Hina Altaf expresses disappointment over morphed viral video, rubbishes miscarriage speculation

In an interview with BBC Urdu, actor Hina Altaf spoke about her prolonged absence from social media and how misconstrued narratives can be detrimental to an individual.

Recalling the controversy involving her husband Agha Ali in 2020, when Ali told her “never to get fat again”, the Dour star pointed out how it was just a private agreement between them as partners that was misunderstood on many levels.

“It was just a personal understanding between us as a couple that served as a motivation factor. I just said ‘Agha reminds me not to eat a lot’ casually but people took this too sensitively than expected. I strongly respect the fact that weight loss is not an easy journey for everyone. Not everyone has the time to hit the treadmill, run a few kilometers daily, or just do a quick 15-day course to lose a couple of pounds. Many people have different challenges and health problems in their path, so maintaining health definitely isn’t easy,” explained Altaf.

She then highlighted how the aforementioned incident served as a reminder to her to never openly share her views again. “I think people took our drawing room talk too seriously and compared our situation with their own. After this incident last year, I have learned that everything is not meant to be spoken on television,” noted the Agar actor.

Before concluding the conversation, Altaf mentioned how social media doesn’t really bother her anymore, except for the time someone made a doctored video on her. She said, “Looking at a few pictures online doesn’t make anyone know the whole truth behind someone’s life or relationship. However, one thing I really dislike is when people ask me about having children. Normally, I always respond that when God wills, it will happen. But my relatives once sent me a video that implied I have had two miscarriages and am currently pregnant. This video extremely hurt me. I have never said this, usually, I would have ignored it, but it made me really upset.”

Last year, Aagha and Hina shared on Waseem Badami’s show that they first met on an ARY Zindagi show that Hina hosted, however, they first got talking on an Eid show in which they were the hosts.

While Hina denied that the two fought, Aagha confirmed that the two had, in fact, had some disagreements. “I would say it was a small disagreement because it was hard to develop a comfort level since we had to host the show together for the first time,” he shared.

The two then shared just how unpredictable life is. They ended up sharing their life together when they couldn’t even share the stage when they first met!

“Sometimes we sit and talk about how unbelievable it is! I could’ve never thought that I’d end up with Aagha and vice-versa. But we’re blessed,” said Hina Altaf.

When and how did they decide to get married then? Aagha shared that their friendship blossomed went they were cast together in a serial. “The show’s name was apt because we were in fact lost, and perhaps we were meant to find the right way to each other’s hearts and that’s how we became friends through that project,” he said.

Aagha termed their marriage a blend of friendship and arranged marriage, thanks to Hina becoming great friends with his mom who pushed him to pursue her for marriage.

“I had told Aagha that I want to settle down and that I was looking forward to settling down soon, and Aagha took that seriously,” said Hina Altaf, adding, “Aagha’s younger brother also pushed us to get our nikkah done on Jumma tul wida, and his mother and my father also wanted it to happen as soon as possible so.”

  • Cricketer Yasir Shah declared innocent in rape case

Cricketer Yasir Shah declared innocent in rape case

Pakistan Test Cricketer Yasir Shah has been declared innocent and cleared from the rape case of a 14-year-old girl registered at Islamabad’s Shalimar police station after the complainent admitted that the cricketer’s name was wrongly added in the First Information Report (FIR).

As per details, the victim said Shah’s name was added to the FIR due to a misstatement.

The SHO Shalimar police station said that the cricketer has nothing to do with the assault case.

In December last year, the Islamabad police registered a case against Yasir for his alleged involvement in aiding the rape and harassment of a 14-year-old girl. The complainant alleged that Yasir’s friend, Farhanuddin, raped her at gunpoint and also filmed an obscene video of her.

“The national cricketer and his friend also threatened her to share the video on social media,” the FIR said.

She claimed that Yasir also warned her of embroiling her in a case if she approached the police. The FIR further stated that Yasir also used his influence to coerce the minor to marry his friend, Farhan.

Earlier on Monday, Shah’s friend escaped from the Islamabad’s district and sessions court after his pre-arrest bail application was rejected in the sexual assault case.

Later, the cricketer issued the statement on his social media saying: “The truth has been prevailed. Alhamdulillah! The harassnment case against me has been dismissed with the support and prayers of my fans. family and PCB”

He also stated that he dealt the case through the courts of law to expose the truth.

  • 2021: The year of records in Pakistani cricket

2021: The year of records in Pakistani cricket

The Pakistan cricket team is considered to be the most unpredictable team of all. The Men in Green have seen many ups and downs this year but the green shirts flourished with bright colours, making record breaking partnerships, personal and team records and many more. We have collected some major events that happened in cricket in Pakistan and how the year 2021 was for the Shaheens.

Our champions reshaped the face of T20I Cricket in 2021. Have a look at their phenomenal performance.

