‘Offensive content lawsuit’: Murad Saeed to take legal action against Reham Khan’s book

Federal Minister for Communications and Postal Services Murad Saeed on Monday decided to take legal action against Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s former wife Reham Khan for her allegations and offensive content in her book ‘Reham Khan (memoir)’, reports Geo News.

Murad Saeed, during a meeting held in the presence of the premier, said that he would file a lawsuit against Reham in London for writing “offensive content” against the prime minister. “Posting false content should be stopped,” he added.

The news outlet revealed that PM Khan advised Saeed “not to worry about such matters and focus on his performance as the Opposition is worried these days.”

The issue came to light after the Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) cybercrime wing and the police arrested Daily Jinnah and Online news agency Editor Mohsin Jamil Baig. FIA raided the journalist’s house in the federal capital along with the police and took him into custody.

Baig was accused of initiating a debate on a television show with some controversial references towards PM Khan and Saeed.

Pemra issues show-cause notice to News One for airing ‘derogatory’ remarks about Murad Saeed

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Friday issued a show-cause notice to News One for airing “derogatory/demeaning remarks” about federal Minister for Communications Murad Saeed “without any editorial check” in a programme.

On Thursday, News One aired a show, ‘G for Gharidah’, at 10:05pm in which anchorperson Gharidah Farooqi questioned the decision of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan to award appreciation certificate to Murad Saeed as the top minister in his team for his outstanding performance.

Gharida asked the panelists on her show: “The Prime Minister seems satisfied with Murad Saeed. He is in the top position, what could be the reason?”

Analyst Mohsin Baig responded, “The reason [for Murad Saeed being at the top place] is written in Reham Khan’s book. I don’t really know about the projects.”

Senior journalist and analyst Iftikhar Ahmed said, “You took the name of the person on the top position,” Gharida interjected and said, “Murad Saeed Saab,” Ahmed continued, “Yes, everyone is aware of his [Murad Saeed’s] performance and the accusations against him.”

Journalist and analyst Tariq Mehmood said, “Two people are serious in this, one Imran Khan Sahib, second Murad Saeed Sahib. We shouldn’t be so serious about this. One conducted the ceremony, second came on the first place,” adding, “Some things are self-explanatory, Pemra will be keeping a close eye, don’t make us say all the things. A book has been mentioned.”

“He [Murad Saeed] is a very hardworking minister and very close to the prime minister. Once again he has proved through his performance and left everyone behind,” said Mehmood.

Senior defence analyst General (retired) Amjad Shoaib said, “I have not read the book that was being discussed. However, I will agree with Mohsin Baig’s analysis, which he just made.”

Twitterati started a debate with trends against the host of the show. Some questioned why was Gharidah Farooqi the subject of criticism as she had not said anything but just asked a question.

However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf official Twitter handle shared a clip of the show and wrote, “Extremely shameful on Ghareeda Farooqi’s part to lead a program with such derogatory language.”

Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) condemned “PEMRA for taking News One off-air on cable networks without following due process“.

Several political parties condemned News One being taken off-air.

  • Reham Khan loses defamation case to Zulfi Bukhari, pays £50,000

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s former wife Reham Khan has lost to former Special Assistant Sayed Zulfi Bukhari in a defamation case and has reportedly paid £50,000 as a contribution towards Bukhari’s costs and damages, reported Murtaza Ali Shah for Geo News.

In a statement attached with the court order, which she agreed to publish, Reham withdrew all allegations and rendered a full and unconditional apology.

Khan posted her apology on Twitter, in which she wrote, “On 6 and 7 December 2019, I published a video on my YouTube Channel, my Facebook page, and on my Twitter account in which I asserted that Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari, more commonly known as Zulfi Bukhari, was involved in a corrupt plan with the Prime Minister of Pakistan to sell or acquire the Roosevelt Hotel in New York at an undervalue for his benefit.”

“These allegations were false and untrue. Zulfi Bukhari, as I now understand, was not involved in any corrupt plan PM Khan to sell or acquire the Roosevelt,” she added.

Why doesn’t Maryam Nawaz drink lassi?

Despite being told that how can one be Lahori and not drink lassi, PML-N’s Maryam Nawaz says that she doesn’t drink the heavy yoghurt drink. She was asked whether she was ‘having lassi’ by someone who tweeted a picture of her holding a silver glass.

To which she responded and said, “I wish I could have it everyday but I have to watch my weight so coffee only”.

After her tweet, another follower commented that being Lahori and not having lassi is a crime.

to which she responded and said, “Isn’t it?”

This is not the first time Maryam has expressed her love for chilled drinks. She tweeted in 2013 that she loved the “tang of diet coke”, and in 2019 Imran Khan’s ex wife Reham Khan criticised her former husband for not letting Maryam Nawaz have diet coke when Maryam was in jail.

  • Ex-wife trolls Imran for petrol shortage in Pakistan when ‘world is running out of space to store it’

Ex-wife trolls Imran for petrol shortage in Pakistan when ‘world is running out of space to store it’

Former wife of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has taken a dig at him, calling him “selected” — a term used by the opposition to raise objections over Imran’s rise to power –, while highlighting the persisting petrol shortage at a time when “the entire world is running out of storage space for the same”.

“History will remember the selected person in Pakistan who created a shortage of petrol at a time when the world was running out of places to store it,” she tweeted.

The tweet came as a shortage of petrol and diesel at most fuel stations across the country reportedly due to the limited supply of petroleum products added to the miseries of people amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The scarcity of petrol across the country turned severe last week, as most petrol pumps remained closed in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta. Long queues could be seen on those stations that were open.

