  • Venkatesh Prasad deletes viral tweet about Jay Shah, abuses Muslim journalist for sharing screenshot

Former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad on Saturday tweeted what many social media users believe was a cryptic tweet targeting Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah, who is also secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

“It takes one corrupt, arrogant guy to take away the hard work of an organisation that is generally non-corrupt and get a stamp of corruption on the whole leadership, not just on a micro level but at a large level.”

Prasad’s tweet made many X (former Twitter) users speculate if the former cricketer had targeted BCCI and Jay Shah, son of Indian Home Minister Amit Shah. However, Prasad soon deleted his tweet.

Indian journalist and fact-checker Mohammed Zubair posted a screenshot of the tweet deleted by Prasad.

AltNews co-founder Zubair was not the only one who posted a screenshot of Prasad’s deleted tweet. Many news outlets did a story on it as well. However, Prasad chose to target and abuse Zubair in a racist and bigoted tweet.

Prasad quote-tweeted Zubair and wrote: “Haha.. Says a serial hate- monger, who has put so many lives in danger for his agenda. You disguising as a fact-checker is like Terrorists talking about peace. Now post that you need money to survive and ask for donation for your website, no shame in living off by fooling people.”

In response, Zubair said that he hopes Prasad will be forgiven for his tweet on BCCI by his “political masters for compensating by abusing and comparing” him to “terrorists”.

One user pointed out that Venkatesh Prasad’s manager is Amritanshu Gupta, a known right-wing BJP supporter, which is why Prasad’s language is of right-wing trolls.

Many X users called out the former Indian cricketer for his bigoted and hateful tweet against a Muslim journalist in India.

Prasad posted a new version of his deleted tweet a day later.

Government ministers openly refusing to obey Supreme Court: Imran Khan

Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has said in a tweet that government ministers are openly refusing to follow the orders of the Supreme Court, calling it the law of the jungle.

“If anyone had any doubts about the law of the jungle prevailing in Pakistan where might is right, all those doubts should be removed after the recent statements of the government ministers openly refusing to obey the SC verdict if its against military courts. It also reflects the PDM’s desperation to avoid elections and hide behind the establishment,” the former Prime Minister wrote in a tweet posted on Saturday afternoon.

After May 9 riots, it has been decided that those involved in the attacks on military installations will be tried in military courts.

‘One-man show tabaahi ka baayis banega’: Maryam Nawaz criticises CJP Bandial for facilitating PTI

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz took to Twitter and without naming Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial criticised him, stating that “one man show will lead to disaster.”

In a thinly veiled jibe at the crisis in the apex court, Maryam wrote, “A person whose own brothers judges mistrust him, raise questions, the decision given by him will have no legal or moral status.”

“It is the responsibility of the entire nation to prevent the House of Justice from becoming the House of Tehreek-e-Insaaf on behalf of a few facilitators. A one-man show will lead to disaster.”

It is pertinent to mention here that Maryam Nawaz’s tweet comes at a time when the SC judges have recused themselves from hearing the PTI’s petition against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to delay polls in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The initial five-member bench comprising CJP Bandial, Justice Ahsan, Justice Akhtar, Justice Amin-Ud-Din Khan, and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail held three hearings on the matter from Monday till Wednesday.

Another three-member bench was formed today after two of the five judges of the original five-member larger bench recused themselves.

‘No connection’; Fawad denies alleged audio leak

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry has denied that the alleged audio leak of him discussing judges of the superior judiciary has anything to do with him.

The audio conversation, allegedly between Fawad Chaudhry and his brother Faisal Chaudhary, surfaced online early Friday morning, with two voices discussing a meeting between senior judges.

“Another fake audio has been thrown in the market in my name. I have no connection with this audio,” Chaudhary tweeted within hours of the conversation surfacing online.

A voice, allegedly Fawad Chaudhry’s, tells his younger brother that a judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC) wants to meet a judge of the Supreme Court. The judge is the same who’s alleged audio conversation with Pervez Elahi surfaced online a few weeks ago. The voice also asks that four more sections are imposed on Ata Tarrar of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Justice Babar Sattar says tweeting in a trend does not constitute a crime

Justice Babar Sattar of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed a case filed against a citizen for tweeting in a controversial trend on Twitter, reports Samaa.

In his verdict, Justice Babar Sattar accepted the petition of a citizen against the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) over tweeting against state institutions.