    PSL 6 Winners

Mohammad Rizwan, leading the Multan Sultans, won the sixth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2021. Sultans beat Peshawar Zalmi by 47 runs in the final to win their maiden trophy of the tournament in June, 2021. Rizwan replaced Shan Masood as the captain of the team after he was traded from the PSL franchise Karachi Kings.

Sultans started at the second leg of the PSL fifth on the points table, having lost four of their first five matches but led by their captain Rizwan, went on to win four of the next five to finish the league stage second. They then swatted the Islamabad United challenge in the first qualifier and lead themselves to the win in the final, a crowning glory in their magnificent UAE leg of the season.

    Pakistan beats India in T20WC

Pakistan made history by beating arch-rival India for the first time in a T20 World Cup match in October. The green shirts’ 10-wicket win ended a decades-long defeat streak that began in 1992. Pakistan had lost all 12 of their previous World Cup matches against India.

The two former champions clashed after more than two years in the 2021 T20 World Cup opening fixture at the Dubai International Stadium.

Pakistani openers Azam (68) and Mohammad Rizwan (79) produced a batting masterclass to chase down the 152-run target without losing a wicket, and finishing the game in the 18th over.

    Rizwan and Babar partnership

Babar and Rizwan made a formidable partnership for Pakistan at the top of the order. They scored a total of 6 century stands, which is the most by a batting pair in the history of T20Is. Out of these, 4 were in excess of 150 runs which is also the most for a batting pair in T20Is and came against the likes of England, India, South Africa, and West Indies.

The duo was magnificent for Pakistan throughout the 2021 T20 World Cup. They were influential as Pakistan defeated arch-rivals India for the first time in World Cup history. The batting pair scored an unbeaten knock of 152 runs and registered the highest opening stand in T20 World Cup history.

Babar and Rizwan’s opening partnerships were all the more impressive because of pressure situations. Out of their six century partnerships, three came while chasing a target. This also included 197 run stand against South Africa at Centurion.

The duo also became the first batting pair in history to score more than 1,000 runs in a year. They scored 1,380 runs at an average of 57.50 in 25 innings while batting together.

    Rizwan T20 Runs

Mohammad Rizwan rounded off a magnificent year in T20 cricket by becoming the first batter in the history of the format to cross 2,000 runs in a calendar year. The wicket-keeper batter scored 2,036 runs at an average of 56.55 and a strike rate of 132.03 in 45 innings he played in the year. Rizwan also became the highest run-scorer in T20Is in a calendar year as he became the first batter in history to cross 1,000 runs in T20Is. He scored 1,326 runs at an average of 73.66 and a strike rate of 134.89 in 26 innings.

The star wicket-keeper batter was Pakistan’s most influential player in all formats this year. Rizwan won a total of 6 player-of-the-series awards in 2021, equaling the record of most player-of-the-series awards held by Sachin Tendulkar since 1998. Rizwan bagged 4 player-of-the-series awards in T20Is and 2 in red-ball cricket.

    Record 20 T20I wins in a year

During the year, Pakistan played 29 matches in the shortest format and won 20 – the most by any team. They lost six while three ended with no result.

The Men in Green played seven bilateral T20 series, and won six – against South Africa, Zimbabwe, West Indies and Bangladesh. They only lost to England.

Pakistan also won all group matches in the T20 World Cup – against India, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Namibia and Scotland. They lost the semi-final against Australia in a thriller.

Babar number 1 T20 and ODI player

Babar Azam’s incredible 2021 has been capped off with a number1 T20I batting ranking.

Combining in an opening partnership of 158 with Mohammad Rizwan against the West Indies in Karachi to set up a 3-0 series win, Babar’s 79 from just 53 balls propelled him back to the top, overtaking Aiden Markram and Dawid Malan. He now sits number1 in both the men’s T20I and ODI rankings going into the final days of the year.

This was only the second time in history that a batter was ranked number one in both formats at the end of a year. Australian legend, Ricky Ponting, achieved the feat in 2005.

Babar Nominated for ODI Player of the Year Award

The Skipper of Pakistan is also nominated for the ODI Player of the Year award. He scored 405 runs in six matches in the outgoing year at an average of 67.50 with two centuries in the 50-over format.

Alongside Azam, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, Ireland’s Paul Stirling and South Africa’s Janneman Malan have been named as contenders for the award.

Rizwan Nominated for T20Player of the Year Award

The star batter is also nominated for the T20I Player of the Year award for his exceptional performances with the bat.

Alongside Rizwan, Jos Buttler, Wanindu Hasaranga and Mitchell Marsh are the four nominees for the Men’s T20 Cricketer of the Year Award.

    Two Consecutive Whitewash

The Pakistan cricket team had a great two series against Bangladesh and West Indies. First the green shirts beat Bangladesh with a 2-0 clean sweep in Test matches and 3-0 whitewash in T20Is and the national team later triumphed a T20I series at home against West Indies.

