune.

    The Express Tribune requested comments from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Information Technology, but they did not respond. Government sources also revealed that Rs15 billion has already been allocated as a technical supplementary grant to the information technology ministry for the current fiscal year.

    However, the total cost of the DIII project, which is equipped with Chinese technology, is Rs38 billion. The government is spending a significant amount this year, and the remaining amount has been requested for the next fiscal year.
