VIDEO: Selena Gomez ignores Indian fan asking her to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’

American singer Selena Gomez is trending online after a video surfaced where an Indian fan requested her to chant “Jai Shri Ram.”

Photographer Pallav Paliwal shared the video on Instagram, sparking mixed reactions from social media users with many finding the moment “embarrassing.”

In the clip, the fan asks Selena to say “Jai Shree Ram” to mark Diwali 2024. The chant is a traditional Hindu phrase meaning “Victory to Lord Ram.” Selena, appearing slightly confused, simply smiles and replies, “Thank you, honey,” instead of repeating the chant.

The video has received critical comments. A user wrote, “I feel embarrassed for him,” and a Hindu commenter remarked, “I’m Hindu, and this is embarrassing.” Another added, “You chose to make her say, Jai Shri Ram. bro, you wasted your chance.”

The clip appears to have been shot at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where Selena attended and won the award for Best Actress for Emilia Pérez. Gomez was recently back as Alex Russo when Disney rebooted its Wizards of Waverly Place on October 29, 2024.

Earlier, Selena Gomez got into trouble after posting an innocuous picture on Instagram.

In the picture, there was a Starbucks coffee cup in the background. People got really mad at her because she not only bought coffee from Starbucks but also showed it off on her platform. This upset people because there’s a global boycott against brands connected to or supporting Israel, and Starbucks is one of them.

But some fans got upset, as Starbucks had been boycotted by supporters of the Palestinian cause and labour unions alike. One person criticized her for not knowing about the campaign against Israel called Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS).

People who support the BDS campaign are asking others to stop supporting Starbucks as Israel continues genocide in Gaza. One fan commented, “She really deserves all the hate she can’t be that stupid,” saying that Selena Gomez can’t really be unaware that Starbucks is connected to Israel’s controversial apartheid of Palestinians.

In reply, the singer directly addressed the criticism. She admitted she didn’t know about the issue and said sorry if she upset anyone. She responded to the comment, saying, “I did not know. So apparently I am that stupid. I’m sorry.”
The criticism shows how much the BDS movement is growing. They want companies and people stop supporting Israel because of the conflict with Palestine.

After Israel started a military operation on October 7, which led to the deaths of many Palestinians, people criticized Gomez for not showing support.

When she said that one post wouldn’t make a difference, she faced a lot of criticism. Then, her makeup brand’s Instagram page posted about the crisis in Gaza and said they wanted to help. They also shared the donations they made to organizations like the International Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies – Magen David Adom and Palestinian Red Crescent Society.

However, one X user pointed out how Gomez was still “both siding” the situation, especially given that Magen David Adom is Israel’s National Emergency Pre-Hospital Medical and Blood Services Organization.

“She’s donating to Magen David Adom who support the IDF and the killing of Palestinian kids,” said the user of the site formerly known as Twitter. “This is a ‘both sides’ post. Why are you donating to MDA which is literally supporting the IDF? Supporting both sides is not activism.”

  • Did Taylor Swift attend a comedy show raising money for Gaza?

Did Taylor Swift attend a comedy show raising money for Gaza?

Taylor Swift attended a fundraising comedy show hosted by Rami Youssef in New York on Friday.

Other celebrities present at the event include Selena Gomez, Cara Delevingne, Anya Taylor Joy and Zoë Kravitz.

The show was a part of Youssef’s More Feelings tour and Friday’s event was sold out while its profits are reportedly to go in aid for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza through American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA).

Earlier this month, when Time magazine revealed Taylor Swift as person of the year, criticism poured in from across social media as people asserted that it is the journalists from Gaza who deserve to grace the cover page.

Journalists in Gaza have been risking their lives and reporting from ground, unveiling Israeli atrocities being committed against Palestine. On the other hand, Taylor Swift is among the many famous, highly influential celebrities who has not spoken a single word in calling for a ceasefire in Gaza nor condemned Israeli attacks.

UN goodwill ambassador scorecard: How many spoke up for Palestine?

Since October 7 when Netanyahu declared war on Gaza and commenced bombardment that many experts are calling a genocide, social media users have expressed outrage against celebrities remaining silent about the atrocities, especially those who work with UNICEF. The UN body provides protection and aid for children from marginalised communities in countries like Syria and Vietnam.

But as the genocide of Gaza goes on, several people have noticed how prominent big names have remained silent.

Social media feels it’s absolutely necessary to point out that any person with a massive platform and influence has a responsibility to condemn a genocide or at least ask for a ceasefire. If you’re the goodwill ambassador of an organisation that is advocating for the rights of children, then the onus lies on you to speak out when it matters.

We have a list of big names who are working with UNICEF, and what was their stance on the death toll in Gaza.

