Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat has demanded Senator Shibli Faraz’s resignation, claiming it is the only way to liberate PTI from the “Qabza Mafia.”
Sher Afzal Marwat wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter): “If Shibli will resign, I promise, the party will rise as per the need of the hour”.
Marwat’s demand came after PTI leader Omar Ayub resigned as the party’s Secretary General on Thursday.
Marwat had refused to work with Shibli Faraz and Omar Ayub, alleging that they don’t allow him to meet incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The maverick PTI lawmaker is angry for multiple reasons, as the party revoked his nomination last month for the position of National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman.
PTI also removed Marwat from the party’s core and political committees for violating the party’s code of conduct.
Differences between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) continue to increase as senior leaders Asad Qaiser and Shibli Faraz had a war of words over the expulsion of Sher Afzal Marwat from PTI’s committee, Geo News reported.
During a meeting of the party’s political committee, Asad Qaiser remarked that Marwat’s ouster from PTI committees was an “injustice”.
Shibli Faraz questioned Qaiser who is he to speak on party policy issues. To this, Qaiser said: “You have joined the party for a few years. I have been with Imran Khan since 1995.”
“Who are you to talk to me like this? The way the political committee was used against Sher Afzal Marwat is an injustice,” Qaiser said after which the political committee members pressured Faraz to apologise.
On May 9, PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan said that Marwat has been expelled from the party’s core and political committees on Imran Khan’s instructions.
He was expelled after Marwat had publicly criticised the PTI top leadership.
Internal differences with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) reached a head on Saturday when the party issued a show cause notice to its crowd-favourite leader, Sher Afzal Marwat.
PTI’s Secretary General Omar Ayub issued the notice to Marwat for going against the party’s discipline and making irresponsible statements, emphasising that his words had damaged the party’s reputation. Marwat now has three days to submit his answer. “If your reply is unsatisfactory or you do not respond, further action will be taken as per party policy and rules,” said the notice.
Marwat, known for his blunt and controversial remarks, has clashed with several party leaders, including Taimur Khan Jhagra, Omar Ayub, and Shibli Faraz, keeping him in the limelight since Imran Khan’s incarceration. On May 9, Omar Ayub said PTI removed Sher Afzal Marwat from the core and political committees of the party under the directions of Imran Khan. “The PTI founder said Marwat tried to damage his personal relations with the kingdom [of Saudi Arabia] as he has excellent ties with Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman,” Ayub said.
An Islamabad court has issued perpetual arrest orders for nine Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leaders due to their alleged involvement in a violent incident outside the Federal Judicial Complex.
The list includes prominent figures like Hammad Azhar, Shibli Faraz, Murad Saeed, Omar Ayub Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur, Ali Nawaz Awan, Hassaan Khan Niazi, Umer Sultan, and Muhammad Asim.
The decision came out after the suspects failed to appear despite summons, prompting their declaration as proclaimed offenders.
The incident dates back to March, during a hearing of the Toshakhana case when clashes broke out between the police and PTI workers.
Both sides resorted to aggressive measures, with PTI supporters reportedly using rocks and petrol bombs, leading to injuries sustained by 25 officials.
Several cases were filed against Imran Khan and other PTI leaders, with Parvez Elahi also being arrested in connection with the case.
Elahi’s judicial remand was extended till November 21 following his initial arrest in September, despite a temporary release granted earlier by the Islamabad High Court.
The court has urged the authorities to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.
In a separate case, the district and sessions courts, Islamabad, have once again issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for PTI leader Shahbaz Gill in a sedition case.
Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra heard the case on Wednesday and directed the SHO to arrest the proclaimed offender and produce him before the court.
The court ended the trial of co-accused Ammad Yousaf following the Supreme Court’s direction.
This recent issuance of arrest warrants stems from the PTI leader’s continued absence from court proceedings, leading an additional district and sessions court in Islamabad to declare him an absconder on July 26, 2023.
Despite multiple summonses, Shahbaz Gill had failed to appear before the court, prompting Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra to issue arrest warrants. Furthermore, the court had instructed relevant authorities to post an absconder notice at Gill’s residence in Faisalabad.
This is the second instance of non-bailable arrest warrants being issued against Gill, with the first set being issued on June 7, 2023, in connection with the same case.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Social Media Activist Azhar Mashwani was picked up on Thursday, prompting party Chairman Imran Khan to condemn his arrest.
Blaming the authorities for abducting Mashwani, Imran Khan took to Twitter and wrote: “Enough is enough. Police in Punjab and Islamabad are breaking all laws with impunity as they target PTI. Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, on Tuesday, passed sexist comments about journalist Gharidah Farooqi, saying: “Woh mardon mei ghussay gi toh aisa hi hoga” (If she will enter into men’s sphere, then this is what will happen).
During a meeting with the delegation of the National Press Club and the Rawalpindi/Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ), Khan said that “Farooqi goes into the crowd and then says that she is being harassed”.
Along with these remarks, he stated that he will also ask his party workers to act in right manner.

