    Mahira Khan says she was scared of doing Indian projects

    Mahira Khan has opened up about the ban on Pakistani artists in India, saying said she was “scared” to sign web series on Indian platforms.

    Talking about the ban on Pakistani artists, Mahira in an interview with Film Companion, said: “I guess, having experienced it firsthand, it’s just sad. When I think about it… I mean, we have all moved on.”

    “That’s what we do, if we don’t have this, we do something else. That’s what happens. But I feel like a great opportunity for the entire subcontinent to come together and collaborate was lost. I think it might happen again. Who knows?” continued the actor.

    Khan, who will narrate one of the short stories, Guriya in an upcoming Zee5 series, said that she received offers for other digital projects but turned them down.

    “A lot of the other series were offered to me and at that time… I don’t know if anybody will understand when I say this, I was scared. I was genuinely just scared. It wasn’t about what people say, I was just like, ‘I don’t know if I want to go there.’ And there was some content which was amazing, and I didn’t want to miss out on it,” shared the actor.

    Mariyam Nafees has shared pictures from her Dua-e-Khair.

    Sharing pictures from her Dua-e-Khair photoshoot, the Yakeen ka Safar actor wrote: “Found crazy to my crazy.”

    “Thank you for giving me the kind of love I didn’t know existed,” she wrote for her fiancé Amaan Ahmed.

    The couple opted for simple attire. While Mariyam glowed in a pink suit with golden embroidery, light jewellery and gajras, Amaan wore a simple white kurta.

    “I believed true love doesn’t exist anymore. I was wrong. Thank you for loving me the way you love me,” Amaan said, sharing a photo of the couple running through the trees.

    “Adventures of the hero (you) and the sidekick (me) begins,” he joked.

    Maryam rose to fame with HUM TV’s Diyar-e-Dil, starring alongside Osman Khalid Butt, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Sanam Saeed and Maya Ali. She was last seen in Jhooti as Iqra Aziz’s sister-in-law and Fitrat.

    Mahira Khan to turn storyteller for Zee’s ‘Yaar Julahay’

    Mahira Khan is all set to be seen again on Indian screens with Yaar Julahay, a series of dramatic readings that will air on Zee Theatre.

    According to reports in the Indian media, Mahira will feature in the opening episode of the 12-part Zee Theatre series, which will be airing next week. She will be reading Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi’s classic story, Guriya.

    Guriya follows two best friends Mehra and Bano. Bano has a doll (Guriya) that resembles Mehra, but the latter doesn’t like that doll at all. With time, their fondness and hate for the doll grows. Towards the end comes an unexpected twist that unfolds the mystery around the doll.

    Yaar Julahay also brings to life stories of legendary Urdu and Hindi writers such as Gulzar, Saadat Hasan Manto, Ismat Chughtai, Munshi Premchand, Amrita Pritam, Qurratulain Haider, Balwant Singh, Asad Muhammad Khan, Ghulam Abbas, Rajinder Singh Bedi and Intezar Hussain.

    Other readers who are part of the series include Sarmad Khoosat, Sarwat Gilani, Nimra Bucha, Yasra Rizvi, Fawad Khan, Sania Saeed, Irfan Khoosat, Samiya Mumtaz, and Faisal Qureshi.

    Humsafar maker Sarmad Khoosat, who is directing as well as reading, said in a statement that the series is inspired by ‘Dastangoi‘, a tradition of creating and telling stories that defines South Asia.

    “We have interpreted Dastangoi in a contemporary way and there is also live and recorded music along with suggestive details articulating the theme of the story. For instance, when I directed Mahira Khan for Guriya, the set was strewn with dolls. They created an eerie atmosphere that augmented the narration and enhanced the mood of the reading”, he added.

    Chief Creative Officer Special Projects ZEE Shailja Kejriwal, while speaking about the project said: “Each episode of Yaar Julahay features the immersive reading of a remarkable story that is as unique and complex as the subcontinent we live in. Each one of the featured writers has processed reality through characters that we can still identify with.”

    “It was a joy to work on these classic tales with Kanwal and Sarmad Khoosat because we have collaborated with them before and they always approach a project with a certain artistic sensitivity and deep respect for the material they are working with. Their sensibility was needed for a project as unique as this,” she added.

