    PC running slow? Here are some easiest fixes

    A slow computer can make life much more difficult than it has to be, whether you’re using it for business or for entertainment. When you can hardly open a window, load a website, or even start up your system, slow performance speed can make your computer worthless.

    Spending a few minutes working through some tried-and-true troubleshooting procedures can make life easier if you’ve recently been experiencing issues.

    The following steps will help your PC perform smoothly:

    Delete unnecessary images or files.

    Sifting through the files and images on your computer might be overwhelming, but by deleting the ones you no longer use, you can speed up the process and prevent your computer from halting or crashing. Clearing out old images, erasing files on desktops, or moving huge files to online backup, are small and sensible methods to help your PC run quicker.

    If the process feels burdensome, break it down and take out 30 minutes each day to delete everything unnecessary. You may quickly identify any temporary files or apps sapping your PC’s storage.

    Get an external SSD/HDD

    If you take a lot of pictures, you might even want to think about external storage, like Portable SSD. It is ideal for safely saving a large number of your necessary high-resolution videos and photographs rapidly.

    Empty Recycle Bin

    Unwanted files will remain in the recycle bin after you have erased them because they are still there. You should routinely empty your recycle bin because it can be taking up space on your computer that could be better used elsewhere.

    The more capacity you have on your hard drive, the better your PC will perform. Your computer will also accumulate temporary files, but you may easily get rid of them. The steps are as follows for Windows 10 and 11:

    1. From the Start menu, select Settings
    2. Go to Storage
    3. Open ‘This PC’ and select the hard drive
    4. Click on Temporary Files
    5. Under Recycle Bin, click Empty Recycle Bin
    6. In Temporary Files, click Delete Temporary Files
    7. Under Downloads, select View Downloads and delete unwanted downloads

    Get more RAM

    You might need to add more RAM if your computer is displaying error warnings and files are taking a long time to load. Although this is distinct from the total amount of storage on your hard drive, adding more RAM will improve your computer’s multitasking abilities.

    Adding RAM can help if you frequently run many programmes at once (opens in a new tab). Installing at least 16GB and 32GB RAM from reputable manufacturers is a good idea. This will help in quicker startups, fewer delays, and smooth app switching.

    Install an anti-virus

    Malware infections can cause a computer to run slower than usual. Additionally, you can have unexpected pop-up warnings, a noisy computer, and erratically starting apps. However, the malware won’t always be so obvious.

    According to Microsoft, running anti-virus and anti-malware software and keeping it updated is the best way to deal with infections and harmful software. For instance, Windows 11 includes Windows Security, which will check your computer for viruses and other harmful software.

    Defragment disk

    In contrast to a solid state drive (SSD), a hard disc drive (HDD) stores data in discrete chunks across the disc. As a result of use and time, relevant data can become dispersed across the entire disc. When you start a software or app, the system then needs more time to locate each piece of data and put it back together for use. Your HDD’s defragmentation can expedite this procedure.

    Click the Windows button or Start menu, choose Control Panel, then System and Security to defragment your hard drive. Defragment your hard drive by selecting it under Administrative Tools.

    Since SSDs use a completely different technology than HDDs, they do not require defragmentation.

    Disable programs that auto-start

    On your computer, certain apps are configured to launch automatically when Windows does. Even though it’s not always simple to know which ones are active, having too many operate concurrently can cause delays.

    In order to prevent start-up apps from starting automatically, you must manually change the settings on your computer.

    Disable constant anti-virus checks

    You may have observed your system performing slowly when Task Manager was open, and that your antivirus programme frequently occupies a position towards the top of the list. While continually scanning your computer for viruses and malware, antivirus software can cause your system to sluggishly operate.

    Sima Taparia of Indian Matchmaking fame is back with the second season of her show on Netflix. While several original cast members returned to the show, such as Pradhyuman Maloo, Aparna Shewakramani and Nadia Jagessar, the highlight of the season was the matchmaker rejecting Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’ pair.

    In the second episode of the latest season, Taparia asks Jagessar about how her relationship with Shekhar, the bachelor she set her up with, is going. She told the matchmaker that despite giving multiple hints, she doesn’t feel he has the same feelings for her as she does for him. But Taparia knew the truth that Jagessar had flirted with another single at a party and she had not told Shekhar about it. The person whom she flirted with, Vishal, was seven years younger than her.

    To prove that Jagessar’s relationship could work, Taparia jokingly gave the example of Chopra and Jonas who have an 11-year age gap. “But I don’t feel it’s a good match, sorry to tell them,” Sima said. She added, “Just they have married, but it’s not a good match. He looks so small and petite in front of her, and she looks elder.” Jagessar let out a shocked laugh in response to what the matchmaking aunty said on the show.

    Chopra and Jonas tied the knot in 2018 in a grand Indian wedding after a whirlwind romance. Earlier this year the couple welcomed their first child via surrogate, a baby girl whom they named Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. Clearly, they’re doing just fine, regardless of what a random matchmaker says.

    Last year Indian television actress Nausheen Ali Sardar, known for her role in Kkusum, revealed that Sima refused to find her a match because she’s Muslim.