Justice Sattar observed in the judgement that “Tweeting in relation to any trend cannot itself attract criminal liability unless the words used in the tweet constitute as offensive under a penal statute.”

The words in the tweet in question attracted no criminal liability, he ruled.

Justice Sattar noted that the court cannot act unless there is something wrong in the words used by the person writing the tweet while the court held that the purpose of registering an FIR was to impose illegal censorship on the expression of a citizen.

‘Imran Khan zindabad’: A retired Indian Army major publicly shows support to IK for criticising establishment

A retired Indian Army Major, Gaurav Arya, has posted a tweet on his account, offering support to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for his anti-establishment narrative.

Talking to Twitter, Major Gaurav, infamous for being very critical of Pakistan, applauded Khan for speaking against the country’s army, the prime minister, as well as the country’s intelligence agency.

“He calls Pak Army Chief an animal, Pak PM a thief, people of Pakistan slaves (ghulam) and Election Commissioner a traitor. He publicly threatens to expose ISI”, he said. He also expressed his wish to donate to PTI with the hashtag of ImranKhanZindabad.

A few days ago, the PTI chief directly addressed Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum.

“DG ISI, listen carefully, the things I know…I am staying silent for my institutions and the country. I don’t want to damage my country,” Khan publicly said during the first day of his party’s ongoing long march.

This is not a first time that someone from across border lauded Khan. Since the former Prime Minister’s outburst against the establishment, an Indian journalist has also said that Imran Khan Khan is her favourite.

ABP News’ journalist Rubika Liyaquat said: “[Imran Khan] has become my dear most as he has his eyes set on exposing ISI’s secrets.”

  • Shahzeb Khanzada calls out Maryam Nawaz for her ‘fascist’ tweet, says she needs to apologise

Shahzeb Khanzada calls out Maryam Nawaz for her ‘fascist’ tweet, says she needs to apologise

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz’s insensitive tweet about senior journalist Arshad Sharif made headlines with people from both sides of the political divide condemning the content.

“I don’t feel good re-tweeting this but this is a lesson for mankind that we must all imbibe,” the PML-N leader wrote in a tweet along with a photo of Arshad Sharif’s coffin at the airport.

The original tweet, retweeted by Maryam, claimed that the anchorperson used to say Nawaz Sharif had sent her late mother back home in a parcel, adding that Arshad Sharif used to make fun of other people’s death and now his time had come.

    https://twitter.com/MaryamNSharif/status/1584836576080990208?s=20&t=8K-rN6nu7wepgsk3p-A1fw

Twitter was ablaze with not just the public but many renowned journalists condemning the act by the PML-N leader.

After several hours, Maryam deleted her tweet and apologised on Twitter.

Her tweet said, “My tweet was not aimed at mocking someone but about learning our lessons from the past. I am undoing the tweet and apologise for the hurt it may have caused to the aggrieved which never was my intention. May no one ever have to go through this pain. Prayers for the bereaved family.”

Geo News’ anchorperson Shahzeb Khanzada was one of those who condemned the tweet and said that it is full of vengefulness and fascism.

He further called out the PML-N leader and said that she needs to delete the tweet and apologise because she has hurt Arshad’s family who is still waiting for the arrival of his body.

Senior journalist Hamid Mir also corrected Maryam Nawaz by posting an old tweet of Arshad’s in which the slain journalist had wished Kulsoom Nawaz recovery when she was ill.

  • Elon Musk threatens to terminate Twitter deal once again

Elon Musk threatens to terminate Twitter deal once again

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk warned Twitter in a statement on Monday that if it fails to give him with data on spam and bogus accounts, he may back out of his $44 billion offer to buy the social media company.

This isn’t the first time Musk has hinted that his takeover of Twitter might not go through. However, the warning, which came in the form of a letter from Musk’s lawyers to Twitter’s chief legal officer, Vijaya Gadde, signified a significant step forward. It accused Twitter of “materially breaching” its contract commitments.

Musk’s warnings to rip up the contract have coincided with a drop in many technology equities, including Tesla Inc, the electric vehicle company he runs, as investors worry about an economic downturn and higher interest rates in the face of soaring inflation.

On Monday, Twitter shares fell 1.5 per cent to $39.57, a significant discount to the planned $52.20 purchase price, as investors wagered Musk will either persuade Twitter to accept a lower deal price or walk away from the deal.

Musk’s attorneys reaffirmed their request for facts on bot accounts in a letter to Twitter, saying he reserved all rights to cancel the transaction because the business had failed to meet its duties in a “clear material violation”.

