Celebs express love for moms on Mother’s Day

As Mother’s Day comes to pass, celebrities are using social media to show love for their moms, including actors, models, and musicians.
One common theme in their posts is talking about family love. Veteran actress Nadia Jamil wrote a heartfelt letter to her mom along with a montage of pictures, set to a Bollywood song.

In her post, she talked about how strong and brave her mom is. “Happy Mother’s Day to my rock, where my strength began from, where my life began from,” she joyously expressed. “My friend, confidant, the most generous, forgiving, loving woman I know, one of the most, beyond beautiful women to have lived on this planet.”
She continued, “I love you Ma. Here’s to healing and learning and unlearning and to the adventure of life still left for us to enjoy together. With Aba, Baba Zain, Nana, Nani, Puchi Khala, all watching us. Please say a prayer for the health and happiness of my best friend… my Ma.”

Meanwhile, music icon Faisal Kapadia shared a sweet post on Instagram to celebrate Mother’s Day. One picture shows him as a child in his mother’s arms, while another shows his wife Seema with their two sons, Armaan and Gibran. In the caption, Faisal wrote, “Happy Mother’s Day!”

Singer Zoe Viccaji celebrated Mother’s Day by posting a cute picture with her daughter. They both had matching butterfly-themed face paints and smiled at the camera. Zoe wrote, “Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there,” in a short note.

Joining the Mother’s Day celebration trend, Shaniera Akram shared a loving picture representing maternal love through the generations. She posted photos with her husband, former cricketer Waseem Akram, and their three children, two of them from the cricketer’s marriage to his late wife. Shaniera happily wrote, “My children are what makes my life full. I am blessed to have these three.”

She also said, “Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, stepmoms, grandmas, new moms, mothers-in-law, and those who we keep in our hearts.” Moms are always there for us, giving hugs when we’re tired or saying comforting words when things get tough. They show endless love and care. So, while Mother’s Day is a special time to say thanks, let’s remember to appreciate and honor moms every day for everything they do for us.

Khan shared a new photo on his Instagram on Thursday evening, shirtless, showing off his well-defined abs.

  • Karan Johar slammed for excluding Fawad Khan in ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ tribute

On Friday, Bollywood’s ace producer and director Karan Johar shared pictures from the time he was filming Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016. The pictures showed Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Aishwarya Rai having fun on set.

Karan captioned the post with a heartwarming note and wrote, “‘The experience of filming ADHM was one of my best on-set experiences.’” He continued to praise the three actors for their talent and commitment to their roles, writing, “‘Anushka and Ranbir were such a treat to direct… I always wanted to direct Aishwarya and she gave Saba so much dignity, poise, and beauty.’”

In the same message, Karan talked about how he learned about “the Ranbir process” and came to really respect it. “I got to know and love him as a person and appreciate his detachment from stardom or movie star trappings,” he wrote.
Right after the Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani director posted the pictures, fans noticed that Fawad Khan’s name wasn’t there in the message, despite him playing a huge role in the movie. They shared their disappointment in the comments.

An Instagram user commented, “The caption is so beautiful, but not a single line for Fawad? Why, Karan?” Another user wrote, “How smoothly you skipped mentioning Fawad Khan… Surely it wouldn’t have been that damaging? Disappointed here in Lahore.”
This is not the first time Karan has been controversial when it comes to his professional relationship with Fawad. In 2017, during a session with two-time Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the Student of the Year director subtly hinted that he would not be open to working with Fawad (and presumably other Pakistani artists) in the future.

“It was a tough time for me. I don’t think I would want to repeat that experience ever,” said Karan when Sharmeen said she hoped to see Fawad directed by him again. Karan continued to say that he wishes Fawad would find the best platform to showcase his talents. “I have great regard for Fawad’s talent. So just like you [Sharmeen], I hope and wish he finds the best platforms because he is a prolific actor.”

In 2018 on Koffee with Karan, in a game of rapid fire between Sonam Kapoor and her siblings, the former was asked who she pairs well with on screen. When her brother, Harshvardhan, suggested Fawad, Sonam quickly jibed back with, “But Karan sent him back!”
The statement was met with a look of horror from Karan. He then avoided commenting on the matter and asked Sonam for another name, to which she replied, Salman Khan.

Pakistani actors have been unofficially barred from acting in Bollywood films since the hard-liner BJP-led government of Narendra Modi took the government.

Natasha Ali, actor and contestant on ‘Tamasha 2’, expressed her desire to have fast bowling sensation Haris Rauf as the main actor and Babar Azam in the role of her brother in a movie.

During a talk show on ‘Show Time’ she was joined by veteran actor Babar Ali. Natasha chose the two cricketers from Pakistan’s national cricket team for her dream cast in a film. “I would like to cast Haris Rauf as my hero, whereas, for his brother, I would choose Babar Azam,” she remarked, leaving the live audience in splits.

Natasha then said, “I think Muhammad Rizwan would be a good villain. Maybe it’s his face, or maybe just how he looks in pictures. But remember, villains don’t always have to look mean. There are handsome villains too!”

“Honestly, I don’t know a lot about him, but I think Iftikhar Ahmed would be good for the father’s role,” Natasha said. “And Shaheen Afridi could play the funny character in the film,” she added.

Greta Thunberg shows up at protest to denounce Israel’s participation in Eurovision

Continuing with her support for the Palestinian cause, climate activist Greta Thunberg joined thousands of demonstrators marching through the streets of Malmo in Sweden, on Thursday, spamming Israel’s participation in Eurovision.

This year’s Eurovision song contest began on Tuesday, in the southern Swedish city of Malmo. The grand finale is scheduled for Saturday, but the war in Gaza is ‘looming’ over the festivities.

“I am a Eurovision fan and it breaks my heart but I’m boycotting. I can’t have fun knowing that Israel is there participating when all those kids are dying. I think it’s just wrong” 30-year-old protester Hilda (who did not want to provide her surname), told members of the press. Israel’s military offensive has killed at least 34,904 people in Gaza, mostly women and children.

In 2022, Russia’s state broadcaster was excluded from the European Broadcasting Union (which oversees Eurovision), in the wake of the war in Ukraine. “I feel like if they can remove Russia why can they not do it to Israel?” 29-year-old, Margo Mustafa said in an exchange with reporters’.
“The people are here for Eurovision trying to celebrate. There’s nothing to celebrate. It’s an ongoing war” she added.

An excess of 5,000 people gathered on Thursday afternoon, in Malmo’s main square, according to an estimate. Signs in the crowd read: “Liberate Palestine”, “EUR legitimises genocide” and “colonialism cannot be washed in pink.”

Israel’s entrant, “Hurricane” by singer Eden Golan, is set to compete in Thursday’s semi-final. It has already been partially re-written and given a new title, after Eurovision organisers deemed the original version to be ‘too political’.

Protester Cecilia Brudell, told the press “At six and nine, my children are now at an age where they want to watch Eurovision but this year we are completely boycotting it”.

Since the new year, numerous petitions have demanded Israel’s exclusion from the 68th edition of the annual music competition. At the end of March, contestants from nine countries, including Swiss favourite Nemo, called for a ‘lasting ceasefire’.
