  • ‘PM Khan cannot take no for an answer’: Rauf Klasra reveals premier’s relationship with establishment

‘PM Khan cannot take no for an answer’: Rauf Klasra reveals premier’s relationship with establishment

Senior journalist Rauf Klasra, while presenting his political analysis on the present rift between the government and establishment on the appointment of new director-general (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency on Hum News, said, “Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan cannot take ‘no’ for an answer.”

“I think the prime minister is offended by this. A popular leader or hero is accustomed to having ‘yes’ said to them. They cannot take ‘no’ for an answer. Our brothers in Rawalpindi [establishment] need to share the blame here. You [establishment] have made a child used to the [yes culture] in [the past] three years,” said Klasra, alluding to PM Khan.

“You [establishment] made the child habitual of hearing a ‘yes’, now you have said ‘no this cannot happen’, eventually the child will react,” added Klasra.

Klasra further said, “You [establishment] have always done fire fighting for PM Khan, managed everything for him, you did not let Khan Saab get hurt by a mere thorn. You [establishment] managed the media and the media owners [for him], you [establishment] managed anchors and politicians [for him] as well. You [establishment] managed Opposition, Parliament and Senate too, name anything [and you (establishment) managed that for him].”

Klasra went on to reveal that the establishment even helped the premier in taking down two tweets of journalists. After this statement, anchorperson Mohammad Malick interjected and said that “allegedly two tweets were asked to bring down, let’s keep it safe .”

“You [establishment] have managed so much for the premier and now if he has asked for something, he hasn’t asked for the moon, he only asked for six months extension of his favourite Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Faiz Hameed’s tenure,” said Klasra.

Klasra said that the reason for this demand of the premier wanting Lt Gen Faiz Hameed to stay as the DG ISI was for his work in Afghanistan. Adding that as per his sources, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has explained to PM Khan that “ISI is an institution, and it handles matters in Afghanistan, India, America as an institution and not on the basis of an individual. Nothing will get affected by the appointment of the new director-general. The new appointee will get the support of the institution and the situation in Afghanistan shall be handled.”

The army has always handled regional security issues, not the prime minister, said Klasra. “In my opinion, PM Khan needed Lt Gen Faiz Hameed for his personal and political issues,” said Klasra, and Malick once again interjected and said “Allegedly”.

Fawad Chaudhry says PM Khan will meet all candidates for DG ISI slot

Following the emergency meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) parliamentary group at Parliament House yesterday, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry told the media that the notification regarding the appointment of new director-general (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency would be issued in two to three days, reports Dawn.

Fawad denied that the premier would take interviews of the potential candidates but said: “Prime Minister Imran Khan will just meet all candidates (for the slot of DG ISI)”.

No such interviews have been taken in the past by any prime minister. Rather the official who is selected as head of the ISI pays a goodwill visit to the prime minister after his appointment.

However, during the parliamentary meeting, PM Khan assured the party leaders that the issue of the appointment of the new ISI chief has been amicably settled by him and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and that the government will complete its five-year term.

Prior to the party meeting, Fawad Chaudhry while talking to reporters at Parliament House, said, “Everyone, at the turn of every hour, is trying to twist the matter to gain some popularity.”

  • ‘Grudge match’: Ian Smith looks forward to Pakistan vs New Zealand T20 World Cup encounter

‘Grudge match’: Ian Smith looks forward to Pakistan vs New Zealand T20 World Cup encounter

Former New Zealand cricketer Ian Smith believes that the encounter between Pakistan and New Zealand at the T20 World Cup will be a ‘grudge match’ and he is eagerly waiting for both teams to go head-to-head.

Last month, Pakistani fans were upset when New Zealand unilaterally decided to pull out of the series against Pakistan due to ‘security threats’.

“It’s a bit of a grudge match now on the basis that New Zealand pulled out of the tour over there just recently and came home, which didn’t please Pakistan at all,” said Smith, who is also a renowned commentator, according to Stuff.

“We were right in doing what we did but it doesn’t ease the pain for them so there will be feeling in that game. It’s the first game that we play and I think there will be a real edge to that one so I’m looking forward to it,” he further added.

The cancelation of New Zealand’s tour had much deeper implications as PCB was tirelessly repairing Pakistan’s image on the international stage ever since the 2009 terrorist attack on Sri Lanka’s team.

