Renowned actress Sonya Hussain has denied the existence of nepotism in Pakistan’s entertainment industry during her appearance on the Afterhour show with Ushna Shah.
“It is not necessary to have family ties to make a place in the industry. These are all excuses, you should do your work,” she claimed.
While she acknowledged favouritism in the industry, she thinks “there is no such thing as nepotism in the industry, or only fair colour is preferred, but one who knows how to work can make his place based on his work.”
Dismissing the complaints of most artists needing to get work or securing lead roles as groundless, she added, “People only make excuses that they are not getting work, jobs are given based on nepotism in the industry or only fair complexion is preferred.”
Hussyn emphasised that hard work pays off and advised the newcomers to avoid making excuses and focus on hard work.
Its not unusual for talented Pakistani actors to get noticed by Indian filmmakers. One such actor is Sonya Hussyn, who recently shared that she was offered projects from India.
In an interview with ‘Independent Urdu,’ Sonya talked about her career and who she would like to work with. She mentioned Ali Zafar as her favorite on-screen hero, saying he has a special charm.
“I never really thought about it, but when it comes to movies, I find Ali Zafar very charming. He has that charisma of a movie hero. There are many good actors, like Fawad Khan, who also have charm, but when it comes to acting, I would choose Ali Zafar,” she said.
But things got interesting when Sonya talked about her experiences with offers from the Indian film industry. She revealed that she was approached for three different projects. “I have received three film offers from India. One was a Shakespeare screen adaptation of Measure for Measure. The other was a sequel to some old Santosh Kumar film – I can’t recall its name,” she noted.
One offer, in particular, caught her attention—a film with the famous Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi. “For that one, I even had a meeting with the relevant people but then the exchange with India stopped altogether,” she explained, referring to the stop in collaborations between India and Pakistan after the Uri attack and the subsequent ban on Pakistani artists working in India.
It’s too early to know where ‘Aik Chubhan Si’ will go, but with Sonya Hussyn and Sami Khan on screen, there’s more to the story than meets the eye. Here’s why we’re giving this one a go.
The story is different from the usual stuff on screen. There’s no love story with our hero and heroine falling in love at first sight. This Pakistani drama is about post-marital (non-marital) bliss. Naila and Haroon are happily married, but we see a husband who’s not too happy to serve Naila’s family. However, the story’s subtle and relatable details keep us watching.
Naila insists on looking after her uncle because he raised her. Haroon agrees, but reluctantly, with no toxicity (yet) in his attitude. There’s curiosity about Maheen, played by Hira Khan, as her character seems to have more to reveal, especially in the final scene of the first episode. Is there a hint of mystery, thrill, or something else in the drama? The first episode sets the stage and keeps us intrigued to learn more.
As the drama unfolds quickly, we hope the story won’t fall into the trap of overly stretched plots and typical ‘other woman’ conspiracies. Sonya Hussyn and Sami Khan share great on-screen chemistry. If you’re a fan of this couple, then Aik Chubhan Si is a drama you should try. They appear comfortable on screen and make their characters believable and true to life. Their effortless interactions make the drama more enjoyable to watch.
Fahad Sheikh plays Moiz, Hira’s cousin, and his performance here is a step up from his past roles. Whether it’s the direction or Fahad’s acting, his character evokes sympathy, even in the first episode. We’re looking forward to more from him. Hira Khan’s character seems a bit toxic, but we hope she will prove to be more complex and interesting.
‘Aik Chubhan Si’ is written by Rukhsana Nigar and directed by Mohsin Talat. The cast features Sonya Hussyn, Sami Khan, Asma Abbas, Hira Khan, Fahad Sheikh, and others.
Sonya Hussyn has been in a lot of TV shows and movies and people love her acting.
The ‘Tich Button’ actress is currently starring in a show called ‘Akhara’ with Feroze Khan, and fans are loving the series.
