‘Chin up King’: Celebs rally behind cricket team after Pakistan loses to Sri Lanka

In a exhilarating match on Thursday, the Pakistani cricket team were officially out of Asia Cup 2023 after losing to Sri Lanka by two wickets, paving the way for the island nation to face off against India in Colombo. Although many expressed their disappointment at the lack of performance, including former captain Shahid Afridi, many were still proud of the effort the boys in green displayed. Since yesterday, prominent celebrities like Shahista Lodhi and Mawra Hocane sent uplifting messages to the cricket team, especially to captain Babar Azam for his efforts to make it this far.

The aesthetic surgeon and actress took to Instagram to express her pride at the way Babar Azam kept fighting till the end.

“Dear skipper Babar Azam, proud of the way you fought. I will never stop supporting you no matter what. Chin up King don’t let your crown fall.”

Hocane sisters Mawra and Urwa rallied behind the boys in green, commending them for their hard work and prayed that more achievements will arrive soon.

Singer Falak Shabir shared a screenshot of Zaman Khan and wrote:

“Headsup Zaman Khan you tried his best, we are proud of you. Sri Lanka well played. Pakistan hum tumharay saath hain next time In Sha Allah.”

T20 World Cup: Did PM Shehbaz predict Pakistan reaching the semi-final?

Pakistan on Sunday defeated Bangladesh and made its way to the semi finals of the T20 World Cup , booking a spot in the last four after all odds seemed against the team.

Shaheen Shah Afridi took 4-22 as Bangladesh posted 8-127, setting up an easy chase with Pakistan scoring 5-128 to win Sunday’s Adelaide Oval encounter with 11 balls to spare.

Pakistan joined India, New Zealand and England as semi-finalists.

Soon after Pakistan’s victory, the official twitter handle of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), while sharing a tweet of Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif wrote, “Told you, did not he?”.

“We may not have the real Mr Bean, but we have real cricketing spirit .. and we Pakistanis have a funny habit of bouncing back :),” PM had written in his tweet, addressed to the President of Zimbabwe.
“Mr President: Congratulations. Your team played really well today,” it added.

The PM yesterday congratulated both Pakistan and the Netherlands.

‘Lies’: Afridi responds to allegations of forcing Danish Kaneria to convert to Islam

Shahid Afridi has responded to the allegations of forcing former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria to convert to Islam. Talking exclusively to The Current, Shahid Afridi said he does not want to dignify such baseless allegations by responding to a man who has tarnished Pakistan’s name in the cricketing world. Kaneria was banned for life for spot-fixing after being found guilty of corruption.

“You can imagine what sort of a man is Kaneria. He has brought disrepute to Pakistan, our cricket team, his family and colleagues,” said Afridi.

Afridi added that he was quite young at the time mentioned by Kaneria and wasn’t too religious himself back then. “He is an attention-seeker. That’s the reason for his lies.”

Danish had accused Shahid Afridi of attempting to force him to convert to Islam. Kaneria said that Shahid Afridi “bullied” him and that the two were never friends during his tenure.

In an interview with an Indian TV channel, Kaneria accused Afridi of having a terrible attitude towards him, which hampered his chances of playing more international cricket. He went on to say that when Younis Khan was named captain of his departmental side, he finally got a chance to play regular first-class cricket. Kaneria said that he was fortunate that the rest of the squad was supportive of him and that no one else had a negative attitude towards him.

  • Well done, Boys in Green!

    Well done, Boys in Green!

Today, the final of the T20 World Cup is being played between Australia and New Zealand. We wish that instead of Australia, Pakistan would have been facing NZ in the final but we lost a close contest to Australia in the semi-final on Thursday. It was extremely disappointing and truly heartbreaking but if truth be told, Pakistan’s overall performance in the tournament made us proud.

Pakistan cricket team was the only unbeaten team in the group matches. Nobody could have predicted this performance. Every match had a different Player of the Match, which means the Pakistan team did not just rely on one or two players but performed well as a team. Look at how well Rizwan played against Australia despite being admitted in the hospital prior to the semi-final. This is called team spirit. And we broke one jinx — beating India in a World Cup. We still have to break this other jinx of beating Australia in a knockoff game. Breaking two jinxes in one World Cup was perhaps a lot. But break we will!

We made some mistakes in the semi-final. We should have made a few more runs and bowled better. Our fielding could have been better too. But everyone learns from their mistakes and this young team will learn too. But let’s not forget that arguably, Australia has probably one of the best sporting cultures in the world and also world-class facilities. In a recent transmission, Wasim Akram revealed that our gymming facilities are decades old and hardly any new machines have been added to the gym at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Training equipment should be the latest and world-class but unfortunately, we don’t have such facilities here. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) must pay attention to these issues as well.

Babar Azam is a brilliant captain and the unity in the team and their faith in the captain is something that is very good to see in Pakistan cricket, where mostly we have seen a lot of politics behind the scenes against the sitting captain in the past. This team is different. This team stands behind its players. Hassan Ali was not thrown under the bus. The response by Pakistan Twitter in his support is also something these boys will remember. They made us happy in uncertain times. They gave us hope when things looked gloomy.

We love you, Team Pakistan. There are plenty more World Cups to come and we will win for sure!

‘We have seen tons of support’: Hassan Ali’s wife clarifies that her family is not receiving any threats

Hassan Ali’s wife Samiya Arzoo has clarified that the Twitter account with her name, which requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to take action against those issuing threats to her family, is in fact fake. She also added that her family is not facing any threats.

“So many tweets circulating from this fake account that I, Hassan and my daughter are getting threats from the people of Pakistan, which is absolutely wrong. Instead we have seen tons of support,” she wrote while sharing the screenshot of the fake account.

“Please don’t believe any such statements and don’t follow any such accounts on Twitter pretending to be me,” she added.

“I am not on Twitter. Please report the accounts claiming to be me.” The fake twitter account has been suspend now.

Indian media is on a propaganda spree that the pacer is receiving abuse from social media users in Pakistan after his performance in the semi-final against Australia. In reality, Pakistani social media users came forward to back Hassan Ali.
