    ‘Because of you, a little orphan girl dared to dream’: Edhi orphan girl pens emotional tribute for Bilquis Edhi

    Rabia Bibi Osman shared an inspirational and successful journey that has an impactful contribution of philanthropist, Bilquis Edhi. She wrote her full story on a professional platform, Linkedin after the demise of Bilquis Edhi.

    “Twenty-eight years ago I was abandoned in a baby carriage at the Edhi Orphanage located in Karachi, Pakistan. You found me, you named me after your mother Rabia Bano, you forged my identity, then you gave me a home. Because of you today…I am a somebody, I have an identity, and I have loving parents to call my own,” Rabia wrote.

    She also admired the activism of late Bilquis for women’s rights and empowerment. She dedicated her success journey to the late philanthropist. She had given an opportunity to Rabia to lead an independent life and aspiration to become a successful woman.

    She continued, “Because of you, a little Pakistani girl orphaned at birth dared to dream. Because of you, I am an independent woman with graduate-level education and a place in the world to call my own. You gave me an opportunity. You awarded me a chance to dream, and you presented me with freedom.”

    She studied in college on scholarships and got a chance to get an internship in New York State Assembly, Bronx District Attorney’s Office, U.S Congress, and U.S Senate. She pursued her Master’s degree in Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Law.

    She closed the post with an emotional note, “I want you to know who she was to me, and to all of Pakistan. Bilquis Edhi was a hero, she was a mother to so many orphans (like me) and a powerhouse for humanity.   Losing Bare Abbu (Abdul Sattar Edhi) was tough, but your loss has made me feel orphaned again today…   My name is Rabia Bibi Osman, and I will forever be a proud Edhi baby.”

    ‘Consider humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people’: PM Khan tells Bill Gates

    In a telephonic conversation on Tuesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged Microsoft co-founder and billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates to consider providing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, stated Radio Pakistan.

    The two leaders shared their concerns regarding the health system in Afghanistan — the only other country in the world that is polio-endemic along with Pakistan, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

    Gates also praised Pakistan’s efforts to eradicate polio and at the same time, pledged his continued support against the disease so that no child in Pakistan is paralysed due to it in the future.

    PM Imran Khan also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to end polio in Pakistan.

    PM Khan had previously talked to Bill Gates in June, where the prior encouraged Microsoft to expand its footprint in Pakistan and set up a Microsoft incubation lab in the country.

  • Khan Academy receives $5 million from Elon Musk

    Tesla CEO Elon Musk has donated $5 million to online learning organisation Khan Academy.

    In a YouTube video posted Monday, Khan Academy founder Salman Khan thanked Musk for the donation, which the Tesla CEO made through his Musk Foundation.

    “Elon, I hope you really feel good about this,” said Khan in the video. “This is going to allow us to accelerate all sorts of content. Our aspirations are all subjects — from kids to the early stages of college. This will accelerate our science content, allow us to do more early learning, allow us to make the software and the practice that much more engaging.”

    Founded in 2002, the Musk Foundation supports research in renewable energy, human space exploration, pediatrics and science and engineering.

    Khan Academy is a nonprofit that aims to “provide free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere.” Students worldwide can utilize Khan Academy videos, which are translated into more than 36 languages, and learn at their own pace. The resources — videos, practice exercises, and personalized learning dashboards — are also used by parents and teachers.

    As the coronavirus pandemic forced schools to turn to distance learning, many students and parents who struggled with the transition turned to Khan Academy for help, the organisation says.

    While many students may not recognise Khan by his face, millions of them know him by his voice, because of his video tutorials on subjects ranging from photosynthesis and calculus to the American Revolution.

    Khan Academy has over 120 million registered users, with up to 30 million students using the platform every month.

    “I view this type of investment in what we’re doing as really foundational for us to be able to build a multi-generational institution so that future Elon Musks of the world are also able to tap into their potential and help all of us up-level who we are as a civilization,” said Khan.

    In a recent post, Akram once again expressed her love for the city praising the resilience and diversity of Karachi, comparing it to an eagle that looks into the eye without a fright and remains devoted to where it belongs.

    Posing in front of a wall painting of wings, Akram said: “Karachi is a personification of these damaged wings in which we believe and have the faith that it can fly high and conquer all its fears.”

    “The city of lights, the city of diversity and the city of hearts held so tightly by its people, more than a city it’s home to all who pass through or plant their feet,” she added.

    Fashion journalist Haiya Bokhari on Twitter had proposed to Roy saying: “Can someone convince Shehzad Roy to marry me? I promise I’ll never dip into his skincare items?”

    In response, the singer wrote: “Will try to convince him.”

    Roy is married to Salma Alam. The couple tied the knot in 2009 and have a son, Sikander.
