    Nawaz Sharif hopeful about meeting Narendra Modi soon

    Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday expressed his desire to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the near future to advocate for better relations with the neighbouring country.

    During an interview with an Indian journalist, Barkha Dutt, ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Islamabad, Sharif said, “It would have been a great thing if PM [Narendra] Modi had also attended the SCO summit. I do hope that he and us will have an opportunity to sit together in the not-so-distant future.”

    Pak-India relations have gone through upheavals over the last few decades but the 2019 Indian decision to revoke the ‘special status’ of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir downgraded diplomatic relations between the two countries.

    Since then, Pakistan has made it a condition to reverse the decision before any talks of normalisation of relations between the two countries.

    Elon Musk, the controversial CEO of Tesla and social networking site X (formerly known as Twitter), recently congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the most followed world leader.

    Modi has 100.2 million followers on X, which are far less than Musk himself, who has 190.2 million.

    While Modi’s followers along with Indian Media celebrated the tweet as an honour, many netizens reminded Musk of Barack Obama, former American President, who is far ahead of Modi with his 131.7 million followers on X.

    National President of Indian Youth Congress, Srinivas tagged Elon Musk and wrote, “Is Barack Obama from another planet?”

    Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on taking oath as the 24th prime minister of Pakistan.

    “Congratulations to @CMShehbaz on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan,” read a short statement on the Indian prime minister’s official X handle.

    On Monday, President Dr Arif Alvi administered the oath to Shehbaz Sharif after he was elected as the 24th prime minister of Pakistan on Sunday by receiving 201 votes in the National Assembly (NA).

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif will serve the country as the Premier for the second time, after remaining the PM of Pakistan from April 2022 to August 2023.

    Various world leaders and diplomats, including Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iran’s Ebrahim Raisi, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Cameron, US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome, and others have also congratulated Shehbaz on taking the helm as the country’s chief executive.

    The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk will not be joining the Twitter board of directors, according to Twitter’s CEO Parag Agrawal. Musk’s appointment on the board was supposed to start on April 9, however, he announced that he would no longer be joining.

    Agrawal posted a statement on April 10, saying Musk’s appointment to the board would be subject to a background investigation and that once nominated, he would have to operate in the company’s best interests. “Elon is our biggest shareholder and we will remain open to his input,” he added.

    What Happened Earlier?

    Earlier, the tech mogul tweeted the list of the top ten most followed personalities, which included celebrities and politicians such as former US President Barack Obama, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, and Lady Gaga.

    The world’s wealthiest man had a complaint: many of the top Twitter accounts do not upload anything.

    Former US President Barack Obama (131.4 million followers), singer Justin Bieber (114.3 million), Katy Perry (108.8 million), and other top accounts belonging to popular artists Rihanna and Taylor Swift were among the names on the list from the Twitter account of World of Statistics, which Musk posted.

    Interestingly, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is ranked ninth on the list, with a popularity of 77.1 million followers, one notch below Musk, who has 81 million followers on the social network.

    Whereas Modi is an avid Twitter user who publishes everything from his daily schedule to welcoming foreign leaders, Musk laments that celebrities like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber rarely post. Taylor hasn’t posted anything in three months, and the ‘yummy’ singer Justin Bieber only tweeted once in 2022.

    Musk, who just purchased a 9.2 per cent interest in Twitter for roughly $3 billion in his controversial style, asked his followers another question: Is Twitter dying? 

    In an ‘April fool’ message, Twitter said that it is testing some new features, one of which is a long-awaited ‘edit’ button. The platform later explained that the change to the edit button was not an April Fool’s prank and that it was truly being tested by the company.

    It is worth noting that Musk also proposed a number of improvements to Twitter’s Blue premium subscription service, including lowering the price, limiting adverts, and allowing users to pay in the crypto. Many internet users were surprised by the recent announcement, as they had been expecting Tesla’s CEO to join the board of microblogging site and witness what changes he would make.

    Patil was speaking to a large gathering in Kolhapur city for the upcoming Assembly by-poll elections.

    He also claimed that PM Modi is working for every single minute for the country and currently he is experimenting to prevent sleeping so that he could stay awake for 24 hours and dedicate his life to his country.

    He also continued that Indian PM Modi is well aware of every situation in every political party in India and he is working efficiently.

    Kapil writes, “Dear friends, was reading all the news in media about me n Akshay paji, I have jus spoke to paji n sorted all this, it was jus a miss communication, all is well n very soon we r meeting to shoot Bachchan Pandey episode. He is my big bro n can never be annoyed with me thank you.” Till now Akshay has not responded to it. The row started when the actor came to promote Atrangi Re.

    During the episode, the Bollywood star had requested that the section around his interview with Indian Prime Minister Modi should be dropped from the show. 

    While the question was not aired, it later leaked and went viral. This made Akshay angry and he had refused to be on Kapil’s show to promote his film, Bachchan Pandey.

    Apart from Akshay, it also stars Kriti Sanon and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles. The film is scheduled to be released theatrically on 18 March 2022. It is a remake of the 2014 Tamil film Jigarthanda and it starred Varun Tej and Pooja Hegde.

  • Pakistan declines United States invitation to Democracy Summit

    Pakistan has turned down an invitation by the United States (US) to the summit for democracy which was going to be held virtually from December 9-December 10.

    The Pakistan Foreign Office thanked the United States for the invitation to participate in the Democracy Summit. According to the statement issued by the Spokesperson. Pakistan said that they would engage with the country on a wide range of issues “at an opportune time in the future.”

    The statement further added that Pakistan is committed to promoting democracy, eradicating corruption, and safeguarding the human rights of all our citizens.

    “We value our partnership with the U.S. which we wish to expand both bilaterally as well as in terms of regional and international cooperation. We remain in contact with the U.S. on a range of issues and believe that we can engage on this subject at an opportune time in the future,” he added.

    The statement concluded, “Pakistan will, meanwhile, continue to support all efforts aimed towards strengthening dialogue, constructive engagement, and international cooperation for the advancement of our shared goals.”

    According to the official website of the State Department, President Biden will be hosting the virtual meetings on December 9-December 10. He will discuss issues regarding democracy with leaders from government, civil society, and the private sector.

    The statement stated, “The summit will focus on challenges and opportunities facing democracies and will provide a platform for leaders to announce both individual and collective commitments, reforms, and initiatives to defend democracy, and human rights at home and abroad.”

    The summit will be based on key important points which include defending against authoritarianism, addressing and fighting corruption, and promoting respect for human rights.

    In this summit, leaders will be persuaded to share their policies and plan of action for reforms and initiatives to curb the issues that meet the goals of the summit.

    Pakistan is being criticised by some for not attending the summit, with people saying that Pakistan has refused to attend because President Biden has not called PM Khan since he came to power.

    Afghanistan has not been invited to the summit and India’s PM Modi will be attending and speaking about commitment to democracy
