‘Parey Hut Love’ has more stars than you can count

The trailer of Asim Raza’s much-awaited romantic drama Parey Hut Love released Friday and the one thing that caught our attention was the plethora of stars in the film.

Apart from the star-studded lead cast which includes Sheheryar Munawar, Maya Ali, Zara Noor Abbas, Ahmad Ali Butt, Hina Dilpazeer and Freiha Altaf, there were glimpses of Mahira Khan, Meera, Fawad Khan, Cybil Chowdry and Sonya Jehan in the film.

And given that it’s an Asim Raza venture, we’re pretty sure there’ll be plenty of more cameos.

The three-minute trailer was fun, colourful, festive and glamourous and the premise of the film appears to be shaadi – no points for guessing that.

Parey Hut Love releases on Eid-ul-Azha.

  • Make Maldives part of Pakistan

    Make Maldives part of Pakistan

A Pakistani citizen filed a suggestion on the Prime Minister’s Citizen Portal requesting for the Maldives to be merged with Pakistan because its a “Muslim country.”

The request which was received from an unknown person from Lahore stated that the Republic of Maldives should be made a part of Pakistan because “with rising sea levels, Maldives could be under water in the next 50 to 100 years” threatening the lives of 5 lakh Muslims who reside in the island country. As per the citizen, Maldives is Muslim nation and our neighbour, hence “it is our responsibility to do something about it. Allah taala rewards good deeds and it is justification enough.”

The citizen also believed that the inclusion of Maldives “will enrich Pakistan financially and culturally and provide a strategic spot in the middle of the Indian Ocean.”

He concluded his suggestion saying, “It’s a win win.”

    The request was closed.

Now whether the request was genuine or it was a joke remains a mystery.

‘Oops I did it again!’ says Mehwish Hayat

In case you missed it, Mehwish Hayat recently did a special song for Meera Jee’s upcoming film Baaji. The song has Mehwish channel her inner rebel and show off her moves. Needless to say, the song irked Pakistanis and many called for Mehwish’s Tamgha-e-Imtiaz to be cancelled.

Mehwish being Mehwish responded to all the haters and trolls last night with a tweet in which she basically said that she doesn’t give a damn about what people say and that she is very proud of her cameo.

She also said that doing these dance numbers is her personal choice and that they make her feel empowered.

The song’s lyricist and choreographer, Osman Khalid Butt, who is also part of the film cheered on Mehwish for her ‘I don’t care’ attitude.

Butt also defended Mehwish admist the backlash.

He also requested people to not “hurl obscenities & vicious abuse their way.”

Parachinar gets its first music academy

Imtiaz Hussain, a folk artist from Boghaki village of Parachinar, has set up conflict-ridden Parachinar’s first music academy.

The music academy which is the first of its kind in the tribal district will teach the youth how to play musical instruments including the rabab and harmonium, as well as how to sing in the traditional Pashto style. Twenty-eight boys have already enrolled in the academy.

According to details, Hussain wanted to become a musician himself which is why last August he decided to set this up to encourage others to learn music.

The academy is being viewed as a sign of peace in the tribal district which has seen sectarian conflict, militancy and scores of suicide attacks in the past decade or so.

“Music itself brings peace and harmony. A singer or musician is a harmless person and only spreads music,” Hussain said, adding that some level of peace has been achieved in the city.

Imtiaz shared that the academy currently lacks proper equipment and musical instruments and that he hopes to get help and guidance to improve the academy.

Though Hussain has faced some resistance from elders who believe that music is forbidden he says that the academy is his passion and he hopes to develop it into a proper music school.

  • Of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Katrina Kaif: Mehwish Hayat’s new song sparks outrage

Of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Katrina Kaif: Mehwish Hayat’s new song sparks outrage

Saqib Malik’s upcoming film Baaji already had a star-studded cast with the likes of Meera Jee and Osman Khalid Butt, but its glamour quotient increased by several folds after its makers dropped a new song featuring none other than dancing queen Mehwish Hayat.

