  • IHC rejects Chairman PTI’s request to transfer Tosha Khana case to another court

    The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has on Friday rejected former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s request to transfer the Tosha Khana case to another court.
    On the other hand, the maintainability ruling in the Toshakhana case against Imran Khan issued by the session court was deemed “void” by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

    IHC also said, “The session court should hear the case and decide again”.

    According to the verdict, Additional Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar will hear the case.

    Earlier, the Supreme Court (SC) rejected former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s petition to pause trial court proceedings in the Tosha khana case.
    Last year, on October 21, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case for making “false statements and incorrect declarations.”

    PM Shehbaz has huge announcement for youth

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Digital Youth Hub Portal’ has been launched on Thursday.

    The portal unites all of the initiatives the government has initiated to support the youth’s development.

    At the ceremony, Sharif gave his word that the government will use all of its resources and try everything in its power to empower young people.

    He claimed that through the initiative, easy-to-repay loans are given to high-achieving girls and boys so that they may support themselves. To date, 30 billion rupees in loans have been given to deserving, talented youth.

    The Premier pointed out that the government is also providing laptops to deserving students as part of the scheme, while millions of rupees worth of computers have already been handed to young people so they can pursue higher education.

    The current administration has allotted 80 billion rupees for youth development throughout the course of the current fiscal year.

    Shehbaz Sharif stated that young people can register on the Digital Youth Hub Portal to receive financial aid and benefit from government initiatives aimed at improving their well-being.

    Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs, said that the portal
    will integrate all the steps and programmes launched across the country for youth development.

    Violent extremism bill; Law Minister shifts blame after outrage, says it was drafted by PTI

    Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarrar, has confirmed that the government will not pursue the Violent Extremism Bill, shifting the blame for the legislation on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), The News has reported.

    Seeking to distance his government from the bill, which seeks to ban any organisation which resorts to violence from contesting elections, Tarrar said that the bill was drafted by the PTI government including every full stop and comma.

    However, the current government has decided against introducing the bill,” he said, speaking in Geo News programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath’, adding that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had advised them against drafting such legislation in haste.

    On Sunday, the bill was dropped by Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, who halted further proceedings following opposition by senators. Sanjrani said that the government should reconsider the bill.

    The bill was termed “dangerous for democracy” by senators, including those from the treasury benches.

    ‘War not an option’; PM says he’s willing to talk to India

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said on Tuesday that Pakistan has “nothing against anybody” and he is willing to talk to India for regional development.

    We are prepared to talk with everyone, even with our neighbour, provided that the neighbour is serious to talk serious matters on the table because war is no more an option,” the prime minister said, addressing the inaugural session of the Pakistan Minerals Summit in Islamabad.

    Ties between the two arch-rivals have been suspended since the annexation of Jammu and Kashmir by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in 2019.

    Mentioning the three major wars between the two countries, Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan is a nuclear power but only for its defence.

    “If there is any nuclear flashpoint, who will live to tell what happened? So (war) is not an option,” he said, stressing that India should understand the same.

    Shehbaz Sharif also said that the two countries cannot become “normal neighbours” unless abnormalities are removed and unless our serious issues are understood and addressed through peaceful and meaningful discussions.

    “No matter how the international landscape may change, China will always stand firmly with Pakistan,” President Xi Jinping has said in a statement reiterating China’s steadfast support for Pakistan.
    The statement was given as part of a congratulatory message at the CPEC celebration ceremony held in Islamabad on Monday, where the Chinese Vice-president He Lifeng was also present as part of a three day visit to Pakistan.

    Talking about mutual ties, President Xi also stressed that China and Pakistan will keep enhancing overall planning. China will work with Pakistan to further develop CPEC into an exemplary project of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, he stated.
    “Since its launch in 2013, China and Pakistan have been advancing CPEC under the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, and have achieved a number of early harvests,” he added.

    Earlier today, both the countries signed six agreements to promote mutual cooperation.
    The document establishing the joint cooperation committee of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was signed by China’s Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reforms Commission and Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal.

    ‘Elections either in three months or two years’; Raja Riaz sets alarm bells ringing

    Opposition leader in the National Assembly, Raja Riaz, has set alarm bells ringing with his prediction that if elections are not held within three months, they will be delayed for two years.

