Six new Pakistani songs to add your playlist ASAP

With three big Eid releases hitting the cinemas next week, the Pakistani movie and music scene is pretty lit these days. Here are some of the songs from the upcoming films that we truly enjoyed.

Bekha Na – Parey Hut Love

Sung by Ali Tariq and Harshdeep Kaur, Bekha Na is the romantic ballad of the year. The soft, soulful melody is a treat to the ears and you can truly feel the song. The music has been done by Azaan Sami Khan while Asim Raza has penned the lyrics.

Ik Pal – Parey Hut Love

This song has ‘Shaadi anthem of the Year’ written all over it. After Shakar Wanda Re, Asim Raza has presented with yet another song we can all groove to on all the mehndis to come. The video of the song is also a fun watch. It’s colourful and features the evergreen Meera. What more can a Lollywood fan ask for?

The song has been sung by Hadiqa Kiani and Harshdeep Kaur. Azaan Sami Khan has composed the music while Shakeel Sohail has penned the lyrics.

    In Dinon – Superstar

In Dinon is the Atif Aslam song we’ve been waiting for, for a long time. The soft, romantic tune is classic Atif and we couldn’t be happier.

    Noori – Superstar

Noori may remind us of Madhuri Dixit’s Ghagra and Aaja Nachle, but it has a unique tune to it which is quite catchy. More than the music or song, it’s Mahira Khan’s dance that gets you hooked to it.

Kuch Toh Hua Ha – Heer Maan Ja

One thing is for sure. The Eid releases have nailed their romantic ballads. Aima Baig and Rameez Khalid are a winning combination and it shows in the song, which has a lovely, feel-good touch to it.

    Badlan – Baaji

Zeb Bangash is a gifted vocalist. Absolutely love the way she has presented this tappa. The traditional tune mixed with her melodious voice is beautiful.

On an ending note, I’d just like to give a special round of applause to Azaan Sami Khan for his brilliantly composed music. Though he’s worked on both Superstar and Parey Hut Love, the music of both the films is different and there’s no repetition in it. He is without a doubt a star of the season.

Celebrities pledge to support PTI’s Ali Haider Zaidi’s #LetsCleanKHI campaign

Heavy monsoon rains across Pakistan have caused flash floods in different parts of the country. One of the cities worst affected by the continuous downpour is the port city of Karachi. The provincial capital is facing terrible challenges with submerged roads, water inside houses, no electricity and overflow of sewage. It is pertinent to mention that Karachi is one of the most polluted cities in the country.

    Ali Haider Zaidi

Keeping this in mind, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi announced that the government is planning to launch a campaign, Let’s Clean Karachi to rid the city of its garbage in the next two weeks.

Zaidi’s decision gave some much-needed relief to the residents who had been continuously voicing their concerns and appealing to the government to help them. Following this, several notable personalities took to social media to pledge their support for Zaidi’s initiative.

The entire team of Peshawar Zalmi including some foreign players shared the same message on Twitter to support Zaidi.

The business community of the city also sent letters of support to the minister and vowed to help him.

Speaking to the media, the minister remarked that Karachi was badly ignored by the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) government. He assured that the cleanliness drive would be completed before August 14 with the joint efforts of its citizens. The drive will begin on Sunday. Zaidi also directed municipal representatives and other relevant departments to speed up their work.

  • Momina Duraid cancels Firdous Jamal from Hum TV for his comments on Mahira Khan

Momina Duraid cancels Firdous Jamal from Hum TV for his comments on Mahira Khan

Veteran actor Firdous Jamal’s comments on Mahira Khan have frankly been blown quite out of proportion.

After the clip in which Firdous said Mahira that she is too old to be a heroine went viral, Mahira’s fans and colleagues went into overdrive to defend the actor and call out Firdous Sahab for his outdated and sexist comments. The matter became so controversial that Mahira had to step in and settle the issue. In a note shared on her Instagram, Mahira had said that she is grateful to all her seniors and that “in a world full of hate, let’s choose to love. Let’s be tolerant of other people’s opinions.”

While Mahira continued to share her feelings on the issue, in various interviews that followed, the matter appeared to have more or less settled down. But, kyunkay Pakistan hai, twist toh aana hota hai.

Yesterday, the CEO of MD Productions which comes under the HUM Films umbrella, Momina Duraid, took to social media to share her thoughts on the matter. It is pertinent to mention here that Momina is producing Mahira’s upcoming film Superstar and the two have worked on several projects in the past including Bin Roye.

Momina began her note by praising Mahira for being “a woman with immense integrity, self-control, and solid principles.” She then went on to say that she is ashamed that Firdous Sahab is part of “our fraternity” and that his comments were “disrespectful and regressive” before announcing that her company “would not work with him again in any capacity.”

Momina’s comments blew up a whole new controversy with some members of the film fraternity coming defending Jamal Sahab and calling out Momina for being extreme. The hashtag #SupportFirdousJamal also began to trend on Twitter soon after.

Hamza Ali Abbasi asked everyone to be responsible.

Firdous’ son Hamza Firdous who was part of a few Hum TV productions, most notably O Rangreza, also shared a video of himself in which said that he is ashamed that he was part of their dramas. He said that Firdous is a self-made man and he doesn’t need to stoop down to gain some fame.

‘Drugged’ pictures of Deepika, Ranbir among others create a stir

It’s a well-known fact that Karan Johar’s hosts the wildest parties in Bollywood. Also that the industry’s who’s who is part of those. Pictures and videos from the parties often go viral on social media as fans and followers love to watch candid moments of their favourite celebs.