    Selena Gomez

Selena, the most followed person on Instagram, sparked outrage when she posted a vague statement on her social media accounts, writing that she was against the murder of little children, and was taking a break because of the violence. She also added that “an Instagram post doesn’t change anything,” leading many to criticise the actress for being a hypocrite for using her 430 million followers to promote products, but not to stop a genocide.

Later, Selena announced she was deleting her account because of the backlash, causing further outrage. She then signed the petition calling for a ceasefire, and donated to charities in both Israel and Palestine. Social media was still not happy because the CEO of Rare Beauty, Selena’s beauty brand, has publicly expressed his Zionist ties.

    Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry

Orlando released a neutral statement on October 14 on his Instagram account expressing his grief on the innocent lives lost both in Israel and Palestine, calling for an end to the war. Then the celebrity couple signed the open letter calling President Biden to bring all hostages home and ending the Hamas.

    David Beckham

The former football star and UNICEF ambassador released a statement on his Instagram stories expressing his grief on lives lost on both sides and called for the violence to stop.

    Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka was among the several South Asian celebrities who signed the petition calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, and had also not attended the Diwali party held by Kamala Harris at the White House.

    Alyssa Milano

The actress released a statement criticising the calls for ‘no ceasefire’ at the Israeli march held in Washington, and called for a radical peace movement that helps the innocent children of Palestine.

    Amitabh Bachchan

The Bollywood giant was previously seen taking a selfie with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a 2018 event. He has not released a statement about the death toll of children and women killed in Gaza.

    Leo Messi

The Argentinian football player is a UNICEF ambassador and has made no public statement about the children killed in Gaza.

    Millie Bobby Brown

‘Stranger Things’ star Millie Bobby Brown has not commented anything about the lives lost in Gaza,

    Serena Williams

Famous tennis star Serena Williams has said nothing on the innocents killed in Gaza.

    Liam Neeson

The actor has not said anything on the mass atrocities committed in Gaza.

    Jackie Chan

The prominent Asian actor has said nothing about the civilian lives lost in Gaza.

  • After Selena Gomez faces backlash on Palestine, her beauty brand donates to Gaza

After Selena Gomez faces backlash on Palestine, her beauty brand donates to Gaza

Selena Gomez landed in controversy after she released a tone-deaf statement about the Israeli onslaught on Gaza where more than 10,000 civilians have been killed in airstrikes. Selena joined more than 400 celebrities who signed a petition calling for US President Joe Biden to ensure a ceasefire in Gaza.

The singer’s bestselling beauty brand ‘Rare Beauty’ has announced it will be making donations to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and International Red Cross/ Red Crescent Society, as well as to UNICEF to provide urgent medical and humanitarian relief to the civilians of Gaza.

“Rare Beauty will be making donations to the International Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies – Magen David Adom, & Palestinian Red Crescent Society – who are providing urgent care on the ground. We will also be donating to UNICEF to help get urgent medical relief & resources to the children of Gaza.”

Magen David Adom is an Israeli national medical service who are not based in Gaza.

Palestinian civilians have stressed time and time again they are no longer receiving donations as the Rafah border crossing in the South of Gaza remains closed. Civilians in Northern Gaza report they have not received any water or fuel.

Social media users shut down Rare Beauty’s ‘damage-control’ statement.

Selena Gomez caused outrage on social media when she released a statement on her Instagram stories, writing that she had been on a social media break because of the violence in the Middle East. After the statement was criticised for being insensitive, the ‘Only Murders In The Building’ actress threatened to shut down her Instagram account, leading to users slamming her for having a “victim complex”.

  • Senate of Pakistan stands with the people of Gaza, demands immediate ceasefire

Senate of Pakistan stands with the people of Gaza, demands immediate ceasefire

In a resolute effort to address the dire situation in Gaza, the Senate of Pakistan has passed a resolution, urging the Muslim Ummah to actively intervene and provide urgent assistance to innocent Muslims caught in the crossfire of the Gaza-Israel conflict.

The resolution, tabled by Senator Irfan Siddiqui, highlighted the collective silence of the Muslim world, emphasizing the need for immediate action to curb the escalating violence.

During the impassioned debate, Senator Siddiqui expressed disappointment over the lack of proactive measures from influential organizations like the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), urging them to stand up to Israel.

He underscored the stark contrast between the vast geographic expanse of Muslim-populated lands and the Israeli state, yet the discrepancy in action remained striking.

During his address to the Senate session, Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani raised concerns about the broadening extent of Israeli attacks, encompassing the West Bank and other areas, and expressed alarm regarding the loss of lives resulting from continued bombardments in Gaza strip and beyond.

Jilani highlighted that the United Nations has compared Gaza to a “graveyard” due to the substantial loss of life.

Mushahid Hussain Sayed took to X (former Twitter) and said, “Drafted unanimous resolution passed by Senate of Pakistan regarding GazaGenocide! Took a strong position reflecting full, unwavering & unconditional on supporting Palestine & beleaguered children, women & men of Gaza!”