But even though she’s doing so well in her career, Sonya doesn’t want to get married. She recently talked about marriage on a TV show hosted by Nadia Khan. “Everyone asks about my marriage. They say, ‘You’ve finished studying, you’re really successful, you even have your own house. So why aren’t you married?’ I feel like I don’t fit in with this generation. People don’t have good manners or respect for each other. They don’t know how to talk to girls or treat women well. They also don’t know how to respect older people. I can’t accept these things because I come from a different background. Now, I only feel inspired by people who have good qualities and treat others nicely.”
Sonya used to be married to gym owner Wasif Muhammad, but their marriage didn’t last long. Now that she’s flying high, we say she deserves all the time she wants before deciding upon marriage.
Actress Sonya Hussyn is setting up her career to be that of a thespian with the wide range of characters she has played on screen. In a post yesterday, she revealed that her next character, Murshid, is an addict, and debuted her look on Instagram.
The drama’s name is “Gangs of Kharasaan”
The actress also revealed that this character held a special place in her heart.
“Addicts are humans too!!!! Meet “ MURSHID Unveiling the first look of my new project, Gang of Kharasaan! After playing horain in saraab, Murshid is another character that holds a special place in my heart ”
Hussyn had previously played a boxer from Lyari in the film ‘Daadal’ who set out to avenge her sister’s honor by becoming a contract killer.
Since she debuted her look on Instagram, celebrities like Yumna Zaidi, Imran Ashraf Awan and Kinza Hashmi have showered praise on the actor’s commitment to completely alter her appearance to portray a character.
“The most stunning girl,” actress Ushna Shah wrote. “Always picking off track roles that show off her acting chops. Beautiful, brave, and badass. I am SO proud of you.”
Actor Sonya Hussyn recently shared that she has sent her film Tich Button‘s producer Urwa Hocane a legal notice due to a “breach in the contract” whereby she was not paid her contractual dues for the project.
In the legal notice, the Azaadi star’s legal team addressed the matter by reminding Urwa that she “entered into contractual relations” with their client. “Under express terms and conditions”, she agreed to pay Sonya a certain amount upon completion of the shooting, which began on February 2, 2020, and ended on June 5, the same year.
The notice states that even though Sonya performed her part of the contract “in exceptional circumstances” such as the outbreak of Covid-19, she was not paid her due “despite repeated requests and reminders” accounting for a “breach in the contract”.
It noted that after quite some time, “in stark convention and blatant violation of contract”, the Meri Shehzadi diva “fraudulently” attempted to pay Hussyn Rs500,000.
Hussyn returned that cheque and “unequivocally refuses to be a prey of [Urwa’s] fraudulent scheme,” according to the notice. Sonya is demanding the payment agreed upon in the contract which is “still outstanding”.
Additionally, she demanded Rs5 million for “general damages” on account of “distress, dismay, mental torture, humiliation and embarrassment” within 14 days of the receipt of the notice for the “undesirable and unwanted circumstances” created by Urwa.
Upon failure to comply with this, Sonya instructed her legal team to “institute civil and criminal legal provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code, 1860 for criminal breach of trust, cheating, fraud, and misrepresentation” and file a civil suit in court and seek recovery of payment, general damages and attachment of Urwa’s immoveable and moveable assets.
Urwa’s Response
Urwa has now addressed the matter in an interview “I am not aware that Sonya Hussyn has sent any notice to me, I mean I am just a call away, we have been shooting the film for so long which a lot of things might happen. We should speak to each other and find out, I am sure there should be some misunderstanding, we all are mature enough and can resolve issues, why sabotage a project like this? I am also worried about such a notice, it’s not like that, she’s been a team, and I know the process has become longer but we understand and will address this misunderstanding, maybe Sonya Hussyn would have called me.”
Farhan Saeed’s Reaction
While opening up about the absence of his co-stars Sonya Hussyn and Feroze Khan from the film’s promotions, Farhan Saeed said, “they are an integral part of the film, at the trailer launch, Sonya didn’t appear because she was a Toronto for awards, Feroze Khan was absent from promotions because he was in Saudi Arabia for the Umrah, I even said to Qasim, ‘we should ask Feroze to pray for film’s success, I wish they join us in in future promotion but they worked beautifully.”