Twitter responded by stating that it intended to enforce the deal’s completion on the agreed-upon conditions. “In order to complete the acquisition in accordance with the terms of the merger agreement, Twitter has and will continue to cooperatively exchange information with Musk,” the firm stated in a statement.

Musk, a self-proclaimed free-speech absolutist, has stated that removing “spam bots” from the platform will be one of his top goals.

In mid-May, he announced that the Twitter transaction was “temporarily on hold,” stating that he will not forward with the offer unless the firm can prove that spam bots make up less than 5 per cent of its overall users. He has stated that spam bots account for at least 20 per cent of the user base.

According to independent analysts, 9 per cent to 15 per cent of the millions of Twitter profiles could be bots.

Musk wrote in his letter that he needs the information to perform his own analysis of Twitter users because he doesn’t trust the company’s “loose testing techniques.” Twitter has stated that it stands by its forecasts and that it is unable to reveal private information on how they are generated.

“He’s trying to back out of the Twitter transaction, and this is the first shot across the bow,” according to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives.

The caveats Twitter employed in its forecasts on spam accounts, according to legal experts, give it some protection against prospective lawsuits, whether from Musk over the transaction or shareholders over the integrity of the company’s regulatory representations.

Even if Twitter’s estimate is incorrect, Musk would have to establish that the San Francisco-based business was attempting to deceive with the intent to deceive – a high legal bar.

“It’s quite evident that Musk has buyer’s remorse, and he’s doing all he can to get a price reduction, and I believe he’ll succeed,” Dennis Dick, a proprietary trader at Bright Trading LLC, said.

To be sure, Musk may be able to walk away or renegotiate the deal even if the law is on Twitter’s side.

This is because any litigation is likely to be protracted, and Twitter may decide it makes more sense to agree to a lower price or receive compensation from Musk rather than try to force him to complete the transaction in court.

Several companies renegotiated or walked away from agreed acquisitions when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in 2020 and delivered a global economic shock.

In one instance, French retailer LVMH threatened to walk away from a deal with Tiffany & Co. The U.S. jewelry retailer agreed to lower the acquisition price by $425 million to $15.8 billion.

Musk is contractually forced to pay a $1 billion breakup fee if he cannot complete the sale because the loan financing falls apart or authorities stop it, according to Forbes, a sliver of his $219 billion fortune.

Last Monday, antitrust officials in the United States opted not to investigate Musk’s acquisition of Twitter any further, indicating that it is unlikely to face regulatory challenges. The deal is still being reviewed by the European Union.

Attorney General Ken Paxton of Texas stated on Monday that he has launched an investigation against Twitter for “possibly fraudulent reporting regarding its bogus bot accounts,” which he described as a possible violation of state law.

As part of the investigation, Paxton requested that Twitter provide over documents. “I have a responsibility to safeguard Texans if Twitter is misrepresenting how many accounts are fraudulent to increase their revenue,” Paxton said in a statement.

Twitter’s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to a spokeswoman, are accurate.

Fact Check: Imran Khan falsely claims that PTI worker from Malakand was killed during Azadi March

Claim: A PTI activist from Mardan was killed last week as a result of Punjab police’s acts of brutality

Fact: The banner showed images of Muhammad Zada Agra who was killed by drug smugglers in 2021

During the PTI Workers’ Convention in Charsadda, Imran Khan raised a banner to tribute the two PTI workers which he alleged in this tweet were killed during last week’s processions. This tweet has 1,135 total Twitter interactions and was shared to 829,798 social media users on Twitter.

He named these workers to be Faisal Abbas Chaudhry from Lahore and Syed Ahmed Jan from Mardan in his tweet and claimed that they both died as a result of police violence.

During his speech, not only did he say the name of the second activist from Mardan was Syed Ali Shah, but the banner which he raised, showed an image which showed Muhammad Zada Agra, a journalist and social activist who was murdered in Sakhakot, his home city in Malakand, for Agra’s reporting and advocacy against local drug cartels, in 2021.

Screenshot of the CPJ report on Muhammad Zada Agra’s killing in 2021

Although Agra was a PTI supporter and a former district president of the Insaf Students Federation, the student wing of PTI, he was not murdered by the police or on the dictation of Rana Sanaullah, as Khan claims in his address.

In fact, this Committee to Protect Journalists’ report explains that the Deputy Commissioner Malakand district police announced that the two men who killed Agra were confirmed to be associated with local drug smugglers after their arrest.
