Sultan of Swing Wasim Akram, who was recently vacationing in Turkey, says that Pakistan should take inspiration and model itself on Turkey.
“If Pakistan should model itself on any country, it should be Turkey,” said the former left-arm pacer who was vowed by the Turkish people’s “hospitality, food and their ability to welcome the world”.
“Pakistan has so many untapped resources, InshAllah we will get there one day,” added Akram in his tweet.

Wasim, his wife Shaniera and their daughter Aiyla have been having a great time on their first trip to Turkey. They have been keeping their fans updated with pictures and videos from there.
The former cricketer also referred to Istanbul as a “mesmerising city”.
Turkey appears to be Pakistanis favourite vacation spot this season. Several Pakistani celebrities including Komal Aziz Khan, Imran Abbas and Kinza Hashmi have also been spotted there.
Mahira Khan and Mehwish Hayat, among other celebrities have condemned the brutal gang-rape of a mother of two and have demanded for the mindset to be changed.
Mehwish Hayat, in a tweet said: “Scream all you want about ‘Public Hanging of Rapists’ – nothing will happen till the mindset changes.”
How come in Singapore women are safe to walk home alone even at 4am?Why can’t we have the same sense of security here?! Are we living in a civilised society or a jungle?Scream all you want abt #PublicHangingOfRapists -nothing will happen till the mindset changes!#motorwayincidenthttps://t.co/Mfl4h8bfcN
Similarly, sharing a quote by Manto, Mahira said: “Hang them! Kill them! Publicly shame them! – It won’t change a thing. The problem is so deeply ingrained within our society, so deep-rooted, that even the officer said: ‘She shouldn’t have left at that time. This is the way our society is’.”
“Why should we accept this mindset? Why should we question the victim yet again and not the those who commit the crime?” she questioned.

On Tuesday night, two robbers reportedly gang-raped a mother of two on the Motorway within Gujjarpura police’s jurisdiction. The woman, along with her two children, was driving to Gujranwala in her car when she was forced to stop at the Gujjarpura section of the Motorway after running out of fuel at around 1:30 am. She immediately called a relative and sent him her location. He asked her to also dial the Motorway Police helpline 130 but she was reportedly refused help.
In the meantime, two robbers approached the car, broke the window and took the woman and her children to nearby bushes where they raped her repeatedly in front of the children. They also snatched her purse that had cash around Rs100,000, one bracelet, car registration and three ATM cards.
The Gujjarpura police have registered a case, while the motorway police spokesperson said they had not been able to take action as the incident did not occur in the limits of Motorway Police.
The incident, followed by Lahore’s new Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Umar Sheikh’s comments have sparked outrage nationwide. According to details, the CCPO said: “I am shocked… you are a mother of three and the only driver late at night… [she] should have taken the GT [Grand Trunk] Road instead, which is densely populated.”
Sheikh went on to say that the woman should “at least have checked her fuel before taking the motorway”.
Humayun Saeed said that he was “shocked beyond belief and extremely distressed to learn about this incident.”
Shocked beyond belief and extremely distressed to learn about this incident https://t.co/R2kj6L3N9M
Ayesha Omar talked about how she didn’t even feel safe in her own country.
Why are men so shocked about what happened yesterday? Is the first time someone was raped and then blamed for it? This is the reality of our country. Woman are on their own. We are not safe on the streets, in markets, in our cars, in our homes or in our graves. #motorwayincident
Mansha Pasha and Hareem Farooq said that the victim is not to be blamed.
The first crime is committed by the rapist. The second by those who blame the woman. The third by the officials who do nothing. And the fourth by those who say nothing.
Adnan Siddiqui and Sarwat Gilani expressed their shock over the incident.
“My head hangs in shame. I am really sorry,” wrote Adnan.

“It’s heartbreaking, blood boiling and extremely sad to see this news,” said Sarwat.

