‘PML-N will not give up its fight against the violators of Constitution’: Nawaz Sharif

Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif says that his party will continue its fight against the violators of the Constitution.

Nawaz Sharif, who is in London for medical treatment since 2019, posted a series of tweets and reaffirmed his party’s stance.

“This struggle is not for winning or losing seats (in AJK polls) but for freedom from the transgressors and violators of the Constitution and standing on the right side of history without compromising on our self-respect,” tweeted Sharif.

Nawaz Sharif said that the people who are suffering due to inflation, poverty, and unemployment, are raising their voice in the streets to get rid of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). They are also decrying the PTI government for raising the prices of flour, sugar, ghee, and medicines, Sharif added.

The PML-N leader further said that nobody will believe in PTI’s victory where they secured 26 seats in AJK elections with 600,000 votes, while PML-N got six seats with 500,000 votes.

“The results of AJK and Sialkot elections came out before the public way before these elections were held,” added Nawaz.

He said that such things will also be exposed in the coming days.

  • PTI: Party within a party?

    PTI: Party within a party?

A rift between the pro-Tareen faction within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is creating issues for the ruling party.

On July 24, Lahore police lodged a first information report (FIR) against PTI’s MPA in Punjab, Nazir Chohan. He is a prominent member of the disgruntled Jahangir Khan Tareen (JKT) group. The FIR against Chohan was registered at the request of Adviser to the Prime Minister Imran Khan on Interior and Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar.

Bail was granted to Nazir Chohan on July 27 after police arrested him from Johar Town area in Lahore.

A statement issued by JKT spokesperson said that the group members wouldn’t be scared by such tactics.

“An individual present in Islamabad is using the institutions for personal interests but we will not let anyone achieve their ill-intentions,” said the spokesperson on JKT’s behalf.

Shahzad Akbar on Thursday said that Member of Punjab Assembly Nazir Chohan “falsely accused” him and then “continued to voice his claims openly”.

The PM’s aide asserted that Chohan ran a “fake campaign” against him, “putting his life, as well as those of his family at risk”.

“I lodged a complaint to the police and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) as a common citizen,” said Akbar.

According to the police, Chohan had been initially arrested for his comments against Akbar during a private TV channel’s show and was to be shifted to the FIA’s cybercrime office. Whereas, the recent arrest was made over a separate complaint against Chohan, filed by Akbar for remarking on the latter’s religious beliefs.

‘Extremely unfair to allege Pakistan supported Taliban’: PM Khan

In an interview with PBS Newshour, Judy Woodruff asked Prime Minister Imran Khan about Pakistan’s alleged military, intelligence, and financial support to Afghanistan.

PM Khan replied, “I find this extremely unfair.”

The premier added that when the Pakistani government decided to join the United States (US) war on terror, “we were devastated by that”. PM said that 70,000 Pakistanis died because of the US war in Afghanistan, even when “Pakistan had nothing to do with what happened” [in New York on September 11, 2001].

Al Qaeda was based in Afghanistan at the time, and “there were no militant Taliban in Pakistan,” he said, maintaining that Pakistan was not involved in the 9/11 attacks.

“We had nothing to do with it,” he repeated, regretting that the war in Afghanistan had resulted in a loss of $150 billion to Pakistan’s economy.

PM further added that the US “really messed it up in Afghanistan”.

Judy Woodruff asked PM Imran about claims of Taliban sanctuaries being present in Pakistan and a report about 10,000 fighters crossing the border to help the group in Afghanistan.

“Judy, for a start, this 10,000 Taliban — or as the Afghan government says, Jihadi fighters — have crossed over, is absolute nonsense. Why don’t they give us evidence of this?” asked PM Imran.

To a question about safe-havens, the premier questioned where the sanctuaries are located in Pakistan.

“Taliban are not some military outfit. They are normal civilians. If there are some civilians in these camps, how is Pakistan supposed to hunt these people down? How can you call them sanctuaries?” asked PM Imran.

“First of all, they tried to look for a military solution in Afghanistan when there was never one. And people like me, who know the history of Afghanistan and kept saying there isn’t a military solution, were called anti-American. I was called Taliban Khan,” said PM Imran.

The prime minister further added, “I don’t know what the objective was in Afghanistan, whether there was to have some nation-building, democracy or liberate the women. Whatever the cause was, the way they went about it was never going to be the solution.”

“When they finally decided there is no military solution, unfortunately, the bargaining power of the American or North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) forces had gone,” said the premier.

“Once they had reduced the troops to barely 10,000 and when they gave the exit date, Taliban thought they had won,” said PM Imran. He added that it is difficult right now to ask the group to compromise or “force them” to take a political solution.