The song titled Gangster Guriya has Mehwish channel her inner rebel and show off her moves in a couple of glamourous outfits. The vocals of the song have been done by Bollywood singer Sunidhi Chauhan while Osman is the man behind the lyrics and choreography.

In its essence, Gangster Guriya is an item number and that is pretty much enough to flare up Pakistanis, especially given the recent debate around the inclusion of such songs in films. In fact, very recently, Hamza Ali Abbasi, on a talent show schooled a young girl for dancing to an item song. Interestingly, the girl’s performance was on Mehwish’s item song, Billi from Na Maloon Afraad.

Following the release of the song, Pakistanis are calling for Mehwish’s Tamgha-e-Imtiaz to be cancelled.

In case you are blissfully unaware, Mehwish’s Tamgha has been embroiled in controversy ever since it was announced that she will be receiving one earlier this year. However, Mehwish slammed all trolls and critics who said she didn’t deserve it. But Pakistanis don’t leave a chance to drag it in at every opportunity.

Here are some of the censored comments from social media:

Someone even appealed to PM Imran Khan to take notice.

Even the disappointed cricket fan wasn’t spared.

Several others pointed out that Mehwish’s avatar in the song bears a striking resemblance to Katrina Kaif’s from Husn-e-Parcham, Zero.

However, there were others who liked Mehwish’s new avatar and song.

  • Veena Malik finds an unexpected supporter

Veena Malik finds an unexpected supporter

Veena Malik has lately been making the news a lot thanks to her controversial statements on Twitter and endless trolling of Maryam Nawaz.

Earlier this week, Veena engaged in a Twitter spat with Indian tennis star Sania Mirza who slut-shamed her by referring to her controversial magazine photoshoot. Though Sania later deleted her tweet, it wasn’t before Veena was able to screenshot it, share it and call her out for deleting it.

Many supported Veena and called out Sania for her remarks. Later, Veena defended herself saying that the magazine photo shoot she is so often called out for was photoshopped. She even said that she has not been part of the film industry for the past five years and has pleaded to God for forgiveness several times. Among those lauded Veena for opening up and being honest was Aamir Liaquat’s wife, Tuba Aamir.

Tuba tweeted that Veena doesn’t owe answers to anyone and told her to keep going and ignore the negativity before going onto say, “Sinners judging sinners for sinning differently.”

Veena Malik trolls Sania Mirza, gets blocked

Well well, this is one phadda we didn’t see coming. After endlessly trolling Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Veena Malik turned her attention to bhabhi Sania Mirza. She first called Sania out for the way she is upbringing her son before subtly blaming her for Pakistan’s humiliating defeat against India in the ICC World Cup 2019.

ICYMI, Veena’s tweet referred to the fact that the cricket players were allegedly hanging out at a local restaurant in Manchester and smoking sheesha a few hours before the big match.

    To this Sania first replied:

However, a few minutes later she deleted this tweet and posted:

While most of us thought that this would be the end of the discussion, Veena decided that she had more to say on this.

This clearly did not sit well with Sania who decided to block Veena. And Veena being Veena shared this nugget of information with her followers.

Veena clearly likes to have the last word, so she posted a couple of more tweets on the matter.

She even clarified, once again, that the magazine cover which featured her nude was photoshopped and added that Sania has her own share of controversies.

In the end, did Veena try to hint that Sania might just be an undercover Indian agent? Iss baat ka jawaab toh sirf Veena hee day sakti hain.

You won’t believe who Aamir Liaquat is engaging in a Twitter spat with

Aamir Liaquat is no stranger to controversy. Ever since he married his second wife, Tuba Aamir, his private life has also come to the forefront and his daughter, Duaa Aamir, often takes to social media to lash out on her father and his new wife.