Sameer Najmul Hassan, chairman of All Pakistan Petroleum Retailers Association (APPRA), in a statement, said oil companies will likely run out of their oil stocks in the next three days. They have been left with the stock hardly enough to last out more than three days, he added.

He said a new quota of petroleum products is not being purchased due to a consistent decrease in the oil companies’ quota. No company other than the Pakistan State Oil (PSO) is purchasing oil at present, the APPRA chairman said.

“The situation seems to be going from bad to worse until Sunday,” he warned. He said 15 oil marketing companies in total, including the PSO, purchase oil in the country.

It is pertinent to note that in an unprecedented move, Pakistan, which imports 70 per cent of its crude oil from Saudi Arabia and the remaining from the United Arab Emirates (US), had in April canceled import of gasoline, diesel and crude oil to support the domestic refining industry as energy demand sharply declined amid countrywide lockdowns.

The decision to halt the import of petroleum products had followed country’s economic meltdown resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. In a letter to the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC), the Energy Ministry had said that the consumption of motor gasoline had dropped significantly due to lockdown by provincial governments to control the spread of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the globally plunging demand for oil brought by the coronavirus pandemic combined with a savage price war had left the fossil fuel industry broken and in survival mode, according to analysts. It faced the gravest challenge in its 100-year history, they said, one that will permanently alter the industry.

While the first few months into the pandemic saw price wars between oil giants as demand plunged, things are getting better as lockdown restrictions are gradually being eased.

  • Reham slams govt for ‘denying’ Diet Coke to Maryam Nawaz

Reham slams govt for ‘denying’ Diet Coke to Maryam Nawaz

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s former wife Reham Khan has lashed out at her former husband over the government’s restrictions on “Maryam Nawaz’s Diet Coke”, Pakistan Today reported.

According to the details, Reham in a video statement criticised the governmetn and said, “The Sharif family is a very resilient family. Your leader [Imran Khan] cannot spend even a single day in jail”, adding it would be very difficult if your leader [Imran Khan] is stopped from consuming Coke in jail.”

“You have placed restrictions on her Diet Coke today. Tomorrow if you have to spend a day in jail, you may not be served any Coke, Pepsi or Seven-up,” she added.

Reflecting on the events of 2014, Reham said what was happening today on the Pakistani political landscape was ‘karma’. She said Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman was doing the same things—dharna, long march, shutterdowns, protests—which Imran did in 2014.

While commenting on statements by the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) leader and Sheikh Rasheed, Reham said, “The betrayal and disloyalty that you have carried out with people, the same is happening (with you now). The same people, with whom you formed your small majority, are threatening you. They are not Reham Khan”.

She further said, “Your allies are also going to leave you. Ch Pervez Elahi was advising you to let Nawaz go abroad but you did not respond. You were disloyal to others in the past and now your people are going to be unfaithful to you.”

“What you (Imran) did to him in Punjab by bringing Buzdar. Now it’s time for Pervez Elahi’s turn.”

‘If we were still together’: Reham speaks about ‘puppet’ Imran

Reham Khan, former wife of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, has once again managed to make headlines by saying that she would not have “let herself and Imran be a puppet had the two still been together”.

Reham’s statement came as a reply to a follower’s tweet that said, “Had Reham been here, the government wouldn’t have seen such days.”

PM’s former wife is rather infamous for her statements hitting out at PM Imran and his ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Twitter as well as her personal Youtube channel.

Just last week, Reham had accused the premier of being involved in illegal transactions of foreign funds and “moral corruption for hiding accounts from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)”.

VIDEO: Ex-wife accuses PM Imran of receiving illegal foreign funds

Reham Khan, former wife of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, has once again stepped forth to level allegations against the premier; this time of receiving illegal funds from a foreign company.

“Two companies registered in the United States (US) under the signatures of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for illegal funding from the US. One company registered in Australia with the title: Insaf Australia Inc.,” Reham Khan tweeted.

She said that any funds received from internationally incorporated companies were prohibited under the law.

Continuing her tirade against the PTI leadership, Reham accused them of being involved in illegal transaction of money to Pakistan and being subjected to “moral corruption for hiding accounts from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)”.

She asserted that the PTI had declared only eight accounts in the ECP against 23, the rest of which “are hidden”, adding that that the discovered fake accounts of the Imran-led ruling party showed foreign currency worth billions of money deposited in them.

Reham, however, did not quote the amount of the money allegedly hoarded in these accounts.

She further said that Akbar S Babar has also alleged that besides a registered account of PTI United Kingdom (UK), there are two hidden functional accounts of the party at Lloyds Bank London, which are used for transmitting millions of money in Pakistan to the PTI leadership.

Akbar S Babar is the person who has moved the petitions against PTI in its foreign funding case.

‘Stop trying to reach me through friends,’ ex-wife Reham tells PM Imran

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s former wife, Reham Khan, has told the premier to “stop trying to reach her through friends”.

Vowing to maintain pressure on the Imran-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, Reham rejected the notion that she was speaking against Pakistan in her interviews to Indian media.

“I say this clearly for all busy with propaganda against me that I am talking against Pakistan. Reham is not a puppet nor a PM hopeful nor does she stand to make estates in the US [United States] with war money, like your fathers have. Stop trying to reach me through friends,” she wrote.

Reham further said that she “would not listen to corrupt strangers”.

“Have I ever listened? If I could not compromise on my idealism in a marriage do they really believe I will listen to corrupt strangers?,” she said in a subsequent tweet.
