    Special Court of Lahore blocks Moonis Elahi’s CNIC, passport

    A special central court of Lahore has ordered the blocking of former Chief Minister (CM) Punjab’s Chaudhary Parvez Elahi son Moonis Elahi’s Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) and passport, along with those of six other suspects, in an alleged money laundering case.

    The court, presided over by judge Tanveer Ahmed Shaikh, also directed that the names of other proclaimed offenders (POs), including Farasat Ali Chatha, Imtiaz Ali Shah, Amir Sohail, and Aamir Fayyaz, be included in the ECL.

    The court also ordered freezing Moonis’ bank account and assets, including 26 kanal acres in Kasur, a plot, and a house in Gulberg, Lahore.

    The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) alleged that Parvez Elahi’s son and daughter-in-law committed money laundering through a peon, Qaiser Iqbal Bhatti, an employee of the Punjab Assembly.

    FIA stated that the suspects were arrested after an unexplained transaction of millions of rupees in Bhatti and Mooni’s accounts.

    Veteran journalist Azaz Syed has revealed why Geo News and Dawn News were shut down in 2018, a tale full of revelations about what happened at the time.

    Speaking on Absar Alam’s talk show, Mere Sawal, Syed said that he, along with other journalists, was briefed on the situation regarding the Geo News shutdown.

    He said, “Former spymaster Faiz Hameed and former Director General Inter Service Public Relation DG (ISPR) Asif Ghafoor made four demands from the Geo News administration, one of which was to call former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif a thief.”

    “The second demand was to highlight founder Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan’s campaign, and the third demand was not to criticise any remarks made by the judiciary,” he added.

    Syed stated, “The fourth demand was to either expel some journalists from Geo News or bar them from saying anything critical.”

    Former Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Absar Alam said Geo News and Dawn News were shut down to “capture the policy.”

    Responding to halt the distribution of The News and Jang Newspaper, Alam claimed, “These newspaper distributions were barred in the Cantonment and Defence Housing Society (DHA).”

    Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) postponed its August 22 rally in Islamabad due to “fear of rejection” by the people.

    Khawaja Asif claimed that former Prime Minister Imran Khan would not have cancelled the rally if it was going to be successful. And to protect the image of its popularity, PTI is building a “false narrative.” 

    Khawaja Asif pointed out apparent differences between the PTI leadership regarding the August 22 rally and said that they have no “real intention” of getting Imran Khan freed from jail.

    Responding to Imran’s meeting with Azam Swati, Khawaja said, “Meetings or conversations in jail cannot remain a secret; your every movement is recorded.”

    He called Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Ali Amin Gandapur “Buzdar 2” and remarked, “A blame game is underway in the PTI-led province as his [Gandapur] cabinet members are calling him [a] thief.”

    A WhatsApp chat between Aleema Khan, sister of founder Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, and party spokesperson, Rauf Hassan, concerning a statement by Bushra Bibi, has been leaked.

    On June 23, 2023, Aleema Khan sent a message to Rauf Hassan, claiming that Bibi’s claim of meeting Khan in jail and crying is fake.

    Earlier, narrating the meeting, Bushra Bibi had said, “He (Imran Khan) knows that there is pressure on the jailer to kill him. If he gets killed, the public would not spare the jailer.”

    “He (Imran Khan) knows that Army Chief General Asim Munir is listening to his conversation right now.” Bushra Bibi added.

    Aleema Khan told Rauf Hassan that Bushra Bibi’s message was not true and her disinformation cell is inciting people.

    Founder Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan spoke to journalists at the Adiala jail courtroom about postponing the August 22 rally, saying that after learning of the religious parties’ strike at Islamabad, he rescheduled the rally.

    “I was given information that religious parties are on strike over the matter of Khatam-e-Nabuwat, so there was fear of chaos, upon which I advised the Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and Azam Swati to cancel the scheduled rally.”

    He added, “I would never want chaos in the country.”

    “The whole party is in rage and grief over the postponement of the rally”, Imran Khan said.

    “If the rally took place, there were concerns that another May 9 case would be imposed on the party, even though a former judicial inquiry has not been completed,” Khan concluded.

    Hearing a petition challenging the ban on the media coverage of Imran Khan’s trial in jail, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) criticised prison administration for not letting journalists cover the court trial.

    A petition said that despite following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the jail administration barred them from covering the court trial.

    IHC Justice Mian Gul Hassan stated that trial court judges have the authority to regulate media instead of jail administration.

    Justice Hassan advised the jail administration to allow seven journalists appointed by the IHC to cover the court trial of former Prime Minister Pakistan Imran Khan.

    The court also advised journalists not to interview Imran Khan during court proceedings in jail.

    Government allocates Rs 20 billion for Azm-e-Istehkam

    The incumbent federal government has approved Rs 20 billion special allocation for the Azme-e-Istehkam operation during a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) to combat terrorism and extremism.

    The meeting, presided over by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, allocated Rs 1.95 billion to Frontier Corp (FC) Balochistan for security expenses of the Reko Diq project and Rs 276.5 million to Frontier Corp Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for project implementation Letters (PILs) out of Rs 2.23 billion.

    Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, initiated by the Pakistan Army, is the seventh operation since the 2000s. It was followed by Rad-ul-Fasad in 2017.

    The cabinet also approved Rs 100,000 sugar export at the request of Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain.

    Veteran journalist Azaz Syed has revealed how former spymaster General (retd) Faiz Hameed’s arrest took place.

    On his YouTube show Talk Shock, Azaz said that Superintendent Adiala jail Mohammad Akram had multiple phones, one of which was an outdated Chinese-made phone used to exchange messages between former Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and the former Chief of Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) Faiz Hameed.

    “The phone was so outdated that the latest technology that the intelligence agencies deployed could not initially trace its calls,” Azaz claims.

    He said that information was sent to intelligence that Mohammad Akram received calls from one number many times; after the number was checked, Faiz was apprehended, and intelligence agencies recovered the phone.

    He further revealed that “Former Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar was also contacted through these phones.”

    While commenting on Akram’s arrest, Syed predicted he would be a sworn witness against Imran Khan and Faiz Hameed.

    Azaz said, “It will be a confessional statement someday”.

    “When all evidence was showed to Faiz Hameed, he was shocked and disturbed”, Azaz claimed, adding that caught red-handed, he did not get the option to deny what he had done.