“This conspiracy has been hatched to tarnish the image of Pakistan, as its image was going to build up due to the role it is playing for peace in the region,” said Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will face India first at Dubai Inetrnational Stadium on October 24. The green shirts will be encountering the black caps on October 26.

Prior to this, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairperson and former President Asif Ali Zardari, made an appearance before an accountability court in Islamabad today, where journalists questioned him about the appointment of DG ISI and he responded with laughter as well.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry, while talking to reporters at Parliament House, said, “Everyone, at the turn of every hour, is trying to twist the matter to gain some popularity.”

He said that the process of DG ISI’s appointment has started and will complete soon and that “there’s no dispute between the government and the military”.

“Everyone is on the same page.”

Earlier today, Fawad took to Twitter and said the game that a certain section wanted to play on the issue of the appointment has failed.

“Now it is being said that the prime minister will conduct an interview for the appointment of the new DG ISI. Meetings before such appointments are a normal practice,” he said.

He added that it is “highly inappropriate” to make such meetings controversial.

Watch: Zardari reacts to question, ‘Who will be next DG ISI?’

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairperson and former President Asif Ali Zardari, when questioned about the appointment of Director General (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, responded with laughter.

A journalist asked Zardari, “Appointments are being made, a summon has not been issued, what will you say?”

“My summon?” asked Zardari in response.

“Who will be the new DG ISI?” asked the journalist.

Zardari responded by laughing out loud.

Zardari made an appearance before an accountability court in Islamabad on Thursday and said that the “next turn” to form a government in the country will be that of the PPP.

Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday tweeted that consultation between Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on the appointment of a new DG ISI had been completed and the process for the appointment had begun.

  • ‘Adopt a black, white way of life with a man who was twice my age and born again Muslim’: Jemima Khan

‘Adopt a black, white way of life with a man who was twice my age and born again Muslim’: Jemima Khan

In an interview with ‘Evening Standard, Jemima Goldsmith talks about her life in Pakistan, being married to Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, her children, her work, and her friendship with Monica Lewinsky.

Jemima says she saw parallels between her life and Lewinsky’s. “During the interviews, she [Monica Lewinsky] was describing the FBI sting, and I suddenly realised that the same year, in Pakistan, I’d had to leave the country because I’d also been threatened with jail on politically trumped-up charges. I’d been accused of smuggling antiques, one of the few non-bailable offences in Pakistan,” said Jemima, who had been targeted by the Nawaz Sharif government in 1998-99.

“I realised there were parallels [with Lewinsky], marrying an older, politically powerful man and being used to undermine him. It is not a normal decision, aged 21, with all the freedoms and privileges that we grew up with, to essentially give those up, to go and live in extremely black and white culture,” said Jemima.

“Adopt a black and white way of life and doctrine, with a man who was twice my age and a born again Muslim,” added Jemima.

“At that point in my life, I found some reassurance in the prescriptiveness of that culture, that religion, that man. When my sister [India Jane Birley] was asked in an interview why I went there she said, very intelligently, moral certitude.”

“It was seen as this great amorous adventure and I am not sure that was the whole story. I would say, in retrospect, that moral certainty might have been more of a driving factor,” said Goldsmith on her marriage with PM Khan.

“I do feel like I have an ability to see things from both points of view in a way that possibly some of my contemporaries, both in Pakistan or here, don’t. I even feel like I am right in the middle of the Islamophobia and anti-Semitism debate because I’ve seen both at firsthand. I’ve got half-Pakistani Muslim children and I was a young girl who was politically targeted because of my Jewish ethnicity. It’s an interesting perspective.”

Jemima says there are more exciting projects in the pipeline as far as her work is concerned — a political documentary series and a comedy. She nurtures a long-standing ambition to write a book as well.

‘Dupatta nahi lia, khatra’: Zulqarnain Sikandar blasts troll for inappropriate comment on wife Kanwal Aftab

TikTokers Kanwal Aftab and Zulqarnain Sikandar tied the knot in April 2021. The Masters star recently clapped back at a cyber troll for questioning his wife Kanwal Aftab’s choice of dressing.

On their Nikkah ceremony the bride opted for a white and gold outfit, the groom donned a white shalwar kameez and a red waist coat.

Kanwal recently made her acting debut in Express Entertainment’s Oye Moti. Turns out that the series does not aim to mock women but is an honest attempt to shed light on body and fat-shaming and how it affects those at the receiving end of criticism.

Each episode has a separate storyline and features different women stuck in different scenarios where they are fat-shamed. However, they manage to overcome whatever hurdle comes their way.