Aamir and Tuba, who recently concluded their Ramazan show on PTV, are currently in Saudi Arabia for Umrah and have been sharing moments from their trip on social media. In response to these updates, Duaa wrote on Twitter:

While Aamir did not directly respond to his daughter, he threw shade at her by retweeting a tweet which said that the stupidest people are those who share their family problems online for attention. Tuba also shared the same tweet.

He then went onto retweet another tweet which had the same context.

Tuba also followed the same path as her husband by subtly calling out Duaa for her tweet.

She then went onto tweet a verse from the Quran.

Aamir then decided to thank Tuba for “understanding”, though we’re not sure about what.

In response to Aamir and Tuba’s tweets, Duaa shared a song from Disney’s Aladdin hinting that no matter what, she will not keep quiet.

In midst of all this drama, Aamir son, Ahmed got into an accident which resulted in major loss of blood. Thankfully, the situation is under control and Ahmed is on the road to recovery.

  • At the end of the day, ‘Suno Chanda 2’ failed to meet expectations

At the end of the day, ‘Suno Chanda 2’ failed to meet expectations

Ever since the second season of Suno Chanda was announced, fans, including myself, had been waiting with bated breaths for the return of their favourite characters. Expectations were naturally high but unfortunately, the show fell a little short of them and left us wanting a lot more.

The season started the day after Arsal and Jiya’s wedding and ended with the season’s new characters Mithu and Maina getting married. As a result, the new season saw the focus shift from Arsal, Jiya and the rest of the family to the new characters of Mithu, Maina and Bebe. But that is not what the fans had been anticipating. They were more interested in seeing how Arjiya’s married life progressed and how they, and their family members, dealt with the changes.

Unfortunately, Arsal and Jiya pretty much spent the entire season fighting with one another only to reconcile in a rushed final episode. Shahana’s scenes were limited and scattered. We barely saw Sherry and Kinza who were reduced to just advertising the sponsors of the show. Bi Jaan, Agha Jee, Nazakat, DJ, Naeema, Masooma and Jamshed were also seen more in the first half of the season. The punch lines which became so popular in the first season were limited in this one and the season jumped from being a light-hearted comedy to more of a family drama.

I simply failed to understand why Jalal Phuppa was given so much screentime considering his character was hardly likable. Throughout the season, he was either throwing his weight around because he’s the “ghar ka aklota damaad” or he’s out hitting on various women in the family. I was also not a big fan of Pino, Mithu and Maina but considering a lot of people liked their characters, I will reserve my thoughts on them.

My biggest disappointment from this season was Arsal and Jiya’s characters. Arsal’s character was nothing more than a man-child who sulked every time things did not go this way, while Jiya was like dynamite, ready to blow up any minute. Instead of showing them bickering and ignoring one another, the writers could have shown their struggle as a young, married couple learning to live with one another.

On the contrary, one of the highlights of the season was Shahana as the mother-in-law. She was supportive of her daughter-in-law and did not hesitate to call out her son every time she felt he was getting out of line. She was without a doubt the one person who pulled together the show and I can confidently say that she was the one who brought in the viewers each night. That along with the chemistry of the cast with one another.

Despite all the shortcomings, the serial pulled in viewers each night because there is a dearth of such shows on our television screens. Most TV serials either focus on unrequited love or saas-bahu tensions which have now been done to death. Apart from that, a lot of drama nowadays focus on society’s ills and while those are amazing for spreading awareness, they also dampen our already depressed moods.

Suno Chanda provided a light-hearted, mindless watch even though it became boring to some extent. Aehsun Talish is a brilliant director who really knows how to bring out the best in his actors while Saima Akram Chaudhry deserves a round of applause for her writing. The cast’s performances were also brilliant apart from a few opening episodes in which Iqra Aziz and Farhan Saeed went overboard with their acting.

If Hum TV is planning on bringing back a third season, I hope they will focus more on Arsal and Jiya instead of bringing in other characters. Oh and the OST was lovely. Kudos to Farhan for writing such beautiful lyrics.

At the end of the day, the numbers were not because of content, but because of a lack of other content.
