‘If married actors say they don’t feel insecure, they are lying’: Hassan Ahmed, Sunita Marshall

Recently, Sunita Marshall and Hassan Ahmed talked about the difficulties that couples might have while managing their relationship in the entertainment industry. During an interview on ‘Life Green Hai,’ Hassan honestly shared that he had struggled with comparing his success to Sunita’s accomplishments at first.

Aijaz Aslam talked about how impressive it is for showbiz couples to stay together for over ten years. He said it’s especially true when actors get married and work together. Aijaz pointed out that insecurities can cause problems for married couples.

“Actually, to be honest,” said Hassan, “if two married actors say these things don’t affect them, they’re not telling the truth.” Then Sunita added, “But we’ve never argued about being in the same field, or not having time for each other, or if Hassan talks to someone I don’t like, and vice versa.”

Hassan kept talking, saying, “When Sunita started her career, she was already a top model. But I wasn’t even in the industry back then. When I joined, I thought I’d be a superstar too, but it doesn’t work like that. You have to work hard. Sometimes, jealousy and insecurity is born when one person works more than the other. I never let Sunita feel that way, but I felt it inside. That changed in the last few years.”

Sunita then said, “Being smart means knowing how to deal with such problems.” Hassan joked, “I wasn’t that smart, what can I say?” Sunita encouraged him, saying, “But you handled it really well.”

As Sunita and Hassan keep doing well on their own and as a couple, their fans in Pakistan love their story. They support each other a lot and are both really talented. This makes them a strong couple in the Pakistani entertainment world. In a world where people often judge success by awards and recognition, Sunita and Hassan show us that true happiness comes from inside and that love can overcome anything.

  • Pakistani media, stop obsessing over Sunita Marshall’s religion

Pakistani media, stop obsessing over Sunita Marshall’s religion

The country’s media has decided that the average citizen is not raging inflation but whether a fully grown woman has decided to convert from Christianity to Islam or not.

In an interview with Youtuber and journalist Maliha Rehman, actor Hassan Ahmed, Sunita Marshall’s husband, was asked about how he deals with the negative comments, especially regarding his marriage to the ‘Sar-e-rah’ actress. The actor responded that it is his deepest desire that his wife converts to Islam, but understands that these things do take time. He further went on to say that Sunita will only come towards Islam when she notices the positive inside him.

But newsflash for the two of you, Sunita isn’t special just because she ‘could’ convert to Islam. She’s a fully grown human being who can dress how she wants and follow what religion she chooses. It is shameful how this is a topic that needs a 10 minute long discussion.

The discussion arose just a few weeks after Sunita was questioned by controversial Youtuber Nadir Ali about her religious beliefs. She calmly handled the situation saying that it was her choice whether she chooses to remain a Christian or convert to Islam. But the fact remains, Sunita’s religion is not something to debate, and it’s shameful that her husband is commenting on personal matters in the public sphere.

We were incredibly happy to witness how a flood of celebrities and social media users applauded the ‘Khuda Aur Mohabbat’ actress for bravely handling Ali’s misogynist remarks, but it doesn’t mean she needs to be subjected to this kind of questioning time and time again. This is the Islamic Republic Of Pakistan, where under the law, people from all kinds of faiths are allowed to practice their religion without any fear.

It’s the year 2023, you have people leaving the country because they’re unable to make a decent living, so obsessing over whether Sunita Marshall will become a Muslim or not is irrelevant. Celebrity tabloids, please do better and let her live without feeling like her religion is in the spotlight all the time.

  • Sar-e-Rah empowers the way independent women inspire each other

Sar-e-Rah empowers the way independent women inspire each other

If the first episode of Sar-e-Rah was about the impact one woman makes when she stands up for herself, the next episode shows us how she can keep on inspiring women from different backgrounds to take a stand for themselves.

In this episode, our protagonist Rabia meets Dr Muzna, a woman who has longed for a child has kept her husband’s infertility a secret from the rest of their family. Muzna faces the burden of this secret because of the taunts her mother-in-law gives her for not being able to give the family a child, and because she decides to go back to her job and refuses to abandon her practice.

