‘Mission Majnu agaya’: Pakistani Twitter users roast economics professor for spreading fake news

    Mission Majnu Part 2 shuru?

Yehi tou lagta hai Steve Hanke babu ko, who took to Twitter to share a video of smoke rising from a building, claiming that it was a nuclear power plant in Karachi, and then proceeded to blame authorities for not taking the matter seriously.

We would also like to point out that Steve Hank is a professor of Economics at the very prestigious John Hopkins. A professor of his stature is expected to share only the truth.

Except, its not true. The video, from 12th June, is not of a nuclear power plant blast but its from a fire at a grid station in DHA, which left residents without light for hours.

But if Pakistanis are good at anything, it is making memes to roast others. And we got some hilarious responses.

Quick someone fly Sidharth Malhotra to Karachi!

Mission Majnu say fact checking seekhien sir!

Video: Former Twitter CEO says Modi Govt threatened to shut down platform in India

Twitter’s co-founder and former boss Jack Dorsey in an interview with YouTube channel Breaking Points talked about censorship requests he received from the Indian government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Jack said that Twitter received “many requests” from the Indian government to block accounts covering farmers’ protests. The former CEO of Twitter further said that the platform also received multiple requests to block those accounts that were critical of the government.
He has also said that the Indian government threatened to shut down Twitter in the country.

“India is a country that had many requests of us around the farmers protest, around particular journalists that were critical of the government, and it manifested in ways such as ‘we will shut Twitter down in India,’ which is a very large market for us; ‘we will raid the homes of your employees,’ which they did; ‘we will shut down your offices, if you don’t follow suit,’ and this is India, a democratic country,’” Dorsey said.

Dorsey said that Turkey also has similar requests like India. He noted that Twitter, which frequently engaged in legal battles with the government and prevailed, was also threatened with closure by the Turkish government.

British politician says celebration with alcohol ruined because of Muslim cricket player, Twitter roasts him, calls it ‘team spirit’

Nigel Farage, former broadcaster and head of Brexit Party, has been roasted on Twitter for a tweet in which he berated the Australian cricket team for not celebrating “champagne style” after winning World Test Championship (WTC) because of Muslim opener Usman Khawaja.

Farage posted a tweet on Sunday after Australia won the WTC at the Oval in London and chose not to celebrate with champagne, as teams traditionally do, out of respect for their Muslim teammate.

“Once again the Australian cricket team do not celebrate in champagne style because 1 of the team members is a Muslim. Are we all to suspend normal life because of the minority,” he wrote.

The tweet got slammed by fans of the game, with nearly every nationality joining in for a bit of Farage bashing.

Cricket writer Kit Harris rebuked Farage in a scathing tweet that begun, “It’s called “mateship”. I know it doesn’t exist in politics, but it does in sport — especially Australian sport.”

Indian fans jumped in too, though their team had just lost to Australia.

Other tweeps were delighted with Australians uniting to respond to the ultra-right nationalist politician.

Usman Khawaja himself posted what seems to be an indirect reply to Farage on Instagram, posting a picture of himself celebrating with a diet Coke.

First-ever discounted Russian crude oil cargo arrives in Karachi

Under a newly established agreement between Islamabad and Moscow, the inaugural shipment of discounted Russian crude oil arrived in Karachi on Sunday, marking the beginning of enhanced trade relations between the two nations.

Departing from Russia over a month ago, the oil cargo reached Pakistan via Oman. Officials announced that the unloading process would commence on Monday, with the oil undergoing processing at the Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL).

During its lengthy voyage, the 100,000 metric ton oil shipment was divided into two parts in Oman due to the Karachi port’s limited capacity to accommodate larger vessels. Subsequently, two smaller ships, each carrying 50,000 metric tons of oil, embarked on their journey to Karachi.

Upon the cargo’s arrival, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his enthusiasm on Twitter, describing Sunday as a “transformative day” and affirming the fulfillment of his commitment to the nation.

He expressed the belief that these developments would contribute incrementally to prosperity, economic growth, energy security, and affordability. The Prime Minister further recognised and commended all those involved in this national endeavor who helped turn the promise of Russian oil imports into reality.

Sources indicate that this Russian oil shipment will not be subject to the existing domestic oil pricing mechanism in the country. Consequently, the PRL will assume the benefits or losses associated with the Russian oil. Additionally, the sources stated that this shipment serves as a test case to evaluate the quality of the crude oil and the ratio of refined products. A report will be submitted to the federal government to inform future decisions regarding long-term commercial oil agreements.

Pakistan had secured its order for the initial cargo of Russian crude oil at a discounted rate of up to $18 per barrel. Following the Platts crude oil prices, Islamabad applied a discount ranging from $16 to $18 per barrel, according to insider information.

