‘Left the party in difficult times’; PTI strikes back at Asad Umar

Asad Umar, former secretary-general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has stirred a hornet’s nest by stating in an interview with ARY’s Kashif Abbasi that he does not agree with party Chairman Imran Khan’s strategies. Umar also criticised the former Prime Minister for not negotiating with the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
“I had told Khan, things are not going in the right direction,” he remarked.

“I told Chairman PTI to not close the doors for talk with other stakeholders but he didn’t listen and it is the fundamental reason for me resigning from my party position,” the former Finance Minister told Abbasi.

During the interview Kashif asked Umar if he had gotten any deal offers, to which Asad said that he is getting invitations from the Istehkam-e-Pakistan party.

PTI took exception to Asad Umar’s statement, condemning what he said. The party spokesperson asked Asad Umar that if he had issues with the party’s strategy then why didn’t he leave his position at that time.

“Ambiguity and confusion are evident in Asad Umar’s thoughts; Asad Umar’s claims that he stepped down from the duties of secretary general due to disagreements over the chairman’s strategy appear to contradict reality,” the statement read.

It is further mentioned in the party’s statement that Asad Umar left the party alone in difficult times.

The statement further added that Asad Umar is well aware of the efforts made by PTI to talk to other political parties about national interest.

‘Buzdar does whatever I tell him’: Aleem Khan reads old WhatsApp messages with Imran Khan

Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) President Abdul Aleem Khan appeared on Geo News programme Jirga with Saleem Safi on Tuesday, making startling revelations about former Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar.

During the show, the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI) leader read out old whatsapp conversations with PTI chairman Imran Khan.

Here is a transcript of the Whatsapp conversation between Imran Khan and Aleem Khan:

    16 January 2022:

Imran Khan: Why is Samaa conducting a campaign against Buzdar? Don’t you know it’s hurting PTI more than him?

Aleem Khan replied to Khan’s message by sending him the twitter trend “corrupt buzdar” and wrote “I know your love for him but unfortunately he is definitely both corrupt and incompetent. Whatever he is doing in Punjab is bringing bad name to you.

“You were our only hope and you are letting it go only because of some stupid corrupt man.”

To which Khan said Aleem Khan to quote an incident where Buzdar was indulging in corruption. “Tahir Khurshaid was corrupt and removed. Can you give me one concrete example of his corruption?”

To which Aleem said: ” Sir today you are prime minister you don’t need me to verify. Ask ISI’s special branch (Intelligence Bureau) IB, you will have thousands.

“For me, I have given my ten years with full honesty and commitment to a man I still believe was honest and trustworthy and the only man who could have taken our country to heights,” said Aleem Khan in the text.

“I just feel humiliated when I see my party going down everyday because of one man, and I am not a hypocrite and will always be honest with you.”

To which Imran replied that he had asked IB to investigate allegations against the CM. “So far apart from some posting transfers there is nothing. I have asked ISI to give their input also. But Aleem Khan, you know the circumstances in which he was made the CM, yet you have been the most vocal critic of him on every forum.

“How does that help PTI? criticism from within hurts far more than the opposition and unlike Pervaiz Kahttak, he does whatever i tell him.”

Taking to Twitter, the former Prime Minister asked how could provide evidence against Major General Faisal Naseer when he was unable to register an FIR against him. Khan added, if the investigation were independent, he would prove that Naseer has been involved in crimes against citizens of Pakistan.

“Firstly, I own everything what I said in the videos. Question is, how can I provide evidence when I could not register an FIR against Gen Faisal Naseer who I know was not only behind the plot to assassinate me (along with Rana Sanaullah and Shehbaz Sharif) but also in the cover up that followed where he sabotaged the JIT report which had concluded that three shooters were involved,” he wrote.

JIT: Why did you name DGI?

  • ‘Apologise to the nation for record-high 38% inflation’: PTI wants Dar to resign

‘Apologise to the nation for record-high 38% inflation’: PTI wants Dar to resign

A spokesperson for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in a statement on Friday said that they want Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to resign and apologise to citizens for taking the country to the brink of default and unleashing 38 percent inflation.

The PTI spokesperson further said that the Economic Survey FY2023 “paints a truly dismal picture of the economy”.

“The epic failure of the PDM government has led to a ‘never-seen-before’ crisis with eight million workers becoming unemployed in FY2023, the unemployment rate rising to 10%, and causing nearly 18 million households to fall below the poverty line.”

“The epic failure of his ‘Dar peg’ policy has showcased again why we believe he is unfit for this job, with a complete lack of basic understanding of markets and economic policy. This policy has brought the economy to the brink of a default, with SBP reserves now standing at only $3.9bn, not even enough to finance one month of imports. They were $10.5 billion at the time of the VONC,” the statement added.

Amidst the economic crisis, the coalition government presented an expansionary budget for fiscal year 2023-24 on Friday.
