    Here are all the roads that will be blocked in Karachi during Palestine march

    A Palestine solidarity march will take place in Karachi as UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is observed worldwide on Wednesday (today), reports Geo.

    The event is organised by the Palestine Solidarity Committee in Karachi.The rally is taking place during a crucial time of Israel’s illegal invasion of Gaza which has killed over 15,000 people and injured more than 30,000.

    Here is the traffic plan for today’s march which will be held at 3:30pm.

    Once the march starts, roads from Shahrah-e-Quaideen to Tariq Road and Sindhi Muslim Cooperative Housing Society (SMCHS) will be blocked.
    Moreover, Khalid bin Waleed Road and the road leading to PECHS Block 3 will also be blocked. As the march moves forward, the road leading to Kashmir Road from Khudadad signal will also be closed, said the traffic police.

    All the roads will be opened again when the march moves forward, informed the police.

    A user was kind enough to explain Zainab Market’s name, and it turns out because that’s the name of the owner’s daughter.

    Supreme Court has declared Khan’s arrest “illegal” and ordered the authorities to release him immediately.

    Supreme Court will hear Imran Khan’s plea against arrest at 2pm

    In an unexpected development, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was arrested from inside Islamabad High Court (IHC) by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday.

    Supreme Court will hear Imran Khan’s plea against arrest at 2pm:

    A three-member Supreme Court (SC) bench will hear PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s plea against his arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case at 2pm.

    The bench will comprise Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Athar Minallah.

    Shah Mahmood Qureshi Arrest:

    PTI’s Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been arrested in Islamabad and moved to an undisclosed location, according to the party.

    Fawad Chaudhry was arrested late last night and Asad Umar is already in custody.

    PM’s address to the nation:

    Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif in an address to the nation on Thursday termed damaging public property an “act of terrorism” and “enmity” towards the country.

    In a short address, the premier said that he would like to warn “terrorists” who are harming the country to stop, otherwise strict actions will be taken against them.

    Any further attack on the army, state will result in a strong reaction: ISPR

    The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said on Wednesday that the institution will not allow anyone to take the law into their hands.

    In a harshly worded statement, the army’s media wing said that Imran Khan was arrested from the Islamabad High Court “in line with the NAB statement and law”.

    “Immediately after this arrest, attacks were perpetrated on the army’s properties and installations anti-army slogans were raised,” it added.

    The statement also warned that, “Any further attack on the army and state will result in an extreme reaction.”

    ISPR also said that May 9 will be remembered as a “black chapter”

    Khan to stay with NAB for 8 days:

    NAB has gotten physical remand of PTI Chairman Imran Khan for eight days in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

    Army enters Punjab with govt permission:

    The Punjab Home Department has given permission to the Pakistan army to maintain law and order across the province amid civil unrest.

    Currently, internet service is suspended and protests are being carried out to show support for Imran Khan who was arrested from the premises of Islamabad High Court yesterday.

    NAB requests 14-day physical remand of Imran Khan:

    National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has requested physical remand of Imran Khan, Chairman of PTI, in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

    Additional Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar heard the Al-Qadir Trust case against Imran Khan at New Guest House, Police Line.

    During the hearing, the NAB prosecutor asked the court for a 14-day physical remand of Imran Khan.

    Asad Umar arrested:

    Asad Umar and Shah Mahmood Qureshi went to the Islamabad High Court to submit a petition pleading to meet Imran Khan.
    He has been arrested by Anti-Terrorist squad of Islamabad Police.

    PML-N Secretariat office in Model Town in flames:

    The protests against Imran Khan’s arrest have turned violent as the PML-N Model Town secretariat in Lahore has been set on fire by protesters.
    According to reports, a violent mob is heading to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s personal residence in Lahore.

    PTI to challenge Khan’s arrest in Supreme Court: Fawad Ch

    Fawad Chaudhry has said that PTI will challenge Imran Khan’s arrest in the Supreme Court in the morning.

    In his tweet, senior PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry labelled Khan’s arrest “illegal”.

    Amid the protest across the country in support of Khan, many mobile services have been suspended and now Twitter is also not working.

    Punjab Government imposes section 144

    The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 throughout the province amid the protest happening against the arrest of Imran Khan.

    The Home Department has released a notice stating that Rangers have been called in to aid the police in managing the situation.

    Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi in a tweet said that the government will not spare anyone involved in attack on the state of Pakistan.