On the same occasion, Khan alleged that Journalist Saleem Safi is a lifafa (biased) journalist.
When asked by a journalist that why he [Imran Khan] called journalists lifafa, he responded by saying that he has never called any journalist lifafa except for Saleem Safi.
Responding to this, Safi challenged Imran Khan to prove himself. The senior journalist said in a statement that a committee consisting of PTI’s Murad Saeed, Shibli Faraz and Fawad Chaudhry should be formed under the leadership of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) president to investigate this matter.
He said that if he is proved to be a liar, then the punishment of a thief will be his punishment and he will leave journalism and if Imran Khan is proved to be a liar, then he will have to leave politics and apologise.

Chairman of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Noor Alam Khan ordered that senior officers of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) declare their assets along with those of their spouses, children, siblings, and parents within a month’s time, in a meeting held on July 7, 2022. The meeting was presided over by the acting Chairman of NAB, Zahir Shah.
The directive ordered by the PAC chairman further required that details of perks, privileges, and employment terms of NAB officers also be declared publicly.
Former Minister of Science and Technology Shibli Faraz opposed the directive and pointed to NAB’s ongoing inquiry against Khan. Faraz was of the view that chairman PAC should not have chaired the meeting altogether because there is an ongoing inquiry against him by the anti-graft watchdog.
In the meeting, PAC chairman inquired whether the case against him under deliberation by NAB had concluded. He added that if the case is still ongoing, he will not preside over the meeting. The NAB chairman responded that the inquiry had not yet concluded. He went on to say that if Khan is found innocent, he will be receiving an apology letter. He further added that all those found innocent in the future will receive a letter of apology.
PAC chairman, however, remained in the meeting till the end.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi while speaking on Geo News programme, ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khandaza Kay Sath’, said, “I know 22 members of the National Assembly who don’t want to remain part of the incumbent government anymore.”
Abbasi said that if those 22 people step aside, the government will lose its majority in the House.

Responding to Fawad Chaudhry’s claim that four PML-N leaders are “hell-bent on removing Nawaz Sharif from the party,” Abbasi said: “I am unable to understand Fawad’s statements as he is just trying to seek attention.”
He said that “no one desires the throne in PML-N”, adding that party leaders “just want the implementation of the Constitution in the country”.
“I never had the desire to become the prime minister,” Abbasi added.
The former premier said that the “government itself is walking with the help of crutches and can’t stand without it even for a single day”.
On being asked why did the four names turn up, Abbasi said the government is lying.
On the other hand, responding to Abbasi’s comments during the show, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz said that “without taking any names, we had just hinted at four senior leaders of PML-N, and now people can guess themselves who we were referring to.”

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz said that the experiment to plant bhang (edible mixture made from the buds, leaves, and flowers of the female cannabis, or marijuana, plant) has remained successful as it helps in producing medicines to deal with cancer, body pain, and other illnesses, reports ARY News.
He shared that other than the medicine industry, the bhang plant is also used extensively in the textile and paper industries. “Medicines produced from CBD [cannabis] oil could also be exported,” he said.
“A seed of bhang is worth US$12 in the international market and encouraging its lawful export will help in curbing its illicit trade,” Shibli Faraz said and added that bhang plantation is 10 times more fruitful than profits from the sale of drugs.
He shared that the CBD or cannabis oil is being sold at Rs10,000 per litre in the international market. The minister said that bhang could prove to be an alternate crop for cotton and would help the country in earning foreign exchange.
Shibli also informed that plans to establish an authority to improve bhang plantation were in process, adding that foreign investors have also shown their interest in its plantation.
The minister further announced to improve ginger plantation in order to shun its imports.
In the first phase of local government elections held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Opposition parties have had a combined lead over the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), according to unofficial results.
Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz said that the ruling party lost because “PTI was contesting against PTI”.
“If it was not PTI vs PTI, we would have really won the elections. The results are still being announced. It was a crucial election but our performance has been really good,” said Shibli.
The PTI is ahead on 15 seats followed by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) 13, Awami National Party (ANP) nine, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) two, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) one each — which totals up to 26 seats for the Opposition parties as per unofficial and unverified results. In all, 12.668 million voters — seven million male and five and a half million female — were registered for the polls in the 17 KP districts.
