    ‘Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme’ was made in ‘Purana Pakistan’, alleges journalist

    Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated a low-cost housing colony for labourers and industrial workers on Wednesday.

    The PM said the housing scheme for workers in Peshawar was launched in 2011 but it remained incomplete since then as it was not a priority because it was meant for the poor labourers. He said he wanted to see how much the condition of the poor had improved after the five-year tenure of the PTI government. This new project has now been put under the ‘Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme’.

    However, a report by journalist Izharullah sets the record straight about the origins of the scheme. 

    

    The labour colony in the Regi Lalma area of Peshawar was approved in 2008 during the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) regime. Work on the project began in 2011, with a total of 1,200 flats. However, in 2013, construction of 1,000 additional flats was approved. 
    

    The project was funded by the Workers’ Welfare Board, an organisation working for the welfare of workers, and funding for it was obtained from the Workers’ Welfare Fund set up under the same board.
    

    Addressing the inaugural function, PM Imran Khan said that the government had launched a ‘new Pakistan housing scheme’ under which the working class and the poor would get houses. 
    

    At the time the colony was approved, there was a PPP-Awami National Party coalition government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Work on the labour colony began in April 2011, and was completed in 2020. Some work is still pending though.
    

    These flats were approved for labourers in Hattar, Peshawar, Takht Bai, and Haripur. These projects were later inaugurated in 2013 by the then PPP Provincial Labour Minister Sher Azam Wazir. The old name plates have been removed and the housing scheme has been inaugurated once again. 
    

    Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Kamran Bangash, tweeted that about half of the flats were started in 2011, while the rest were started in 2013. “However, due to the Workers Welfare Fund being a federal department, the funds of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were cut off during the Nawaz era,” tweeted Bangash.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)  leader Faisal Vawda downplayed the significance of the leaders who support Jahangir Khan Tareen, saying they can be handled by a station house officer (SHO) alone.
    

    

    


    

    

    

    Faisal Vawda criticised Jahangir Tareen on a talk show on ARY News, ‘Off The Record’, saying, “There is no doubt that Jahangir Khan Tareen is an intelligent and successful person. But he is not Imran Khan, for sure.”
    

    The PTI leader said Tareen earned respect thanks to Imran Khan, adding that whatever reputation he had was only because of PM Khan. Giving his own example the leader said he came into power because PM Khan’s name was associated with him. He alone could not have done anything. 
    

    Vawda said no one should lose sight of their standing. He asserted, “Imran Khan is the leader and he will remain so and 50 million Jahangir Tareens, 500 million Faisal Vawdas, and 500 million cabinets put together could not create a single Imran Khan.”
    

    On Tuesday night, Jahangir Khan Tareen hosted a dinner at his residence and announced a ‘group of like-minded people’.     ‘No place for those who do not trust PM Khan,’ says Qureshi
    
			
    Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) has no place for the ones who do not trust Prime Minister Imran Khan. Qureshi said this on ‘Geo Pakistan’.
    

    He said that all the elected members of the party are committed to Imran Khan’s discipline.
    

    “No elected member could violate the party discipline over the vote of confidence and the finance bill,” he said, further adding that the membership of those who do not adhere to the government’s stance will get affected.  
    

    Qureshi said that PM Khan had invited the pro-Tareen group members and heard their concerns. PM assured them that there will be no injustice.
    

    Without taking any names, Qureshi hinted that Jahangir Tareen must show faith in his leader. “Those who no longer have faith in the PM should not stay in the party,” he stated.
    

    Nazir Chauhan, a prominent member of JKT group, criticized PM on ARY News Programme, ’11th hour.’
    

    

    


    

    

    

    “So if there is no Imran Khan, there will be no PTI?” Nazir questioned angrily. He further added, “We gave 12 years to the party . Are we mad or are we slaves?”
    

    Chauhan asked, “Is PTI only Imran Khan?”
    

    Shortly after this, #IStandWithImranKhan started trending on Twitter. Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar also took to Twitter to show support for PM Khan.
    

    

    


    

    

    

     Jahangir Tareen denied reports that he was forming a forward bloc in the party.

    Disgruntled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen on Wednesday denied reports that he was forming a forward bloc in the party.
    

    “We were part of the PTI, and we will continue to remain part of the PTI,” Tareen announced outside the banking court where he had appeared for a hearing. He said that the like-minded group was established three months ago. 
    

