  • ‘I am a dharna expert’: Prime minister belittles Fazl’s Azadi March

‘I am a dharna expert’: Prime minister belittles Fazl’s Azadi March

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Monday called himself a “dharna [sit-in] expert” as he boasted of his 126-day lockdown of the federal capital from 2014 and belittled that of Maulana Fazlur Rehman-led Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) which ended within two weeks.

Addressing the groundbreaking of the Hazara Motorway Phase II in Havelian, the premier called JUI-F’s 14-day sit-in a “circus” and added that the protesters could not even stay for a month in the capital.

He reiterated that would not spare “a single corrupt person” in the country no matter how they tried to “blackmail” the government and added that he “did not care about votes, but feared God and the hereafter”. “My message [to all my opponents] is that my God has trained me for challenges. I know how to win and how to face defeat. And I know how to stand back up after I have been defeated.”

Warning opposition leaders against ganging up on him, the premier also trained guns at his political nemeses, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

While PM Imran said that Shehbaz was “trying to be Nelson Mandela” — former South African president and peace activist who spent 27 years in prison due to his political struggle — he also mimicked Bilawal in an attempt to troll the PPP chief for his rainwater gaffe.

“When it rains, water pours down. When it rains more, more water pours down.”

    WATCH VIDEO:

“Bilawal’s theory shocked even the most remarkable scientists like Einstein,” the premier said further and assereted that the PPP chairman claimed to be a liberal “but he was liberally corrupt”.

    BILAWAL STRIKES BACK:

It wasn’t later that Bilawal reacted to PM Imran’s remarks in a tweet.

He said that he was neither liberal nor corrupt or a hypocrite. “I am a visionary and progressionist who has been in politics for more than a year,” he said, adding that the premier was a 70-year-old who had been exercising “selected” politics for more than 20 years.

“Imran Khan’s identity by U-turns, hypocrisy and being a puppet,” Bilawal wrote.

  • ‘Help me’: Altaf Hussain looks towards Modi for support

‘Help me’: Altaf Hussain looks towards Modi for support

Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder Altaf Hussain has reportedly requested Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help him by giving him and his companions asylum and financial help.

According to a report in The News, Hussain made his request in his first ever public speech after the police relaxed his bail conditions.

In the speech, watched online by thousands of people, the MQM leader said he would like to travel to India because his forefathers are buried there.

“If India’s Prime Minister Mr Modi allows me to come to India and provides me asylum with my colleagues, I am ready to come to India along with my colleagues because my grandfather is buried there. My grandmother is buried there and thousands of my relatives are buried there in India. I want to go to India to their graves.”

Hussain, in his speech, alleged that his assets, house and offices were taken over in Karachi after August 22, 2017. He asked the Indian PM to help him with money if he could not provide him asylum.

In fact, Altaf even supported the decision of the Indian Supreme Court in the disputed Babri Mosque case saying that Modi’s government has the “right to establish Hindu Raaj (rule)” and if Indian politician Asaduddin Owaisi and others did not like India, they should migrate to Pakistan.

On October 10, Hussain was charged by the UK’s Crown Prosecution Services with the terrorism offence in a case related to his incendiary speech relayed from the UK to his followers in Pakistan in 2016.

He is due to stand trial in June 2020 and passport remains with the UK police as part of his bail conditions and he is not allowed to apply for any travel document unless permitted by the court.

Lawyers were now assessing whether Hussain has breached his bail conditions by asking Modi to let him stay in India while he awaits the trial of his case.

  • ‘Alif’ Episode 7: Ahsan Khan makes a fleeting appearance

‘Alif’ Episode 7: Ahsan Khan makes a fleeting appearance

Seven episodes later, in, we’re still waiting for Alif to pick up. The drama boasts a brilliant cast, direction and story but because of its slow pace, it is unable to captivate the audiences the way it should have given its unique storyline.

One of the lead characters of the show, played by Ahsan Khan, has finally made an appearance. But that too lasted for less than ten seconds. Till now the only thing we know about his character is that he is Momin’s (Hamza Ali Abbasi) father and left him and his mother for reasons unknown.

The seventh episode mostly explored the relationship between Momin and his grandfather. Their relationship has been wonderfully portrayed and Manzar Sehbai as Abdul Aalaa has given a phenomenal performance.

Meanwhile, Neha (Sadaf Kanwal) is out to get her revenge from Momin and is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that.

Momina is still coping with the death of her brother. However, she fulfils her commitements and returns to work even though her mother told her that she doesn’t really need to. Her former love interest Faisal (Osman Khalid Butt) has also returned from America and there is friction between the two characters. As always, Sajal’s expressions are on point – is there any character she can’t do flawlessly?

Towards the end of the episode, we’re shown that the drama is heading towards a twist. Hoping that this twist finally leads to Momin and Momina meeting again – the wait is getting a bit too long now. I probably sound like a broken record by now but I hope the drama starts moving a little faster. The pace kinda kills the buzz.

  • PM Imran’s weekend break: what should he be doing?

PM Imran’s weekend break: what should he be doing?

Prime Minister Imran Khan has decided to take a mini-break for the first time since he assumed office.

According to reports, the PM has suspended his official and party engagements for two days, (Saturday and Sunday) and will be spending the weekend with his family members at his Bani Gala residence in Islamabad.

The PM will take a break from his work and no government official or party members will meet the premier, neither will he chair any meeting this weekend. PM Imran often chairs Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) meetings at his Bani Gala residence on the weekends as well as receives the party leaders and government officials there.

Considering that PM Imran is taking the weekend off, here are five things The Current recommends he does to make the most of his time off:

    1. Sleep – Is a weekend off really a weekend off unless you sleep at least 16 hours?
    2. Skype with his sons who are in London
    3. Catch up on Pakistani dramas – He must binge-watch Meray Paas Tum Ho and Alif, which starres his fav actor Hamza Ali Abbasi. After all they are creating quite a stir.
    4. Eat – We’ve heard that the PM is quite fond of haleem. The cooks in Banigala should get going on making his fav dish.
    5. Reading – What better way to spend the weekend morning soaking up the winter sun and reading That Will Never Work by Marc Randolph.
  • Just friends or more? Aima Baig & Shahbaz Shigri

Just friends or more? Aima Baig & Shahbaz Shigri

Speculations are rife that Aima Baig and Shahbaz Shigri are more than friends after the two were spotted hanging out more than usual.

The rumours began after Aima and Shabaz posted the same picture at the same time. The picture of them was from the PFDC Bridal Week which took place last month in Lahore where Aima walked the ramp for Fahad Hussayn while Shahbaz was in the crowds to cheer for her. Aima also performed a song during the show.

While Aima had a simple caption, Shahbaz with the picture wrote, “Fantastic show by Fahad Hussayn and the ridiculously talented, drop-dead gorgeous Aima Baig. Pretty sure the ramp was on fire while she was on. Thanks for the kickass blazer Fahad.”

Following the show, the two jetted off to sunny California. Which is probably the biggest sign of their relationship because all relationships start in foreign lands. Remember Iqra Aziz and Yasir Hussain’s vacay in Thailand?

“Really can’t beat this guy when it comes to posing,” Aima captioned the picture below.

Friends and members of the entertainment industry left some sweet comments on the picture and we will take this as a hint.

Another picture which had a lot of hint, hint comments by friends was this one:

Their couple hashtag was debated upon by Shahbaz’s close friend Salmaan Shaukat.
