  • ‘Special relief’ to Nawaz Sharif; PPP expresses concerns

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has lifted up concerns about speculation that former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif will get “special relief” on his return to Pakistan on October 21.

PPP’s Secretary General, Syed Nayyer Husain Bukhari, said in his statement on Monday that the PML-N supremo had been legally convicted by courts, stressing that Nawaz Sharif will have to face the law after his return to the country.

“It is surprising [for PML-N] to hope that the judiciary will set a precedent of special relief for Nawaz Sharif,” he added.

The PPP leader also said that the election is necessary for the prolongation of the parliamentary system in the country, demanding that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announce a polling date as soon as possible.

“The PPP demands a level playing field for all,” he maintained.

  • “The red carpet for his return is not being rolled out by the PML-N but by someone else,” Shah added

“The red carpet for his return is not being rolled out by the PML-N but by someone else,” Shah added

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Kursheed Shah criticised former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) head Nawaz Sharif, alleging that he had engaged in negotiations with powerful quarters to come back to power.

“If Nawaz Sharif comes to power by dealing with powerful circles at this age, then what would be left of his politics,” he asked rhetorically.

“The red carpet for his return is not being rolled out by the PML-N but by someone else,” Shah added.

Observing that despite facing a lot of problems, PML-N is still doing “backdoor politics”, Khursheed Shah stated that he told the PML-N chief that he was committing a mistake by climbing on “someone else’s shoulder” to come into power.

The former leader of the opposition also questioned how a convict and fugitive could address a public gathering in Lahore.

“This is a dangerous trap in which the PML-N is trapped. What was the difference between Pakistan Tehran-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman [Imran Khan] and Nawaz Sharif?”

Shah asserted that Nawaz Sharif is being taken into power, just as PTI chief Imran Khan was given power in 2018.

Lahore administration has said in its statement that PML-N had been told about the terms and conditions to hold the public meeting at Minar-e-Pakistan, while the former ruling party was also directed to ask for permission from the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA).

The PML-N submitted a sworn statement to the Lahore administration to assure them that the party will pay in case of any damage to the park during the public gathering.

The district administration has also emphasised its commitment to maintaining constant communication with relevant authorities regarding security, traffic management, and event organizers. Court restricts political parties from holding rallies at Liberty roundabout

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to submit a new request for organizing a rally at a different site, rather than Liberty Chowk, the originally proposed location by PTI.
The court’s verdict came in response to PTI’s appeal seeking authorization to hold a rally at Liberty Chowk. Nevertheless, the Lahore High Court has denied permission for the rally to take place at the Liberty roundabout.

Justice Raheel Kamran stated that if the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) fails to obtain approval for an alternative rally venue, no political party will be allowed to hold a rally.
He granted PTI a 72-hour period to secure permission for the new location.
The decision to decline permission for the rally at Liberty Chowk is rooted in security apprehensions, considering the events that transpired on May 9.

  • Same people who conspired against Nawaz Sharif brought the protesters to Faizabad, says Khawaja Asif

Same people who conspired against Nawaz Sharif brought the protesters to Faizabad, says Khawaja Asif

As the Supreme Court began to consider review petitions related to the Faizabad sit-in verdict, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former defence minister Khawaja Asif claimed on Thursday that the protesters of the sit-in were brought to Islamabad by the “same people” who were involved in a plot against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“If there was any flaw in the decision of the Faizabad sit-in case, all these things would not have happened. The Faizabad sit-in case decision should be implemented,” the PML-N stalwart said during Geo News show Capital Talk.

Government officials distributed money in a video, and that is “proof” of who was responsible for bringing the protesters to Faizabad, he added.

The PML-N leader also said that “the purpose of the sit-in was to somehow block the return of Nawaz Sharif”.

The former defence minister stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was handed a victory in 2018 while Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were in jail.

‘Imran more popular than rivals’: Miftah Ismail cites survey

According to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Miftah Ismail, the chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, is more popular than his political rivals, The News has reported.

The PML-N leader also disclosed that he conducted a survey in July to get public opinion, and according to that survey, Imran Khan is more popular than his political rivals.

Miftah Ismail also said that PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former member of the Senate Mustafa Nawaz Khokar agreed that there is space for a new political party in the country. “The question now is whether they have the capacity to attract people to join a new political party or not,” he added.

However, the PML-N leader told The News that no decision has been taken about the launch of a new political party, stating that they are seriously thinking about the matter.

Miftah Ismail also criticised the policies of former finance minister Ishaq Dar, alleging that his criticism of Dar’s policies alienated him from the Sharifs.

Earlier, PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that there is a space for a new political party in Pakistan.

According to the sources of The News, Mustafa Nawaz Khokar is more keen to launch a new political party than Abbasi and Miftah. The other two are not completely sure yet whether to go for it or not.
