Momina Mustehsan, Bilal Saeed’s ‘Baari’ crosses 1.5 million views

Momina Mustehsan’s duet with Bilal Saeed Baari has crossed 1.5 million views on Youtube in less than 36 hours.

The soft, melodious song has been set in the heart of Lahore in Yousaf Sallauddin’s Haveli, while the iconic Badshahi Masjid can be seen in the background.

Bilal plays a young man visiting the city from abroad. He waits with Rahim Pardesi (who has a special appearance in the song) to catch a glimpse of Momina as she passes by on her way to college with her friends.

According to the singers, the song encapsulates young love and the happiness it brings in life.

“Love is the beginning of everything in life; it leads to unimaginable happiness. This winters, feel the warmth of love with Baari,” reads the caption.

Also would like to add here that we absolutely love the wardrobe which has been done by Mohsin Naveed Ranjha – it perfectly complements the background and setting of the song.

Baari has been written and composed by Bilal who has also produced the music video.

  • Akcent’s lead vocalist had a ‘fantastic’ cup of tea with DG ISPR Gen Asif Ghafoor

Akcent’s lead vocalist had a ‘fantastic’ cup of tea with DG ISPR Gen Asif Ghafoor

Romanian pop band Akcent’s lead singer Adrian Sina, after his concert at the Alhamra Cultural Complex in Lahore, paid a visit to the ISPR Headquarters where he had a “fantastic cup of tea” with DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor.

Taking to Twitter, the singer shared a short video of himself with Gen Ghafoor in which he says, “I am so happy that I had a chance to travel from Romania to Pakistan to meet General Asif Ghafoor and ISPR.”

Sipping on his tea, he added, “I discovered, once again, that Pakistani tea is fantastic.”

The Director-General of the ISPR had invited the band to have tea at his office when they announced their visit back in October.

Meanwhile, Akcent’s concert in Lahore on Sunday was embroiled in controversy. The pop band was initially scheduled to perform at Governor House to ‘express solidarity with the Kashmiris’.

However, the event drew ire on social media with users questioning the logic behind holding a concert to raise voice for Kashmir. Following the backlash, the Punjab government, including Governor Chaudhry Sarwar and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, withdrew its support and logistics. The government also did not allow the organisers to provide Kashmir flags to the concert participants. All flexes referring to the oppression of Kashmiris were also pulled down.

Since the Romanian band was invited and payments were made, it performed at the Alhamra Cultural Complex before a large crowed but without any gesture for held Kashmir – it was held as a music concert without any political or diplomatic agenda.

The development upset many including Sina, who was reportedly disappointed that he could not speak a word about the Kashmiris. Sina’s press conference, which was scheduled at the Governor House, was also reportedly cancelled.

Chief Minister’s Taskforce on Women Development chairperson Tanzila Imran Khan, the host of the event, also expressed her disappointed saying that she herself had contacted the band’s lead and made payments from her own pockets to raise voice for the Kashmiris.

Kubra Khan reveals how ‘Alif’ changed her life

Kubra Khan is currently making waves as Husn-e-Jahaan in Alif and owns the screen every time she comes on. In a recent interview with BBC Asian Network, Kubra opened up about her spiritual journey, how Alif was “God sent” and how none of her awards would have any value in front of Allah.

“I think I had this spiritual awakening where money and materialistic things and success and fame and all of that – of course, it’s part of our world – but I can’t take this anywhere with me. These awards aren’t going to hold any value in front of the “big guy” up there,” Kubra said in her interview.

“On my death bed, I don’t want to be scared to face my Lord.”

She continued, “Maybe for a short period of time, I wanted my dramas to be better than others, but that’s a normal thing to feel. At the same though, I think when I took that back seat, I realised I’m not in competition with anyone.”

“At the end of the day, if I can look at myself in the mirror and be okay with what I am today, that’s the main thing. Because let’s face it, I could have 50 awards today, I could be the next big thing, but if I’m not like a good human being, what does all that stand for?”

