CJP Isa disappointed at Faizabad Commission report

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa on Monday condemned the Faizabad Dharna Inquiry Commission stating that the report was “very disappointing” and he was “surprised” to read it.

The CJP made these comments as a three-member bench — headed by Isa himself — resumed the hearing of the federal government’s review petition after the inquiry commission, formed to investigate the Faizabad sit-in, submitted its report.

The commission was made on SC orders following the case regarding the 2017 dharna by TLP in Islamabad. The commission gave a “clean chit” to the former spymaster General (retd) Faiz Hameed and former Punjab Rangers director general Major General (retd) Azhar Naveed Hayat.

“What did the commission do? It just wasted time. The commission is just making speeches,” said CJP Isa during the hearing.

“It seems that all this was done just to exonerate General Faiz,” he observed.

‘Taliban has taken over most of KP areas’ claims Mohsin Dawar

Mohsin Dawar, former MNA and political rights activist, recently claimed that “Taliban have taken over most of the areas in KP.”

Dawar appeared on journalist Azaz Syed’s YouTube channel and remarked, “North Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and South Waziristan are almost completely taken over by them [Taliban].”

Dawar also said that even big cities like Peshawar are not safe anymore.

When Azaz Syed asked if he was talking about Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) specifically, Mohsin Dawar replied, “There are many groups involved but the majority is TTP that has occupied these areas.”

When the journalist dug further into the former minister’s big claim, Dawar stated “This is not a claim but a reality. You yourself reported on the issue of abduction of session judge from DI Khan by TTP.”

Dawar was referring to the Sessions Judge Shakirullah Marwat, who was abducted by TTP members on Dera Ismail Khan’s Tank Road and later released. KP government allegedly paid Rs 5 crore to TTP for his release.

  • Here’s why Selena Gomez said sorry to Palestine supporter

Here’s why Selena Gomez said sorry to Palestine supporter

Selena Gomez got into trouble after posting an innocuous picture on Instagram. In the picture, there was a Starbucks coffee cup in the background. People got really mad at her because she not only bought coffee from Starbucks but also showed it off on her platform. This upset people because there’s a global boycott against brands connected to or supporting Israel, and Starbucks is one of them.

But some fans got upset, as Starbucks had been boycotted by supporters of the Palestinian cause and labour unions alike. One person criticized her for not knowing about the campaign against Israel called Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS).

People who support the BDS campaign are asking others to stop supporting Starbucks as Israel continues genocide in Gaza. One fan commented, “She really deserves all the hate she can’t be that stupid,” saying that Selena Gomez can’t really be unaware that Starbucks is connected to Israel’s controversial apartheid of Palestinians.

In reply, the singer directly addressed the criticism. She admitted she didn’t know about the issue and said sorry if she upset anyone. She responded to the comment, saying, “I did not know. So apparently I am that stupid. I’m sorry.”
The criticism shows how much the BDS movement is growing. They want companies and people stop supporting Israel because of the conflict with Palestine.

After Israel started a military operation on October 7, which led to the deaths of many Palestinians, people criticized Gomez for not showing support. When she said that one post wouldn’t make a difference, she faced a lot of criticism. Then, her makeup brand’s Instagram page posted about the crisis in Gaza and said they wanted to help. They also shared the donations they made to organizations like the International Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies – Magen David Adom and Palestinian Red Crescent Society.
However, one X user pointed out how Gomez was still “both siding” the situation, especially given that Magen David Adom is Israel’s National Emergency Pre-Hospital Medical and Blood Services Organization. “She’s donating to Magen David Adom who support the IDF and the killing of Palestinian kids,” said the user of the site formerly known as Twitter. “This is a ‘both sides’ post. Why are you donating to MDA which is literally supporting the IDF? Supporting both sides is not activism.”

  • PTI to hold jalsas on May 9th

PTI to hold jalsas on May 9th

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has issued a notification carrying information of party leadership’s planned activities for May 9th 2024, including “Rallies/Jalsas at every Provincial Assembly level across Pakistan.”

May 9th has become a grim event for the party and its workers. A year ago, party leaders and workers became part of protests that led to violent riots and attacks on army installations across the country. Many leaders now face trials in civilian and military courts.

The notification was signed by PTI’s Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan.

The circular showed that the instructions had been given by the founder Chairman Mr. Imran Khan.

The activities include hoisting Pakistan and PTI flags on buildings and “PM Imran Khan’s photo on placards with Qaidi Number 804 written on placards to be prominently displayed.”

  • PTI will never allow any legislation for CJP Isa’s extension

PTI will never allow any legislation for CJP Isa’s extension

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Qaiser has stated that his party will not allow any “politically motivated” constitutional change that would pave the way for extending the tenure of Chief Justice of Pakistan.

His statement came after Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar’s statements hinted at judicial reforms that would change the traditional approach to selecting judges for the Supreme Court as well as high courts.

“We will not allow any such legislation. There are political motives behind it,” said the Asad Qaiser.

According to media reports, the government was mulling that the tenure of the top judge should extend to a fixed term, besides judicial reforms.

It should be noted that CJP Isa had assumed charge of the top court in September 2023 and will retire in October 2024.
