  • Shahid Afridi congratulates PM Shehbaz Sharif, Twitter goes boom

    Former Cricket Captain, Shahid Afridi has sent good wishes to newly-elected Prime Minister (PM), Shehbaz Sharif following the ouster of Former Prime Minister Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion on Sunday.

    Shahid Afridi penned down on Twitter, “Congratulations to Shahbaz Sharif on being elected the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan. I hope that he will be able to use his management skills to bring Pakistan out of the current economic and political crisis.”

    In another tweet, he said, “When the time comes to leave, whether it is right or sad. Leave must be accepted in a dignified manner. Accusations, conspiracies, and even defeats are part of the power game. In the pages of history, it is ultimately about moral standards, democracy, and the supremacy of the constitution. This is the balance of beauty.”

    Shehbaz Sharif secured 174 votes of Parliamentarians and was elected the new Prime Minister unopposed on Monday as Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ( PTI) boycotted the session. Later, all members of the PTI in the National Assembly resigned from their seats.

    However, Shahid Afridi’s tweets have been receiving mixed reactions from Pakistanis.

    One user said, “He’s your PM, not ours. He sold his soul to the devil, the most corrupt person on bail.”

  • Shahid Afridi speaks out in support of PM Imran Khan

    Former Captain of the Pakistan Cricket team, Shahid Afridi has spoken out in favour of Prime Minister Imran Khan and has expressed his thoughts on the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan. He took to Twitter on Tuesday to share his opinion about the current situation in the country.

    “It has been 74 years since Pakistan’s independence. For God’s sake, let at least one elected government complete its constitutional term.”

    He also stressed that “wrongdoings” that have been done in 74 years will slowly end with the passage of time.

    Afridi’s tweet came a few hours after PM Imran Khan’s address to the nation last night. The voting on the no-confidence motion is expected to be held on Sunday against PM Imran Khan. The majority of the allies of the government, which includes MQM, BAP, and independent candidates, have left and joined the Opposition to vote against PM Imran Khan.

    Australian cricket legend Shane Warne died on Friday at the age of 52.

    Warne’s management released a brief statement confirming the news. “Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived,” said the statement.

    “The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”

    Warne is regarded as one of the finest leg-spin bowlers of all time, bagging 708 Test wickets in a career that spanned from 1992 to 2007.

    Following the news of Shane Warne’s death, cricketers and fans from all over the world started expressing their grief and sadness over his demise.

    Pakistan captain Babar Azam, tweeted, “He literally inspired generations with his magical leg-spin. You’ll forever be missed.”

    Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi tweeted, “The game of cricket has lost what I consider a university of leg-spin bowling today. I was inspired by his bowling from the start of my career and it was always a privilege to play against him.”

    Pakistan’s former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar in a video message said, “It’s going to take a long time to get over this loss.”

    Australia opener David Warner grieved the loss of “two legends” — Warne and Marsh — saying that they had left too soon.

    “I’m lost for words, and this is extremely sad,” he tweeted.

    Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag said: “One of the greatest spinners, the man who made spin cool, superstar Shane Warne is no more.”

    West Indian cricketer Chris Gayle tweeted, “RIP LEGEND.”

    Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara also expressed disbelief, saying that he was “absolutely shocked and gutted” to hear about the death of a “legend and friend”.

    Waqar Younis shared similar sentiments and said it was a “very, very sad day for our cricket community. The biggest superstar of my generation [is] gone”.

    Many cricketers and fans wished the cricket superstar. Boom Boom Afridi thanked his fans, friends and former colleagues on social media by individually responding to their tweets.

    Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar also wished Afridi on Twitter and wrote, “Happy Birthday @SAfridiOfficial . Ab toh sahi wali bata day lala.”

    Afridi thanked his former teammate and said: “Thank you Shabi…Time is running brother ”

    Akhtar later deleted his tweet.

    According to ESPNcricinfo, Afridi revealed in his autobiography “Game Changer” that he was born in 1975. However, Afridi’s official date of birth is March 1, 1980.

    Shahid Afridi lauds Shaheen Afridi for ‘great display of captaincy’

    Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has lauded Lahore Qalandars’ skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi for a “great display of captaincy” after Qalandars reached the final of the seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

    On Friday, David Wiese’s last-over heroics at the Gaddafi Stadium against Islamabad United took Qalandars to a six-run victory in the second eliminator of the tournament. 

    The do-or-die match between the two sides was a treat to the eye as both the teams fought for the slot in the final till the last moment.

    Taking to Twitter, Boom Boom Afridi posted photos of him watching the match between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United along with his friends.

    “Today I witnessed one of the best matches in the PSL history. Congratulations Lahore Qalandars on a well-deserved win!”

    Afridi also hailed Shaheen’s captaincy throughout the PSL 7 and wished good luck to the finalists.

