    ‘We’re a colonised people’: Simi Raheal criticizes industry’s obsession with whitening injections

    In an interview with The Current, Simi Raheal shared her thoughts on the industry’s obsession with fair complexion. “We are such ‘colonised’ people; the entire industry has changed its colour with whitening injections, and you are asking me this question,” she commented.

    Many celebrities now have significantly different skin tones compared to when they first started their careers, highlighting a trend in the industry.

    When asked are why are we colonised,
    Raheal said, “Our society isn’t aware, despite getting an education. An education doesn’t just mean that you can read ABC. Education means expanding your thoughts, seeing other people, accepting them, and enjoying their diversity. Till the time we don’t learn this, we will remain colonized.”

    The veteran actress is currently starring in ‘Umro Ayyar’, now screening in cinemas.

    She further said, “I’m advising those with fewer followers to leave the industry. Despite having worked in this field for many years, I still don’t matter here, and the reason for this is that I don’t have many social media followers.”

    She complained, “Due to not getting work in showbiz because of fewer followers, I’m now considering either doing something big in life or starting vlogging.”

    Sara Chaudhry, former Pakistani model and TV actor, gained immense popularity for acting skills.However, Sara left the media industry in 2010 after a religious awakening, joining the ‘Al Huda’ institute for preaching. Now happily married with children, Sara reflected on her journey.

    Recently, Sara appeared on Hafiz Ahmed’s podcast, talking about her journey. “My parents were very into Islam. They focused on prayers and the Quran. My dad made sure I prayed daily, and my mom prayed regularly, even when she was young. We celebrated Ramazan with excitement. I was spiritual and prayed for guidance, wanting to be the person Allah wanted me to be. I found peace in Allah and being good.”

    She realized at one point that following Allah’s wishes brings true guidance. “Another incident that guided me was my young aunt’s death at 38. That’s when I chose to leave showbiz. It was a shock and made me rethink. Family restrictions also helped me spiritually. As Sara Chaudhry, I couldn’t hang out much with friends outside. These limits were good for me and helped me on my spiritual path. I didn’t get too involved in the modern side of the media industry.”

    Sara Chaudhry explained that she entered showbiz to help her parents have a better life, as she desired a home and basic necessities for them. Being an only child, she prayed for financial stability and siblings due to her parents’ past financial struggles from their early marriage. She recalled, “My father’s friend fetched me a few modelling assignments after which I properly pursued media as a career. Even as a star, I used to be with my parents all the time, so they protected me as well.”

    Ali Afzal Khan was a regular feature on our television screens, playing all sorts of roles. Then suddenly, the actor disappeared, and fans were left wondering what had happened. Khan has finally opened up about what transpired behind his departure from the industry.

    Ali has said that he was inspired by singer-turned-preacher, the late Junaid Jamshed, and bid farewell to the showbiz industry.

    Talking on a podcast, he said, “I worked in the industry for 20 to 22 years, and during my extensive career, I undertook numerous projects as both an actor and a host. During this time, Junaid Jamshed, who was a renowned Naat reciter and singer, and I, being an actor, often had frequent meetings.”

    He began to explore and understand the Holy Quran. However, due to some personal differences, he left hosting duties. “It was during this time that Junaid Jamshed inclined me towards religious preaching. In this period, I spent three days and then 40 days in seclusion, initiating the practice of regular prayer.”

    Stressing that it is not easy for an actor who is at the peak of his career to leave it, Khan said, “The decision was difficult for me too but I had made a commitment to myself eight to nine months before leaving showbiz, that I would quit and after that I stopped signing contracts.”

    He shared that he is still being offered different roles but he refuses them now.

    “But I am still willing to play a historical role, so if someone offers me such a role, I am ready.”

    Pakistani film actor Meera recently shared her take on superstar Mahira Khan’s craft in The Legend Of Maula Jatt. The veteran artist stated that Khan’s Punjabi in the film was “terrible”, while chatting with Fame Pakistan.

    Meera also added that she would have done a better job than the Raees star in the film.

    Earlier this year Meera claimed that the showbiz industry suffered a massive financial loss worth billions due to the “Dual Nikah” case against her.

    The Baaji actor, who is known for heaps of scandals delivered the statement during the hearing of the dual Nikah case at a local court in Lahore today.

    A local court conducted the hearing of the dual nikkah case against the Lollywood actor on Wednesday. The Inteha star appeared along with her counsel in the hearing.

    During the hearing, Meera broke into tears before the judge after approaching the rostrum.

    The actor told the judge that she was seeking justice for 10 years and was properly heard at the US court but justice was not delivered in Pakistan’s court.

    According to a report, after the Nazar actor started shouting in the courtroom, the judge Rai Ahmed Khan asked her to lower her voice otherwise get back to her seat.

    Later, the sessions court adjourned the hearing till October five and ordered the lawyers for arguments on the amended evidence in the case.

    While talking to the media, Meera said that a film’s shooting was being termed as her real Nikah. She claimed that the showbiz industry suffered a massive financial loss worth billion due to the case against her.

    It is pertinent to mention here that her alleged husband Atiq-ur-Rehman had accused Meera of entering into a Nikah with another person named Naveed when she was already married to him. This he said was a crime, as per law.

    Actor Yasra Rizvi is not happy with her sharp memory because she believes “having a poor memory in show business pays off.”

    Taking to Instagram, the Dil Na Umeed To Nahi actor shared a selfie along with a long note, saying: “Show Business is the kinda business where having a poor memory pays off. I however suffer from the ailment called not being able to forget. Occupational hazard! How do you write about or portray life when you don’t remember and register what you experienced or felt? Yourself or vicariously.”

    “Things that happen or how people behave in certain situations even if left in the past become a part of our eternal selves, making up the hows and whys of what we think today, the context! And context is everything, nothing exists in isolation,” she added.

    Appearing on a local talk show recently, the Malika-e-Aliya diva talked at length about her work ethics and criteria for selecting projects. When asked about what she looks for in a script, she stated, “To be honest, I don’t get offered many scripts maybe because people are a bit intimated/scared by me.”

    The Churails star also believes that her projected voice and serious expressions turn people away.

    Yasra welcomed her first born in May 2021 and named him Ibn e Adam.

    The actress shared her experience with two channels and she praised Geo TV, calling it “ghar Ki baat” and lauded Abdullah Kadwani’s 7th Sky Entertainment.

    Talking about another channel and a producer, Faryal said “There was one producer, who saw me on an event and called me and said that you need a stylist. Look at me, I mean do I need a stylist? I was working on my weight and dealing with a new body at that time.”

    “One day I showed up at a premiere at 2:30 at night, after the premiere, he saw me and texted me on Facebook, saying you know you’ve got potential but you need a stylist. I said, sir I am going through a process, I’m also getting to know what needs to be done. It was a new body for me as well.”

    “The same person called me to his office, to the other side of the world (Karachi City) and then he tells me that you’ve got behavioral issues and why people don’t want to work with you. I keep giving your name and they keep rejecting you. The sad part is that i believed that,” said Faryal.

    She further said: “After six years i decided that I don’t want it anymore, i’ll do whatever i like. Here no one knows the professional language and how to speak. I’ve also worked outside this country. They teach you how to communicate with people ad taking work from them, without hurting them or disrespecting them.”

    “They have no manners and no professionalism,” she added.

    “Now, all of them know me how I work. So, i don’t face anything like that anymore,” said Faryal.

    But the actress also said the main reason why a lot of young actors don’t speak out against harassment is the fear of losing work and getting blacklisted in the industry. Faryal did, however, mention that there are good producers and directors as well who treat actors with respect.
