    ‘This western bloc gets united’: Ramiz Raja reacts on England, New Zealand tour pullout

    Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ramiz Raja on Monday expressed his disappointment over England Cricket Board’s (ECB) decision to call off the men’s and women’s cricket tours.

    Raja said England has failed a member of their cricket fraternity when it needed it the most.

    “Disappointed with England, pulling out of their commitment & failing a member of their Cricket fraternity when it needed it most. Survive we will inshallah,” Ramiz Raja tweeted.

    “I am severely disappointed in England’s withdrawal but it was expected because this western bloc gets united unfortunately and tries to back each other. So you can take any decision on the basis of security threat and perception. There was a sense of anger because first New Zealand got away without sharing information about the threat they were facing,” said the 1992 World Cup team member in a video shared by the PCB.

    The PCB chairman further said that it is a wake up call for Pakistan team to become the best for other teams to line up to play against them without making excuses.

    “A wake up call for Pakistan team to become the best team in the world for teams to line up to play them without making excuse,” he said.

    ECB on Monday announced that it has has reluctantly decided to withdraw both men’s and women’s teams from the tour to Pakistan.

    “The ECB Board convened this weekend to discuss these extra England Women’s and Men’s games in Pakistan and we can confirm that the Board has reluctantly decided to withdraw both teams from the October trip,” an ECB statement read.

    New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has expressed his displeasure with his team over the decision to pull out of its tour of Pakistan.

    “I don’t know the details of yesterday. It was a sudden call, but obviously, a real shame,” said the captain.

    The Kiwi captain said there is so much passion in Pakistan and that he dreaded that the “guys will be gutted” to not have started and played the whole series.

    I will find out a bit more about it over the next few days, Williamson said, admitting that he does not know full details of the incident.

    “Players’ safety is paramount and when you hear messages going through from the government, it is certainly above the players’ heads,” Williamson said.

    Williamson shared his empathy towards the Pakistani players his team was set to be pitted against on the pitch. “They were obviously over there, ready to go to the ground. It is a sudden thing that happened.”

    He said he certainly hoped there is no lasting impact from it because it is a special place for cricket to be and there have been a lot of strides forward to see cricket go back into Pakistan and play there safely.

    Meanwhile, Williamson was not part of the team that arrived in Pakistan for the series but he said he was aware of what happened and was concerned.

    Chairman of the Parliamentary Com­mittee on Kashmir, Sheh­r­yar Khan Afridi’s video has gone viral on social media, where he can be seen criticising the women of the United States (US) for their culture.

    Afridi, while leisurely walking in Times Square, New York, wearing a Levi’s t-shirt, lectures American women for their cultural choices and draws a comparison with Pakistani women.

    “The religion we follow, whether we are a Baloch, Sindhi, Punjabi, immigrant, Siraki or Pushtun, we respect our women. See, she is an American woman. She too is someone’s sister or daughter. This is Manhattan,” says Afridi.

    Afridi further added, “These people are advocates of human rights, these aren’t just political slogans. This is the reality.”

    “The ones who do the big talks and lecture us should come and see what the condition of their women is,” said Afridi.

    Afridi received a lot of backlash on his video and Twitterati reacted strongly to Afridi’s problematic comments.

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal tweeted, “Ridiculous. [The] US has its own culture & values & it is none of our business to lecture them on women issues while we have seen some serious crimes against women recently at home.”

    Journalist Alia Chugtai tweeted, “11 rape cases are reported a day in Pakistan. No one actually knows how many in reality. An unaccounted number of little boys and men raped – and here is a ruling party member trying his hand at dissing how women in America are treated.”

    Journalist Secunder Kermani tweeted, “One minute and one second of pure facepalm as this Pakistani politician, in a rather tight t-shirt, sermonises about the state of American women.”

    Educationist Taimur Bandey wrote, “All those patriots worried about the image of Pakistan hope you are as embarrassed today as you usually are over everything else.”