Office of the Chairman Senate’s account tweeted, “I, strongly condemn the reprehensible airstrike on Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp by Israeli Terrorists. The senseless and barbaric act of taking innocent women and children’s lives is a horrific atrocity that shocks the conscience of humanity.”

Moreover, Senator Saadia Abbasi and Nisar Ahmed Khuhro emphasized Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with Palestine, condemning the establishment of the state of Israel as illegal and underscoring the historical context of Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian cause.

Senator Hafiz Abdul Kareem made his speech in Arabic, after obtaining special permission granted by the Chairman of the Senate.

Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan made a speech to appreciate the people of Hamas and Gaza.

Their unified voices condemned the ongoing violence as nothing short of the systematic genocide of the Palestinian people.

The resolution was supported by a heartfelt speech delivered in Arabic by Senator Hafiz Abdul Kareem, condemning the atrocities committed by Israel.

Additionally, senators urged the expulsion of Israeli diplomats from Islamic countries, expressing the belief that such a move could pave the way for the resolution of the Palestine issue.

Amidst the session, the Senate Chairman emphasized the significance of preserving the resolution in the Senate records, solidifying Pakistan’s commitment to the cause.

The senators called for increased financial and humanitarian aid to be extended to the embattled people of Palestine.

In a gesture of solidarity, Senator Ahmed Omar Ahmadzai strongly denounced the killing of innocent civilians and children in Gaza, emphasizing the need for active protection from Muslim countries.

Saleem Mandviwalla commended the Turkish President’s support for the Palestinian people, while Muhammad Qasim highlighted the alarming scale of the atrocities perpetrated against the Palestinians, labeling it as nothing short of genocide.

This resolution serves as a testament to Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and its commitment to seeking justice and peace for the affected people of Gaza.

  • ‘You call yourself a philanthropist?’: Twitter users roast Selena Gomez over tone-deaf view on Gaza genocide

‘You call yourself a philanthropist?’: Twitter users roast Selena Gomez over tone-deaf view on Gaza genocide

Hollywood actress and singer Selena Gomez was slammed by social media users online after her neutral take on the ongoing Gaza genocide. Al-Jazeera reports that intense bombing continue to target Gaza with the death toll already crossing 8000 including more than 3000 children.

Selena, whose Instagram following stands at 430 million, shared a statement on her stories writing she was heartbroken to witness the horror, naming neither Palestine nor Israel:

“I’ve been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence and terror that’s going on in the world. People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific. We need to protect all people, especially children and stop the violence for good.”

The last comment, “I wish I could change the world. But a post won’t,” triggered outrage.

selena gomez is being so stupid right now. she is downplaying her massive following and being hypocritical. if a post can’t help change the world why call yourself a philanthropist?? why post about mental health, blm, womens rights, american elections etc etc” a user wrote.

Many compared the ‘Only Murders In The Building’ actor’s response to the Ukraine war to this, criticising her for not considering brown lives as important as white ones.

Others criticised the actress for responding in the same tone-deaf manner in 2016 when she was criticised over her silence on the Black Lives Matter protests.

Many criticised the statement for being incredibly tone-deaf, pointing out the actress was privileged enough to take a break from social media during the genocide but people in Gaza couldn’t turn away from the violence.

‘After 6 years of of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I will just ask everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful.”

Troubled pop singer Britney Spears and her husband Sam Asghari are divorcing after 14 months of marriage, TMZ has reported. The split comes after allegations of cheating emerged, the outlet has stated, adding that the couple, who got married in 2022 after being in a relationship since 2016, have been having heated arguments. Sam has reportedly moved out and is living in a place of his own.

Another insider told Page Six that a source of their conflict has been Britney’s prenup which was filed before her marriage and protects all her assets and finances, however, a source has confirmed that the 29-year-old model threatened to go public with the 41-year-old pop-star’s secrets in an attempt to negotiate what the prenup provides.

The two had announced their engagement to the with both Britney and Sam sharing pictures of the engagement ring, right after she won a legal battle to remove her father as her conservator, a binding agreement that the singer had been placed in since 2008.

The ‘One More Time’ singer has publicly slammed both her father and sister in multiple Instagram posts for bullying her. In a now-deleted post put up in 2022, Spears slammed her sister and mom, revealing how she had been made to work to earn a living for the family while her younger sister Jamie, indulged her interests:

“I flew home to Jamie Lynn on the couch watching her TV shows right after Justin [Timberlake] and I broke up… I was a ghost there! I had worked my whole life and I didn’t know how to be served by Mamma, sit there and get served the chocolate milkshakes with the perfectly crushed ice with the secret chunky sugar.

