    Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori is seemingly very impressed by the recent extravagant wedding event held by the richest family in India – The Ambanis – and expressed his desire to see such events in Pakistan as well.

    Tessori was of the view that the Ambani family’s lavish event brought ‘much fame’ for India in the world and he wanted to see similar occasions taking place in Pakistan which would attract high-profile guests from all over the globe.

    The extravagant event of Anant Ambani’s wedding became a global attraction which gathered the most powerful and wealthy individuals from around the world in India’s Gujarat state. Attendees included King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk and wife Jetsun Pema of Bhutan, American popstar Rihanna, daughter of former US president Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump, Bill Gates, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger, and BlackRock Chairman and CEO Larry Fink.

    Petroleum, gas reserves discovered in Sindh

    Mari Petroleum company has discovered new gas and oil reserves in Dharki town of Ghotki district in Sindh, reports Geo News.

    The new discovery will yield 2.5 million cubic feet of gas per day while 1040 barrels of crude oil will be obtained, says a statement issued by Mari Petrolem.

    Significant oil reserves were discovered in the well Shoal-1 of the Mari field. The work on Shoal-1 started on January 27, 2024. Mari Petroleum says the well was successfully drilled to a depth of 1,136 meters.

    Faheem Haider, Managing Director (MD) of Mari Petroleum, described the discovery as a remarkable achievement for the company’s scientists and engineers.

    Sheeraz Rasool Khaskheli, a teacher in Chambar, Tando Allahyar, went to school on his wedding day to collect exam papers from his students. He wore his wedding dress and took the papers before heading home for his wedding. A photo and video of him taking papers has become popular on social media.

    Sheeraz Rasool said it was important to take the exam papers even on his wedding day, showing his dedication to his job as a teacher.

    The Energy Department of the Sindh government is planning to draft a policy for the production of liquid gas from coal, stated the Deputy Director Sindh Coal Authority (SCA) Asif Mangi in an interview with WealkthPK.

    SCA consultant Dr Farid A Malik has also said that Thar coal was declared a subject for gasification in the international laboratory of South Africa and could save up to 500 million dollars in foreign exchange annually.

    As of now, Pakistan is highly dependent on imported energy resources. In terms of gas import, an energy system from Thar’s 175 billion tons of coal reserves could reduce the energy import bill by 50 percent.

    Coal gasification is a process that converts solid coal into a combustible gas, composed primarily of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, by adding an oxidizing agent (air, oxygen, water vapor).

    The SCA conducted a study to evaluate the probability of Thar coal for conversion to liquid and gas by sending samples of the indigenous coal to the South African Laboratory.

    The study revealed that Thar coal has high tar yields of 20 percent (air dried basis) and high CO2 reactivity, which were typical of lignite coal and suitable for gasification.

    Sindh CM blames past care-taker government for alarming crime rates

    Amidst increasing crime rates and deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has blamed the previous caretaker government, again, for the problem – a claim rejected by the ex-caretaker home minister Brig (retd) Haris Nawaz.

    The CM made the claim while speaking to media after visiting victims of a road accident while en route to the Shah Noorani shrine.

    The CM was of the opinion that the previous caretaker set-up had reshuffled the police department ahead of the February 9 general elections, worsening the law and order situation.

    “This reshuffle affected the entire policing system, from additional inspector generals (AIGs) to station house officers (SHOs). However, the government is taking strict measures to improve the overall law and order situation, including in Karachi, rural areas, and particularly in the katcha area,” said Shah.

    Shah emphasized that PPP has always done the best for Sindh and recalled Karachi’s 7th ranking as the world’s most dangerous city by International Crime Index in 2008 before their government came.

    “But we restored law and order after coming into power and when we left the government in 2023, the same city of Karachi had improved its ranking and was ranked 128th on the same Index,” he said.

    Responding to Shah’s claims, former caretaker home minister Brig (retd) Haris Nawaz rejected CM’s remarks and said, “The Sindh CM has his own point of view, but we approved postings of the officers with good reputation”.

    In a recent press talk, Sindh’s Inspector General of Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, stated that the police department has faced significant losses in personnel and resources battling dacoit gangs who possess more advanced weaponry.

    He, however, mentioned that the Sindh government is acquiring similar arms for the police force, with a shipment expected from Turkey in the next two weeks.

    Heat-wave coming in Punjab and Sindh

    The Meteorological Department has predicted that heat waves will hit the plains of Punjab and Sindh in coming days.

    Provincial Disaster Management Authority has cautioned that the plains of Punjab and Sindh will be effected by heat waves, especially big cities due to which there is a possibility of an increase in the intensity of heat this month.

    The spokesperson of the PDMA Punjab has said that the irrigation department has been informed about the situation.

    According to the spokesman, strong winds, dust storms, rain and hailstorms are also expected in April. There is a risk of flooding in rivers due to heavy rains in northern Punjab.

    In Sindh, heat intensity is likely to increase in most places.

    According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is likely to remain hot in most places in Sindh from April 7 to 9.

    Day temperatures in the upper and central areas of Sindh may reach 38 to 40 degrees celsius, while the temperature in lower Sindh is likely to be 36 to 38 degrees celsius.

    During April 7 to 9, temperature in Karachi can also reach 36 to 38 degrees celsius, says the Meteorological Department.

    Bakhtawar Bhutto calls Najam Sethi a fraudster

    Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, the daughter of President Asif Ali Zardari, has called analyst Najam Sethi a “fraudster” on X, formerly Twitter, after he talked about her sister Aseefa Bhutto Zardari’s unopposed win on NA 207.

    During an episode of his talk show on Samaa news, Najam Sethi went on to relate a story about Zulifqar Ali Bhutto and how he had his political opponents step down in 1977 elections because Bhutto wanted to win unopposed.

    Then Sethi claimed that a similar chain of events has taken place in the by-polls in which Aseefa Bhutto won unopposed.

    The seat was vacated by her father, Asif Ali Zardari, after he was elected as the president. A total of 11 individuals filed their nomination papers. Three withdrew their names from the race and seven nominations were rejected by the Returning Officer (RO).

    Sethi claimed that when the reason was asked it was said, “She’s a kid, it’s scorching outside so we thought let’s get her elected unopposed, she would’ve won anyways.”

    Bakhtawar Bhutto reacted furiously to a clip of the show, writing, “Actually our grandfather had him arrested for being a fraudster and clearly he’s still awfully bitter about it.”

    The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday postponed Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after opposition members filed a plea for postponement because of an issue with the provincial government over oath-taking of MPAs on reserved seats.

    Interestingly, polling is underway in the National Assembly, Punjab and Sindh assemblies.

    KP speaker Babar Saleem Swati did not comply with the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) recent order to administer the oath to the legislators-elect and filed a review petition in court on the eve of polling.

    An official from the ECP pointed out that elections were postponed in KPK because of a delay in oath-taking ceremonies of MPAs-elect, as per the PHC order.

    Sindh Home Minister Zia ul Hasan Lanjar has said that Karachi’s law and order situation is being “exaggerated”. In a press briefing held on Sunday, he said “Street crime exists in Karachi, however, it has been exaggerated in media.”

    On March 13, the provincial cabinet was informed that nearly 16,000 street crimes had been recorded in Karachi since January 2024. He termed street crime as “part of daily life.” Since January, 49 citizens have been killed resisting street crimes.

    The Minister showed sympathy with the families of those who lost their lives, stating that measures were being taken to end the wave in Karachi, including action against the station house officer (SHO) where crime would occur.

    Furthermore, he said that around 1,000 policemen would be sent to Kashmore District for an operation against the criminals in that area.
