  • Maryam Nafees will not work with Khalil Ur- Rehman Qamar

Maryam Nafees will not work with Khalil Ur- Rehman Qamar

Actress Maryam Nafees recently took the decision of not working with controversial script writer Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar. “I won’t work on any TV drama written by Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar,” she said, explaining her choice on a TV show. “It’s because of different beliefs, not because Qamar isn’t talented. I wants to work on projects that match my values.”

She’s worried about how Qamar shows women in his dramas, even though she respects his skills. Nafees wants to support women’s rights and feels she can’t do that by working with him.

Qamar has often picked fights with actresses and female analysts over his misogynistic comments. Actress and former supermodel Iffat Umar recently refused to engage with him, criticizing Qamar for his narrow-mindedness and bitterness. This confrontation reflects mounting industry frustration with Qamar’s controversial remarks and treatment of women. In a TV appearance, Qamar dismissed Miss Pakistan 2022 winner Sana Hayat’s experiences, sparking further debate about gender equality and respect in the entertainment industry. Women are hesitant to work with him because they believe his beliefs and comments harm women’s progress and representation in the industry.

Ansari’s comment is a reminder about violence and ignorance. While some might see her shawl gesture as bold, she’s known for her funny jokes and straight talk.

  • ARY UK apologises to Ishaq Dar on air over fabricated allegations

ARY UK apologises to Ishaq Dar on air over fabricated allegations

A private channel New Vision TV, the broadcaster of ARY UK, has issued an apology on air to the former finance minister Ishaq Dar, who is currently residing in London.

In an apology aired by ARY UK, the channel said, “We unconditionally apologise to Ishaq Dar for the significant distress, upset and embarrassment which these broadcasts have caused him.”

“Dar never managed the Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU), never impeded its work, nor did he do anything to protect anybody in any case including the alleged Chaudhry Sugar Mills case”.

According to Dawn, the defamatory remarks were made in two news shows which were aired in 2019. A transcript of the Special Minister Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior Shahzad Akbar’s claims on the show that Dar did not allow the FMU to function.  It was also alleged that Dar had taken these steps to protect individuals involved in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills money laundering case.

Sources told Dawn that Dar issued proceedings against the channel in July 2020 and later served a claim in the UK High Court. In 2021, ARY UK made an offer for amends — a procedure in which a defendant in an action for defamation may make a written offer to publish an apology and pay damages. Acceptance of such an offer terminates defamation proceedings and parties settle the matter between themselves.

Dar along with a restriction and an apology had claimed damages for libel of around 200,000 pounds.

In a statement shared with Dawn, the former minister said, “I have never been involved in corruption or any unlawful activity and never used any influence against any institution. The allegations made by the pro-government media house and Shahzad Akbar were aimed at damaging my reputation but Allah SWT has been most kind and the TV channel has accepted in the UK judicial process that the allegations were fabricated, false and untrue. The TV channel has accepted that I was maligned and nothing wrong has been done by me.”

  • Subscribers begin to quit Netflix over ‘Messiah’ controversy

Subscribers have started quitting Netflix as the controversy surrounding an upcoming show, ‘Messiah’, intensifies ever since the streaming service provider launched its first trailer last week.

Messiah is the story of a case assigned to a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operative, Eve Geller, played by Michelle Monaghan. A Syrian man has grabbed eyeballs and headlines around the world by claiming that he is the promised Messiah. Geller has been tasked by the agency to crack the case and figure out whether the man is a con artist hell-bent on disturbing the status quo or if he really is what he claims to be.

Mehdi Dehbi from ‘London Has Fallen’ plays the character of the Messiah. He has plenty of miracles up his sleeves which win him a legion of followers across the globe. However, many Netflix users across the world have voiced their unhappiness over the plot of the show.

While some are afraid and think it is indicative of the times to come, others claim that the show is outright disrespectful towards their religious beliefs.

Islam, Christianity and other religions across the world have predicted the arrival of the antichrist, something the show seems to have caught on and based its plot around.

Earlier, people had been threatening to boycott the streaming service provider.
