Actress Nausheen Masud passes away from cancer

Her death was announced by her ex-husband Tariq Quraishi in a Facebook post:

“My ex-wife, Nausheen Masud, passed away this morning after a long and tough battle with cancer. She loved her two sons immensely. They were her babies, her advisors and her eyes lit up whenever she saw them. May she rest in peace leaving behind wondrous memories for her sons.”

Celebrities have offered condolences on the actress’ passing. Adnan Siddiqui wrote:

“Farewell to the remarkable Nausheen Masud, dear friend and beautiful soul. Her warmth and style added magic to every moment we shared on and off camera. Grateful for the memories we co-created. Rest peacefully, Nausheen.”

GEO anchor Shahzad Iqbal shared an endearing memory of Nausheen pushing him to debut in front of the camera. Shahzad wrote on X about admiring Nausheen who was his first boss when he began working.

“I am sure it’s sad news for many who knew her but it’s extremely sad on personal level as well. I owe her big time for giving me my first break. I had always admired Nausheen Masud as a VJ on a music show in mid 90s and later she happened to be my first Boss when I started working. She hired me as an Associate documentary producer but later she literally forced me to come in front of the camera, first as a business reporter and then as an Anchor. May be she had more faith in me at that time than myself. And there are many more who started their TV careers because she believed in them. May Allah rest your soul in peace.. Please pray for the departed soul.”

GEO anchor Shahzeb Khanzada also took to Twitter to share his condolences on the actor’s passing, and shared his experience of working with Nausheen during the beginning of his career.

  • Superstar Mahira Khan ties the knot with Salim Karim in intimate ceremony

Superstar Mahira Khan ties the knot with Salim Karim in intimate ceremony

Pakistan’s sweetheart Mahira Khan made social media sob last night when videos emerged of her intimate wedding to longtime beau Salim Karim. In a posted on Instagram by her brother Hissan Khan, the actress looked absolutely breathtaking in an ivory lengha choli along with a patterned veil and her hair in a bun, as she hugged her betrothed at the altar.

In another clip posted by her manager Anushay T Khan, Mahira and her beau could be seen shedding tears as they walked towards each other on their wedding day. The video moved social media users, many getting emotional while watching the sobbing couple.

The details we know are that the wedding took place in an undisclosed location in Bhurban, with only childhood friends and family members present who weren’t allowed to keep their phones during the three day ceremony. Esteemed wedding destination photgrapher Izzah Shaheen Malik was selected for the photographs and video coverage of the event. Mahira Khan had reportedly picked Faraz Mannan for her big day.

Rumors began circulating that the Pakistani superstar was finally committed and in love when in 2020 during an interview with Samina Peerzada, Mahira confirmed that she was in love and disclosed that the person was not from the industry. In a live talk hosted by fashion designer HSY, the actress gushed about her beau saying:

“There’s a line in Humsafar which I thought was beautiful, where Ashar says to Khirad, ‘Pata nahi tum mujhay kis naiki ke badlay mein mili ho’ and I think the same about him. I must have done something good in my life that God has sent him my way.”

Mahira’s beau Salim Karim is a business tycoon, the CEO of the startup Simpaisa, and also a professional DJ.

This is the ‘Verna’ superstar’s second marriage. She divorced first husband Ali Asghar in 2015, with whom she shares a son Azlan.

We’re sending our sincerest congratulations to the happy pair, and are eagerly waiting for more pictures to arrive of the joyous occasion.

  • Mahira Khan’s ‘Razia’ is speaking about the plight of young women in Pakistan like no one else

Mahira Khan’s ‘Razia’ is speaking about the plight of young women in Pakistan like no one else

Bold, confident and hard-hitting, Mahira Khan is back once more and this time she is not afraid to hold up a mirror to society’s face. Her new drama ‘Razia’ is creating buzz on social media. Mahira is no longer the sweet and naive female lead as we have known her. She’s the narrator who tells the story of how a young girl born in a conservative household in Pakistan learns to overcome every hardship to chase her dream.