In this episode, Sar-e-Rah explores how empowered women who broke away from the shackles of patriarchy are able to recognize the burden society puts on women who chose alternative paths towards motherhood. In one scene, when a grandmother and her child scold Muzna in a cafe for bringing her newborn child along with her, Rabia takes a stand by telling them that Muzna did a noble thing by choosing to give shelter to a child that had been abandoned.

In the rest of the episode, we watch the two women find solace in one another as Muzna faces opposition from her husband and mother-in-law for choosing to adopt a baby with taunts telling her that bringing home another woman’s child won’t make her a mother, but Razia keeps reminding her that what she is doing is quite noble. Their wholesome bond remains steady as Rabia helps Muzna in facing her husband and the rest of the family, and also to search for the mother’s child.

At a time when triggering topics like domestic violence, child abuse and forced marriages are not treated with the sensitivity and depth they deserve, it is heartening that a show like Sar-e-Rah isn’t shying away from exploring such tabooed topics and reminding women that they can find the strength they needed in each other.

  • ‘Pinjra’ successfully highlights extremely important parenting lessons

‘Pinjra’ successfully highlights extremely important parenting lessons

Leading channel ARY Digital’s drama Pinjra is a heartbreaking tale of child abuse and neglect. It’s a story that offers multiple lessons to parents by showing two contrasting households.

One household is projected as a comparatively liberal and progressive home for children, where the mother listens and communicates openly, and the other is termed as a cage.

Pinjra just premiered its 1st episode last night and people are already taking about it - ARY Digital

Abhaan, belonging to the latter home is battling severe anxiety, depression, and distress due to the restricting rules instilled by his parents, Khadija (Hadiqa Kiani) and Javed (Omair Rana). In the latest episode, Abhaan takes up pills to rid himself of the pain in his life. Although he is still young, his anxiety and inability to meet his parent’s expectations lead him to consider suicide.

Parenting is a difficult job and everyone isn’t born with the right skills to know exactly how to be a “good” guardian. Narratives like Pinjra have brought out interesting pointers to consider while raising a child.

    Negative Impact Of Physical Abuse

Physical abuse can never have a good outcome: it leaves prominent scars on a child’s mind. Abhaan suffers from anxiety and has a great fear of his parents due to facing physical abuse at the hands of his father. Deep down, he knows that doing anything against his parents would result in another traumatic incident, therefore Abhaan tries his best to be the ideal kid like his brother, but ends up failing each time. What’s worse is that Abhaan would have never opted for suicide or drugs if he had a parent who would listen to him, instead of abusing him.

    Intense Restrictions Have More Disadvantages

Having suffocating restrictions creates an extremely toxic environment for people, and definitely, children who are forced to live under rules that don’t let them have any freedom in life. This often creates a place that offers more distress and worries. Like Abhaan, a child can also go to a darker space towards suicidal thoughts and drug addiction. Most boundaries are instilled by parents to garner more control in their household and protect their kids from the perils of society, but sometimes it can go really far and create the opposite effect.

    Child’s Choices Should Be Valued

Every child has their own likes and dislikes, and their voice counts. Their desires are valid and every parent must understand this before deciding to have a baby. Abhaan is an artistic child, different from all his siblings, and that’s his strong point. Many students aren’t good at academics but have different talents that can be nourished to make a career. Not every child needs to grow up to be a “doctor” or “engineer.” It’s a choice and should be treated as one by their parents too. Sadly, Abhaan’s parents don’t see this and unintentionally make their child suffer.

    Importance Of Mutual Respect

Your child won’t respect you if you won’t do the same for them. Javed and Khadija treat their children as an extension of their own desires. They want the “perfect” child, yet ironically aren’t the best parents for them. Therefore, parents need to treat their children as separate humans that should receive respect, love, and trust

Necessary To Value Child’s Mental health

Children suffer from mental disorders and troubled traumas as well. Like adults, their struggles are valid and in need of attention from a qualified professional. Abhaan deserves to visit counselors who can guide him to a better outlet for his miseries in life, but again his anxiety and depression are not taken seriously, resulting in a devastating outcome in the end. Parents should regard their child’s mental health with the same importance as their physical health, both are equally responsible for creating a child fit.