    “I can see two scenarios. I have told you about them both,” he told Dawn News in an interview. When prompted if he had been told this by someone, Riaz clarified that it was what he can foresee based on his political experience.

    “There are two positions. One, if you look at democracy and constitution, general elections should take place within 90 days,” he said. However, he added that considering the severe economic challenges the country is facing, “a decision in the nation’s interest should be taken.”

    He also expressed the opinion that a caretaker setup should be given at least one year to fix the economic problems.

    Raja Riaz is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday to give names for his nominees of caretaker Prime Minister.

    Nawaz will face the law after return to the country, Shehbaz confirms

    According to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif, will face the law after his return to Pakistan.

    In an interview on Geo News’ ‘Jirga’, Shehbaz Sharif said that his brother, the former prime minister who has been living in London since 2019, will come back to his homeland in the next few weeks.

    Shahbaz Sharif further said that “Nawaz Sharif will return home and face the courts and he is not like Imran Khan who is not respecting the law while living in this country”

    In a response to a question, PM Shehbaz called the May 9 riots, which were started by the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in a corruption case, a conspiracy against Pakistan.

    The Prime Minister further said, “Those involved in the May 9 incidents wanted to overthrow the military leadership”.

    Shehbaz Sharif also said that the people involved in the May 9 riots as well as the planners of this incident wanted “anarchy” and “civil war”.

    To another question, the prime minister said that his government struggled hard to bring the country back from default risk and restore the lost dignity of Pakistan.

    Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said on Friday that no one proposed the name of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for caretaker Prime Minister.

    “Neither was Ishaq Dar’s name suggested, nor was it rejected. It can be a rumour,” the minister remarked while speaking on Geo News’ programme “Geo Pakistan”.

    Admitting that discussions are currently taking place about the interim setup, Sanaullah said that the caretaker Minister should be a politician or a bureaucrat.

    “In case there’s a consensus that a politician can be appointed, then it can either be Ishaq Dar or any other politician from any party,” he said.
    He offered assurances that the government will appoint a suitable person on the position.

    As yet many names have surfaced in various reports and rumors about who will get the coveted position of caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, including Ishaq Dar, caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi and textile baron Gohar Ijaz.

    Taliban attack PPP leader’s house in Nowshera after asking for Rs1 crore extortion

    According to a report in The News, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Pir Muhammad Aslam’s house was partially damaged after a hand grenade attack on Friday in Nowshera district’s Risalpur.  

    In a report registered at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station, the PPP leader said that he had received a threatening letter from the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on July 1.

    Aslam also told the police that the Taliban was demanding Rs1 Crore from him, mentioning the amount in the letter.

    The complainant had received phone calls from Afghanistan phone numbers to arrange money or face “dire consequences”.

    Pir Aslam also mentioned that he also received phone calls from Pakistani numbers, in which the Taliban threatened to eliminate his whole family if he did not arrange the money.

    This is not happening for the first time. Last year, in October, senior Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Atif Khan also received a letter from the Taliban demanding Rs8 million as extortion.

    Upto 2-years imprisonment, fines for defaming the Army; Senate approves Army Act amendments

    The Army Act Amendment Bill has sailed through the Senate on Thursday after Defence Minister Khwaja Asif presented it in the Upper House. The Senate session was chaired by the Chairman of the Senate, Sadiq Sanjrani.

    According to the bill, the disclosure of official information obtained in national interest will be punished by up to 5 years in jail, while anyone who discloses information against the interests of Pakistan or the Pakistan Army will be dealt with under the Secrets Act or Army Act.

    According to the bill, a person on sensitive duty will not become involved in any political activity. Violation of the rule can be sentenced by up to 2 years of imprisonment.

    Any person involved in electronic crimes whose aim is to defame the Army will be prosecuted under Electronic Crimes. It is further stated in the bill that a person involved in defaming the Army or spreading hatred against it will also be sentenced with to up to 2 years imprisonment and fines.

    While this was happening, Senator Mian Raza Rabbani of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) staged a walkout from the Senate, calling the passage of several bills in one day “blind legislation.”