Several celebrities including Feroze Khan, Mawra Hocane, Aijaz Aslam, Faysal Quraishi, Asim Azhar, Yumna Zaidi, Minal Khan, Sarah Khan and Ali Rehman Khan called for the public hanging of rapists.
Feroze urged Prime Minister Imran Khan to take swift action and not let down his voters.
– I have major hope in you … this is the time you can do it please I beg you it’s the little that needs attention the big will all fall in place it self. Please help the voiceless please help the weak please kill the monsters @ImranKhanPTI
– I will always count on your statement that Pakistan will be “Riasat e Madina” and if you don’t hang these monsters raping and killing children and women in the open nothing can ever be changed … just make one example. Public execution is what I demand @ImranKhanPTI
Cycling karti howi larki sey tharak ..aurat ka gang rape 5 saal ki bachi k sath ziyadti ..and the result is 0 …latkao ayese kutton ko chock pe had hogai hey
Until a strict action is taken May it be for corruption or rape this country ain’t going no where . #imrankhanPTI at least hang the rapists of little children for gods sake . What kind of riasat is this ?
Rape incidents unfortunately poori dunya me hotey hain but insaaf milta h speed trials hotey hain punishments milti hain unfortunately our slow and outdated Justice system gives confidence to these sick criminals, change the law !#PublicHangingOfRapists#motorwayincident
I remember while shooting ‘Verna’ I’d question Shoaib Saab, how is it possible that someone can walk into a park and pick up a girl and rape her in broad daylight. It sounds impossible. His response was “Hota Raha hai, ho sakta hai aur hota rahay ga” ♂️ #HangRapists
Meanwhile, Sanam Saeed, Shaniera Akram and Ushna Shah felt that hanging is ‘nothing’ and an easy way out for the criminals.
A ‘public hanging’ is nothing. It is still a quick death. Jo darinday pakrey jayein unko eisee khaufnaak aur aziatnaak mot doh, key unki misaal sey baaqi darindoN key khatarnak zehen mein aurat ki izzat aur bachoN ki masoomiyat cheennay ka khayal tak na aye. Urging our judiciary!
Why hang them when we can castrate them? Why let them go so easily when they can live with the pain, shame and guilt without their genitals? Why wait to make this the law till God forbid it happens too close to home? No counseling or rehabilitation needed here. #cuttheirweapon.
Because death is too good for them. They should live a long life feeling the same pain that they caused others. By public hanging we are only deterring the problem not fixing it.There needs to be better systems to protect our women & children & weed out the offenders from society https://t.co/bNOckeRvnI
Osman Khalid Butt had similar thoughts and called for the system to be fixed.
Clearly even capital punishment did to deter future criminals. This country, its elected officials, our law enforcement agencies need to do their job in protecting women, minorities, even children from such crimes.
To everyone here claiming I’m sympathizing with rapists, calm the fuck down. All I’m asking is we need to push to fix the system. Punish all criminals (can’t believe I have to say this), but FIX the system. Your bloodlust is not a long-term solution, it is no answer to crime.
With rains lashing Karachi, as many as 19 people died in various rain-related incidents in the port city on Thursday, taking the tally of deaths during the three-day monsoon spell in the city to 30.
Meteorological officials said downpours in August have shattered the 90-year-old record for the city. Some 484mm (19 inches) of rain has fallen this month so far, 130mm on Thursday alone, they said.
According to data released by the Met Office, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Faisal Base recorded 130 millimetres of rain while Nazimabad has recorded 105.6mm since Thursday morning. Mausamiyat received 74.3mm of rain, while Saadi Town recorded 72mm. About 98.5mm of rain was recorded in PAF Masroor Base, Surjani received 73mm while Kemari recorded 82.5mm.
Many major arteries witnessed severe traffic jams. Power was suspended in several areas as a precautionary measure, a K-Electric spokesperson said. Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Suhail Rajput urged people not to leave their homes during the spell which, according to a Met Office prediction, is expected to continue for another two days.
Videos and photos making rounds on social media showed submerged cars and motorcycles and water entering houses and buildings, wreaking havoc in the provincial capital.
Given the devastation in Karachi, several celebrities and notable personalities including Feroze Khan, Shahid Afridi, Fatima Bhutto, Ayesha Omar, Samina Peerzada and Ali Safina have lashed out at the Sindh Government for being incompetent and “destroying” the city.
Feroze expressed his outrage by hitting out at PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and demanding answers from him and his government.
– do you even know anything? What’s been up all these years in Sindh ? What’s your party been really doing handing out ajrak’s ?? Where did the tax go ? Zero infrastructure ?? My city and the people both are underwater Mr.Zardari. https://t.co/f4wlrn4zXS
When a Twitter user asked him to hold the PTI government accountable as well, Khan said that they “have literally just come in and I at least can’t expect them to over night work everything around”.
– they have literally just come in and I at least can’t expect them to over night work everything around and turn this place into Dubai ? PPP and MUSLIM LEAGUE (N) should be held responsible. https://t.co/AQqzu3fK4O
Former captain Shahid Afridi expressed his disappointment with the management and those in charge of the city.
“Who will save Karachi,” questioned the cricketer. It is pertinent to mention here that Afridi’s foundation Shahid Afridi Foundation has stepped up to help those affected by the flooding in the city.
#WhoWillSaveKarachihttps://t.co/2VpaUozk97
With the videos I’m seeing, the stories I’m hearing, its a National Emergency situation. People are homeless, stuck on the streets, or being swept away. Are there relief packages being prepared? Is help coming? When? @MuradAliShahPPP#SindhGovt#KarachiSinks#KarachiRain
#Karachi had an estimated GDP of $164 billion approximately 25% of the national GDP. The metropolitan city, The financial hub of #Pakistan dose not deserve to be treated like this. Sorry #Karachi corrupt politicians and negligence has brought you down to this #FixKarachi
Please Karachi walo, issay bhoolna mat!! I’ve seen the city move on because they’ve gotten to see this too often and they’ve learnt to move on but not this time. #KarachiRains