Speaking about her ongoing drama Alif, Kubra commented, “Alif was Godsend, that’s all I can say. Alif came to at a point where I was not in the best place to be really honest. I was in a dark place in my life at that point – because obviously you’re just shutting yourself off from everybody, I was kind of like ‘do I even want to be a part of the industry?’ I was going through that kind of mindset. So when Alif came and I read the script, I fell in love with my character, Husn-e-Jahaan.”

    “I lived Husn-e-Jahaan. I didn’t act her,” she added.

When the anchor remarked that Kubra is not in this [acting career] for the long run and she just wanted to make enough money to move one, Kubra laughed and said, “That is literally what I said. But, you know the thing is, I love the art itself. It’s just what it brings.”

“I mean I still wear like sleeveless tops. I still listen to music, I still dance. But as long as your intention is right, in the end, it’s all going to end good. I genuinely feel like if I can make a balance out of this – sure – but if not, then, yeah, maybe I will end it and move on somewhere else.”

Speaking further, Kubra said that people have misconceptions about people in the entertainment industry and that they don’t know what she’s like at home or what relationship she shares with her Lord.

“People have this misconception that just because you’re in the industry, you have to be corrupt. But that’s not true. I know so many amazing, incredible people in the industry, who have found their core. For example Ayeza Khan. She’s in the industry and she’s a beautiful mother and a wife. And a very good actor. Even Shehzad Sheikh – he’s a dear friend, a wonderful father, husband, son and brother,” Kubra said.

Kubra also shared details about her next project – she will be part of Nadeem Baig and Humayun Saeed’s upcoming project London Nahi Jaunga. She clarified that the film is not a sequel to Punjab Nahi Jaungi – the script, the story, the characters all are completely different. Along with Kubra and Humayun, the film will also feature Mehwish Hayat and is expected to release in 2020.

  • What really happened between Ali Rehman Khan and the McDonald’s employee?

What really happened between Ali Rehman Khan and the McDonald’s employee?

As promised by Ali Rehman Khan, there is more to the story than what initially met the eye.

A day after a video of Ali losing his cool at a McDonalds employee went viral on social media and became the number one Twitter trend, McDonalds has released a ‘Behind the Scenes’ video which shows the crew of the fast-food joint and the actor delivering their takes and sharing a few laughs.

On Saturday afternoon, a video of Ali Rehman Khan screaming at a cashier of a local restaurant went viral. The ‘leaked’ video showed Ali shouting at a McDonald’s employee, saying “Aapko pata hai main kaun hoon? Aapne kabhi mujhe TV pe dekha hai? Aap employee hain, aapka kaam hai meri baat maanna.” (“Do you know who I am? Have you ever seen me on TV? You are an employee, your job is to listen to what I am saying.”)

The restaurant employee responds by saying, “Please sir, don’t be angry with us. You’re absolutely right. I was just joking.”

The employee tried apologising to Ali multiple times but the actor only stopped when he realised he was being recorded.

Following the outrage on social media, Ali released a video in which he explained his actions and revealed that the video was part of a marketing campaign. He also said that more details will be revealed soon.

Ali, in his video message, said that the purpose of making the video viral has been fulfilled and it was done to highlight the #TumJantayHoMainKaunHoon culture.

Ali elaborated that the video was shot to highlight the “so-called VIP culture in our country” and that he is very glad that his video sparked a debate on the topic and made people “uncomfortable”.

Sharing his own thoughts on the matter, Ali said that we often talk about and raise voice about a matter on Twitter but don’t act upon it.

Ali also thanked the staff at McDonalds for being the “best partners in crime.”

He ended his video by requesting people to focus more on the message and less on his actions.

  • $80,000 trophy hunting licenses issued for rare Astore markhor

$80,000 trophy hunting licenses issued for rare Astore markhor

The wildlife department of Gilgit Baltistan has auctioned four licenses for hunting the markhor, the official national animal of Pakistan.