    Rana Sanaullah’s press conference:

    Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah confirmed Khan’s arrest by NAB, adding that there are “dozens” of other cases with corruption inquiries in progress against the former premier.

    “Look at this person’s hypocrisy that when he was making false corruption cases against people, he himself was [involved] in such disgusting corruption,” he said.

    The interior minister said evidence is present for all of the above developments.

  • Half of Lahore sealed ahead of PTI’s Minar-e-Pakistan jalsa

    Punjab authorities have blocked several roads in Lahore including entry and exit points of the city ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s jalsa in Minar-e-Pakistan, set to be held today (Saturday) at 9pm.

    With the help of containers and trucks, the roads have been blocked. According to details, police have also placed barricades on major Lahore roads including Ravi Bridge and Thokar Niaz Baig, the two major entry and exit points which lead to Minar-e-Pakistan.

    In a tweet, City Traffic Police Lahore has given details about the closed roads and advised residents to use alternative routes.

    In the early hours of Saturday, PTI Chairman Imran Khan called on his supporters in Lahore to attend the jalsa after Taraweeh prayers which he believes will “break all records”. 

    “Everyone must assert their right as people of a free nation that won its independence and come to Minar-e- Pakistan,” he added. 

    Earlier, the government gave a green signal to PTI to hold its powershow, however, the closure of roads has created problems for residents.

  • Islamabad Traffic Police creates special squads to curb road stunts, one-wheeling

    Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has constituted special squads to prevent one-wheeling and road stunts in the federal capital.

    The special squads were created on the orders of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Muhammad Ahsan Younis to control one-wheeling, car racing, and rash driving, which endangers not only the offenders’ lives but also many other motorists.

    Various ITP units and special squads would conduct continuous patrolling operations at different spots of the metropolis, particularly on 7th Avenue, 9th Avenue, Margalla Road, Kashmir Highway, Islamabad Expressway, and Murree Road, and take action against motorists who engage in dangerous road stunts.

    The police officers and squads in these regions would maintain intensified watch, prohibiting young folks from being involved in dangerous actions.

    SSP Traffic, Rai Mazhar Iqbal stated that one-wheelers and rash drivers would face severe punishment. He urged parents to keep a close eye on their children and not allow them to play stunts on the roadways, endangering their lives.

    One-wheeler’s bikes will be seized, according to the SSP Traffic, while heavy fine tickets will also be issued to them.

    ‘Foreigners will come to Skardu’:PM Khan inaugurates international airport

    Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan said that the inauguration of Skardu International Airport would benefit tourism in Pakistan and foreigners would come to this area to find jobs.

    During a day-long visit to the region on Thursday, PM Khan inaugurated the Skardu International Airport and Jaglot-Skardu road.

    He predicted that tourists, including overseas Pakistanis and domestic tourists, would arrive in large numbers after the upgrade to the airport as well as the road.

    “We can make at least $30-$40 billion from tourism just in Gilgit Baltistan,” PM claimed.

    Explaining his vision, PM said that “no country can truly develop until it elevates its poor and improves its backward and neglected areas”.

    “It is my desire that by the time our five years are complete, the life in backward areas is better and the lives of people below the poverty line are improved,”he added.

    The airport in Skardu was previously only operational for domestic flights. However, its status was elevated on December 2 when it began welcoming international flights.

    A spokesperson for the National Highway Authority (NHA) said that the 167-kilometre Jaglot-Skardu road is the “main strategic road” that connects GB with the Karakoram Highway at Jaglot.

  • Heavy snowfall blocks roads to Babusar Top, Chilas

    After heavy rain and snow, the roads to Chilas and Gilgit via Babusar Top-Naran Highway have been suspended, ARY News has reported.

    Different areas in Gilgit Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received heavy rain and snow for the two days resulting in a drop in the temperature of the region.

    Areas of Batogah Top, Fairy Meadows, Nanga Parbat have also been receiving snowfall.

    The entryways into Gilgit-Baltistan have been suspended while tourists have been told to avoid traveling here. The district authorities have stopped cars from entering the region.

    The rains have lashed out on the entire region, the district authorities said, as they stopped cars approaching the area.