    “Great display of captaincy by Shaheen throughout the tournament. Good luck to both of the finalist teams,” he wrote.

    Defending champions Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars will lock horns on Sunday for PSL 7 title.

    Earlier in December, Afridi had said that Shaheen did not pay heed to his advice regarding accepting the leadership role.

    Afridi had said: “I had advised Shaheen to wait for a year or two before accepting captaincy so that he can focus more on his bowling. But since he is also an Afridi, he didn’t listen to me.”

    “Having said that, I’m happy that he has decided to accept this responsibility and I hope that he proves me wrong,” the former skipper had said.

    Sultan’s skipper Mohammad Rizwan also congratulated Shaheen for reaching the Final.

    “What a thriller it was! Enjoyed every second of it. Congratulations @iShaheenAfridi & @lahoreqalandars for finals. You put everything into this,” he wrote.

    While commenting on Shadab Khan, he added: “@76Shadabkhan & @IsbUnited, keep your head high. I know k aap Himmat nahi haare ga (I know you will not lose hope) and will come back stronger. #LevelHai #PSL7.”

    Multan Sultans’ pacer Shahnawaz Dahani’s brother Makhmoor Ali Dahani opened up about their mother’s admiration for cricket legend Shahid Afridi and how she compared her son with Afridi.

    In a tweet, Makhmoor said, “Our mother doesn’t know about anything about cricket, but if you ask her what does his son [Shahnawaz Dahani] do, her reply would be that my son plays like Afridi.” He further reveals that their mother only knows Afridi in cricket.

    The comment from Dahani’s mother came after former Pakistan cricket team captain Afridi lauded “champions” Multan Sultans for their outstanding performance against Lahore Qalandars in Play Off. While talking about Dahani, he wrote: “So pleased to see Dahani deliver to his incredible potential today just the way he performed last year.”

    Dahani responded by saying that “It’s always pleasing to receive an appreciation from a legend like you Lala!”

    Defending champions Multan Sultans has reached the final in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 7 for the second consecutive time.

    Before the Qualifier match, Afridi advised Dahani to focus on his game rather than wasting time on celebrations.

    Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has praised young Multan Sultans’ pacer Shahnawaz Dahani for his performance in the Qualifier match of Pakistan Super League (PSL). Sultans defeated Lahore Qalandars with 28 runs to reach the Final for the second consecutive time on Wednesday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

    Taking to Twitter, Afridi lauded “champions” Multan Sultans for their outstanding performance. While talking about Dahani, he wrote: “So pleased to see Dahani deliver to his incredible potential today just the way he performed last year.”

    Replying to Afridi, Dahani said: “It’s always pleasing to receive an appreciation from a legend like you Lala @SAfridiOfficial bhai. Thank you so much for your wishes for our team @MultanSultans & kind words for me.”

    Before the Qualifier match, Afridi had advised Dahani to focus on his game rather than wasting time on celebrations. “First you do something in life and then celebrate like that. It will have more impact then,” Afridi said on Samaa TV.

    Dahani picked up three crucial wickets of Harry Brook (13), Phil Salt (1) and Shaheen Shah Afridi (1) to finish with figures three of 19. He was given Player of the Match award for his outstanding figures.

    He also took a sublime catch of Samit Patel to bring the match closer into Sultans’ grasp.

    Now the Sultans will take Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi or Lahore Qalandars in the final of PSL 2022 on February 27.

    Meanwhile, former Pakistan cricketer and Pakistan cricket team coach Waqar Younis took to his Twitter to laud the young pacer.

    “Impossible to catch Dhani @ShahnawazDahani when he’s on the roll. Wonderful spell of bowling and exceptional energy on the field,” Waqar wrote.

    Waqar also congratulated Multan and Mohammad Rizwan for reaching the Final.

    Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has addressed a recent incident that happened in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi on Monday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

    PSL franchise Lahore Qalandars’ pacer Haris Rauf slapped his teammate Kamran Ghulam, who dropped a catch on his bowl to Zalmi batter Hazratullah Zazai.

    The veteran cricketer said that whenever he met Haris, he (Rauf) was the best. “Haris is a simple man and his bowling shows how aggressive he is,” Afridi said.

    He said: “Haris has not done a good thing and it should not have happened on TV. PSL is being watched all over the world.”

    The former captain further asserted that if certain things happen, then lessons should be learned from them and caution should be exercised in the future in “grooming academies”.

    He added that Haris will have to be very careful in the future as “his behaviour will not be tolerated in the future while the team management should have taken action on this move but it is wrong for the management to defend him.”

    In the same over, Fawad Ahmed caught Haris’ ball and Ghulam went towards Rauf for a hi-five and that was when Rauf slapped him in frustration. He, however, hugged him later.

    It was reported that Haris was given a warning by an on-field umpire and was not given any penalty for his behaviour during a match.