    In a recent interview, Nausheen said that she was “blatantly” told by Taparia that she doesn’t cater to Muslims or Catholics.

    Speaking to Pinkvilla, Sardar said: “My family was insisting on getting me enrolled on a matrimonial site since the lockdown was going on, and I wasn’t even going on dates or anything as such. So they thought of approaching Sima Aunty, the famous marriage maker from the show Indian Matchmaking.”

    “We were in for a shock when she blatantly told us on our face that she did not cater to Muslims or Catholics,” continued the actor.

    “I mean it’s 2021! Yes, I am a Muslim, so what? I have an equal right too in society…I had gotten so annoyed at this that I put this entire bitter experience on her social media page where I had asked her to broaden her mindset,” said Sardar further, adding that she later took down the post on her family’s insistence as they feared that someone would try to hurt Nausheen.

    In the same interview, Nausheen shared that this wasn’t the first time she had to face discrimination on the basis of her religion.

    The actor shared that she was rejected by housing societies because ‘they do not give houses or flats in their building to Muslims.’

    “I was shocked! It’s so important to respect every religion and if any society is going to be so rigid in their thoughts, it will be extremely difficult to survive there,” lamented Sardar.

    Nausheen made her television debut with Ekta Kapoor’s hit soap opera, Kkusum in 2001.

    Addressing his supporters via video link, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan talked about the Toshakhana controversy. Khan said that all those who were appointed to higher ranks in government offices receive gifts and even the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) receives them.

    “Even the army chief gets gifts. Asif Zardari took three expensive cars from the Toshakhana. I also received one car while Nawaz Sharif took one car,” he added while demanding that all of them should be investigated.

    Khan said that the government is trying to malign his reputation. He also revealed that PTI leaders are receiving threats from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

    Foreign funding case

    Talking about the party’s foreign funding case, Khan said that it is “baseless”.

    The PTI chief said that the party had provided the names of 40,000 donors, who are now being termed “foreigners” by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

    “Despite a court order to investigate other parties’ cases, it was only the PTI that was put under a trial,” added the PTI chairman.

    Imran Khan said that the only way to take the country out of the current crisis was through “free and fair elections”.

    The Moroccan Agency of International Cooperation (AMCI) has offered scholarships to Pakistani students who want to enroll in public higher education, technical, and vocational institutions in Morocco for the academic year 2022–2023.

    The deadline for Higher Education Commission (HEC) to receive nominations is set for September 20, 2022.

    How to apply for the scholarship:

    Candidates should choose “Learning Opportunities Abroad” after registering and filling out their profiles.

    All applicants should note that all nominations from Pakistan will be routed via HEC. Applicants should send two sets of AMCI application (French form) along with required documents as mentioned on page-2 of the AMCI application form, in spiral binding and one copy of HEC application form with documents separately in spiral binding on or before, September 20, 2022.

    On the basis of the greatest academic merit, HEC will narrow down the list of qualified candidates. Moroccan authorities or universities may test or interview selected Pakistani nominees.

    A Mumbai man updated his Tinder bio two weeks ago to add, “Looking for a sister to hang out during Rakshabandhan.”

    This sounds odd as one of the most widely used dating apps, Tinder, is exclusively used to find partners rather than sisters.

    The man wrote on Reddit that he used the app to find sisters because he didn’t have any. He wrote about how Raksha Bandhan, a holy festival for the Hindu community, made him feel lonely because he didn’t have anyone to tie him a Rakhi.

    He has been using Tinder for the past two years to find “a sister to hang out with during Raksha Bandhan,” and this year he was successful in finding two girls. The three of them are now getting ready to celebrate the day together.

    He wrote, “I have felt the FOMO for most of my life during Raksha Bandhan as I do not have any sister. No one to tie me Rakhi and me gifting them stuff. Anyways, since last 2 years I have been putting the bio as follows during 2 weeks before Raksha Bandhan: Looking for a sister to hangout during Raksha Bandhan. Thanks to Tinder, now I have like two sisters both of whom I met on Tinder. This year all 3 of us are planning to get together and celebrate Raksha Bandhan and exchange gifts and stuff.     The Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) recently announced that it has decided to allow married women, women who are pregnant or those who have children to compete in the global beauty pageant.

    The Miss Universe pageant has updated its 70-year-old eligibility rule. Currently, the rule states that only single women aged 18 and 28, who have never been married or had children are allowed to apply.

    The new rules will take effect for the 72nd Miss Universe pageant in 2023.

    “We all believe that women should have agency over their lives and that a human’s personal decisions should not be a barrier to their success,” said an internal memo from within the Miss Universe organisation, which is available with The National.

    Andrea Meza, who represented Mexico in the pageant and was crowned Miss Universe 2020, shared a message for those criticising this new rule. 

    “A few people are against these changes because they always wanted to see a single beautiful woman who is available for a relationship,” she said. “They always wanted to see a woman that from the outside looks so perfect that she’s almost unreachable. The former is sexist and the latter is unrealistic.”

    “Just like in any other industry, women are capable of having demanding leadership positions without or with a family, it is no different in this case,” she said.