This resurfaced advertisement about partition from Google India is moving Twitter to tears

An advertisement titled ‘Reunion’ made by Google India in 2013 has resurfaced on Twitter. The ad was about two long lost friends from India and Pakistan who are reunited with the help of their grandchildren.

The advertisement revolves around two grandchildren who listen to their grandfathers recall being friends and living in Lahore, until partition took place, driving them apart. The grand daughter from India then tries hard to connect with the friend from Pakistan, and books tickets to get the two to unite.

A twitter thread by an Indian twitter user asked followers about the best advertisements they had ever seen. In reply, a user shared the ad, moving Twitter to tears.

The partition between India and Pakistan is still like an open wound. It is nice to remember that despite political tensions between the two countries, people remain united by love.

“This never fails to bring a lump in my throat and moisten the eyes,” wrote a user.

“Actual tears rolling down my eyes.” wrote another user.

“Now why is Google making me tear up on a Friday afternoon”.

‘Wildest crossover’: Diljit Dosanjh and Taylor Swift dating rumor has launched hilarious memes

“Yaar privacy naam di v koi cheez hundi aa”

Which soon led to a storm on social media with fans trying to re-imagine what would ‘Anti-hero’ singer and Doshanjh dating be like. The results were hilarious.

  • ‘The audacity’: Never Have I Ever’s finale divides audience

‘The audacity’: Never Have I Ever’s finale divides audience

    Warning: spoilers

The series finale for ‘Never Have I Ever’ aired yesterday, bringing fans to a conclusion that divided opinions. Devi finally graduated high school, resolving the mystery about who is the man she will end up with.

The series revolved around a messy kid Devi, who navigates love, peer pressure from belonging to an Indian family, and deals with the death of her father.

From Season 1, there were two men in Devi’s life, Paxton Hall-Yoshida and Ben Gross. We were led through a four season long will-they-won’t-they as Devi made her way through misunderstandings, hurried confessions and miscommunication to now finally watching a grown and less-chaotic Devi who finally chooses…

    Ben!

How did we get to this conclusion? Devi and Ben got intimate in the last season after which, the two remain awkward, drifting off, but eventually ending back together as friends. Devi ends up getting in to the college of her dreams: Princeton, with Ben’s help.

While packing for college, Devi misses Ben, who is in New York for a law internship. However, during her friend Nirmala’s wedding, Ben shows up at the last minute, with both deciding to give their relationship a shot.

Needless to say, this outcome did not sit well with a lot of fans, who criticised creator Mindy Kailing for hyping mediocre looking white men, and routinely depicting brown women who indulge in self-critical commentary and consistently put down their own culture and heritage in the shows.

Many pointed out that Devi’s conclusion with Ben was another domino in the long line of Kailing’s female leads hyping bare-minimum men, and putting down south asian men for the sake of appealing to a white audience.

But other users felt that the conclusion was satisfying and were happy that Ben and Devi went from being enemies to close friends and finally falling in love with each other.

  • Is there hope for ‘Tere Bin’? Fans laud Murtasim’s powerful stand against Ma Begum, Haya

Is there hope for ‘Tere Bin’? Fans laud Murtasim’s powerful stand against Ma Begum, Haya

    Warning: spoilers

The latest episode of the GEO’s drama serial ‘Tere Bin’ is getting praise from fans on social media because finally, Murtasim managed to do something we’ve been aching to watch: take a stand for his wife.

The previous episodes showcased Meerab’s dismay over being treated with cruelty by Haya and Ma Begum, who regularly taunted her for her outspoken attitude, her refusal to be a submissive wife, and Haya’s attempts to drive a wedge between the couple by spying on Meerab, driving her to leave the house.

But in this episode, Murtasim is seen grieving over Meerab’s loss as he can’t find her, and Ma Begum taunts her for dishonoring the family by running away. When she suggests to Murtasim that he divorce Meerab and cut of all connection with her, he refuses to follow her commands, and declares in a powerful stand that he would keep searching for his wife, regardless of what it takes.

The episode comes right after ‘Tere Bin’ was panned for using marital rape as bait to keep viewers engaged. The serial has gone through highs and lows, becoming a fan favourite as soon as it launched, then repulsing fans, and now sucking them right back in for all the right reasons.

Let’s hope the serial stays true to its original storyline and doesn’t jump the shark again.

Many praised the fact that finally, we got the old Murtasim back who was a certified wife guy.

Other Twitter users also praised this episode for providing flashbacks to some of the best moments between Meerab and Murtasim, which helped a lot because of the angsty turn the drama had taken.