    The first episode of the series featuring Mahira is expected to air on May 15, 2021.

    As per reports, Sohai Ali Abro was the first choice and the actor had even shot a few scenes for the drama before the shoot was halted due to COVID-19 and lockdowns. Later, Abro had to exit the show due to personal reasons.

    A source also confirmed to The Current that Sohai was the original choice for the character.

    Meanwhile, netizens are divided over Ayeza’s casting in the show. While many are praising her for her performance, there are some who are criticising the makers for casting Khan as a young, 20-something clumsy girl, given that she has two children and her last roles in Meharposh and Meray Paas Tum Ho were mature ones.

    Written by Saima Akram Chaudhry of Suno Chanda fame and directed by Danish Nawaz, Chupke Chupke airs on Hum TV at 9 pm daily. The ensemble cast also includes Osman Khalid Butt, Mira Sethi, Asma Abbas, Uzma Beg, Arslan Naseer, Aymen Saleem, Ali Safina and Salman Mani Shaikh among others.

    Veteran actor and Bushra Ansari and Asma Abbas’ elder sister Sumbul Shahid has passed away after a long battle with COVID. The actor has been on the ventilator for several days now with Bushra and Asma requesting fans and followers for prayers.

    According to reports, Shahid was admitted in a local hospital in Lahore. Further details are not known as yet.

    Sumbul was last seen in Nand in which she played Faiza Hassan and Shahroz Sabzwari’s mother.

    Asad Siddiqui took to Instagram stories to announce the demise of Sumbul Shahid. He wrote: “Zara’s Khala Sumbul Shahid passed away. Please pray for her and the family.”

    Later celebrities turned to their social media to pay tribute to the departed soul.

    Annoyed with the constant interference, Nausheen scolded Liaquat saying: “Listen, Dr Sahab. Oh My God you talk nonstop and don’t listen to the other person at all and that’s what I am fed up with.”

    Earlier, Saboor Aly refused to entertain Liaquat’s antics after he kept teasing her throughout the show.

    In a video, circulating on social media, two gunmen could be seen snatching something from Mani, who was in the driving seat of her car. It is believed that the actor was mugged outside her house.

    Both of Hira’s sons were also present at the scene of the crime and can be seen in the video. Both the robbers, who were on two bikes, left soon after snatching. The good thing was that no one wast hurt.

    Mawra Hocane has sent love to Neetu Kapoor on Rishi Kapoor’s first death anniversary.

    Commenting on Neetu’s post in which she remembered her late husband, Mawra Hocane posted three hearts to extend her love and prayers.

    “All of last year has been of grief and sadness around the world for us maybe more as we lost him,” wrote Neetu, alongside a black and white picture of her and Rishi.

    “Not a day has gone by when we have not discussed or reminisced him as he was an extension of our existence. Sometimes his wise advice, his wisecracks, his anecdotes,” she continued. “We have celebrated him all year with a smile on the lips as he will stay in our hearts forever we have accepted life will never be the same without him.”

    Kapoor’s daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahni also remembered her late father, saying: “If only I could hear you call me mushk once more.”

    Rishi Kapoor passed away on April 30, 2020 in Mumbai after a two year long battle with cancer.

    Adnan Siddiqui also remembered Kapoor, saying: “The man who remained young at heart till his last moments, who loved life, the most swashbuckling romantic hero Bollywood ever had. #RishiKapoor sahib you may be gone but you live in our hearts forever.”

    Meanwhile, our Pakistani celebrities who got a chance to meet with the actor shared pictures of themselves with the romantic hero and remembered him.

    Humayun Saeed threw it back to the time they met Kapoor to cast him in Jawani Phir Nahi Aani 2.

    “He was the best of the best,” wrote Humayun.

    Mawra Hocane shared a picture of when she met him in New York.

    “You shall continue to be the legend that you are. I’ll always remember you fondly,” said the actor.

    Zeba Bakhtiar recalled the time she shot the film Henna with the actor and wrote, “You were a superstar for us. RIP dear Rishi…my Chander Prakash. You are and forever will be in our hearts!”
