  • Shadab Khan to represent Manchester Originals in The Hundred league

    Pakistan’s T20I vice-captain, Shadab Khan, will be seen in action in the upcoming Hundred tournament in England this year.

    According to a sports journalist, the star all-rounder has been picked in the Hundred draft by Manchester Originals.

    Other big overseas names drafted for the Originals include Kagiso Rabada and Nicholas Pooran.

    Other than these, Harry Gurney, Jamie Overton, Tom Lammonby, Steven Finn, Colin Ackermann, Richard Gleeson, and Tom Hartley are the other players picked by the franchise.

    The inaugural Hundred tournament is scheduled later this year. It is pertinent to mention here that the 8-team tournament was to take place in 2020, however, it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation across the world.

    The teams includes Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers, Birmingham Phoenix, Trent rockets, Welsh Fire, London Spirit, Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave.

    The opening match of the tournament will take place on July 22 between the Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals at the Oval in London.

    Meanwhile, it is reported that the Pakistani skipper, Babar Azam is among the players in the highest reserve price bracket. While Shaheen Shah Afridi will also be playing in the tournament.

    The format of the game is:

    • 100 balls per innings
    • A change of ends after 10 balls
    • Bowlers deliver either five or 10 consecutive balls
    • Each bowler can deliver a maximum of 20 balls per game
    • Each bowling side gets a strategic time-out of up to two and a half minutes
    • A 25-ball powerplay start for each team
    • Two fielders are allowed outside the initial 30-yard circle during the powerplay
    • Teams will be able to call time-outs, as has been the case in the IPL since 2009
    • A simplified scoreboard is also proposed

    Asim Azhar has shared that if he wasn’t a singer, he would have been a cricketer.

    Sharing a video of himself while batting, Asim said:“Agar mai singer nahi hota tou…shayad cricketer hota.”

    Later, sharing the post on his Instagram stories, Asim wrote: “PCB stop ignoring this young, deserving talent.”

    Meanwhile, Shadab Khan and Azam Khan were concerned about Asim’s revelation, with Shadab asking if “this batsman is available for PSL” and Khan asking Azhar to stop stealing his job.

    However, Azhar Ali gave Asim’s batting a thumbs up.

    Given his batting technique, we have to admit that Asim ain’t lying – the Tum Tum star does have the right moves for the field.

  • Shadab to lead 15-member squad for first T20I against NZ

    The Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday announced the 15-member squad that will play the first T20 against New Zealand on December 18 (Friday).

    As per details, the team includes Shadab (C), Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Hussain Talat, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Rizwan, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Wahab Riaz.

    Shadab will lead the side in absence of captain Babar Azam who has been ruled out of T20 series due to fractured thumb. The batsman had suffered the injury during a throw-down session, following which he was taken to a local hospital where X-rays confirmed the fracture. Babar will be unable to attend nets for, at least, 12 days, meaning he will not be available for the 18, 20 and 22 December T20Is to be played in Auckland, Hamilton and Napier, respectively.

    “His absence in the side will be surely felt,” said Shadab while announcing the squad.

    “However, it will provide an opportunity for new players to step up and showcase their talent,” he added.

    Shadab further said: “The team should be ready to show an aggressive performance like Babar.”

    Earlier, the squad took part in a full three-hour training session.

    The Pakistan cricket team had a rocky beginning in New Zealand with eight members of the squad testing positive for coronavirus as the team underwent quarantine in Christchurch.

    Pakistan and New Zealand will play three T20Is on December 18, 20 and 22 in Auckland, Hamilton and Napier, respectively. The Pakistan cricket team will also play two test matches against New Zealand on December 26 and January 3.

    Three Pakistani cricket players test positive for COVID-19

    The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that three players – Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, and Shadab Khan – have tested positive for COVID-19.

    The board said that the the players had shown no symptoms until they were tested in Rawalpindi on Sunday ahead of the Pakistan men’s national cricket team’s tour to England.

    According to a press release, the PCB medical panel is in contact with the three who have been advised to immediately go into self-isolation.

    Imad Wasim and Usman Shinwari, who were also screened for the virus in Rawalpindi, tested negative and will travel to Lahore on 24 June.

    The statement further added that “other players and team officials, barring Cliffe Deacon, Shoaib Malik and Waqar Younis, underwent tests at their respective centres in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar on Monday.”

    Their results will be announced as soon as they are received.

    “Until then, the PCB will not make any further comment,” added the statement.

    Meanwhile, PCB on June 12, had announced a 29-player squad for three Tests and three T20Is against England to be played in August-September.

    “An extended squad, including white-ball specialists, is being sent to England as the players, in accordance with series SOPs in the wake of COVID-19, will remain in England from start to finish,” stated a press release.

    According to details, the Pakistan Cricket Team is scheduled to depart on June 28 for Manchester, before driving to Derbyshire for their 14-day quarantine period during which they will be allowed to train and practice. Apart from training and practicing, there will be intra-squad matches to compensate for the lack of practice matches due to non-availability of local teams as the ECB is yet to commence its domestic season.

    Shadab declared fit; to play World Cup

    Leg-spinner Shadab Khan has been declared fit to play the forthcoming World Cup after latest test revealed zero viral load in his blood.

    According to a press release issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Khan will leave for London on May 16, where he will meet Dr Patrick Kennedy on May 17, before joining the national team in Briston on May 20.

    His appearance in warm-up matches against Afghanistan and Bangladesh, however, will be subjected to team management’s decision and his fitness.

    Shadab himself also shared the news on his Twitter account.

    Khan had earlier been ruled out of the ongoing One Day International (ODI) series against England due to illness. “Tests revealed a virus that will require treatment and rest for, at least, four weeks,” PCB had said in a statement.
