    Quaid-e-Azam University clashes leave 25 injured

    A clash between student groups of members of the Punjabi student council and the Pakhtun Students Council of Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad on Sunday left 25 students injured.

    The clash erupted after Punjabi students allegedly tortured Muzammil Marwat in the square above Karachi Heights. Following the incident, student groups began to gather in large numbers to engage in a physical fight, as reported by Tribune.

    Up to 80 Punjabi students led by Punjabi Students Council member Rana Hassan and 300 students of Chairman Pakhtun Students Council led by Asad Turi wrestled with each other for 40 minutes with iron rods and sticks near Hostel 7, resulting in severe injuries.

    After police intervention, the situation was brought under control.

    The Secretariat police registered a case under sections 324, 506, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against 380 students, including the leader of both groups.

    However, no one has been arrested yet.

    Student clashes in universities have become a major concern. A few weeks ago, a similar clash occurred between two student groups over the banner display at Punjab University.

    Power outage alert: Residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad to experience disruption today 

    Residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad are slated to experience a power outage today. The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has announced a scheduled power suspension programme for various areas within its jurisdiction. This planned interruption is imperative to facilitate necessary maintenance and routine development work. 

    According to an IESCO spokesperson, the power supply to different feeders and grid stations will be temporarily suspended during specific time windows. From 08:00 AM to 01:00 PM, the affected areas include Islamabad Circle, Anguri, NCP, Mengyal, Shahdara, Shahpur, Khayaban Iqbal, Pir Suhawah, Quaid-e-Azam University, Punjab House, Bari Imam, Mandala, Athal, NIH, and Suhadran Road Feeders. 

    Additionally, from 07:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, the power supply will be interrupted in the following areas: Islamabad Circle, SES, Fazal Ghi, NDC-1, H-11/4, I-10/2, New Exchange, Kidney Centre, Dr AQ Khan, Islamic University, Bahria University, G-10/1, 2 & 4, G-9/1, CWO, Dhok Najo, Raja Sultan, Eid Gah, Khasala, I-8/4, Service Road, Muslim Town, and FHS Feeders. 

    This scheduled power outage will also affect areas within Rawalpindi Cantt Circle, including FECHS, Swan Garden-I, IST, New Rawat, Old Rawat, CWO, AOWHS, and Sparco Feeders. Furthermore, areas covered by Rawalpindi City Circle, Pindhon, I-14/3, Noon, I-16/1, HPT Radio Pak, Lakho Road, Ameer Hamza, Officer Colony, New Milpur, Jinnah Camp, KRL, Zeeshan Colony, and Lakho Feeders will experience power interruptions. 

    According to APP, residents in Attock Circle, specifically Ghorghashti, Bara Zee, Maskinabad, Shah Dir, Radio Pak-I & II, Larnpur, Qaziabad, GBHP Colony, HMC Road, Taxila, Sher Shah Suri, Islampura Feeder, Chakwal Circle, Chakra Feeders, Jhelum Circle, and F-3 Gul Afshan, Sanghui, Chotala, Kantrela, Pakhwal feeders, and their surrounding areas will also be affected by this planned power suspension.

    17 Pakistani universities listed among world’s best institutions

    As many as 17 Pakistani universities have been listed among the best global universities for 2022.

    According to the ranking published by US News, Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad has been ranked 461 in the World Ranking for 2022. Aga Khan University, Karachi and COMSATS University Islamabad are following the QAU in the ranking respectively.

    Apart from these institutions, more universities have made to the list, such as the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) which is placed at 922, the University of Peshawar, at 933, University of Agriculture Faisalabad at 954, Government College (GC) University Faisalabad at 1,149, University of Punjab at1,242, Bahauddin Zakariya University at 1,368 and University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore have been placed at 1,458th position.

    Following the news, the Vice-Chancellor (VS) of QAU Prof Dr Muhammad Ali Shah congratulated the faculty, students, staff, and alumni on the official website of the university.

    Delivery boy gang rape case: Islamabad high court dismisses bail plea

    The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday dismissed the bail plea of prime suspect, Ibrahim Khan, in the alleged gang rape of a food delivery boy at Islamabad’s International Islamic University on June 18 2021.

    After the court rejected Khan’s bail plea, he was arrested outside of the court.

    In June of this year, a food delivery boy was gang raped by students at the International Islamic University. According to details, the rape victim was a 22-year-old student at Quaid-e-Azam University and was delivering food to make ends meet.

    The delivery boy delivered food to the hostel on Friday night. When he came out of the room, he fell to the floor and was moved to the hospital by the guards at the hostel.

    Two students were expelled, Ibrahim Khan and Mehmood Ashraf, and Ibrahim Khan’s bail plea was dismissed by the court.