From the get go, this show keeps you hooked by telling you a story we’re all familiar with, but every episode is a gut punch on how Pakistani girls are robbed of their dreams and hopes because of patriarchy. Mahira waltzes around the stage and speaks with the audience about the journey of the young girl Razia, whose birth was a disappointment for the grandmother who wanted a boy. From that point, she continues to be punished for the crime of being born a daughter.

Two episodes in, and we’re already awed by how the show speaks out on the ways young women are deprived of their dreams, whether it is something as small as eating after their brother does, or as monumental as Razia’s father banning her from playing outside because she is older now. And already, some of the powerful monologues in the episodes are gaining praise on social media.

A user praised this scene where in a monologue from episode 1, Mahira points out how young girls today are no longer murdered on their birth, but are today buried alive by the consistent backlash society imposes on them

  • ‘Went out for a pack of cigarettes, still waiting for him to come back’: Ushna Shah talks about her absent father

‘Went out for a pack of cigarettes, still waiting for him to come back’: Ushna Shah talks about her absent father

Actress Ushna Shah responded to a thread on X, (formerly Twitter) which asked users to tell something about their fathers. The ‘Habs’ actress responded with a heartbreaking anecdote about how her father abandoned her.

“Went to buy a pack of cigarettes when I was an infant, will be back any minute…” the actress tweeted.

Underneath the post, users expressed sorrow but Ushna said that because of her strong mother, she grew up to be an accomplished woman.

The actress shared a very important point yesterday about how she hoped dramas would stop turning issues like divorce into a stigma, and write scripts that encourage women to walk out of toxic marriages. She said her mother worked hard to raise Ushna on her own, which is something we also wish more Pakistani show producers would understand.

READ MORE: ‘Divorce is not a stigma, fix the drama scripts’: Ushna Shah

“Many scripts I work on perpetuate shame around divorce. While I can’t reshape the conventions of scriptwriting or opt for unemployment, I stand by a vision. As the child of a divorcee who hustled with three jobs to raise us, the stigma on divorced characters feels deeply personal. I’m eager to be part of a story that addresses the stigma of divorce and combats the shame of being single after, celebrating the journey to independence and joy. Convincing producers to back such a risqué script, which may face societal backlash, is very challenging.”

  • ‘Sach chupta nahi hai’: Alizeh Shah responds to Minsa Malik’s FIR

‘Sach chupta nahi hai’: Alizeh Shah responds to Minsa Malik’s FIR

Actress Alizeh Shah has responded to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Minsa Malik, addressing the allegations in a detailed post by blogger Ayesha Jahangir Malik on her Instagram stories, debunking the version of events narrated by Malik.

According to Ayesha, Malik slapped Alizeh first and accused her of misconduct.

“…In reality this other woman slapped Alizeh first and initiated physical violence breaking all and any professionalism on set.”

The post also mentioned that despite the claim made by Minsa, footage exists of evidence that Alizeh began the conflict, while crew members sided with the ‘Tanaa Banna’ actress had been professionalism and kept work ethic in check despite being assaulted:

“The crew, fellow artists and everyone involved is on Alizeh’s side because the incident occurred around 6 pm and Alizeh did not even leave the set till 12 am after she completed her shoot even after being humiliated and assaulted infront of everyone and that speaks volumes of her work ethic.”

Actress Minsa Malik has filed an FIR against Alizeh Shah, accusing her of abuse and misbehavior during a shoot.

According to multiple news outlets, the FIR was filed in Islamabad on August 15, with Malik requesting authorities to provide her with security.

Speaking to Samaa, Malik revealed that an accident occurred during filming of a scene for an upcoming drama. She stated that Alizeh was unprofessional towards her since the day they started shooting, nagging her in a variety of ways, describing her behaviour as a case of “professional jealousy.”

“The camera was rolling, and I was in the scene. Alizeh Shah was also present, and she was clearly high on drugs. She approached me and threw a marijuana cigarette at me. I moved back to avoid her, and in reaction, I slapped her. She then started acting violently. She used abusive language and tore her own clothes while yelling.”

“Alizeh Shah tried to throw her sandal at me, but I moved out of the way. She was completely high when she misbehaved. The camera shooting the scenes also captured the video of us during the chaos. Alizeh insisted that the video should not get out, as it would be the ultimate source of her defamation.”