Not sure whether 2 laugh at our fate or cry: Karachi the metropolitan center of Pakistan still not equipped 2 store rainwater, water-shortages r part of daily life here & is still not equipped to drain monsoon rains which cause damage & claim lives every year. #KarachiSinks
An absolutely heartbreaking state of affairs! #Karachi needs immediate attention followed by urgent corrective action. The situation resulting from the absolute apathy of those in positions power must change. Enough of all the tall claims – time to walk the talk.
Meanwhile, other celebrities including Humayun Saeed, Wasim Akram, Shaniera Akram, Farhan Saeed, Ali Rehman Khan, Ali Zafar, Bilal Ashraf, Hira Mani and Maya Ali sent prayers for the city and those affected by the catastrophic rains.
Prayers for everyone’s safety and well-being. Please help anyone you can in whatever way possible in this extremely challenging situation. May Allah protect us all
Can’t believe the footage coming out of Karachi. Bypass’ filled with water, ship containers & cars floating down highways, back yards become pools & street turned into rivers: The city that has no water is now under water. My Prayers are with you Karachi
Dear All, it is extreme rain today, the Hub Dam has already overflow.Take special care, don’t take this rain as fun, Karachi is not capable to deal with it. Stay Indoors, Stay Safe, take care of all people around you ..ALLH pak sab ko apni amaan mey rakhay ameen
– I have been hearing nothing but absolutely gruesome accounts of people grappling with the Monsoon back home. Hope everyone is doing the best to keep safe, let this be the end of our trials and prayers for all! #StaySafeStayHome#KarachiNeedsAttention#KarachiRains
Seeing images & videos of my city drowning. So heartbreaking to see no one own Karachi. The city that gives so much, has lost when it needed us yet again. I pray for everybody in my city , please stay safe. Ya ALLAH Karachi ko iss mushkil waqt se bachayen, Aameen. #KarachiRains
Despite being at the receiving end of heavy trolling, Armeena Khan has rarely lost her cool, which is why it was odd when the actor sent out a series of tweets against Shaniera Akram.
The tweets have since then been deleted and it is unclear what prompted Armeena to send those out. In the tweets, Armeena accused Akram of gaslighting her and shared that she is unfollowing her after the latter did the same.
While Armeena did not say what exactly happened, it is likely that Armeena is referring to a debate that sparked between the twowhen Armeena opened up about her fear of lizards and Shaniera said that they are harmless beings which should be ignored.
At that time when a media outlet reported that Shaniera and Armeena were involved in a public spat, Armeena said that she loves Shaniera and admires her for her efforts.
“I love Shaniera and have admired her for her Karachi beach work,” Armeena had said.
Whatever the case may be, we hope they make up soon.
In a recent incident, Akram slammed a troll, who told her that Pakistan is “not for whites like her”. Syed Sharjeel Ahmad Qureshi, who identifies himself as a political analyst and blogger, replying to Akram’s tweet about the coronavirus pandemic said that in the eight years Akram has been in Pakistan, she has “not been able to read the word and become a Muslim and name a Muslim”.
In response to his remarks, Shaniera said that he has two pandemics to worry about: coronavirus and racism.
Following this, several people apologised to the nation’s ‘bhabhi‘ for Qureshi’s comments.
Wow, I’m so sorry about this. According to my pakistani and muslim-ness…..pakistan is open to people of all faiths and communities. We love you, Bhabi. ❤️❤️
I am sorry Shaniera that you have to face such hate here. Despite the tremendous love that you have for Pakistan. Ppl like him exist in most sociaties. Accept my apologies.
And he doesn’t belong to Pakistan. Because that’s not how we think. Thank you for caring about Pakistan Shaniera. Something many of us have never done before.
Just ignore him. He need education @iamshaniera you are our pride. A symbol of positivity, support and light . Keep smiling and trust that whole Pakistan is in love with you.
Following the backlash, Qureshi deleted the tweet.
Meanwhile, it is pertinent to mention here that this is what Shaniera’s pinned tweet is:
I was born and bred an Australian but I have come to live my life for and with the people of Pakistan. Pakistan has been good to me and plays a big part of who I am today. I love Australia and always will but I am with Pakistan all the way Pakistan ZINDABAD
After the pictures of the crowded marketplaces did the rounds on social media, celebrities are urging people to stay at home in order to stay safe from the virus.
Sanam Saeed, who was stranded in Thailand for a couple of weeks due to the virus, took to Twitter and questioned, “Do we really need to run to the markets for Eid shopping?”
Do we really need to run to the markets for eid shopping? Will we go back to our old ways without showing any change? Please ehtiyaat say bahir jaain. This is another crucial time since everyone is rushing out together at once. Maybe try celebrating eid differently this year?
Earlier, actor Ushna Shah and Shaniera Akram had also expressed disappointment at people for not taking the necessary precautionary measures.
Seeing footage of traffic blocked roads, congested streets and market places and hundreds of people without even a mask on. This country makes me want to cry
Chipkali (lizard) season is upon us. Every now and then we see a lizard scutter across the wall giving us mini heart attacks.
Over the weekend, two celebrities Sarwat Gillani and Armeena Khan shared experiences of their run-in with these animals, prompting Shaniera Akram to urge everyone not to hate on these ‘innocent lizards’.
Guys, Geckos are innocent lizards. They watch over us, eat our dengue mosquitoes and make malaria their dinner. Don’t hate them, they are our friends. Trust me, I’m from Australia, when there is a creature you have to worry about I will tell you
I don’t get it, Pakistanis have lived through terrorism, wide spread disease, horrific natural disasters, political unrest, famine and poverty. Yet you see one little Gecko and completely lose your shit! https://t.co/ze67BT20wB
Following Shaniera’s tweet, a leading media outlet reported that Shaniera and Armeena were involved in a public spat, Armeena said that she loves Shaniera and admires her for her efforts.
With a shortage of personal protective equipment threatening health care workers across the world and Pakistan, fashion designers are stepping up meet the growing demand. While internationally Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren have started making hazmat suits and masks for healthcare workers, locally Deepak Perwani and Asim Jofa have started manufacturing PPE for medical staff.
A host of celebrities have also stepped forward to help. Adnan Siddiqui recently shared a video of himself stitching a hazmat suit and thanking all health workers fighting against the virus on the frontlines. He also encouraged his followers to do the same.
“I just wanted to take a moment to thank all the people – health professionals as well as others – who are devoting their time, energy and resources in the fight against coronavirus,” wrote Adnan.
He further wrote, “It’s moments like these that truly test one’s character. Our national character is being tested but we are all being tested in ways small and big. It’s an ongoing struggle. I know everyone is fighting their own battles and I salute all of you for your resilience.”