    Tareen said that his supporters had decided to form a separate group after the Punjab government initiated “revenge actions” against them.
    

    Tareen said his ‘supporters’ were standing with him as far as, what he referred to as the “fake” FIR lodged against Tareen. The pro-Tareen group had met the prime minister recently.

    PTI’s Nazir Chohan has claimed that the new JKT party has eight members of the National Assembly and 32 members of the Provincial assembly with them. However, the names of the members of the ‘like-minded’ group are yet to be revealed.
    

    He further added that the whole group will resign if any of their members are disqualified. 
    

    A few hours after the news broke, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s close aide, Senator Faisal Javed Khan in a tweet wrote, “Imran Khan is PTI and PTI is Imran Khan,” which started speculation on social media that the tweet referred to the official breakup between JKT and PM Khan and the signalling of a new party.

    PM Khan’s aide Zulfi Bukhari resigns over allegations of corruption
    
			
    Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis, Zulfi Bukhari has stepped down from his position, owing to allegations in the ongoing Ring Road inquiry. Zulfi made the announcement on his Twitter account.
    

    “My Prime Minister has always said that if a person has been named rightly or wrongly in any inquiry he should cease to hold any public office till his name has been cleared of charges ,” wrote Zulfi Bukhari.
    

    “Owing to the allegations in ongoing Ring Road inquiry I want to set this example, by resigning from office until my name is cleared up of any allegations and media’s obnoxious lies,” he added. 
    

    He continued by saying, “I reiterate that I have nothing to do with Ring Road or any ongoing Real Estate project. This time the inquiry should be done by capable personnel. I endorse a judicial inquiry.’
    

    “I’m here to stay in Pakistan and stand united with the Prime Minister and his vision.”
    

    “I sacrificed my life overseas to come and serve my country, I am ready to face any inquiry,” he concluded.

    The news has been confirmed by Senator Faisal Javed, who said the calls would be broadcast live on television, radio, and social media.

    ‘PM stands with the working class, not the elite’: Fawad Chaudhry
    
			
     Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry defended the prime minister’s remarks about envoys. “PM stands with the working class and not the elite.” PM Khan chastised Pakistani envoys recently over their missions’ indifferent behaviour towards the expat community.
    

    “If we can’t raise our voices for overseas Pakistanis, we don’t have any right to remain in government,” added Fawad Chaudhry.
    

    The minister stressed that Pakistan would have to uplift the working class to progress and to strengthen itself as a country. Fawad recalled that the PM had only instructed his ambassadors that the well-being and welfare of the overseas Pakistanis must be a priority. 
    

    The information minister spoke about an incident involving an overseas Pakistani woman, saying that she was being subjected to unjust treatment over the past few years.
    

    

    


    

    

    

    “When she contacted an [Pakistani] embassy, she was told, ‘The police should take action against you for marrying thrice’,” said Chaudhry.

    Board exams to be held after June 15, announces Shafqat Mahmood
    
			
    Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood has announced that board exams will start after June 15 with priority for Grade 12 and 10 so that they can take admissions in universities without any delay. 
    

    The minister said the decision was taken in an Interprovincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) that took place on Wednesday.
    

    “Intermediate and Matric exams would be given priority so that results can come in before university admissions,” said Mahmood, adding that respective boards will announce the exact date of the exams later. 
    

    

    


    

    

    

    In lieu of rising cases of COVID-19, Shafqat Mehmood earlier announced that no examinations will take place in the country until June 15. The decision came after increased pressure by students for the cancellation of exams.

    Govt will complete its term: CM Punjab
    
			
    Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Usman Buzdar on Wednesday said that the government will definitely complete five years and the next general elections will be held in 2023. Talking to Punjab cabinet members and Punjab Assembly parliamentarians, CM Punjab said that Punjab is significantly ahead of all other provinces. Buzdar said that the politics of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is over. He added that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is spending money on backward areas as well, and not just Lahore. “People only want development and prosperity, the PTI government is pursuing equal development of every city,” added Buzdar.
    

    CM Punjab’s statement comes a day after analyst Sabir Shakir’s video went viral on social media where Shakir claims that the government will not complete its tenure and new elections will be held soon.
    

    

    


    

    

    

    PML-N’s Marriyum Aurangzeb said that this (new election) is the need of the hour. The country is facing high inflation and the people are suffering under the governance of PTI, She said.