    Roads for a truck driver

    I am from a country where public transport has been in shambles since the time of dinosaurs. The sitting prime minister of my country won the elections by practically convincing the people that building roads and public transport was not important. So you can well imagine moving around the cities would be some sort of hell for most of us. Being a vehicle owner myself and driving for the past 15 years, I cannot explain the amount of hate I have for driving. But I was always fascinated by the traffic post-midnight that consisted mostly of trucks. It was a different time. A different world altogether. A big giant never-ending trucks, on to a long journey, a journey not particularly entertained by what you call “human companionship”. Probably it is the very lack of human interaction that made truck driving a very fascinating world for me. I couldn’t explore it the way I wanted to because I am a woman stuck in a country where being a woman is your first crime. The rest of the crimes follow automatically but are all committed by others. Despite never truly knowing what it’s like to be a truck driver or their problems, I continued to be fascinated by the expansive and isolated journeys, the tuck shops, tarkay wali chai, and desi breakfast on a chorpoi at some deserted dhaba. Romantic, no?

    This romantic trance was however broken by the movie “Milestone”. A ‘daish-drohi’ (traitor) like myself indulged in Indian cinema at the recommendation of a very dear friend. I didn’t know what I was getting into. “Milestone” reintroduced me to the word ‘melancholy’ in a way that no other tragedy of my life had. I didn’t realise I had that many feelings that I simply refused to acknowledge or feel. I often felt that even the abyss I looked into didn’t reciprocate and I kind of felt unwanted even by the abyss. Till I watched “Milestone”. This movie saw through me like no other thing or person. 

    Ghalib, the protagonist of “Milestone”, plays the role of a truck driver. In the quietest opening scenes of the movie, the resignation in the face of Ghalib, the expansive emptiness of his eyes, and his lingering backache, everything got me hooked to the movie in the first few minutes. Ghalib’s story slowly unrolls and makes the audience acquainted with his loneliness, not only in his personal life but professionally too. His loneliness has been depicted brilliantly through the vast emptiness of the roads, his empty apartment, and his lonely driving duties at night accompanied by nothing but melancholy. The film drops hints here and there about the circumstances of his wife’s death but mostly remains focused on Ghalib’s long journey to nowhere. But even those hints suggest that he blames his aloofness, which made his relationship bitter and then nonexistent. The feeling of homelessness that instills in the opening scenes remains with you throughout the movie. 

    Ghalib, a man of few words, can be witnessed getting further worn down in the movie as a young recruit threatens Ghalib’s job. The young intern was zealous about perfecting the art of truck driving but Ghalib was desperate to save the only enduring relationship he had, which was his relationship with the truck. A lot of people would comment on the commodification of labour class or discuss how capitalism traps you, especially when it comes to the labour class but for me, Ghalib saying: “I do this job because it is who I am. My misery lies in the fact that this is all I am,” was a punch in the gut. This was his entirety of life, a long road, a never-ending journey, the misery of being who he was, and the lingering feeling of being disposable. 

    Director Ivan Ayer has encapsulated the predicament faced by the labour class with so much melancholy. The attention to detail and the long uninterrupted scenes with fewer words keep you going as you explore layers and layers of emotions such as despair, paranoia, and loneliness. Ivan has done a tremendous job in portraying the diminishing value of human life by walking the audience through the protagonist’s life. 

    You might wonder if my fascination ended with the life of truck drivers? I don’t think so. I might never be able to romanticise it again but I have to say that the loneliness it offered was at the same frequency as mine. And I couldn’t thank Ivan enough for making this absolute masterpiece and giving such deep projection to the intricate emotions.

    Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Muhammed Hamza Shafqaat wrote in a Tweet, “Cloudburst in Islamabad has caused flooding in various areas. Teams are clearing nullahs/roads. Hopefully we will be able to clear everything in an hour”.

    Later, the DC Tweeted that the Islamabad roads have been cleared for traffic.

    Meanwhile, Pakistan Army troops also helped the local government after the high flood in Nullah Lai.

    “Heavy rains caused high water level in Nullah Lai and water accumulation in E 11. Army troops are busy in assisting civil administration in rescue & relief efforts . Contingencies plans in place to meet any flood situation,” Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement.

    Afghan President Ashraf Ghani landed in Lahore on Friday morning where he was received by Governor of Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and Chief Minister of the province Usman Khan Buzdar.

    The Afghan President is in the country on a two-day official visit on the invitation of Prime Minister Imran Khan. President Ghani is expected to participate in a business forum attended by representatives from both countries.

    He offered his Friday prayers at the Governor House before fulfilling his formal commitments.

    In order to avoid getting stuck in traffic, it is best to avoid all roads leading to and from the airport. Avoid Mall Road as well as it will be closed for VIP movement.

    Try staying within Defence or Model Town and avoid Gulberg and other areas surrounding the Mall Road. Better still, just stay at home today and chill.