Meanwhile, led by the dynamic opening duo of Rizwan and Babar, Pakistan pulled off a record chase in the third and final T20 international to register a 3-0 series whitewash over the covid-hit West Indies team.

Pakistan beats India in U19 Asia Cup

Pakistan beat arch-rivals India by two wickets in a nail-biting match of the group stage of the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) Under-19s Asia Cup, with young stars Muhammad Shehzad and Zeeshan Zameer’s heroics leaving the Men In Blue surprised.

Skipper Qasim Akram put India to bat after winning the toss and restricted the Men In Blue to 237 in the 50-over match at the ICC Academy Ground.

Every time the Indian cricket team loses a match, the players of the team are subjected to harsh criticism. This time the fans who claim to love the sport have gone one step ahead, as now the family members of the players are being targeted.

It is gruesome to even read the tweet by now-deleted account @Criccrazyygirl issuing a rape threat to a nine-month-old Vamika Kohli, daughter of Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma and Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli. The identity of the person who tweeted the rape threat is yet to be verified, the screenshot has been amplified several times by right-leaning handles.

Pakistani netizens reacted to this horrendous attack on a toddler, who has nothing to do with India losing their matches. We have collected a few reactions who are saying that as a Pakistan, We Stand With Virat Kohli, have a look:

The barbaric tweet called for the toddler’s photo to be revealed while issuing a rape threat. As on November 1, the handle was deleted from Twitter.

The tweet came at a time when captain Kohli is facing online attacks for speaking in support of his Muslim teammate Mohammad Shami, who was attacked online after the cricket team faced a 10-wicket defeat against Pakistan in the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup.

Shami was subjected to vicious online trolling and abuse on Instagram and Twitter soon after the match between the two teams, in which he conceded 43 runs in 3.5 overs, ended.

  • Shoaib Malik blasts ‘unacquainted decision makers’ after humiliating defeat by Zimbabwe

Shoaib Malik blasts ‘unacquainted decision makers’ after humiliating defeat by Zimbabwe

Shoaib Malik has lambasted “unacquainted decision-makers” after a humiliating defeat by Zimbabwe in the second T20I at Harare Sports Club on Friday.

Pakistan’s struggles with the middle-order were laid bare in Harare as the team slumped to a 19-run defeat, with Zimbabwe bowling them out for 99. Wobbles in the middle order have been a worry for much of Pakistan’s tours of South Africa and Zimbabwe, but the side had, by and large, escaped paying for it until now.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam was sufficiently alarmed by Pakistan’s showing with the bat to warn solutions had to be found swiftly, with time running out before this year’s T20 World Cup.

Taking to Twitter, Malik thrashed the management, saying: “Unacquainted decision makers need to take a step back; Babar and Chief Selector [Mohammad Wasim] need to call the shots. In my opinion, we need an international white-ball coach who understands cricket inside out and grooms our captain whilst giving clarity to our players for coming time.”

The cricketer further said: “When your management relies on likes and dislikes especially when your cricket is just in surviving mode, then what else do expect as a nation?”

“On top of that when you don’t let your captain take decisions this is bound to happen,” he added.

In the post-match presentation ceremony, Azam said: “It’s a very painful performance. In South Africa, we had chased down 200; similarly here, we should have won this game comfortably. But unfortunately, we played poor cricket and continued to struggle in the middle order. Today, it was not just the middle order, but our batsmen right through couldn’t perform the way we expect them to. It was a collective collapse and we lost as a group. But credit to Zimbabwe who came back so strongly today.”

Azam refused to make excuses for the defeat. “The wicket was similar to the other day but it was suitable [for batters] and that is not an excuse anyway. As a professional, you adapt to every condition but I think we as openers didn’t give a good start from the top and then our middle order was struggling to step up. The World T20 is closing in and we have to sort this out as soon as possible. The next game we will come back and make a good combination.”

Meanwhile, there has been no official reaction from the PCB to Malik’s tweets yet, but as the fallout from Pakistan’s defeat grows, there are signs a man who made his debut in 1999 may yet be relevant to them in 2021.

Zimbabwe beat Pakistan for the first time in T20I cricket in their 16th attempt, registering their first T20I win at home since 2016. The three-match series is currently level at 1-1, with the final game being played on Sunday.

While Pakistan former speedster Shoaib Akhtar said: “Vulnerability of middle order badly exposed. Batsmen couldn’t tackle slow wicket. Embarrasing defeat. Have to come back stronger in the 3rd match.”

Earlier, former captain of the Pakistan cricket team Shahid Afridi had also raised the middle-order crisis in Pakistan Cricket Team.

While congratulating the Pakistani team on winning the T20I against South Africa, he emphasised the need to work on middle-order performances.

“Despite the victory, we need to review the middle-order performances where we seem to be struggling for a long time,” wrote the former all-rounder on Twitter.

He also suggested that since it is the T20 World Cup year, the team should consider bringing Malik back.
