    Transgender mob vandalises Kharian police station after being tortured

    Triggered by alleged torture and illegal detention, an angry mob of transgender persons vandalised Saddar Police Station in Kharian tehsil of Gujrat district.

    On Sunday, a few transgender persons were on their way home after attending an event late at night when police personnel stopped them and tried to conduct a body search.

    This prompted a fight between the transgender persons and the cops on the road. Meanwhile, paramilitary forces shifted them to the police station and reportedly subjected the transgender persons to torture.

    After being informed about the assault, dozens of transgender persons led by their guru, attacked the police station, threw stones, and vandalised the premises.

    Footage of the incident doing rounds on social media showed angry transgender persons throwing the furniture out of the police station onto the road. The video shows the transgender persons forcefully taking a police official out of the police station.

    Later, the transgender community held a sit-in and blocked the GT Road in Kharian to record their protest.

    Geo confirms that an inquiry has been launched in this regard and disciplinary action will be taken against the cops if found involved in the torture of transgender persons.

    An FIR (First Information Report) has been registered on behalf of actress Meera at the Defence (A) Police Station of Lahore last night.

    According to the complaint, Meera came back from a shopping trip to discover that her house had been robbed. The police report says diamond jewelry worth Rs80 lacs, and a valuable watch, valued at Rs20 lacs were both missing from a trunk when she arrived home.
    Upon asking household staff, Meera found out that a boy named Qasim was missing while his mobile phone was switched off as well.

    The actress has reportedly told the police that the stolen watch was studded with diamonds.

    Police say that raids are being carried out to arrest the suspect.

    A police officer was wounded on Saturday when an unidentified assailant hurled a hand grenade at the Smart Police Station, Civil Lines, in Quetta.

    The injured officer has been identified as Abdul Saboor.

    According to the police, an unidentified motorcyclist carrying a hand grenade attacked the police station located in the White Road area of Quetta.

    The hand grenade resulted in a powerful explosion. As per local authorities the attacker managed to flee the scene.

    Karachi teenage girl allegedly marries her kidnapper

    A teenage girl who had been reported missing from Karachi has allegedly married her kidnapper in Lahore, according to police, Dawn has reported.

    The girl’s family had filed a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 365-B of PPC while the police had conducted raids in Peshawar and Lahore to find her.

    The police have claimed that the girl married the kidnapper with her consent. The family had named Abdullah in the FIR, and according to Korangi-SSP Sajid Amir Sadozai, the girl’s marriage documents are being verified.

    The girl had gone missing on February 13. The case is currently under investigation, and further details are yet to be revealed.

    Lahore man receives e-challan for his motorcycle stolen eight years ago

    A resident of Lahore was fined for a traffic violation involving his motorcycle that had been stolen for atleast eight years.

    The victim, Imran received an e-challan and discovered that his long-stolen bike was being used by police officers in the Sabzazar neighbourhood.

    The individual filed a complaint with the Chief Civilian Personnel Officer (CCPO), requesting that his bike be returned to him from the cops who were using it.

    In other news, the rate of street crimes in the provincial capital appears to have spiralled out of control, considering a report released in March.

    As per police statistics, more than 300 incidences of robbery and theft were reported in the city over the last two days of February, while the month of March began with nearly 350 incidents in the provincial capital.

    People lost millions of rupees in cash, gold jewellery, automobiles, and motorcycles in the first two months of 2022.

    According to data, 209 robberies resulted in loot worth more than Rs10 million, with 59 incidences of motorcycle theft reported at the time.

    E-challans declared illegal by LHC

    E-challan is seen as an effective solution to reduce traffic violations and promote safe transportation, however, the system was recently pronounced “illegal” by the Lahore High Court (LHC).

    On Wednesday, the LHC observed that the electronic challan (e-ticket) system was implemented without sufficient planning and instructed the authorities to address the matter. During the hearing, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh asked the Punjab chief secretary to notify the chief minister of the lapse, who will take prompt action to correct the problem.

    The judge made the remarks after hearing a plea from a transporter, who told the court that he was unaware of roughly 55 e-challans filed against him.

    A video went viral on social media yesterday in which a lady can be seen beating two women in Kasur’s Sadar Police Station. One of the woman in the video was being investigated for a robbery case. The video caused an uproar on social media.

    After the video went viral on social media, the police took the woman named Sajda who beat the other two, into custody and have registered cases against the investigating officer and a woman constable.

    However, in a video message shared by the woman later she said that someone called her from police station and asked her to visit the police station in relevance to her own case. She said that when she reached the police station the officers said they will look into her case only after she beats up the two women they have taken into custody. She said she refused, but she did it after they forced her.