“It’s very difficult to force them into a political solution because they [Taliban] think that they won,” said PM Imran.

PM Khan further said, “Pakistan is hosting over three million Afghan refugees. And what we fear is that a protracted civil war would [bring] more refugees. And our economic situation is not such that we can have another influx.”

“Secondly, the worry is that the civil war will flow into Pakistan because Taliban are ethnic Pashtuns. Now there are more Pashtuns on our side of the border than Afghanistan. And so the worry is if this goes on, the Pashtuns on our side will be drawn into it and that is also the last thing we want,” said PM Imran.

  • ‘Anyone who commits rape, solely and solely that person is responsible’: PM Khan

‘Anyone who commits rape, solely and solely that person is responsible’: PM Khan

In an interview with Judy Woodruff of PBS NewsHour, Prime Minister Imran Khan clarified that his previous comments about rape were taken out of context.

“Anyone who commits rape, solely and solely that person is responsible. So let’s be clear about that. No matter how provocative the woman is or whatever she wears, the person who commits rape is fully responsible. Never is the victim responsible,” said PM Khan.

“More than rape, there is child abuse [cases] which are going through the roof, so my comments were in that context,” said PM Khan.

The premier stated that he used the word “pardah”, adding that the word does not just mean clothes or is restricted to women only. He said that “pardah” is also for men and means to “bring down temptation in a society”.

“And I have to say because I know all the interviews I have given. Never would I say such a stupid thing where a person who is raped is somehow responsible. It is always the rapist that is responsible,” added the premier.

Woodruff also questioned the PM if he believes that in his country the importance of Islam complicates PM’s ability to take a stronger stand against violence against women.

“Absolutely not. Islam gives dignity [and] respect to women,” the PM responded to her question. He added that after traveling all over the world, he found that in Muslim countries, women are treated with more respect.

“In Pakistan, even in other Muslim countries I have seen, women [are] treated with far more respect and given more dignity,” said PM Khan.

The PM admitted that there are “odd cases” in relevance to the respect of women but he explained that such a situation was “everywhere in the world”.

“But you look at the situation in Pakistan even now, I mean look at the rape cases here, compared to Western countries, they are minuscule,” said the PM.

The premier accepted that there are problems in Pakistan and he linked them to “cultural problems”. He then went on to say that such cultural problems exist in every nation and are resolved with cultural evolution and the right education.

“As far as a woman’s dignity and respect goes, I can say after going all over the world, this [Pakistani] society gives more respect and dignity to women,” concluded PM Imran.

Last month, in an interview with Axios on HBO with Jonathan Swan, PM Khan had said that “if a woman is wearing very few clothes, it will have an impact on the men, unless they are robots”. His statement was heavily critised and he came under fire for his reaction to the rising cases of sexual violence in Pakistan.

‘I leave it in Allah’s hands, I leave it in Allah’s hands’: Noor’s mother breaks down at funeral

During Noor Mukadam’s funeral, her mother leaned on her daughter’s face and said, “I leave it in Allah’s hands, I leave it in Allah’s hands.” She kept repeating these words as she broke down during the last rights of her daughter, reports BBC Urdu.

According to the report, the scenes at Noor Mukadam’s funeral were the same as when someone leaves the world. There were tents on the porch, outside. Men and women were in the drawing-room.

Noor’s mother was told much later what really transpired and how Noor died. She would ask if she [Noor Mukadam] had been shot, and everyone would say yes.

Noor’s father, former Pakistani diplomat Shaukat Mukadam, met everyone with great patience but tears began to roll down his eyes as he met the people who had come to pay their condolences to the family.

The friends who were present at the funeral were devasted and some of them told the BBC that Noor would have called for help many times but she was a soft-spoken person and her voice might not have been audible to others.

Shaukat Mukadam, while talking to the media earlier in the day said, “Zahir Jaffer is a person of a criminal mindset.”

“This is not a case where the suspect escaped. He was caught and caught with a weapon,” Mukadam said.

“My daughter was a very sweet and kind-hearted girl. Our family has been crying badly since yesterday,” he said.

“If such a person was employed as the director of a company, he is a registered therapist, his parents, too, must be made part of the investigation,” Mukadam said.

Mukadam said that he has served the country as an ambassador and only seeks justice. He wants justice from the prime minister and the courts.

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s aide Dr Shahbaz Gill went to pay his condolences at Noor Mukadam’s residence. Talking to the media, he urged the Opposition to pay their condolences to the family of the deceased.

He said, “I will urge our courts to not take Noor Mukadam’s case as a usual case and fulfill all the legal procedures in the case.”

