    PTI’s Zartaj Gul nominated as parliamentary leader

    Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has nominated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zartaj Gul as a parliamentary leader, Express News reported on Saturday.

     Imran Khan approved the Gul’s name as the parliamentary leader.

    Earlier, the party proposed the names of four leaders, including Zartaj Gul, Sahibzada Mehboob Sultan, Zain Qureshi, and Ahmed Chatha, for the appointment for the National Assembly.

    Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar Khan also confirmed being informed about the nomination of Zartaj Gul as a parliamentary leader.

    SIC’s chief, Hamid Raza, will inform the NA speaker about Gul’s nomination on Monday.

    From Nicola to Hadid sisters, Hollywood celebs donate millions for Palestinians

    In a heartwarming display of solidarity, US supermodel sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid joined Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan in generously donating for families impacted by the Gaza genocide. Bella, Gigi, and Nicola’s combined contributions total $2.2 million, offering crucial support through humanitarian organizations and the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

    The Hadid sisters’ donation will be split equally among Heal Palestine, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, World Central Kitchen, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. These organizations provide food, medical aid, psychological services, and support for displaced families in Gaza.

    Bella and Gigi Hadid, daughters of Palestinian property tycoon Mohamed Anwar Hadid, have always supported the Palestinian cause. Bella recently shared her heartbreak over the “devastating loss of the Palestinian people” in an Instagram post.

    Bella also highlighted her commitment to Palestine by wearing a dress made from keffiyeh, a traditional Palestinian cloth, at the Cannes Film Festival. She called it “a beautiful way to represent the history and resilience of Palestinian culture.”

    Nicola Coughlan, star of the popular Netflix series Bridgerton, has raised $1.2 million (£1.01 million) for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) through a social media campaign.

    Known for her role as Penelope Hetherington, Coughlan used her platform to support humanitarian causes, especially those affecting children in genocide zones. Her campaign received much support, and she shared the news on Instagram.

    Coughlan thanked everyone who contributed, saying, “I’m overwhelmed by the amount raised so far and very grateful to everyone who has shared it. Please continue to do so if you can.”

    The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund confirmed that the fundraiser attracted donations from Coughlan herself and 82,794 other supporters worldwide.

    IT ministry demands Rs20 billion to improve country’s cybersecurity, social media

    The federal government has sought Rs20 billion for the next fiscal year to improve the country’s cybersecurity and manage social media. According to the proposal, the government will only allow social media platforms to operate if they establish local offices.

    The Ministry of Information Technology has demanded Rs20 billion for the Digital Information Infrastructure Initiative (DIII) in the 2024-25 fiscal year budget, according to government sources who spoke to The Express Tribune.

    The Express Tribune requested comments from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Information Technology, but they did not respond. Government sources also revealed that Rs15 billion has already been allocated as a technical supplementary grant to the information technology ministry for the current fiscal year.

    However, the total cost of the DIII project, which is equipped with Chinese technology, is Rs38 billion. The government is spending a significant amount this year, and the remaining amount has been requested for the next fiscal year.

    Chaudhry Parvez Elahi released from Kot Lakhpat jail after months

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was released on Tuesday after being detained in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat jail for months, Geo has reported.

    The development comes after the Lahore High Court (LHC) approved the bail of the senior politician in the Punjab Assembly illegal recruitment case. Justice Sultan Tanvir of the LHC announced the decision on Elahi’s bail request.

    After the release, the PTI president reached his residence in Lahore.

    Parvez Elahi was arrested after May 9 events, when authorities cracked down on the opposition party.

    Earlier last year, on May 9, violent protests erupted after the arrest of PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

    The protesters attacked public and private properties, including military installations, in multiple cities across the country. In prominent locations, General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi and Jinnah House Lahore are included, where violent protesters attacked.

    However, the PTI president said that the people of Gujarat “had to suffer a lot of abuse and cruelty”. He also stated that PTI’s mandate was stolen in his home city. “We will not talk to [Chaudhry] Shujaat sahib’s children until our mandate is given back to us.”

    “I was, am, and will stand with the founder of PTI,” he added.

    Islamabad High Court to hear petition against Dar’s appointment as deputy PM

    The Islamabad High Court (IHC) will hear a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) today against the appointment of Ishaq Dar as deputy prime minister, ARY News has reported. 

    IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq will hear the plea filed by PTI’s Sher Afzal Marwat.

    In the submitted petition, the famous PTI leader said that the appointment of Dar as deputy prime minister is illegal because the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader is also working as the foreign minister.

    “The office of the deputy prime minister is unconstitutional, and there is no provision in the Constitution of 1973 that allows the Prime Minister to appoint someone as his deputy,” the PTI leader added.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan said on Friday that he will write a letter to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir not for his personal benefits but for the sake of the country.

    Talking to journalists at Adiala jail during the hearing of the £190 million case, Imran praised Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, calling him a courageous person.

    Khan also questioned why the petitions of PTI workers regarding May 9 are not being heard.

    Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said on Thursday that he and his wife declared their properties a decade ago. Naqvi, a media baron who became Punjab’s caretaker Chief Minister and now also holds the coveted position of Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), stressed that there is nothing new in the “Dubai unlocked” project. 

    Naqvi revealed that his wife not only owns properties in Dubai but also in the United Kingdom (UK).

    He gave a detailed response to the Dubai leaks in a press conference in Lahore after the leaked property records named several prominent personalities in Pakistan, including government officials, politicians, military generals, and other individuals.

    He also said that it is necessary for the national media to report about major developments, but portraying that someone owned property with illegal means is wrong.
    The former caretaker chief minister of Punjab also stated that he was not in any official position 10 to 12 years ago, but he had properties at that time as well.

    Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Faisal Karim Kundi has said after a verbal fight with KP’s chief minister Ali Amin Gandapaur that he believes in peace and respects everyone. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and newly appointed Governor also said that he would like to invite Gandapur for dinner. 

    Talking to journalists, Kundi said that he is ready to personally visit leaders of all political parties for the betterment of the province.

    He urged all political parties to sit together to solve multiple issues in KP, stressing that facilitating people should be the main focus.

    “Now is the time to serve people,” averred the Governor, urging politicians not to indulge in abusive politics.

    Khan wants General Asim Munir to apologise to him

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder chairman Imran Khan said in a post on X that “My abduction on the morning of May 9 was part of the London plan and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir should apologise to me.”

    Imran Khan further said in the same post that “DG ISPR and the army chief are making political statements in a threating tone, which is affecting the army’s image.”

    “When political statements and press conferences are made, political parties have the right to respond,”  he added.

    The former Prime Minister also said that he will write a letter to COAS General Asim Munir about the economic and political situation of the money-strained country, Geo News has reported.

    While talking to journalists in Adiala jail on Monday, the former Premier said, “I will write a letter to the army chief on the [prevailing] situation in the country.”

    The remarks came about a few days after he assigned an “important responsibility” to former president Arif Alvi, who is continuously trying for better relations between PTI and the establishment.

    PTI founder assigned the responsibility of talks with the establishment to Alvi after declining the military’s demand to apologise for the May 9 violent protests. 

    On a question regarding the £190 million settlement case, the PTI founder said that Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) had confiscated money, finding it “suspicious transactions” but not “money laundering.”

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to meet the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission next week to talk about a new loan programme, ARY News reported on Monday. 

    Sources in ARY claimed that the prime minister is expected to talk about getting more money from lenders, and reassure the Fund about meeting targets in the new loan programme.

    They will discuss continuing stringent economic policies in the budget for the upcoming year.

    Pakistan is seeking a $6 to $8 billion bailout package from the international lender for three to four years to address its financial woes.