Legendary British-Pakistani cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq recently got a makeover from his young daughter and the proud dad was not afraid to post a video of himself showing off his daughter’s makeup skills.
Saqlain’s daughter had not only used turquoise eyeshadow and pink lipstick on her dad but also made him into a redhead with a wig.
Showing off his look, Mushtaq in the video said, “She is a makeup artist. We are in quarantine. A couple of years back, she did my makeup and I put it up on Twitter and you guys really liked it. And today she forcefully said to me she wants to play with me again and she brought all my new get up and did my makeup and my new wig, my new get up. Are you happy? She is very happy and we all are very happy. Stay at home, stay safe, look beautiful and enjoy with your loved ones.”

Most Twitter users lauded Saqlain for being a good sport.
Meanwhile Shoaib Akhtar decided to poke fun at Mushtaq, as well as Wasim Akram who was also recently spotted sporting a wig.
“Look what Quarantine has done to some people. Sigh,” joked Akhtar.

However, our national bhabhi, Shaniera Akram was quick to hit back at Akhtar. Shaniera posted a funny picture of Akhtar, adding that this was taken before quarantine.

Earlier, Shaniera had also posted a video of Wasim getting his hair done by their daughter Aiyla.
Shaniera Akram, who has made quite a mark in Pakistan with her warm nature and social activism, recently took to Instagram to thank her fans for all the love they shower on her.
Sharing a video of herself attending a recent match of the Karachi Kings’ at the National Stadium in Karachi in which some of the spectators were calling her ‘bhabhi‘, Akram wrote, “Love hearing you call my name and love being your bhabhi”.
Shaniera also wrote that she felt blessed to be in Pakistan and thanked the crowd for the love.
“During PSL, it’s the crowd that really makes these games so fun that’s why it’s so sad to hear we can only watch from our TVs and phones but at times like this, it’s better to be safe than sorry,” she wrote. The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced that all remaining matches will take place behind closed doors due to the coronavirus outbreak.
“PSL really rocked this year and will continue too even if we are not watching all together from the ground we will still be together in spirit!! Let the games continue, stay safe, keep clean and healthy, and hope we all still have heaps of fun supporting our teams,” she added.
Even her personalized t-shirt had ‘bhabi‘ written on it.