According to a report in Arab News, the Ministry of Climate Change agreed to the licenses, including for trophy hunting of the much in demand flare-horned Astore markhor, a large goat species native to Pakistan. Under the government’s scheme, 12 licenses for markhors are issued every year in Pakistan, four in Gilgit Baltistan.

Each license was sold for over $80,000, from which 80 percent will go to the villages where the hunt takes place for developing their infrastructure. A total of $500,000 was reportedly raised from the auction.

The report, quoting president of a wildlife conservation community in Astore, Abdul Sami, further said that the before the licensing was introduced two decades ago, both residents and influential people would just hunt the animals for fun and meat.

Sami shared that the licensing has benefited rural communities, as the money from permits becomes their development funds.

“We have built schools, hospitals, water supply systems, and maternity homes from the trophy hunting scheme in the area,” Sami said, disapproving criticism against markhor hunting.

Earlier this year in February, a photograph of American hunter Bryan Kinsel Harlan posing with an Astore markhor he killed had invited social media outrage. Harlan had reportedly paid a record $110,000 to shoot it on a tourist expedition to Pakistan’s northern Himalayan region of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Meanwhile chief conservator Zakir Hussain claimed that the markhors would have been extinct had it not been for the licensing program. The population of markhors in the Astore Valley is currently 2,500. According to the wildlife department’s data, the markhor population in the province has increased to over 6,000 from a mere 200 in the 1990s.

Trophy hunting season runs from November to April. As markhors prefer cold, they can usually be found at the height of 8,000-11,000 feet, however, during winters they descend to 5,000-6,000 feet.

Markhor hunting usually takes place at dawn or dusk. Hunting of female and young animals below the age of six is strictly forbidden. The age of the markhor is determined by its horns, the older the markhor is, the bigger its horns will be. Markhors live about 15 years on average. The hunter is accompanied by wildlife department officials who ensure that everything is done as per the law.

Khadija Shah receives a signed ‘Thank you note’ from Kate Middleton

The Royals tour of Pakistan was definitely one of the highlights of the year and the Princess’ wardrobe was the cherry on top. Duchess Kate stole the show with a number of traditional dresses from local designers including Maheen Khan, Gul Ahmed and Khadija Shah.

And it appears that the Duchess was very pleased with her wardrobe because Khadija of Élan got a signed thank you note from Kate herself.

Khadija shared a picture of the letter on Twitter and expressed her happiness over receiving it.

Along with appreciating the designer for her work, the letter also said: “Pakistan really is a wonderful country, which we both thoroughly enjoyed visiting and hope to return one day soon.”

Kate had worn a cream and black embroidered outfit by the designer label as she boarded a plane back to Islamabad after an unexpected storm had disrupted their schedule and forced the royal couple to spend the night in Lahore.

Kate wore the same outfit to a private visit the royal couple undertook to the SOS Village in Lahore.

Kate and William visited Pakistan for the first time in October. Their five-day tour had a jam packed schedule which included visits to Lahore, Islamabad and Chitral.

Two ‘Coke Studio 12’ songs taken down because of copyright issues

Coke Studio Season 12 seems to have found itself in the middle of a copyright controversy yet again after two songs of the season were deleted from Youtube.

Sanam Marvi’s first song for the season Hairaan Hua has been taken off YouTube days after it’s release. According to the message displayed by Youtube on the Twitter link, “the video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Abida Parveen.”

    Abida

Other than that, Abrarul Haq’s rendition of his iconic Billo has also been removed due to “copyright claim by Karman Entertainment Limited.” Billo was a roaring success and people loved this remake.

Previously, Shuja Haider and Rachel Viccaji’s Saiyyan was not released on Youtube due to copyright infringement. It was revealed that EMI Pakistan had the rights of the Noor Jehan classic and they stopped the song from being aired. However, the matter got resolved and the song was released.
