T-Series is once again at the centre of controversy with another artist calling out the music house and Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam for plagiarising a Pakistani song.

Omer Nadeem took to his Instagram account to call out Sonu for stealing his 2009 track ‘Aye Khuda’. He shared two videos in a post, one of Sonu’s recent track and the other one of his track.

“I’ve reached a point in my life where I couldn’t care less about these things,” wrote the singer. “But hey, if you’re going to do it, at least toss a little credit to the OG track. If you’re gonna pull this off, could’ve at least done it with some finesse. Huge fan of Sonu Nigam, but let’s be real, this is light years away from the real deal.”

Fans are criticising T-Series for once again ripping off Pakistani artists. Actress Armeena Khan was among them as she called out the Bollywood singer for stealing tunes.

This is not the first time T-Series has been accused of plagiarism. Previously, singer Farasat Anees called T-Series a “disgrace” for copying his popular track ‘Biba’. The singer shared clips from both songs on his Instagram account and expressed his thanks to Indian fans who supported him.

Small business Amaltas Studio accuses Khaadi of plagiarism

A small business by the name of Amaltas Studio took to their Instagram account to accuse Pakistani fashion giant Khaadi of plagiarising their artwork. The page posted photos of the two mirrors side by side to point out the similarities, writing in the caption:

“Appalled to share Khaadi Home’s shameless act of plagiarism our unique mirrors! We were informed by one of our clients that our whimsical mirrors, which we submitted for the Kreate Your Mark project, were imitated instead of appreciated. Shame on them for disregarding originality and betraying the spirit of supporting women entrepreneurs.”

In the comments section, a user claimed the designs by Khaadi were inspired, rather than plagiarised, to which Amaltas Studio responded:

“Hi, this is not inspired, this is blatantly plagiarism. These copied our product, technique and aesthetic.

Please note that, we specialise in exclusively making these printed whimsical mirrors, whereas Khaadi is a giant corporation. Inviting small business to apply to their programs to support women entrepreneurs and stealing their ideas is not a good look. Thank you.”

This is not the first time a fashion brand has been accused of plagiarism by a small business. Hussain Rehar was accused of copying designs of small business Kook Studio without giving them credit. Rehar responded in a lengthy statement, explaining the designs for his collection ‘Jugnu’ took inspiration from traditional African embroidery designs.

“Jugnu, a project in the making for over a year, derives its inspirations from traditional African embroidery designs. While there may be similarities in using the same monochrome palette, these elements are commonly found in various art forms across cultures. In an effort to maintain transparency, we are sharing all relevant images and references.”

It seems as though Bollywood’s tendency to plagiarize Pakistani music hasn’t ended. This time, it was singer Sajjad Ali who called out Bollywood for plagiarizing his song ‘Ab Ke Hum Bicharay’.
Yesterday, the singer uploaded a video on Instagram, where he says he was listening to songs from an upcoming movie and realized that the melody resembled a song he had written years ago. He did not name drop the Bollywood song directly, but left it for his followers to interpret.

After close observation, many fans were quick to point out that the melody of Sajad Ali’s song was similar to the Bollywood song ‘Besharam Rang’.

This is not the first time Bollywood has been called out for stealing music from Pakistani artists. Politician and singer Abrar-ul-Haq had announced that he was suing T-series for copying his iconic song Nach Punjaban in the film Jugjug Jeeyo, that too without giving him any credit.

Students claimed that the decision of expulsion was made because he was providing free tuition to other students.

Another user strongly criticised the disciplinary action against the student from the university by saying, “It’s usually the students coming from non-elite/financial aid backgrounds who are on the receiving end of insanely disproportionate punishments. The consequences have been fatal in the past.“

The Current confirmed with sources that the student was expelled on the basis of cheating and plagiarism which are serious offence under the University regulations while refuting the free tuition claims.

In reaction, students questioned the justification of the extreme punishment and legitimacy of the findings. Many students demanded that the decision be reversed by the university’s administration.

Commenting under an Instagram post which compared the two outfits, the mother-daughter duo called out the designer for blatantly copying their designs and passing them as his own. Their comments come just after Shakeel successfully showcased his bridal collection at the ongoing Hum Bridal Couture Week 2021.

According to Maliha, this is not the first time Haris has copied their designs.

“If you are a designer then why not come up with your own designs instead of copying Farah,” said Maliha. “Don’t you feel any embarrassment when you order online from Farah Talib Aziz and then keep those dresses as your own samples to take orders on from your shop?”

“What is the point of copying our designs from two years ago?” she said further, adding: “This must be the tenth time you have been caught making blatant copies of Farah Talib Aziz.”

“Do you not feel ashamed of yourself?,” she questioned.

Similarly, Farah also asked Haris stop “constantly copying” her designs.

Meanwhile, Haris is yet to comment on the matter. The designer showcased his collection Ishq on the first day of the Bridal Couture Week with Saboor Aly as his showstopper.

  • ‘Sadak 2’ makers accused of stealing Pakistani singer’s song

‘Sadak 2’ makers accused of stealing Pakistani singer’s song

Things do not appear to be going well for Sadak 2. After becoming the most disliked trailer on YouTube with more than 8 million dislikes, the makers of the film have come under fire for stealing a Pakistani song and not giving the artist his due credit.

The matter came to light when Pakistani artist Shezan Saleem a.k.a JO-G, who is also the son of veteran musician and singer Saleem Javaid, uploaded a video in which he compares a song of the film Ishq Kamaal with a composition of his Rabba Ho released in 2011.

“A trailer for a Bollywood movie called Sadak 2 has just been released, and there is a song in it called Ishq Kamaal,” says Saleem in the video. “After listening to it, I realised that it sounds like a composition I had produced for a friend around 11 years ago. The friend’s name is Zaid Khan. I think they’ve copied it because not only the melody but the music is also very similar.”

Saleem then played both the songs and asked his followers to share their opinion on the matter. He later added that he will not stay quiet on the matter.

Social media users hit out at the makers of the film, and the Bhatts in particular, for stealing the song.

However, Saleem defended Mahesh and called him a “fine man”. He lamented that the music producers should be asked about this plagiarism.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, Pooja Bhatt, who is one of the leads in the film, had previously said that Sadak 2 will introduce fresh music talent.

She had credited the song to a ‘music teacher from Chandigarh’, who had come to their office with “no prior appointment, a dream, a harmonium and a brilliant song called Ishq Kamaal.

Meanwhile, the composer of the song Suniljeet has denied the accusations and said that the song is his original composition.

Ishq Kamaal is my original composition and doesn’t share a resemblance to any other song,” said Suniljeet. “Everybody involved in making this song including singer Javed Ali has added his magic to the music. This is my debut as a music director and all I hope for is that people like the song when it comes out. Shalu Vaish and I have worked with all our heart to live up to the expectation of Sadak 2 music.”

However, Saleem did not buy his arguments.

Sadak 2 is a sequel of Mahesh Bhatt’s 1991 film Sadak and marks his return to direction after almost two decades. It was scheduled to release in theatres this summer, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it will release digitally on Disney+ Hotstar on August 28.