Farhan retorted, “Maliha, problems are in every project. I can’t agree with the thing that a project doesn’t have any problem let me tell you every project has issues, especially in films, however, I would say that you should own the project wholeheartedly. If you ask me, there are zero regrets and hard feelings, every one has his own career choices and graphs.
Sonya’s Statement
In a recent interview with Hasan Choudary, she discussed her dispute with the Tich Button’s makers.
Talking about it Sonya said, “I think, everyone knows now why I’m missing from promotions of Tich Button, the thing is out already, the public knows why I’m not seen, payment dispute was the main issue, also, sometimes, your chemistry and vibe don’t match with some people and that’s why I’m distant.”
She further added, “I took Urwa’s name because Urwa was the only producer who approached me, she was the main face behind it, she was the one who signed the contract with me, that’s why I sent her a notice, I addressed Urwa specifically because I had a contract with her. I talked to all producers before sending the notice, it was last option to approach legally. However, on Ahsan’s show, I mistakenly said something but he created it a big thing.”
Actor Mikaal Zulfiqar recently opened up about his divorce and idea of remarriage for the first time in a recent interview.
During a recent outing at a digital talk show, the Diyar-e-Dil star broke the silence on his failed marriage, while he also clarified the chances of him going for remarriage in future.
Addressing the question about his marriage with his ex-wife, model Sara Bhatti, Zulfiqar responded, “In my marriage, I had certainly felt the pressure to clarify things with my wife. I would feel bad for her.”
“The nature of this work can lead to your spouse making assumptions even if there is no truth to them at all,” he added.
He also touched upon the idea of remarriage but elaborated that his work and daughters with his ex-partner are his current priority. “I am still scarred and scared but I am open to the idea of remarrying,” he told the show host. “I don’t about it all the time, though. I am very busy with work and I have my girls.” For those unversed, Mikaal Zulfiqar married model Sara Bhatti in 2012 after being engaged for two years. In 2017, the former couple announced their divorce publicly.
The ex-pair have two daughters together.
He announced his split in 2017 on Facebook: “Wanted to say this for a while. Finally found the courage to do so. Sad to announce, unfortunately my marriage of 6 years has ended. After a long separation and despite efforts from both ends, things could not be resolved, which has resulted in divorce.”
Now his ex-wife Sara Bhatti has reacted to this new in her Instagram stories. She termed Mikaal’s revelations to be false and claimed that she was a supportive spouse.
Sara also revealed that she has been slammed on social media over the last few years.
On the work front, Mikaal is currently being seen in ARY Digital’s Fraud and Geo’s Chauhraha.

Earlier this year when Shah uploaded some pictures of herself wearing a sky blue ensemble by Asim Jofa on Instagram. Some netizens found it a revealing dress and started giving hateful comments under the post.
Instead of the Baala star replying to their comments, she opted to turn off comments on her Instagram profile. She edited the caption under the post.
She wrote, “Apki trolling ke dar sey kaampein taang rahee hein so just going to keep the comments off.”
Designer Asim Jofa is famous for his extravagant photo-shoots in which his muses are mostly A-listers. Asim hosted a star-studded bash to launch his latest promotional campaign.

The campaign’s song is sung by Yashal Shahid, who is famous for her blockbuster OST Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay.
Actor Ushna Shah has slammed a troll who passed a derogatory comment for fellow A-list star Sonya Hussyn.
A netizen tagged Ushna and said: “You know ye ghar sai baaghi hui hai.”
Replying to the troll, the Balaa star said: “Haan meinay bhagaya thaa.”
The two leading ladies often uplift each other with supportive comments.
Ushna recently exposed a troll who publicly abused her on Instagram.
The Bashr-e-Momin star while sharing the screenshot of the abusive comment wrote, “Bilal Khokhar Sahab, bazari Zuban toh apki parvarish mein sikhayee gayee. Toh phir yeh ilfaz aap se Aur apki tarbiyat karne waali se wabasta hei.“