    Political activist questioning the government tweeted, “What is this @ShireenMazari1? Why your party people are so brainless? If he does not like [the] US why is he going at first place and wearing T-SHIRT and jeans and cursing their culture? This is disgusting they should not behave childish.”

    US right-wing journalist praises PM Khan for saving Afghan’s lives

    A right-wing television presenter, Glenn Beck has thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan in a series of tweets for his support in getting Afghans out from the war-torn country.

    Beck, who has a charity organisation called Mercury One, has been assisting with evacuations from Afghanistan since the Taliban’s takeover, revealed that Pakistan’s leadership helped with the release and departure of three flights.

    In a tweet, he stated that, “We reached out and asked numerous leaders in political and civil society around the world for help. The silence was shocking as was the outpouring of help on a humanitarian basis. We received an immediate response to our requests from PM Imran Khan of Pakistan who then acted on his willingness to assist.”

    “Pakistan has once again proven to be a valued partner in all seasons for the United States, despite recent criticisms from some sections of US media,” he added.

    While stressing that the US should recognize Pakistan’s assistance at this point, he tweeted, “We will not forget this support that has enabled America and its allies to make good on their promises to those who helped them without pause or reflection.”

    “Let no one fool you, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) female athletes are out because of you and Imran Khan”, he concluded in his last tweet.

    Earlier, there were reports that six chartered planes by Beck’s charity were seeking to evacuate at least 1,000 people, including more than 100 Americans. During his efforts, his supporters praised him for doing “more for Americans than all of Biden’s supporters combined.” 

    According to the statement made by Pakistan Foreign Office in early September, 12,000 people had been evacuated from Afghanistan with the help of Pakistan.

    Beck is one of the most controversial media figures in the US and quite well-known among conservative circles.

    Romanian star-singer Adrian Sina, face of the music band Akcent extended his support to Pakistan in the wake of New Zealand’s sudden and disappointing abandonment of their Pakistan tour under the pretext of security concerns minutes before the first ODI started.

    Taking to social media, the official page of the band shared a video of a concert in Pakistan with a note which read: “I have been to Pakistan many times and I always felt it like a home. I feel safe there and the love I receive from Pakistan is beyond amazing. I will come back even more often. I love my fans! Pakistan Zindabad!”

    Earlier this month Akcent also extended support for Pakistani actor Ayesha Omar after her confessions on mental health.

    The Black Caps devastated Pakistan’s cricket fraternity on September 17 after opting out of their tour of Pakistan minutes before the first ODI was to be played. They had cited a ‘security threat’ as the reason without divulging any further details.

    Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif’s spokesperson Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan on Sunday said that Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz’s comments regarding Shahbaz’s expensive watch are ridiculous and there’s a limit to telling lies.

    Shibli said that while the Opposition Leader always complains about inflation in the country, he himself wears a wristwatch worth Rs10.5 million.

    Responding to Shibli’s comments, Khan said, “There is a limit to telling lies, Shehbaz Sharif has been wearing the wristwatch for the last 50 years out of respect and attachment for his late father.”

    “The wristwatch was bought by late Mian Muhammad Sharif in the 1970s during a trip to Germany,” Shehbaz’s spokesperson said, adding that at the time, the worth of the watch was just Rs2,000.

    “Being the son of [famous Urdu poet Ahmed Faraz], it’s not suitable for you to resort to mudslinging,” Khan said to Shibli. “In terms of performance, you should acknowledge that you have no comparison with Shehbaz Sharif.”

    He said that attacks have taken place in New Zealand and England, incidents have also been seen in Australia, and incidents are happening everywhere in the world but there is no noise. He also added that the situation in Pakistan has changed. “Earlier, people used to ask, is it safe to go to Pakistan? Now people ask where to go and eat in Pakistan.”

    The New Zealand cricket team cancelled their tour shortly before the first ODI match against Pakistan on the grounds of security reasons, which has drawn frustration from cricket fans all over the world. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to take a strong stand against the New Zealand Cricket Board.