“Every Pakistan is extremely saddened by the murder of Noor. Prime Minister Imran Khan has asked Inspector General Islamabad Qazi Jameel-ur-Rehman not to make any concessions while probing the murder of Noor Mukadam,” added Gill.

Gill said that the government is with the family of Noor and justice will be served at all costs.

He said, “Noor can never be brought back, but what can be done is justice.”

Noor Mukadam, 27, was shot and then beheaded, her post mortem report states that she was stabbed several times and then beheaded in Islamabad.

The incident took place on July 20 in F-7/4 in Islamabad, reportedly at the residence of Zahir Jaffer, who was arrested for Noor’s murder.

Our own people were involved in drone attacks says PM Khan

Addressing an election rally in Kotli, Azad Kashmir, Prime Minister Imran Khan said, “Our ally, the one we considered our friend used to do drone attacks on our country. Drone attacks used to occur in Pakistan both during the tenure of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo, Nawaz Sharif, and former President, Asif Ali Zardari’s time.

They both used to condemn the attacks but deep with they had permitted for the attacks to occur. Why doesn’t any drone attack happen in my [PM Imran Khan] term.”

“You should not blame the United States for the drone attacks, our own people were involved,” added the prime minister.

PM Khan asked the people to question the Opposition as to what did they do for the betterment of their people while they were in power

“Both PML-N and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) both had five years in power, how much did these two parties advocate for the people of Kashmir internationally?” questioned PM Khan.

Khan reiterated that ever since the Indian Prime Miniter Narendra Modi’s party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came into power, the people of Kashmir have gone through the most turmoil.

“The ideology of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) being practiced by Modi is that of the Nazism, ‘borrowed by the German Nazi’,” said the PM.

“India has the strongest lobby with Israel and our Prime Minister (Nawaz Sharif) was busy inviting Modi to weddings for his own benefit.

Earlier during the day, Prime Minister Imran Khan had rubbished talk of him “wishing to turn Azad Jammu and Kashmir” into a new province of Pakistan.

“I do not know where all this talk has sprung from,” he said, dismissing any notion of such an idea.

“But what I want to make clear now, is that in 1948, there were two United Nations Security Council resolutions which granted the people of Kashmir the right to decide their own future. According to the UN resolutions, the people had to decide whether they want to join Hindustan or Pakistan.

“I want to clarify to all of you today. InshaAllah, a day will come, when all the sacrifices made by the people of Kashmir, will not be wasted. God will grant you that right. There will be a referendum, InshaAllah.

‘The world has seen true face of so-called Indian democracy,’ Pakistan demands answers

In a statement released by the Foreign Office regarding India’s use of Israeli spyware, Pegasus, to hack Prime Minister Imran Khan’s phone, Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez stated, “We call on the relevant UN bodies to thoroughly investigate the matter, bring the facts to light, and hold the Indian perpetrators to account.”

The statement further said, “We condemn in strongest possible terms India’s state-sponsored, continuing and widespread surveillance and spying operations in clear breach of global norms of responsible state behaviour.”

“Keeping a clandestine tab on dissenting voices is a long-standing textbook ploy of the RSS-BJP regime to commit human rights atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and peddle disinformation against Pakistan,” read the statement.

“The world has seen the true face of the so-called Indian ‘democracy’. We are closely following these revelations and will bring the Indian abuses to the attention of appropriate global platforms.”

The recent revelations by Pegasus Project show that the Indian government had targeted Prime Minister Imran Khan’s phone for surveillance in 2019. Analysis of the more than 1,000 mostly Indian phone numbers selected for potential targeting by using Pegasus spyware strongly indicates intelligence agencies within the Indian government were behind the selection.

‘You have your ex to blame’: Maryam Nawaz responds to Jemima

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz responded to Jemima Goldsmith’s tweet where she called out Maryam for her anti-semitic comments regarding her sons.

“I have absolutely no interest in you [Jemima], your sons, or your personal lives.”

“I [Maryam] have better things to do and say, but if your ex [Imran Khan] drags in families of others out of spite, others will have nastier things to say,” responded Maryam Nawaz.

She further wrote, “You have only your ex to blame.”

Jemima Khan on Tuesday had lashed out against Maryam Nawaz for saying that her [Jemima’s] children were “being raised in the lap of the Jews”. She said that she left Pakistan 17 years ago, “after a decade of antisemitic attacks by the media and politicians (and weekly death threats and protests outside my house). But still it continues.”

Maryam Nawaz made the following statement after PM Imran Khan took a jibe at her son, Junaid Safdar.