  • Lahore woman sentenced to death for claiming to be prophet

    A woman from Lahore has been sentenced to death by a sessions court after claiming to be a prophet, Wajid Ahmad Sheikh reported for Dawn. She has been charged under section 295C of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The court has also fined the convict with Rs50,000.

    “It is proved beyond reasonable doubt that accused Salma Tanveer wrote and distributed the writings which are derogatory in respect of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and she failed to prove that her case falls in exception provided by section 84 of PPC,” ruled Additional District & Sessions Judge Mansoor Ahmad Qureshi in his 22-page verdict.

    Section 84 deals with crimes committed by those who are mental.

    A case against Salma Tanveer was registered at Nisthar Colony Police Station in 2013.

    The court record shows that the FIR was lodged by the prayer leader (Khateeb) of Jamia Masjid Anwar-e-Madina in Bahadurabad neighbourhood of Lahore. The prayer leader, Qari Iftikhar Ahmad Raza, alleged that Salma Tanveer, principal of a local school, had published and distributed pamphlets in the area “whereby she denied khatam-e-nubuwat of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)”.

    The FIR alleged that the woman had used derogatory remarks and claimed “her own nubuwat”, according to the court record.

    The woman’s counsel, Mian Muhammad Ramzan, had argued that the suspect was of unsound mind at the time of occurrence. He said the magistrate concerned had ordered mental examination of the suspect, which remained pending without any fault on the part of the suspect.

    The defence counsel further argued that the comparison of writing from photocopies was not possible as tampering had been made in the photocopies of the alleged documents.

    A report by the Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH) declared Salma Tanveer fit to stand trial.

    “The question, however, that arises for consideration is whether in law such abnormality can be treated as sufficient to exculpate the accused for the serious crime committed by her, even though it falls short of legal insanity,” held the judge.

    The judge ruled that the law in the country did not recognise such lesser forms of mental abnormality and the plea of diminished responsibility was not available as a defence in a criminal prosecution.

    The farmers in India took a cow as a ‘witness’ during a farmers’ protest in Haryana demanding the release of their two arrested fellow-farmers on Sunday.

    As per reports, the farmers at the protest brought the cow inside the premises of the police station in Tohana claiming that it was the 41st witness of the incident.

    The present government considers itself as a government of cow worshippers, or cow lovers. We have brought the sacred animal as a symbol because it is considered pure and pious and its presence might help put some sense into the government,” one of the protestors said.

    The cow was tied to a small pole inside the police station with water and some grass kept for it. A farmer said that the police officials will be responsible for providing it with food and water.

    Later, the two arrested farmers were released on bail. Vikas Sisar and Ravi Azad, two farmer leaders were arrested for surrounding Haryana MLA Devendra Singh Babli’s home last Wednesday.

    Earlier, these farmers had registered a case against Babli for allegedly abusing them verbally while protesting against the center’s farm laws. Later, the BJP-leader expressed regret for his words. Many farmer groups across Haryana have been opposing the functioning of BJP-JJP leaders.

  • Rawalpindi police station gets a daycare centre

    City Police Officer Muhammad Ahsan Younas has set up a day care centre at Rawalpindi Police Station to facilitate women police officers.

    A police spokesman said that the purpose of the centre is to provide a safe and secure environment to the children of police officers so that they have the peace of mind of knowing their children are safe while they work.

    According to details, the centre will be open from 8 am to 4 pm and will have amenities like kitchen, heaters, air conditioners, geysers, washroom, comfortable bedding, toys, LED television, toys and study material for children.

    In a statement, CPO Muhammad Ahsan Younas said that all steps including setting up daycare centre are being taken under the vision of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Inam Ghani.

     “Welfare of force is our priority, day care centre has been established to provide better working atmosphere and facility for the women police officers and it will make them care-free during their duty hours which ultimately will enhance their working capabilities,” he said.

    A newly-wed girl from Nawabshah reportedly found shelter at a women’s police station in the metropolis’ west zone after her husband abandoned her.

    According to details, the women’s police station staff is searching for the family of the young girl. The girl said she got married to a man named Ahmed six months ago. After a few weeks, her husband kicked her out of the house. She had to come to Karachi as she was left with no other option.

    After being admitted to a shelter home in Karachi’s Central district, the facility’s management found her uncles and sent her to their house. However, her uncles also refused to keep her at their home. Since then, the girl had nowhere to go.

    For now, she has taken refuge at the Liaquatabad women’s police station. According to the girl, her mother had died and her only brother also passed away two-and-a-half years ago and she has no idea where her father is.

    According to Station House Officer (SHO) Liaqatabad Uzma Khan, Karachi police is trying to trace her father by contacting their counterparts in Nawabshah.