“Meanwhile Jamie Lynn is 12, she indulges with the TV for hours then goes to lay out on a raft at the pool. I’m in shock because this was never my life!”

“Justin’s family was all I knew for many years. Things were different now and Jamie Lynn had a new Nickelodeon show. All I remember saying was ‘DAMN! How the hell does a 12 year old land a Nickelodeon show?

“… I’m grown up right! But then maybe I might need a little support. It was a People Magazine cover…”

  • Taylor Swift announces 1989 (Taylor’s Version)

She never goes out of style

Taylor Swift really knows how to keep cruising. On Wednesday she announced that her next rerecorded album will be 1989, on the sixth L.A show of the Era’s tour at SoFi Stadium.

The new rerecording comes after Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version)- in an effort to own the original masters of her own albums after she spoke publicly about cutting ties with her own record label when they sold it to Scooter Braun.

Swift said the album will be released internationally on October 27, calling it a dream to own her music:

“Since I was a teenager, I wanted to own my music and the way to do it was to re-record my albums and call them Taylor’s Version. And the way that you have embraced that, the way that you have celebrated that, you really decided that it was your fight, too, and that you were 100% behind me and that if I cared about it, you cared about it,” the ‘Anti-Hero’ singer. “I will never stop thanking you for that. It was so generous. And so now here we are at the last night of the US leg of the Eras Tour in the eighth month of the year, on the ninth day of the month.”

“There’s something that I’ve been planning for a really, really long time… and I think instead of just like telling you about it, I think I’ll just sort of show you,” and Swift gestured to the screen which showed the album artwork for 1989, along with the release date.

Along with a post on her social media account, Swift called this her ‘FAVOURITE re-record’ and said that the 5 From The Vault tracks are ‘insane’.

Released in 2014, the album featured critically acclaimed tracks like ‘Blank Space’, ‘Style’ and ‘Wildest Dreams’, and had gone on to win Swift’s second Album of the year award at the Grammy’s.

‘Verbally abused, poured alcohol on children’: Angelina Jolie makes shocking revelations about Brad Pitt

Amidst the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt controversy, alleged photos of Jolie’s bruises surfaced on the net. Now Angelina has filed court papers accusing Pitt of drunkenly attacking her and their children during a private plane flight, prompting her to file for divorce.

In a lawsuit over a French winery that the stars bought, The Salt star mentioned that grabbed her by the head and attacked two of their children on the 2016 trip.

Pitt also verbally abused and poured alcohol on his family during the flight from France to Los Angeles, she said.

Brad denied these allegations. Jolie’s claim of abusive behaviour by Pitt on the 14 September 2016 flight has emerged in previous court papers, including the Oscar-winning former couple’s divorce settlement.

The incident was investigated by the FBI in 2016. Authorities decided not to press charges.

But new details were alleged in Tuesday’s filing in Los Angeles by Jolie’s legal team. It is part of an ongoing lawsuit over Chateau Miraval SA, a home and vineyard in the south of France that the former Hollywood couple acquired together.

Pitt argues that he and his former wife had agreed not to sell their stakes in the venue without the permission of the other.

Jolie disputes this and blames Pitt for ending negotiations over purchasing her shares of the property.

The French estate, seen in 2008

Her cross-complaint on Tuesday says the actor was physically and emotionally abusive towards her and their six children – aged 8 to 15 at the time – during the private plane flight.

Her lawyers allege the Fight Club star began shouting, accusing her of being “too deferential to the children”.

Shortly into the flight, Pitt “pulled her into the bathroom” in the back of the plane, says the lawsuit.

“Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall,” the filing adds.

Brad Pitt didn't join Angelina Jolie to drop son off at college

“Pitt then punched the ceiling of the plane numerous times, prompting Jolie to leave the bathroom.”

After one child verbally intervened, Pitt “lunged at his own child”, says the filing.

Jolie then “grabbed him from behind to stop him”, according to the court papers.

“To get Jolie off his back, Pitt threw himself backward into the airplane’s seats injuring Jolie’s back and elbow,” the legal filing continues.

“The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face.”

Jolie’s lawyers say she and her children “sat still and silent under blankets” for the remainder of the flight.

Angelina Jolie and kids united amid Brad Pitt custody fight

“Pitt periodically emerged from the back of the plane to yell and swear at them. At one point, he poured beer on Jolie; at another, he poured beer and red wine on the children,” says the filing.

A source close to the actor told the BBC that Jolie’s claims were false.

“She continues to rehash, revise and reimagine her description of an event that happened six years ago by adding completely untrue information each time she fails to get what she wants,” said the source. “Her story is constantly evolving.”

Last year, a judge awarded joint custody of the children to both parents.

The Miraval estate is located in the village of Correns in south-eastern France, and was bought by the couple for around €25m (£21.3m; $25m) in 2008.