When Karan uploaded a video from the previous weekend’s party on Instagram, he may not have imagined the furore it would cause.

Featuring several celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Arjun Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Vicky Kaushal, Varun Dhawan and Shahid Kapoor, the video captioned “Saturday night vibes” has Johar showing the Bollywood actors in conversation with each other or laughing at the camera.

The clip, which has been viewed 2 million times, was widely-circulated and caught the attention of an MLA, Manjinder S. Sirsa who criticised it and accused the actors of abusing drugs. He even threw in a Bollywood reference by naming Shahid Kapoor’s film Udta Punjab in this tweet. The film was based on drug abuse in India.

The actors are yet to respond, but another politician Milind Deora has tweeted in support of the celebs saying that his wife was also present that evening and that nobody was in a ‘drugged state.’

  • Coke’s Ad gets banned by PEMRA

Coke’s Ad gets banned by PEMRA

Extremism is no joke. Pakistan has suffered for the larger part of its history because of extremists. It’s something every single Pakistani is aware of and it’s nothing new. But using it as a casual term in a soft drink advertisement is.

On July 28, after the Ad was released in a big social media and television campaign, singer and politician Jawad Ahmad tweeted: “The new #Coke Ad is an ugly interpretation of the word ‘Extremism’. It shows how low can marketing of a brand stoop to, just to make more money.

It is dumb & immature of marketing team of Coke to use such a highly socially sensitive word so non-seriously just to sell their bottles.”

Pakistan’s Electronic Media Regulatory Authority also found the advertisement to be problematic and has ordered that the Ad not be run on television or the radio until they review it. The Authority stated in their notice that they had gotten many complaints against the Ad and that, “the content of the advertisement is not only offensive but also tantamount to demeaning Pakistanis, as a nation.”

It’s not clear what clause PEMRA has used to ban the Ad. The Authority will make it clear when the Ad is reviewed and the controversial content is omitted (which might be difficult in this case). Until then, judge for yourself.

  • Everything we know about Yasir Hussain and Iqra Aziz’s engagement

Everything we know about Yasir Hussain and Iqra Aziz’s engagement

Iqra Aziz and Yasir Hussain’s very public engagement at the Lux Style Awards had created quite a stir when it happened. A few weeks later, people finally got over it and moved on. Magar hua kuch yoon, keh eik aur twist aagaya. Turns out, the couple had been formally betrothed a long time ago and pictures from the event have finally surfaced on social media, sending fans into a frenzy once again.

It all started when Iqra’s sister, Sidra shared a photo of the couple from what appears to be an intimate engagement ceremony. Fans began to speculate that the engagement happened in February because Iqra had posted pictures of herself in the same dress and styling as in the picture below. Yasir also sported a beard, which he had removed for his play Naach Na Jaane.

Needless to say, that led people to comment that the LSA engagement was staged by the couple as a publicity stunt. And it turns out that the fans were right. About the February part, not the engagement or publicity one.

Because a few hours later, Yasir took to Instagram to share that the pictures were from the couple “baat paaki” ceremony which was an intimate family affair. He said that according to him the engagement happens when rings are exchanged and those were exchanged in front of the whole world at LSA 2019. He said Iqra had no idea about the proposal and that he doesn’t care what the world has to say because he’s happy and in love.

Here are some more pictures from the baat pakki event.

Following Yasir’s post, best man Asad Siddiqui also shared a picture with the couple from a private event they did to celebrate. Asad’s post also came with a note in which he requested everyone to think before passing comments on someone’s special moment.

Is Sheheryar Munawar secretly in ‘love’ with Mahira Khan?

Shehryar Munawar may be doing a film with Maya Ali, but it appears that his favourite co-star will always be Mahira Khan.

In a note posted to social media, Sheheryar expressed his love for Mahira and called her his “super nova.”

Here’s what Mahira had to say:

We’re not saying that they aren’t best friends but it looks like there’s more to than what meets the eye because this is not the first time, Sheheryar has expressed his love for Mahira.

On the Lux Style Awards Red Carpet, Sheheryar was caught on camera giving Mahira a kiss.

  • Govinda says he turned down James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’

Govinda says he turned down James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’

Bollywood star Govinda told Rajat Sharma in the hit TV show Aap ki Adaalat that James Cameron offered him the lead role in the Hollywood blockbuster, Avatar.

Not only that, Govinda says he gave Cameron the name for the title of the movie, Avatar, but he turned down the role as it would take too many years to complete the film. The actor said that he didn’t want to spend 400 plus days roaming around in blue body paint.

    WhatsApp-Video-2019-07-30-at-20.33.56

In case you didn’t know, Avatar was the highest-grossing film ever until Avengers: Endgame recently took over. It also won three Oscars. Avatar, a sci-fi fantasy about humans colonising a planet called Pandora for its mineral unobtanium, starred Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver.

After these revelations, people are confused over whether Govinda is telling the truth or is just being the Ravi Shastri of Bollywood?

Twitter being Twitter had a grand time after this revelation. Here are some of our favourite tweets:

Veteran actor Firdous Jamal’s comments on Mahira Khan is all anyone and everyone can talk about.

However, Mahira has now finally responded to the controversy with a hand-written note she shared on her Instagram. In her note, Mahira thanks everyone who supported her and said that as an artist, she is “proud of her industry” and her own journey.
