Shahid Afridi deletes tweet supporting Uyghur Muslims in China

Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has deleted his tweet in which he implored Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan to speak up against China’s persecution of the minority.

Afirid had on Sunday posted a tweet in which he wrote, “Hearing of atrocities committed against the Uighur Muslims is heartbreaking. I request Imran Khan to speak up against this; talk of uniting the Muslim ummah includes our brothers & sisters in China too”.

The cricket star in his tweet also requested the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan to address the issue.

China has been facing criticism for detaining around one million Uighurs and other Muslims in internment camps in Xinjiang. The activists in Uighur had claimed last month that they have documented nearly 500 camps and prisons run by the country to detain members of the ethnic group.

Moreover, according to Samaa, a Washington-based group, East Turkistan National Awakening Movement gave the geographic coordinates of 182 suspected “concentration camps” where Uighurs are allegedly pressured to renounce their culture.

The organisation after researching images from Google Earth, said it also spotted 209 suspected prisons and 74 suspected labor camps in the country.

Chinese foreign ministry, however, has denied these allegation, terming them “baseless.”

Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has urged Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan to “speak up” for Uighur Muslims in China and requested the Chinese government to give “humane” and “just” treatment to Muslims.

He also requested the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan to address the issue.

Pakistan’s former all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi has said that the cricket team’s pace bowling is not competitive enough to compete against Australia at their home ground, ARY News reported.

According to the details, all-rounder while talking to the media said, “Our team has taken some very young pacers in Australia. I think these bowlers can’t get rid of Australian batsmen especially at their home conditions”.

He also said, “I will only talk about what I think and in my opinion pace works in Australia and Pakistan’s team management would have added a couple of bowlers with good pace for this tough tour”.

It is important to mention here that the men in green are in Australia where they will play three T20Is and two Test matches against the Aussies.

Azhar Ali will lead the team as captain of the Test team while young Babar Azam will lead the team in shorter format. Team’s head coach and chief selector Misbahul Haq announced the squad which consists mostly of young faces.

Kasur: Shahid Afridi wants rapists hanged publically

In light of the return of child abuse and murder case in Kasur, former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has demanded that the rapists should be hanged publically to set an example for everyone.

The 44-year-old former athlete in a Twitter post wrote that that time had come to turn Pakistan into ‘Riyasat-e-Madina’, adding that it hurt him to see what was happening in Sindh and Punjab.

Earlier today, protests broke out across the country, a day after remains of three missing children were found. The kids had been raped and killed, police said.

With people recalling the horrifying story of Kasur’s minor Zainab, a protest was also held outside City Chunian police station, where people demanded the arrest of those behind the act and an end to such activities for once and for all.

  • Shehbaz Sharif was the best administrator ever: Shahid Afridi

Shehbaz Sharif was the best administrator ever: Shahid Afridi

Former cricketing star Shahid Afridi has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Shehbaz Sharif was the “best administrator ever”.

Speaking to a private media outlet, Afridi said that “no one could beat Shehbaz when it came to administrative capabilities”, when asked if incumbent Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar was better than his predecessor.

Last week, the hashtag “#PunjabMissesShehbazSharif” was among the ones trending on Twitter as several users praised the former Punjab chief executive for the actions he took during his tenure.

One user even tweeted that Punjab had “betrayed Shehbaz Sharif”.

Shehbaz was appointed Punjab CM for a second term after the PML-N’s victory in the province in the 2008 general elections. He was elected CM for a second consecutive term in 2013.

The PML-N chief was succeeded by Usman Buzdar of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after the 2018 general election.

  • ‘Amir confessed to spot-fixing after Afridi slapped him’

‘Amir confessed to spot-fixing after Afridi slapped him’

Mohammad Amir confessed to spot-fixing only after then ODI captain Shahid Afridi had slapped him, former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has claimed.

“He [Afridi] told me to leave the room and after a while, I heard the sound of a slap. Later, Amir told the whole truth,” Razzaq said while speaking to a private media outlet on Wednesday.

Spilling the beans on Pakistan’s ill-fated tour of England in 2010, a scandal that tarnished the image of Pakistan cricket, Razzaq also said that Salman Butt was involved in corruption much before the saga.

“Butt was deliberately getting out and playing dot balls much before the scandal broke out in England,” the former all-rounder said, also blaming the then PCB management for “bringing a bad name to Pakistan cricket”.

Butt, Amir and Muhammad Asif were the three players eventually banned for a minimum of five years in early 2011 by the ICC’s anti-corruption tribunal after they were first suspended in September 2010.

All three have now returned to playing cricket after completing their five-year bans. But only Amir has been picked for the national team and is currently competing in the World Cup.