We will update this article after we receive a statement from Alizeh Shah or her team.

  • ‘So unethical’: Actress Romaisa Khan slams fans for requesting selfies in ICU

‘So unethical’: Actress Romaisa Khan slams fans for requesting selfies in ICU

‘John’ actress Romaisa Khan has slammed fans for approaching her to take selfies while she was in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for her mother’s surgeries. The former Tik Tok star revealed that she had been anxious and praying for her mother’s surgery to go well, when the nurses present at the hospital kept begging her to take selfies with them, not recognising how improper it was to approach someone who is worried about their parent’s illness.

“Some people are so insensitive,” lamented the ‘John’ actress on her Threads account. “I know we are public figures but not public properties, so it’s unethical that my mom is in the ICU screaming in pain almost fighting for her life and where I am crying and praying outside and nurses literally making videos and asking for a selfie.”

Khan reminded her followers that it is alright to approach her at a public event or mall for a picture, but not at all okay to crowd her in a hospital, especially when she is taking care of her parent.

“Events or malls most welcome but in such sensitive situations please learn how to act,” she wrote.

Lets all remember that celebrities are human beings like the rest of us. It’s not at all acceptable to invade someone’s personal space, regardless of whether they are famous or not, especially at a time when they are worried about their loved ones.

  • Meray Pass Old Gentleman Hai? Yumna Zaidi, Humayun Saeed pairing draws mixed reviews

Meray Pass Old Gentleman Hai? Yumna Zaidi, Humayun Saeed pairing draws mixed reviews

Yesterday, it was officially announced that actress Yumna Zaidi and Humayun Saeed will be pairing up for an upcoming drama for Green Entertainment, penned by the ‘Mere Pass Tum Ho’ screenwriter Khalil-ul-Rehman Qamar, and produced by Saeed’s wife, Samina Humayun.

This is the first time the two will be coming together on the screen together. Social media users were thrilled that the actress never stops dominating the screen.

    https://twitter.com/kyakaruun/status/1681005153023926273?s=20

However, not everyone agreed that the news was exciting, slamming screenwriter Rehman and Humayun Saeed for once more, pairing an older actor with a woman decades younger than him. Yumna Zaidi is currently 33 years old, while Humayun is 51.

Many were happy with the casting because of the stellar performances both actors have given in past projects, but were concerned because of the age difference.

Saeed has been criticised in the past for working with younger women as romance leads in films, like Ayeza Khan is 32 years old but had played his wife in ‘Mere Pass Tum Ho’. While in the film ‘London Nahi Jaunga’, Kubra Khan was 30 years old.

    https://twitter.com/xakyanaseem/status/1681199828414476290?s=20

If we revert back on Pakistan’s pop culture history a bit, then some would remember in 2019, veteran actor Firdous Jamal was a guest on an ARY show where he said that Mahira Khan is of the age where she should be playing grandmother roles. A bit rich considering that men of the same age are still romancing younger women?

Hopefully, Pakistani dramas can listen and get out of this creepy mindset!

  • ‘Stop body shaming’: Twitter gets ugly over politics

As the political crisis in the country continues, social media has been set ablaze with feuds between users and public figures. One such recent altercation took place between Iffat Omar and Sara Taseer.

Taseer, who has been a staunch supporter of Imran Khan, had tweeted in favor of the former cricket player by asking him to pack his bags and escape the country to avoid her late father Salmaan Taseer’s fate.

However, actress and former model Iffat Omar, who has publicly condemned Imran Khan on social media, mocked the tweet.

To which Taseer responded by saying

“Someone get this C grade “has been” model @OmarIffat off my case. May the excessive lip filler causing her mouth to look like a giant balloon help her to float off into the sunset, far away from civilised society where she doesn’t belong.”

    Iffat Omar retorted:

“Was not taking to u ugly woman just asked your mad leader to listen to pathetic woman like u so chill and lay of, criticizing my lips you have some nerves woman. I mean just look at u.”

Twitter users criticised the response to Omar as the incorrect way to respond to someone whose political beliefs are different from yours.
