Afghan Cricket Board upset over poor facilities at Indian stadium

The only Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand in Noida, India, has been delayed amid poor facilities, with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) criticising the venue.

The only Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was supposed to start yesterday, but the first day was wasted due to wet outfield and even though it did not rain all day in Noida, the toss could not take place on the first day.

The toss is also delayed on the second day of the Test match.

The drainage system in the Noida Stadium is poor, and there are no proper and modern facilities to cover the outfield. Standing water in the stadium could not be dried throughout the day.

The Afghan Board officials said, “There is a lot of confusion, we will not come to this Indian venue again. The players are also unhappy with the facilities here.”

The Test match is a part of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Test Championship.

Pakistan cricket team’s all-rounder batsman Iftikhar Ahmed said, “I performed at number four in domestic cricket. I want to play in the national team at the same number.”

Speaking to the media before a practice session in Faisalabad on Sunday, the all-rounder said, “When you perform well, you get better opportunities. Preparing for the red ball, I got a chance in just one inning. I am trying to come back to red ball cricket.”

“In ODI cricket, you must play by looking at the situation. Where power hitting is needed, I will do power hitting,” he added.

Pak-England Test likely to be relocated from Pakistan

The three-match Test series between Pakistan and England is likely to be shifted to the UAE or Sri Lanka.

Due to the construction work at the proposed grounds for the Test series, the schedule of the 3-Test series starting next month may change.

England is scheduled to play the first Test match in Multan on October 7, followed by matches in Karachi and Rawalpindi. However, due to the start of renovations before the Champions Trophy in 2025, playing on these grounds is impossible.

England coach Brendon McCullum commented on the Pakistan-England series in a conversation with journalists before the third test against Sri Lanka, saying, We do not know anything about what is happening in Pakistan. We can only choose a team once we know where we are playing. It will be perfect to know about this in the next few days; when we know, then we will meet so that, according to the conditions, we can build a good team against the rival team.”

On the other hand, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sources say the series is expected to be rescheduled next week. PCB is planning to conduct two tests in Rawalpindi and one test in Multan. Holding a Test series at any other venue would present logistical, operational, and financial challenges.

  • Can Pakistan qualify for World Test Championship?

Can Pakistan qualify for World Test Championship?

Pakistan cricket team’s chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) have darkened after Bangladesh whitewashed the national team in the two-match test series at home, but these are still some possibilities for Pakistan to qualify for the championship.

After losing against Bangladesh, Pakistan lost 24 crucial points in the WTC and was relegated to 8th place in the rankings.

In the World Test Championship cycle, under Shan Masood’s captaincy, the Pakistani team has won only two out of seven matches. Its WTC points total 19.05, which is better only than the West Indies.

To qualify for the finals of the WTC cycle, Pakistan will have to win the remaining three matches against England at their home ground, and also whitewash West Indies and South Africa.

Now, the Green Shirts have to win all seven remaining matches, after which their percentage of points will be 58.2. If Shan manages to do this, then the chances of playing in the finals will still not be possible but will remain bright.

India and Australia are at the top of the points table, while the national team will have to monitor the results of other teams.
